Not sure what you're saying but like already mentioned, just boot back into recovery flash CM ROM again with no wipe.

okay so i just flash the rom over the kernel and then re-flash the kernel?
yes. Full wipe then flash the rom. Reboot. To flash the kernel after, wipe cache and davlik then flash kernel. you might have known this already but thought id throw it out there.

Update rom

My first ROM on my N7 is paranoid android of course. I have the build from September 9 and the latest is now available (goomanager informs me). After I down load this zip, all I have to do is flash this new file in order to be up to date?
Thanks

All you have to do is reboot into recovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, flash the ROM, flash gapps, then reboot. Always wipe caches and re-flash gapps when you flash an update to a ROM.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, after I wipe the caches... reinstall the rom and then put the latest version of gapps? (Just like you did to get the rom working in the first place?)
Thanks

Yes. I don't know if you did this before you installed paranoid android, but it's a good idea to do do a full wipe/factory reset when you switch ROMs.
Once you're on a particular ROM, you only need to wipe caches before you flash the update and gapps.
Sorry if that was confusing

My pleasure. Watch out though. Flashing ROMs can get very addictive.

Can I get OTA updates if I restore a nandroid?

If I restore a Nandroid backup of the stock ROM, will I be able to get OTA updates by Google? If not, will it be possible when I just flash the stock recovery?
Thanks in advance!

We'll have the flashable zip of the ota within hours after it hits, no need to wait for it..
But I think you're right, you'll have to go back to the stock recovery.

Yep. Someone will release it within hours, you'll do a full wipe and install it. That simple! (Not from Google! Done good dev will release it after the Google event. I'd say 4-5 hrs at the most)
Questions are fine when asked at the right place. I remember telling you off at the PA thread a couple of days ago. You'd turn it to your personal thread..

All right very nice! so no need to flash a factory image! I am happy again, cause my PC died last week and maybe I wont have one myself for quite a time, I can use one of my parents but I am not likely to download a lot of things on their computer that they dont need
And from the PA thread, I know, it was a pathetic action by me

Nah, you'll be ok. Usually everything comes -sooner or later- in zip format.
Pathetic?! Hahaha, not really, no! A bit too enthusiastic I'd say..

If there is a new bootloader or radio in the OTA, they will be in the zip too.

Install the newest version of TWRP, I believe 2.6.3.2. And yes, a full wipe is needed and then a ROM and gapps flash

I need assistance.

So, now that I'm able to flash roms and stuff now, I decided to go ahead and install twrp recovery. So far, that works fine and whatnot, made a backup and everything. But my issue is installing a rom. I've downloaded carbon rom and pacman rom and both have failed to boot up. I moved them to my SD card, including the gapps, wiped system, data, cache, dalvik, all of that stuff. I then tap install, find the rom, install it and it says it works. I install the gapps as well and those install fine. But when I hit reboot now, it stops at the bootloader warning screen for about 2 min and then loops back off and back to the same screen. What am I doing wrong?

You need to rollback to update 90.30.1. Just download the FXZ and use House of Moto and flash back. Then reinstall TWRP and go.

No ROMs support the new bootloader/kernel yet. The only way to use those ROMs, is to FXZ back to 98.30.1.
EDIT: IMHO, I personally don't think giving up the 3.4 kernel is worth downgrading.

However, when more ROMs support the 3.4 kernel, couldn't you just flash back to it and go?
I'm relatively new to this, so if it isn't that simple, let me know :good:

Yes, but ROMs that support the new bootloader/kernel, are a long way off. With the issues that the 3.0.x kernel ROMs have, I just don't think it's worth downgrading.

No. Just stick with stock for a little bit. Dhacker said via twitter that after the M8 CM11 builds, msm8960 will be using the 3.4 kernel.
This is good to know.
Thank you.
