Phone shutting down once in deep sleep? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It seems that once my phone has been locked for more than like 10 minutes it shuts off and I have to power it back on. Anyone know why this would happen?

I'm surprised you were able to set it down for 10 minutes. Lol. In all seriousness though, I haven't seen this reported anywhere. It seems like the T-Mobile variant is having the most issues though.

It hasn't done it now and I was watching suits lol pretty good reason and I think it was a little different than I thought the motion detector is was takes the phone out of deep sleep so I essentially shut it off and then turned it on lol also I noticed knock knock works better if you tap slightly harder than a little tap lol

Wake up lag

Hey, do any of you guys get wake up lag? If i don't wake up my phone for about 3 minutes, and I try and wake it up, it takes a good 3-4 seconds to turn on the screen. is this normal? I am running gingerblur, launcher pro, and a fingerprint sensor, so I don't know if that is what is slowing it down.
yeah its normal i have it too. i returned my atrix for the same reason got the new one right out of the box with the same issue
thanks for the quick reply!! hopefully this will be fixed in a future update...
yep. it got used to it already.
Nope. I have no wakeup lag. I would say that mine takes a fraction of 1 second after I press the power button for the screen to be ready to be unlocked.
are you running everything stock motoblur? and do u have fingerprint setup?
Search button anyone? This topic has been done to death....
3-5 secs lag is too much. I tested this (in 1.86) with//without fingerprint lock, with/without launcher pro, with/without GB 3.5 and although fingerprint and LP seem to add a small lag, no combination that I tested had anything close to 3 secs of lag. The few times I've seen that kind of lag in the couple of months I've owned the phone were far and few between.
Yes, 3 seconds or so is normal, sometimes out doesn't turn on. Tomorrow I'm exchanging for an Infuse.

Don't really have 3 secs, I'd say about 1 or max 2. Go louncher ex removed motoblur widgets, everything else stock and live wallpaper.

Turn off fingerprint sensor and problem solved
I have this problem as well, very annoying. It has happened ever since i first booted it. But its weird, even though the screen is off, its is still responsive and i can feel the screen vibrate when i drag where the unlock bar would be across the screen.
If you are using set cpu in sleep below 500mhz you maybe will get a delay/lag

Sent from my loved atrix ;D
No lag.
Only when it boots up the first time but that's expected when all my crap is loading up.
I don't use the finger scanner or password or anything just turn on the volume button and its fast no lag.

How will we get are Nexus 4's out of freezes?

With the n4 just getting root I'm sure there's some kernels/ROMs on the way does anybody have any insight on how we'll be able to get out of freezes of course cause no removable battery? That was the only way I knew before. Thanks

Yea because tablets for the past 3 years with non-removable batteries have been bricked after freezes?
/end thread
According to Nexus4 guide, which comes with the phone, you have to hold down the power button for 10 seconds to reboot the phone.
I guess that can takes you out of a freeze.

Knock the phone 3 times and then say "Potatoes eat there". The phone would automatically switch off.
Power and volume down works for me

I don't trust that method to be 100% reliable, though. Just from experience with my G2x and it freezing. My phone has a button combo that restarts the phone, but sometimes it fails when my phone is frozen and I still have to pull the battery.

On the nexus 4 the 10sec power button reboot is programmed on the hardware layer(pre-boot) and not the software layer. No matter how bad you freeze your phone in the o/s the power button hold will always reboot it plain and simple.
If you have a hardware issue though then your in trouble no matter what.

My nexus 4 just froze 2 min ago after trying to quit a game. I waited for it to do something but nothing happened. Holding power button down did NOT help.
I held the power button and the volume button down at the same time and it worked. Just sharing it with you guys! :good:

[Q] Has anyone found a PGM replacement?

Hey guys
Long time Galaxy Nexus / Galaxy Note 2 user here.
One of my fave apps was the PGM because it allowed control of the phone without hitting the unlock button to unlock it.
I know the dev (who lives in Poland) hasnt gotten an N4 yet, so he hasnt been able to write the kernel tweak yet.
Anyody found any options?
I have been using the app Sleep Tweak. What it does is if you get a text it wakes the phone but doesn't turn on the screen. If you pick the phone up within X seconds after receiving a text the screen turns on. Same with if the phone times out by itself if you pick it up within X seconds it will turn the screen back on. Not the same I know but it lets me decide whether I want the screen to turn on for a text or something.

No answer for you, but a question..
Wouldn't something like PGM (Nexus) drain the battery? As it would require the screen to be "on" to detect any type of touch from the user?

The battery drain was very minimal on my gnex when i was using it, maybe 5% tops.

No,
Snce it's written into the kernel itself the device still deep sleeps and so the effects on battery are minimal.

I mean, that's not bad at all, but man I wish I had 2 N4's I could ship this guy, so we could finally get that.
No lie, it's the ONE app I NEED on a device

5%? No. It's way less than that. When I use it it feels like it has absolutely no impact on battery life because it's a kernel module.

Scrambled Screen

Anyone getting a scrambled screen when pushing the power button to turn the screen on? the scrambled screen is only noticeable for a second or 2. Is it a defective phone? is it something to worry about? It only Happens once in a while.... 1-2 times a day.
I have not experienced this...

Not to bring back an older thread, but I got a replacement device and have noticed the scrambled screen when unlocking a few times now. It doesn't seem to be happening on a majority of the phones or we would be seeing more threads/posts on this.
Not sure what to do now. Wait for an update that might never come or try to get yet another replacement as I am in my 14 day Window still.

Knock-on sometimes unresponsive

Does anyone else have the problem that sometimes your phone requires some real *****-slapping to wake up via knock on? Sometimes it wakes right up but most if the time I have to knock five or six times.
I've tried knocking at different locations and at different intervals but I can't figure out the trick.

I don't have problems with knock on at all. In my case I've found that taping really quickly actualy reduces the sucess rate. Try moderae taps at stedy paste. Also if you cover proximity sensor it won't work. My guess is that it's a "pocket safety" feature to prevent self wake up.
A little bit of practise and you'll get there
No problem at all here, just like double-clicking a mouse:highfive:
but from my experiment, the center area is more responsive than the side, try it with light tap
Hi guys noob question here: I don't have any problems with knock knock but I thought there is supposed to be a knock sound when taping on phone? I can't figure out how to enable the knock sound..can someone help? Thanks
