I haven't found any control button headsets that work. Only the answer/end button works. I haven't tried on the N7 but I assume it would most likely be the same.
As for over the ear headphones, 70-80 Euros, try:
Audio-Technica ATH-M50-Old reliable...
V-Moda Crossfade LPs, which I have and are awesome, but it's a personal preference thing lol, since upgraded to the V-Moda M-100s, which I adore, but are expensive.
There are a few Sony's that are good, but I haven't tried them at all.
I've seen the Audio Technica, but they're double the price in Amazon plus local stores(around 150 euros), are the m40 and m35 any good??
I'll look into the v-moda too, didn't know them so well..Thanks for the help!!

I only have 1 pair of over-ear headphones (Beyerdynamic DT880 - 600OHm) but they're not portable. More of a hifi/home audio choice and they're in the $350 range. I would look up some pro audio shops around your area and see what brands/lineup they have and test headphones out in store. A lot of them have variance in how they sound and also how comfortable they are on your ears.
Also, the amp/dac in Nexus 4 is quite weak so you may want to go for something low impedance so that they can be driven easily without the use of a portable amp/dac.
Personally, I prefer smaller in-ear monitors for on the go and over ears for home. The author of that thread at head-fi also has a review done of in-ear monitors which you can check out if you decide to change your mind. Some of them in the lineup are also offered with an in-line mic/button setup so they can be used as headsets, or they have replaceable cables that can be switched out to one with a mic/button.

Thanks for all the info evonc, you've been of great help!! I have some in-ear monitors,a pair of Sony in particular..Their bass is great but lacking in mid and high, thankfully viper 4 android kind of rectified the situation..I'm leaning towards the AKG 518Dj, as they're the best value for money I can find in my area..Apart from my nexus devices they'll be used with my olde iPod classic and my PC.

Welcome. And yeah if you have the cash I'd suggest the Audio Technica M50's. Probably the best priced for performance over ears. I didn't enjoy their signature when I tried them as they're closed so I opted for the dt880's. You can try to find the Audio Technica AD700's which I believe are open ear and go for much less as well.

Damm...So many great choices,so little budget ..Thanks all for your interest and feedback but sadly I had to lower my budget once more and I'm lucky I found a great deal for the akg 518Dj for around 30euros. I'm enjoying their sound for the money spent so far.Once I get a job again I know where I'll be spending a part of my first paycheck..

Philips citiscape uptown. They used to cost €150 but can now be bought for around €60. Reviews are good, especially if you appreciate a more real sound instead of the bass heavy garbage beats produces. They say those Philips are even better (or the same) as the ath-m50. Just look for some reviews . They have a mic as well

Just a heads up, we can now get the Beats Audio advanced equaliser software on any Gingerbread ROM.
I've just flashed it through Cwm and it works like a dream so far.
Go ahead and try it No harm in flashing even if it is all marketing /placebo.

Too bad Beats Audio sucks, I'd rather stick with my PowerAmp. Configured correctly it'll blow away Beats with ease.
Still thanks for letting people know it's out there, might come in handy for some people with other taste in music, as I heard it does the job with dubstep.
Thank you very very much for sharing this.....and thank to the person who has ported it.......I bought HTC beat audio headset and it were lying down as i was not using it coz of the low sound.....but now the real fun begain.....i am really loving the beat audio sound .....very goood .....best quality sound.... thank you once again
You are saying that I can use this app to produce better sounds on my default Samsung headsets?

Copied the entire file with Root Explorer, but can not hear much difference with stock music player with headphone (Sennheiser IE8).
P.S. Also tested it with my desktop setup:
Graham Slee Solo II headphone amp
Sennheiser hd800 headphone
Music 320kbps ACC
Stock music player
The music play back still sound a bit flat and lifeless as before.
Revert back to stock files.
Beats audio? Wow! Now I can make the audio quality of the Note worse! Seriously, anyone who buys into this nonsense needs their head read.

+10 lol.
a bit off topic... but im thinking about buying a pair of Sennheiser HD 205 over ear, can anybody tell me if they are total waist of money ?? my OLD philips over ear can't be powered proberbly with the NOTE, so im affraid that the HD205 will be the same..
right now im useing Ibeats by Dr. Dre but would prefear a good not to expensive over ear headphones... been looking at Beats SOLO but think the price is to much
Why do people keep falling for Beats and Bose crap - Shure Pioneer and Seinheiser is the real deal - Pair it with a Cowan or use PowerAMP and you got porn in your ears.

