how to restore default Samsung app - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, tried searching the exisiting threads and read the help forum, but cant fina an naswer to my problem.
I downloaded and installed the jellybean messaging app for my S4 i9505 as I prefer this messager to the default Samsung one. But every time a message comes through I get two icons, two sound and two notifications for every message, So i uninstalled the default app thinking it just a shortcut to the messaging system and now no messages are coming through. I can still access my messages through the jellybean app.
Does anyone know hoe to recover the default messaging app?
Thanks

Actually would removing the default messaging app actually cause my phone to totally stop sending and receiving sms messages?

ok guys, so turns out it had just been disabled and appears way down at the bottom of the all apps section of application manager
So you can just re-enable it there. Although not sure if my sms is still working if not its obviously a network issue

Eris grey envelope with arrow wont go away HELP!!

Ok so this notification just started on my Eris! when I get a message(only text not emails) this grey envelope with a arrow on it comes up in my notifications even after I’ve read and replied to the message its still there until I click it and i take me to the message that ive already replied to. I’ve turned of all settings has far as auto retrieve and text notification but it still comes up! I deleted a bunch of apps thinking maybe one of them was causing this. I called htc they had no answers but to do a hard reset and lose everything not something I want to do! So if ya know something that would help please let me know thanks!
I found a fix
Aspotcat can be downloaded from the market it will show you what is running with ur text. found out some weird app was on there but no where to be found in my phone deleted it and problem solved!
Okay..seems like you have two text message applications....
IF thats the case, then try the following:
Your stock application can be reached from the app drawer...go there and then open the stock sms application...then go to settings and remove the check next to "notification"....
Now you should only have a notification every time you receive a text from the secondary application you're using..(i.e., handcent, byte sms, etc)
Now if you did that and your message is still showing..delete all of the messages in the stock application...this should clear it...or then simply open every single text up..(im sure you're running threaded messaging so it'll be a little eaiser)
If that still doesnt work...repeat the following using your secondary messaging application (handcent..blah blah)
Now if you did that and your message is still showing..delete all of the messages in the stock application...this should clear it...or then simply open every single text up..(im sure you're running threaded messaging so it'll be a little eaiser)
If you're still having problems...and are on a rooted rom....reflash a custom rom and you'll be fine!!

[Q] Installed LauncherPro and no more text notifications

Hey guys,
I had to start from scratch after too many freezes, forced reboots, & instabilities with my Vibrant. I reinstalled LauncherPro and in the LP Preference Settings, I checked the 'Unread SMS count' setting in Dock Settings and I get no more system notifications & sounds when I receive new text messages. It shows the unread messages ok in the LP Dock, but no sound or any sign of the new message in the Notification Bar. I tried unchecking 'Unread SMS count' to see if that fixed it, but no go. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix? Somewhere in the Settings menu?
Thanks!
I'm running 2.1 Stock with Root and ext2 lagfix. Using stock Messaging app.

Figured it out. Moderators: Please delete this thread. Thanks!
What was it?
Haha - I/O
I was looking for the Samsung Messaging settings while I was in a thread. I just had to back out to the main screen of the Messaging app to find the settings. Then checked the 'Notifications' setting and it was all good. I/O, lol!

[Q] Duplicate Message Notifications

Hi Guys,
I have had an ongoing problem with my phone for some time, persisting throughout different ROM flashes and full wipes.
I use Handcent SMS, and have notifications turned on, it's a blue icon.
I receive this notification, and another mysterious one from i don't know where.
The other one is white and displayed in the photo below.
One would assume it's the default SMS app that's displaying it, but...
I have most definitely turned off notifications in the default SMS application, and have no other SMS apps installed, just the default "Messaging" and Handcent.
Also, when i read the message, it doesn't clear until i manually "Clear all notifications". IIRC, i even removed the default SMS app and still got those messages, but i can't be certain of that as it was awhile ago.
Has anyone else experienced this, and know of a way i can fix?
Any help would be most appreciated.
The notifications appear as such...
"You have an unread message"
"You have 0 unread messages"

A bit hard to to be sure without a screen shot - try uploading it to imageshack and posting a link (you'll to need to change the link a bit such that XDA doesn't recognize it as a link).
Most likely it is the default messaging app, Please recheck that notifications are disabled there. If they are, you can also try to enable them, and see if you now get 3 notifications on each SMS....
Hi, Thanks for the reply =)
Interesting, I enabled notifications in the default sms app and now i get 3 notifications!
So i can only assume it's something else!
I have two screenshots...

This is a photo with the 3 notifications (if i enable notification in the default sms app)

Ok, so it aint the default messaging app. What happens when you press on the notification? Maybe it opens this app?
I guess this might be a little extreme, but you can always do a full wipe, and then do a clean install - verify you get only one notification with a clean install (no apps). Then start installing your apps and try to find out which is the offending app. If you do want to do this, I suggest you wait a few days, I should release a bugfix version 1.1.9 shortly.
BTW, there are easier/better ways to take screen shots, like "ShootMe" on the market, or the ddms utility which comes with the andoird SDK if you have adb working.

Great, thanks very much for the advice. I'll wait for the new Floyo release and try a process of elimination.
Also, loving your Floyo ROM.. it's improved my Hero immensly \o/
Much appreciated, keep up the good work =)

Can somebody help me with BetterCut shortcut?

Hello,
I've got a weird problem I'm trying to solve with bettercut. I think it should be relatively easy, but I'm stumped and was wondering if somebody could help me out.
I use an HTC Legend and I like SenseUI too much to change to another launcher. I use an App called SMS Popup to notify me of new messages, but this app - combined with SenseUI - creates a bug with the default Messages shortcut.
Basically, when I mark a message as Read with the SMS Popup, the default Messages shortcut keeps the notification badge telling me I have unread messages. Which is annoying, because to fix this I have to go into the messaging app, scroll to the message I've already read in order to convince SenseUI I've read it.
So basically, what I'm trying to do with BetterCut is launch the SMS app without the system treating it as a Shortcut that needs a notification badge. I read all of my SMSs immediately mostly so I never need it to tell me how many I need to read.
So far, I have the intent as:
android.intent.action.RUN
and the data as:
com.android.MMS
However, when I select this shortcut, it says the app isn't installed.
So could somebody help me either:
1. Make a shortcut with BetterCut to the default Messaging app which won't show notification badges
or
2. Turn off notification badges entirely, because I don't use them for email either and they kinda piss me off.
Thanks!
PS. I've searched forums and google extensively for this, so I wouldn't be asking if I hadn't already tried
Cheers
EDIT: Ah, this was supposed to go in Android General. Sorry.
you can also opt for an other sms program at all
for ex http://www.appbrain.com/app/handcent-sms/com.handcent.nextsms
this is an sms manager with an popup function in one

Unable to change SMS app

When I add another sms application to my Samsung S8 plus the messages I have sent do not appear in the new sms app. I only see the messages I received and I have gone in and made the new sms application the default app. I have tried using Google and Textra for sms with same results. Odd issue but I saw someone else posting about this on a different forum.
Anyone know why the messages I have sent are not showing up when trying to use a different sms application?
