[Q] Problem with Samsung Keyboard and hand writing - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I have a galaxy note 2 for almost two months. It used to work fine until yesterday that suddenly the samsung keyboard does not change automatically from normal keyboard to hand writing (and vice versa) as it used to. I checked the settings - it is as it should be. So I have to press the button that switches keyboard from normal to handwriting.
Moreover there are some applications like chrome browser that I cannot search for a term or insert anything to their general search/url window in other language than English using hand writing recognition. I can insert anything in Greek using normal samsung keyboard, but once I change to handwriting no matter what language I have selected it is trying to recognize text as it is in English. I cleaned cache to all the apps, restored the samsung keyboard.
Is there anything else I can do?
Thank you in advance.

[Q] I have some questions about Android's Voice Input

I'm guessing this is an okay place to write this. Maybe there should be just an "Android General" area.
Anyway, I have two issues.
1. When I speak in a sentence for a text message, the first letter isn't capitalized. This annoys me as it is needless and shouldn't even happen with my "always capitalize a new sentence" function turned on.
2. In the voice input settings, I switched from US English to UK English, but it still puts down my words in American English where applicable. What is that about?
Bump? Also, can I report these issues to Google? Put them on the Google Code for Android? What can I do exactly? Are there solutions?
Uhh... help??
I don't really have a true answer to your question. But I just started using smart keyboard pro and when done talking it gives me a list of sentences to select based on what it thought u were trying to say. Basically saying that depending on keyboard used may determine if settings are handled properly. Try different keyboards

So is Voice handled by programs and not Android itself?
Voice is an external application that is referenced by many keyboards.
That being said, voice likely returns a simple string of text without capitalization, so that's what most keyboards are going to display. It probably won't help to switch keyboards unless they specifically account for the bug.
I think right now, you're pretty much out of luck unless someone has fixed it with a hack or a special keyboard.

tSwitching to Japanese Keyboard ???

I'm pissed with my phone and most of all, I'm really pissed with my friend whom suggested I update the phone!!!!!!! NO! Don't ever suggest to me to update the phone again, it worked for me, did everything I wanted the way I wanted... Now it doesn't. **** crashes all the time!
I'm on the verge of trashing the thing, it's pissing me off!!
I've wasted the last few night reinstalling my applications, tools and various utilities. But how do I switch that ****e english keyboard back to Japanese? It's been updated to 2.1.A.0.435....
I goto the Languages and Keyboard settings and I see the Japanese keyboard BUT for the life of me, I can't make it switch. Whenever try to enter text all i get is the crap white keyboard with no hiragana input. It sucks i tell you.
Possible to downgrade the firmware??

1. Stay calm.
2. Backup your apps (there is so many ways of doing this, so check google)
3. Install WB-XPERIA TW Gingerbread from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192988
4. Install the latest patch
5. Install the Japanese keyboard, from the ADDITIONAL DOWNLOADS on WB-XPERIA
That is all assuming you are on BB71...
If you have any issues with those steps, try Google.

Sorry If i sound a little hot headed right now...
but I'm on the verge of trashing this thing and you're telling me to waste MORE time upgrading?
Care to explain WHY DO I NEED the newer Gingerbread firmware? Buddy, if you like to waste your time flashing phones, then you're more than welcome to come flash mine cause I seriously can't be arsed with it.
How about offering me a simple five minute solution to switch the keyboards over?

Sorry but WTF is BB71?
****!..
Waste my bloody time maintaining a phone.. Have better things to do than maintain hardware I seldom use. No, seriously.. I don't use my phone for all the crap applications they have available. it's purely an email device as far as I'm concerned...
You're on xda dev, that's what we do here. So have you tried setting the language on your keyboard? If the options are setup right you can do this by sliding your thumb on the keyboard. If not, try change default language or ask your friend to help you out?

