(Q) motherboard swap 8gb vs 16gb - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought an 8gb n4. Previously I had a 16gb n4 that I now have the motherboard to leftover. Long story. Can I simply swap the old motherboard in my phone to upgrade back up to a 16gb again? Will there be any software/hardware problems? Imei? Root? Phone looking for 8gb but seeing 16gb? Long story short, is it as simple as a hardware swap...factory reset...re-flash favorite Rom...?

It will change the imei obviously. You can swap it, check YouTube for guides.

16GB motherboard in a 8GB Nexus 7?

Very vague... But I have a functioning Nexus 7 16gb motherboard with broken backlight. If i bought an 8 GB Nexus 7, could i swap out the motherboards and put the 16 GBmotherboard in the 8 GB one? I would like to get one fully funtional 16GB Nexus 7 in the end, and wouldn't mind saving $50 if I could.
Thanks!

Technically, I see no reason why that wouldn't work. The only difference between 8GB and 16GB models should only be just that, the size of the internal storage chip, which is on the motherboard.
It would cost less to send the tablet to Asus for a repair. A full screen replacement would most likely be $100 max.
Sounds like good idea.

I heard peoples saying screen repair is costing 170+
If there was a confirmation about the board that would be the best choice. (Spare parts)

It should work. You could sell the spare parts to help cut down the overall cost of the 8GB model. Screen repair via ASUS is said to be $150+.
How did the backlight go out? Sounds like it should be covered under warranty.

All cost reports are $150-170 that I've seen posted...

Also the backlight went out because of the most precise drop ever into a thin metal bar... Very little physical damage, but the display connector that is integral to the screen is seperated slightly... Further the bezel is cracked so i think a new Nexus 7 8 GB would be the best option.
Thanks all!

Should I buy the Nexus 10 32 or 16 GB?

I was going to buy the Nexus 10 32gb for my birthday but when I went to the Play Store, they were sold out . The 16gb models on the other hand are still in stock. I think it will probably be a while until the 32gb N10's get in stock. I intend on rooting my nexus too. So should I wait for the Nexus 10 32gb or just get the 16gb?

Are you a gamer or movie watcher? If yes then get the 32.
If not go with the 16.

I heard it was asus' way of trying to fix the screen lift.
But coking from someone who bought the 16gb model, I would recommend 32gb. You only get around 13 usable gb with the 16 version

Its not a fault it was a change in the manufacturing process. If you buy a 16gb model the screws will be missing too. But only you can answer the question about which model you should get. I would personally go for the 32gb since it has the most space but if you just use your tablet for internet browsing and social media then a 16gb model would be ok,

16 gb to a 32 gb logic board

If I exchange logic boards will it still work? I want to upgrade my memory and figured the memory is probably located somewhere on the logic board.

Anyone?

The logic boards are different and there have been changes made between the different revisions of the N7. You wouldn't be able to simply swap it out. There are schematics and tear-down pics of the 16GB, 32GB, and 32GB 3G version of the N7 that you can take a look at. Ultimately, your best bet would be to sell your 16GB so you can buy the 32GB.

[Q] 8GB RMA, 16GB Replacement?

Hey XDA-ers!
I am going to RMA my 8GB Nexus 7 and I get a new N7 before I send the old one off.
Do you think I would get a 16GB replacement seeming that they don't make the 8GB anymore?

It entirely depends on what they have on hand. If there are refurbished 8GB models available, you'd be sent one of them.
They will rpoabably have you send it to ASUS for repairs rather than rma... I think?

No. They are sending me a replacement first. So when I get the new one I will have 2. Then I will send the old one back.

You have to have a pretty good reason to RMA. I have had yellow spots on my screen.
