After i flash the last paranoid android build, i lost all connection with usb. my pc foesnt even react when i plug it in. not showing in device manager. in the phone doesnt appear the jelly bean that indicates usb debugging but it starts charging. just to make sure i installed trickster mor to ensure fast charge was disabled.
MTP is checked also. i tried other kernels, system wipe etc.
the only thing i didnt do was revert to stock because if i revert to stock i'm affraid of brcame the phone pretty useless since i cant connect in bootloader.
has anyone experiencing something like this?
I know there are related issues with storage with latest pa 3.99 rc1 but i couldnt find any similar case. I really need help! I even have to use airdroid to transfer songs into the device.
Thanks in advance
have you enable your USB debugging in Developer Option?
It's hard to help with a problem like this... have you tried other computers to make sure the problem is in the phone and not the computer? Back-side USB ports?
i have the same issue. i tried turning off and on usb debugging but it doesnt help. i think we have to wait for an update.

Thank you for your replies!
As refered in the first post usb debugging doesnt seem to do anything. turned it on and off infinite times, connected and disconnected from the pc. ive been searching for the last 4 days in pa thread and google but with no luck.
Also tried another computer and no response also... I dont think its hardware problem since this happens after the update and the phone charges in usb and original charger....
I really need to fix this. Im from portugal, so i cant send it to lg or elsewhere because theres no support since the phone is not comercialized.

Umm well how about the driver of N4 in the device manager? Have you check it?
Sent From My Mako
Does it work when set to PTP mode? I was running into an issue where MTP was not connecting. With the phone plugged in and set to MTP, I had to go to the Device Manager and then uninstall the drivers for the phone. I had to repeat that several times before it finally worked.

My computer doesn't even react when i plug the phone, So I cant see the drivers. but it was working when i flashed pa 3.99 rc1 and later in the same day when i went to transfer my music and backups etc, the pc wouldnt respond, I was in pa 3.99, returned to stock, and then i flashed pa 3.99 rc1
The only thing that happens is that the phone starts charging. So i think it can be some corrupt usb file or driver or a problem in debbuging since the persistent notification of usb debugging doesnt appear. Not even the classic sound that windows plays in usb connect/disconnect...

I have read the pa thread to find a solution. But this problem is about pa 3.99 rc1 build. So if you want to connect your nexus to pc you have to flash older version (3.99) or another rom.
I decided to use stock 4.3 until pa updates. I couldn't find another solution. so if it counts, I solve my problem temporarily.
Sorry for bad English...

Yes divers have been installed a long time. I used to be able to connect. Then about a month ago it decided to stop. I even tried it on a XP system, same thing.

Yes. Tried my wifes. Tried one from my BB. Tried de-bugging mode. Tried rebooting while connected. Lol

Did you try a different USB port?
Also I would suggest updating to EB01 since DL30 isn't supported by devs and is a less stable Froyo build. Uninstall the Samsung drivers, reboot, reinstall and try it again.
Mine quit working today....i disabled usb debug then did a battery pull. Rebooted..enabled usb all is well...

I've had this issue and have tracked it down to my BT dongle. Every time I use it on my win 7 64bit box I have to uninstall the Samsung drivers, then reinstall without the phone or the BT dongle plugged in.
Thanks for all the input. It finally started working. I installed another rom and kernel. But now I can't get odin to recognize the phone in download mode. Weird stuff....

I just ran into this myslef, and I believe the Fascinate has a bit of a multiple personality disorder. When I went through the Windows registry, I found entries listing the phone as a phone, as removable storage, as a SD card reader and as a CD drive. Nothing worked - no matter what I did, Windows wouldn't recognize it as anything.
To solve it, I had to uninstall the Samsung drivers and then search through the registry, removing anything that said Samsung. A bunch of keys gave me permission errors, but after finally removing them all, I connected the phone and it was immediately recognized as an Android Device. I reloaded the Samsung drivers and everything is back to normal.
A major PITA, but I'm just glad there was a solution.
If you want to try to do the same, uninstall the Samsung drivers, open regedit and search for Samsung. Delete any key that says Samsung (assuming you don't have any other Samsung peripherals). Hopefully you won't run into the permissions problems, but if you do, let me know and I'll walk you through how to get past them.
ChrisDDD, thank you. I will try that asap. That is some great information. I will report back my findings after I'm finished.