A decent headphone amp will solve your problem. If you're just looking to drive a big pair of cans, the Fiio E5 will do the trick for $25-$35. If you want volume and superior sound, the Fiio E11 will run you between $50-$100 depending on where you shop. Either way, you'll get your volume.

Have you tried VOODOO Louder? It's a software solution that uses the SGN's audio hardware to increase headphone output. By default, the Note doesn't use all the volume at it's disposal. VOODOO Louder allows you to do just that.

I expect they will work. But the price seems extreme.
Any suggestions on lower priced ones.... I'm worried since it has a mic input and acer hates Bluetooth devices with mics
It works with Creative D100 wireless speakers, and the sound is OK:

Considering how small it is, it does a really good job. It has a built-in passive subwoofer that fires from the top. Its not gonna blow you away with earth shaking lows, but the bass notes are there and very clear. I am running Flexreaper ROM on my A500 at the moment and using the equalizer app thats included I get the lows dialed in pretty damn well. Keep in mind that I mainly listen to pretty lo-fi punk rock so the bass is fairly minimal anyway. But when I do listen to something with heavy bass, it sounds good.
thanks ill look into getting one then just bought a case with keyboard built in ;-)
Thanks

Alright so I picked up my N7 yesterday as a more portable alternative to my Transformer Prime. I'm using it primarily for entertainment and social networking where as the Prime will be my productivity tablet. My question is if I'm walking around listening to music with the N7 in my back pocket, will I be able to use a pair of headphones with built in audio controls for the music? If so does anyone recommend a particular pair? Looking for in-ear ones and preferably ones that won't hurt my College student wallet. Personally I'm not a fan of the big Beats headphones primarily because of the fact that most kids that wear them all the time are tools and I don't want to be associated with that stereotype. Haha pun.

Bluetooth headphones are your friend.
A bunch can be found for $30-70. Get at it!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Unfortunately, the headphone jack doesn't have mic support, which is needed for headset control support. I can't understand why they would leave this out, and mic support was even advertised as a feature on Asus' product page. I'm not sure if they've changed the page since the last time I've looked at it.
Is it something that a firmware update will fix? I know with the TP there were a lot of things that were added with firmware updates. I looked into the Bluetooth headsets on amazon and I think I found one I would use, but I'm still not crazy about the size of them. Even the smaller in ear ones.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
This isn't the kind of feature that a software update can add. The Nexus 7 doesn't have the necessary hardware.
Ah I see. Well I guess I'll just trap a pair of BT headphones off Amazon. Any one have a suggestion on which ones to go for or to avoid?

Just go to HeadFi forums lol. This thread is the same as asking which earbuds are the best
I myself am using a Sony MDREX510LP set of earbuds which i got for $40 on Amazon from a deal (good deal for $40, not so much at MSRP)
If you want suggestions, give us your budget and we'll recommend you some
I have a pair of Skull Candy Ink'd which I love. Yes, people condemn them for various reasons but they float my boat which is what matters. What they don't have is a mic and remote and Skull Candy gear supposedly doesn't support Android well in this department.
So, I'd also like some in-ear suggestions with bass at least as good as SC Ink'd plus a mic and remote. My budget is $40-$60.
Pair of big old skull candy hesh headphones... not perfect but for a tenner I wasnt gonna say no!

I'm using a pair of Westone 4R's with mine. Love the quad drivers!
Personally I used Zagg Smartbuds.
They sound decent for the price (rather bassy, which is something I like but others may not) and the way they hang around your neck when you're not using them is actually really useful.
Plus my last pair lasted me just over a year, which is the longest a pair of earphones have lasted me
I have sennheiser hd 205 headset they are priety good.
And I use a Koss Porta Pro I recommend it.

Since you have previous experience with rooted devices & the audio mods available exclusively for root, you're gonna be a bit disappointed until you can use A.R.I.S.E.,Viper4Android, etc......
I use the Equalizer (Pro) by Smart Android Apps, LLC in the Google Play Store, works well for me.
On that note, I'll step aside for the audio enthusiasts, I'm certain others will have recommendations & tips for setting it up/etc.....
