I realize this isn't exactly a useful answer, but I've always noticed a slow charge with mine. Now on 4.3 it's even worse. Maybe it's just the norm.
Does anyone else think so?
Dont think so. Mine is charging w/o any issue. It should be the problem with the mini-usb socket on your N7 rather than 4.3.
what an usual charging time should be? I mean wall charger, all stock?

mine is about 2h30'
here is around 6 hours.. regardless of the usb cable or ac outlet. I read some other post where resoldering the usb socket on device helped. I am thinking though of sending it back if doesn't work properly from the start, it's only 2 weeks ago I bought it

Yes, it should be problem with mini usb socket.

Well maybe the ROM or the USB cable, try to charge with another cable.
Try to wipe Battery Stats (in recovery mode)

Have you tried cleaning the port? Might just be dirty contacts.

I am in a similar situation and at the point where I am looking at replacing the microusb/audio jack assembly...hoping someone out there can offer a suggestion that does not go that far or a cheap/reliable source for the replacement part.
I am using an OEM charger and cable...which works fine for my Droid phones so I doubt either is the issue.
The problem started suddenly...cannot charge either on or off and battery is down to about 4%. I left it off hoping to find a fix so it is not 100% dead when it comes time to try again.
I dropped the N7 months ago and had a similar charging issue...learned the battery is not tightly fitted and can shift pulling out the connector...I fixed that and inserted some filler to keep the battery from shifting again. The N7 is out of warranty so I took the opportunity to root it and have had no issue for 3 months until now.
I opened it, checked and re-seated the battery connector and cleaned the plug, battery connector and the USB port itself all to no effect.
Any suggestions on what I can try next?
Thanks All...
Steve
I've had my Nexus 4 for about 2 weeks now and currently it is taking a ridiculously long time to charge. It has been hooked up with the original USB to Micro-USB cable for about 3 hours at it went from 12% to 8% (wtf...) to 10% now and hasn't moved for the past hour. Someone help please
Try charging it from another charger it or a PC. Sounds like your charger is probably faulty.

When you say you switched USBs, you mean a different charger?

Yea
i've got the same issue.
reset the phone may help.
Yeah you could try a factory reset. Failing that, re-flash the stock ROM. Failing that, RMA it.

I'm not entirely sure wether this is a "good" answer but are you charging by USB meaning plugged in your computer or laptop?
Because I've had it with several phones that if you put it in your laptop it doesn't charge or very very slowly. In the PC it goes faster but not as fast as straight from the wall.
Try plugging the charger in a wallplug, see if that helps? And also if you really want to charge by PC, flash a kernel (see Franco's thread) and put it on "Fast charge USB", then it should go at the same speed as wallcharged. (dunno how on stock rom)
-------------
If you meant that you've charged by plugging it into the wall in OP, then I'm sorry, I don't know Or just a faulty charger.
Daydream
disable daydream (while charging)
This also happens to me and I found out that when I plug my phone wall charger, in the battery menu it shows that the phone is charging using "USB" instead of“AC".....any help?

Do you have a custom kernel installed? Maybe there is a faulty setting in there. Worst case scenario is RMA, but try having the phone plugged in and then power the phone down. Once it's off, press the power button (don't hold it) and see if a battery animation comes up. If it does, then keep it plugged in for a few hours and see if it charges any faster...
try a different cable. For me, the cable went bad. when connected to the oem wall wart, my phone would sometimes be charging USB, sometimes A/C. After changing the cable (not the wart), always charges A/C now.
Install a battery utility and verify how much current it is drawing.
Ok, so at one point, my Nexus 7 started taking about 9 hours to fully charge using the stock charger and usb cable. I thought my charger was dead so I bought a 2.1 amp amazon basics charger with a 6 foot amazon basics usb cable. It still takes hours to charge. I read online that there was a bug with Android 4.2 and charging. The reason this CANT be a hardware issue, is because it happoned out of the blue. Didn't drop it, didn't jerk the cable or bend it in the inside or anything. So what's going on? Please help!
Thanks in advance!
P.S. It looses charge when charging and watching a YouTube video now. It never used to do that.

as far as I know, it is a known issue with 4.2.2. I don't think upgrading chargers will work, I tried my iPad's still takes forever to charge. For some reason, the original USB cable works better (at least for me).
Did you install custom ROM's with overclocking maybe?
Has there ever been a cause figured out for the USB charging bug when on AC? I'm on stock 4.4.2. Not rooted or anything at the minute totally stock. It happens with my proper nexus charger that came with the phone and happens with other chargers too. The phone charges stupidly slow when it thinks it's on USB.
Oh and rooting and installing a kernel with fast charge isn't the answer I'm looking for thanks.

Hi so my nexus 4 is charging very slowy, I've this phone for 1 year and I don't know what's happening...Also that might explain (why but)...... if its because of my charger or what. But I need help like I'm just wondering why this is happening? Thanks. Also I don't know if this is happening because of the 4.4 update or something lol?

Apparently something is wrong if you see it charging slowly becoming ever since day one, I've felt that it charges really slow!
The only way to test your theory is to downgrade and see what happens. (as far as the upgrade is concerned)
If you have another charger, obviously that would help as well to see if the n4 charger is shot.

I have recently started seeing this problem as well. I even tired a different kernel thinking maybe that would solve it, but to no avail.
I will try with a different charger and see if that would help.

When you go to the battery history (from quick settings for example), does it show (constantly or alternating) USB charging when lugged to wall socket? When i had this, i changed my USB charging cable (the charger is ok but the cable died quickly)
Charging slow is usually due to the charger, try another one that is at least 1A output (original charger is 1.2). Nokia ac-10x is perfect and pretty cheap.
Other causes can be bad charging port or sometimes even a battery drain caused by software.
Whenever you plug in the charger make sure that your Phone shows "Charging (AC)" in your battery setting. If it says "Charging (USB)" then unplug and replug it again. Keep doing until it shows "Charging (AC)"...... On USB charging it charges at 500mA which is half the charging speed of AC charging. I had this issue and I am doing the same to charge it quickly. It doesn't take more than 2h 15mins to charge.
