[Q] Resize text in messaging app - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone found a way to resize the text in the messaging app without changing it globally? It is rather large for my taste.
Not interested in a 3rd party app.
Thanks

you can pinch to zoom or out in the stock texting app.

Pinch the screen in either direction within a text conversation and it will either increase or decrease the bubbles and font size.

Sweet thanks!

Does this work on the international version? Cuz it doesn't work for me :-S

I find the stock messaging app pretty crappy. Even with small font setting with pinched out fully, it's still big for my taste. Also, did ya guys notice how slow it is?
Anyways.. I use chompSMS app as an alternative. It's pretty darn perfect and fast!

If you're rooted then use xposed framework and download the app settings module. That will allow you to change the size of the messaging app/text in the bubbles. That was the only work around that worked for me, other than using a whole other SMS app. I recommend using 8sms if you haven't found a replacement app or a solution to your stock size.

How well do you like it?
I noticed the led isn't flashing with it.
I'm a big fan of handcent- been using it for the past year. I love the customize options it offers.

I have used it for quite awhile and really like. I also liked how you could set you default messaging to it on eclair, however have noticed on the Froyo builds it doesn't give me that option (ie... click on stock messaging app and it will open handcent). I also like the customizations that you can do for each contact along with custom notifications for each contact.

my led flashes using handcent. I really like handcent especially for the popup notifications.
I have been using handcent on my last 2 phones. I have never had any problems with it and I love the high level of customization options.
Used it and liked it a lot. I had to ditch it, though, because when my automated work pager would send out texts, it would show two. No idea why, but it was a Handcent issue.
Big fan of Handcent. I really like the popups. Been back and forth between Chomp and Handcent but have been sticking with Handcent.

I was able to set it as default for messaging icon and swipe to text on call log. Using launcherpro btw

I absolutely do not. I don't see what the point is. Tried it and went back to stock Messaging app. Nothing there for me.
Stock app wastes a lot of space with user pics. Plus limited config options.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Tried it and hated it. Never liked the bubble style messaging. I like the stock better, just seems cleaner and easier to read.

Handcent is great. You can change nearly everything, including the chat style. Chat bubbles are not the only option. There is a style that is similar to, but better than, the stock app. The mms shows up in the chat screen unlike the way the stock app does a stupid slide show. Handcent also backs up your mms, even allowing you to select the back up directory. The popup chat window is also very nice. The ablility to respond so easily is extremely useful. At first, the number of config options is overwhelming.
I use launcher pro plus on my phone. I had handcent on my evo and now on my epic. It is far superior to the oem app on both phones. Remember to disable the notifications in the stock app so you don't get double notifications. The nice thing about launcher pro, other than being much better than touchwiz in every way, is that you can set handcent to default for messaging. This completely eliminated the use of the oem app.
Epicly posted using the xda app!
+1 for handcent. Its rad! Something you don't like? There is a config option to change it more than likely.
Only beef is the outragous $6 price for pro. So many options to reset every flash. Fixed this with mybackup pro data restores.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I've tried both but prefer ChompSMS. Look into both, they're very similar.
My wife and I both love it!
It is just so customizable. The free version has worked fine for our needs.

After seeing the advice about the settings, I'm sold on Handcent now. Takes a while to deal with all the customization in there but now that I have it looking more like the stock without the bubbles and white backgrounds it definitely is nice. The pop up on the lock screen is nice, and so is being able to select recipients instead of having to type their names. Way more features than stock.
I've use Handcent on any Android phone I've had and love it
Is there a way to set this as default when clicking the Messaging app in the dock on touchwiz? And I don't mean opening messaging then composing from handcent.

[Q] Best Text Messaging App For Nexus 4?

I don't like the stock SMS app because of the text alignment so i've been searching for a good DECENT STANDARD messaging app. I do not want anything fancy, I want something that fits the Nexus 4 theme considering I have a Nexus 4. I want something that's good & responsive.
There is no best, it's completely subjective. Try out a few of the most popular SMS apps on the play store and figure out which one suits you best, its probably faster than waiting for replies.

The only third party SMS app I've used is GoSMS and that was alright.
I´m using chomp SMS, and has been for a couple of years. It has everything I need. =)

(Request) Inverted Stock Messaging App

I'm really liking the stock messaging app; but I hate the White. Has anyone found an inverted one? I want it too be fully functional so I can use it with my Galaxy gear.

DPI adjustments

Hey everyone,
Was wondering if anyone had tested various DPI settings and have a list of working ones?
Gui on this phone is way to large.

I've tried several: 280, 300, 320, 360, 400 & 420...all worked fine but you'd see issues in certain apps, and certain apps would jump into tablet mode (pretty sure that was on the lower ones, of course).
I stuck on 420 since it still shrinks things considerably down from the stock 480 but most apps don't have overlapping or other issues. The only app I've noticed an issue is the dialer, but not the phone on inbound or ongoing calls, just when you are dialing the number. You can still see the numbers and hit each with no problem, it's just shrunk up a little strangely. Other than that I'm loving 420 (no pun intended ). :good:
Awesome. What are you using to change dpi? On my note 2 with exposed you were able to choose dpi per application, anyone know if the module is working for that?
Can't remember the name of the mod.
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app
Found it.
In downloads, app settings. If you use this you can modify only apps you want so you don't have to worry about compatibility or force closing system gui.
I set Novo launcher lower and a few other apps.

Update:
I changed the system ui to 420, along with Novo(remove shadow from desktop), and messaging and it looks perfect.
Fyi this doesn't break or distort the phone app.

Thanks for mentioning that module. I hadn't taken the time to look through all the options as I downloaded and set up a ton through Wanam's module and was pretty satisfied. Really glad you mentioned it so I can get the one wrinkle ironed out. Appreciate it bro!
If anyone plays around with SystemUI DPI and sees it kick into tablet mode with the bottom navigation bar please do tell which DPI setting!

I read in other threads that you were really interested in getting the bottom bar style tab mode going, and I know I mentioned tablet mode above in my response but that was only in apps, the System UI never changed...and I believe the person who responded to you in the other thread is correct - 4.3 android doesn't have that built in to the system UI as an option.
For example, before my Note 3 I had an Nexus 4 and was running Paranoid Android - the developers had to basically make tablet mode from scratch to keep the traditional bottom bar style going after 4.3. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I thought you should know. Of course somebody could endeavor to build it like PA did or we could get PA at some point but without that I doubt you'll find your holy grail anytime soon.
Also guys you'll want the play store fix. Play store by default will his apps based on your dpi, This mood will fix that.

Yeah, I use either 320 or 360 mostly when I want to change an app. 320 can be a little bit too small sometimes, but right around that zone I think is ideal. Though I really haven't changed a ton of apps, mostly System, Chrome, reddit, Facebook, XDA, Go SMS that I can think of off the top of my head.

Agreed, though I went as low as 360 for System, just because I wanted notifications to be shorter in the pull down so I can see more. I usually have several persistent ones in there now, so I want to be able to see all of my actual notifications as well.
See attached for notification size @ 360 dpi.

I've been using it for over a month now and I love it. I couldn't stand the stock messaging app. Even with the various theming available, I hated the way it looked. 8sms has been super reliable for me and I like the look of it so much better. I use the dark theme.