1) go to settings > Language & Keyboard > tick Japanese keyboard
2) exit settings with back button > open internet browser
3) press on URL or search bar in browser so keyboard pops up
4) confirm Keyboard is visible > press and hold (long-press) on above mentioned URL or search bar until "Input Method" option appears
5) Click on Input Method option > choose "Japanese Keyboard"
Current keyboard will disappear and Japaneses Keyboard will appear automatically.
if not, you need to flash PoBox Touch keyboard or iWnn or Simeji (from Market)

Handwriting recognition broken

Hello people!
My Galaxy Note has a month of life and i use the stylus a very lot. Form me it's the perfect method of text input, but not all that glitters is gold.
Sometimes when i draw a word it happens that the handwriting recognition process stops working, so i draw words and words but with no way to convert them into full operational text. The only way is to reboot the device.
I write but no line of suggested words appears on top of the writing pad.
I have stock Gingerbread 2.3.6 and it all works smoothly.
Have you any idea on how to solve my problem?
Thank you in advance!
Bump!
I hope that someone can come across and help me find a solution.
Thanks again!
First try this
Go to setting - language - keyboard - samsung keyoard, there will be a reset setting available, reset it. ( i dont remember exact path if slight change in GB, as i m right now on ICS)
If not work then
You can download same ROM and flash using PC Odin
I have the same qualms when I updated to ICS. The handwriting recognition completely bombed. Before it reads my handwriting 8 out of 10 times correctly, now I would be lucky if it gets it right 3 out of 10 tries. I gave up on this and just downloaded SwiftKey X. you should, too!
I suggest that you try out 7Notes by mazec. It has superb handwriting recognition... puts the built-in one to shame. It's readily available in the Play store.
I've been using it for a while now (since it was also recommended by someone here), and find it faster to use than the keyboard alternatives.

[Q] Foxhound 3.4 ROM on S4. Problems typing words with "ae". Turns up as æ

Hi guys. I'm new on this forum.
I've been trying out a number of different roms out there on my S4 until I found the one I like. FoxHound Diamond Dogs 3.4. With norwegian regional settings. Based on Android 4.3 I believe.
But I've discovered something weird while typing. Anywhere on the phone. While SMS messaging, typing URLs in the web browser, typing on facebook etc. The phone doesn't want me to type the letter combination "ae". Instead it replaces them with the letter "æ".
In norwegian we put an "-en" ending to a word sometimes. Pretty much like you in english would put a "the" in front of a word.
For example cola and colaen (the cola). My phone somehow interprets that as I want an "æ" letter. And it refuses to let me go back and correct it and it drives me nuts! Sofæn, colæn etc.
Is this some kind of feature in this ROM that can be deactivated somehow?
Some sort of typing assistant or something.
I installed the swiftkey keyboard to see if that fixed it but it didn't.
Any ideas?
Bump!

I have the same problem! Using FoxHound 4.4, awesome rom, but the "ae" to "æ" is driving me crazy
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Yes. Swiftkey is installed, and the problem is still there. Also checked the settings, cannot find anything that would explain the replacement. Weird..

[Q] Predictive text is drunk, can I sober it up?

I've been using my S5 for a couple weeks, rooted on 4.4.4 NI2. Mostly I'm using the Samsung keyboard since I actually like the layout. Autocorrect has increasingly developed very strange tics which are extremely frustrating, especially since it doesn't let you backspace and correct the word (if you try that it'it'll just "correct" it over and over again, the only solution being to type another word after and then insert a space between them). For instance, one "word" which has spontaneously appeared in my predictive text is it'll'll. It seems to have particular trouble with words using an apostrophe.
Is there any way to root out this obnoxious behavior? When I refurbished my S3 and wound up on 4.4.2 I ended up disabling autocorrect because of similar issues.

You could try going to settings, application, Samsung keyboard and clearing data (maybe cache too if that doesn't work). I also saw where some people said they went to language and input, Samsung keyboard settings, unselected predictive text. Turned off their phone. Then went back and reselected it and it worked better. I like the google keyboard so I don't have these problems.

Well I tried the second option and we'll see how it goes. If that doesn't work I'll try the first option. I'm worried it'll unlearn some of the words I taught it, like "them", "form", and "easy". I heard it had a problem with 4 letter words but I didn't expect those to be among them!
Samsung Keyboard is unusable!
I tried clearing the data, the cache, resetting the predictive text. . . none of it worked. Samsung keyboard seems to have a tic when I use the apostrophe which causes it to insert text that repeats what I just typed. This is coupled with an insistence on "learning" every misspelling I make as the correct way to spell a word and then refusing to change it.
I deleted some stuff when I rooted my S5, more than was recommended in the thread. Maybe that's the problem? Because there's no way Samsung Keyboard could have a big this bad.
Maybe it's time to upgrade from the stock ROM to Eclipse, though I suppose it might not be any better because it's a keyboard problem. Trying different keyboards now.