Well finally got around do working on this. And YES it worked. At least on my XP machine. Got some permission problems on my win 7 machine.
Chris, thanks for that bit of info. Only thing I had to do different than most was to reboot my phone in download from the menu that is installed with my kernel. I couldn't get it to work by pulling the batt and hooking up to pc. Funny stuff trying to get this stuff to work.
My nexus S won't show up on my computer. I've tried re installing and uninstalling the drivers for it. It shows up as an "Unknown device" and tells me that i should try to replace the device. I'm running W7 prof. and 2.3.4 stock on my nexus with root. I've tried several fixes and none have worked. Please if anyone has had the same problem help me out.

Sounds like the cable. Try a new one, something thick like they have at radio shack.

Been having the same problem for months. Don't think it's the cable since everything worked fine before i manually installed 2.3.4. Tried many of the same fixes as you, also with no luck.

i never connect via usb. you download the rom onto the phone, boot into recovery, flash the rom, then reboot. easy.

Are you trying to have your Nexus S recognized as a USB storage device or a Nexus S device? Have you tried connecting to a different USB port on your computer?
Same problem - seemed to start a week ago when I updated Music app. Tried 3 different PC's and 3 different cables with no luck. Then tried turning off whilst lead still plugged in and it immediately rebooted so I unplugged, put it in recovery mode then plugged in lead and rebooted and it seemed to kick it into life... since then works ok once I'd rebooted PC's. Weird as hell and initial thought USB phone connector was broken but seems fine now. Good luck!

try the samsungdriver , you can find it on nexusshacks.com together with a tutorial on how to install it . worked for me.
Same problem here , just tried switching the cable from my old htc shift and it worked . The one that came with the nexus is having problems , seems to be one more issue for the books for this phone , from the reception , battery use ....
My stock cable didn't support development and my phone keeps disconnecting.
So i tried a different cable, which is from my Nokia N85. It worked fine.
1. try other computer , determinate it is cable, USB port, windows driver or phone problem
2. try delete old device displays in your computer and reinstall, try use "windows update" to find correct driver , by the way , i didn't have to install new driver after i update from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 , so i guess that's same driver
...
and , other silly idea , try to plug it into other new USB port of your computer...
i'm not sure , but sometimes i plug some device out and plug it into other port , windows just reinstall the same driver and disiplay #2 for the same device...
I wanted to flash XXKPE so I backed up with TiB and connected phone in Mass Storage mode but the phone is not recognised. There is no sound of new device being connected. The phone charges but does not mount. Till a few days back everything was okay but suddenly this problem. Please advice.
Edit : I tried different cables and problem not resolved. Also connected Wave2 phone and it connects, so something in the phone. I feel the Legend-X theme which gives a sound message "Recharge Enabled" when I connect is somehow responsible.
I don't know if it will be useful but I would try to download Samsung Kies and reinstall drivers with it.
@jesrani
did you here a sound when you connect the phone to the computer ???
(a found new hardware sound in windows)

Maybe I can try but not sure if this is the problem. Normally when a device is connected, Windows makes a sound indication a new connection and then loads the drivers. In this case there is no sound but the mobile charges and also the cable works for other mobile.

the charge will work because of the voltage from the USB
have you tried enabling/disabling the USB debugging Mode
I do not have any problem with it dude. This fw is stable among previous releases of gb but results are different on different devices. For instance.after flashing 8 -10 times, I could not root it the way others are rooting the phone. I had to use an agree flashing the cwm. Done ppl have kernel panic making it un usable. I donot have single kernel panic. So its not theme,.may be something else. May be others who are using the theme can opine.

You are right, it was not the theme, but don't know what was the problem. Probably the cable. Resolved by itself. Now flashed KPE and in process of setting up, can't wait to install your theme on this.
Update: Problem fixed. Just activate USB debugging.

Hi Guys,
me again ;D
I do have a problem with the newest CM9 build (Quarx January build). After a few days of using the device with CM9 the phone crashes directly after the start of the device (the screen shows up and an Error appears (Trebuchet crash)). I cant go into settings or stuff like that because the device doesn't react. Wipe didnt work. I installed some Apps during the last few days.
Someone with the same problem???
With best regards

after you uninstall and reinstall the usb drivers, reboot both your PC and your phone then see if your device is read correctly. which root method are you trying to use, btw? if you are using the method by @AdamOutler, he recommends running casual without the drivers or anything installed yet. literally just plug in the S4 and let casual do everything.
