So I tried to root using qbkings method with Odin and that failed and I had to do the unroot method. While this root method may have failed due to my cable not being the best as well as me not plugging my cable into the back of my computer. But I was just wondering. With the mf9 update can you flash a custom recovery via Odin and then flash a custom kernel and then finally flash super user in recovery to obtain root?

All you have to do is use cf-autoroot. If you are using any other method to root mf9 you are doing it wrong and will have problems.
1. run cf-autoroot through odin
2. install custom recovery of your choice
3. profit
Why does everyone try to make it so complicated.

Having seen one in for this device yet but here something similar since you are on mf9. Use the tar files

Odin the tar files. If you went odex or deodex. You will have root when booted
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Now if I do this do I even need to root or anything? I can do this straight from stock?

If you flash this through odin then you dont need to root cause its already rooted. If you are in stock yes you can just make sure you get no wipe data tar. If you dont wanna lose data

You can use either cf auto root and root the same way as you did with mdl or you can use crawj's mf9 stock rooted tar and odin that to get rooted.

OK thanks alot for the speedy reply. Didn't know if the cfauto root would work with the mf9 build. I did searh, but couldn't find anything. I did see the options u mentioned though.
How can i get stock rom mja i have 4.3 rooted but i wanna get 4.3 stock
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Not really possible ATM. No tar file available. So you are in a way stuck with 4.3 rooted.

Not really unless cnexus makes a stock odexed rom then we can just flash that, flash stock kernel and stock recovery and unroot. Then do a factory wipe. But we dont have those files so if you modded your phone. You stuck until we can get a working tar or the files needed.

I think I saw in the general section that there is a tar file for Odin now. You may want to check there
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Yes, the full MJA tar file is available on sammobile.com, download it and flash with odin.

Are you on 100% stock MK2 unrooted? If you are on a custom ROM or have a custom recovery with root it will not install the zip as it checks to see if your phone has any modified files.

The phone isnt rooted and it has the stock recovery, as u said how can i check if there are some modified files?

Did you delete, froze any apps that came with the phone? Did you install hotspot or anything that modified the system?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I havent deleted any app, the hostpot is the original app from sprint
But i still dont know why it wont update
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
If you really want to update to kit kat then just odin mk2 .tar and do a fresh install again and just try the download again.

You won't lose your data. A stock tar install does not erase data unless you do a factory reset.
Ok then i will have to wait for the update.zip from Sammobile firmware

But the apps are worki working fine which need root access

Do you have any superuser app installed? Make sure that root checker is not blacklisted.

Strange but the apps are working fine.
I am confused do I have root or not?
Do I have to flash cf-autoroot via odin again?

You are on 4.4.2 or 4.3 or 4.2.2 ??
On 4.4.2 cf auto root might not work
