I've already ordered a Nexus 4; but today I've just found out about a sweet deal to get the HTC One for a 30-40% discount. So...should I sell my Nexus 4 after it arrives and buy the HTC One? Which one's better?
HTC One - awesome build, slightly better specs
Nexus 4 - still an awesome phone; still cheaper than a HTC One even after a 40% discount

Why sell? If it comes via mail than you can just refuse to take it - at least in Germany that means you don't take it :silly:
Or send it back. If you want to sell it...well, don't know any store other than Google that sells this device for 250€. If you can sell it as new on ebay you might sell it for 300€
Or if they haven't shipped it yet you can just cancel your order
If you want some advice whether to take HTC One or Nexus 4 - I've never touched HTC One but I am pretty pleased with Nexus 4
Google likes their own children. HTC is like Googles adopted child. The difference is one gets special treatment and the other may be left hanging for as long as drivers are concerned.

Yeah maybe I cancel the order but I reckon somebody would buy it off me anyway(I'd throw in the Seidio Active case I ordered for it too ).
So anyway, I'm unable to decide as I know the Nexus4 is still an awesome phone. The basic question is: Which one is more future proof? I'm not one of those people who upgrade their phones every couple of months.
I would from a software point of view the N4 is more future proof... Your more likely to get android updates from Google than you are from HTC. It all depends on whether you want the hardware or software.

I agree; I've been wanting to buy the N4 since it released. The only thing that makes me apprehensive is people telling me that it's delicate because of its glass back. I wouldn't even think about the HTC otherwise.

HTC One has a google developer edition too. So I'm guessing any ROMs made for the dev edition can be easily flashed onto the normal edition.
Every phone has its pros and con's. I wouldn't mind test driving the HTC one. Seems like a top notch device.

hi,
some ******** stole my HTC legend. the phone was good to an extent but i soon got bored with it, the resolution was crappy and screen was small. i bought the phone a while back when it was the only android phone on the market.
one of the main things with my legend was the pain you had to go through to root it(never got to it ) and i ended up using it only for music and reading/browsing. my legend use to lag pretty bad and battery life was also very bad had to recharge every 12 hrs.
i was in two minds whether i needed a hpone >$450. just when i saw the nexus one being offered for a steal(260-270). now couple it with a 32 gb memory card (+50) then the phone is still worth a buy.
there are several +ses for the device even though is seems like a decade ago
1 damn good processor
2 the resolution is still more or less as the ones being offered by new phones
3 the updates/rooting/custom rom seem to be a breeze(at least from the forums ps i am comparing it to my legend )
con (cant think of too many)
1 screen is not the latest tech
2 front camera(from third world country 3G yet to catch on yes i WILL NOT be using the phone in the US)
UnSure
1 battery life
2 any lag while mutlitasking
3 good for faming?
4 ease of rooting
so please let me know if the phone is worth it !!!!
(please feel free to correct me where i am wrong)
(i would appreciate it if someone could give me a link to a lower price than 270 current amazon price)
am going to be playing around with this phone a lot (i.e. if i end up buying it)
in case any of you advice me to hold off for another phone let me pointout that i am going to need at least 32gb on the phone onboard+card i.e which i would consider as the final price of the phone
thanks in advance
Merlyn
Its pretty much a no brainier. I can't reply to every point, but just buy it and load cyanogen ROM and it can't be beat.
hi,
i read the wiki article saying that google will keep this phone primarily for developers which means future updates will be released on this phone before others ??

Well yes this is/was the flagship developer phone which is always getting the latest version of android. But then Google released the nexus s so now both are kept up to date.
But we don't know how much longer the nexus one will keep getting updates cause its getting older. But it will definitely keep getting updates from cyanogen for long time to come.
Had mine for over a year and never been bored! Go for it...
Battery life is great! Get a second battery and switch them around every two months or so, I can have pretty much all my radios on all the time (gps only activates when it needs to) and full brightness with a good amount of surfing and music streaming and still get through a day easily!

You can buy them used in good condition for $250 or so. I'm waiting to get my new phone in a few days and will be selling my near mint Nexus One with car dock and two desk docks for around $325. ;-)

its 100% worth it. i bouth the 19020a 7 months ago for 350$ and still dont think i wasted a cent. would probably pay it again if i broke this one
The Nexus S is one of the greatest mobile devices ever made. The hummingbird combo is such a strong processor for it's time, paired with a wonderful screen, sleek black look and styling, and most of all, a Wolfson DAC for top notch sound quality.
I would buy a Nexus S just as a ipod or ipod touch replacement. The fact that it's a phone too is a great bonus. The downside of course is only 16gb internal storage so some may need to be selective with what media you put on there, or get your cloud on.
Personally I'd try to get a GNex on the Google Play Store, its 150$ more and you probably won't get that (darn why did I get a year & half old phone) idea in your head lol It is still a great phone but if you've tried a 720p screen before its hard to go back to a 480p resolution, not to mention you'd be getting like an extra year of official Google support, who knows how many more official updates our Nexus S will get haha. Back on topic, yes the Nexus S is a great phone and you'd be getting amazing AOSP ROMs along with it but don't expect fully functioning sense and touchwiz ROMS, they are great but very buggy IMO.

When i bought this phone 1 year ago there were already dualcore phones but the price of nexus s and knowing that it is official google phone attracted me to it.Today nexus s has ICS and soon coming JB ,my brothers LG O2X according to harware specs much better then nexus has GB on it and it performs much slower to my 4.0.4 offical ROM.So i would recomend this phone to everyone.I love it so much
Just want to know if there's worth to do the change or to wait for the next nexus.

I am more seriously considering the rumoured Nexus 4 32GB LTE, if that phone is a flop I may pick up an HTC One later this year.
I had it and liked it a lot. The only reason I went back to my N4 was because I'm scared of how well it will get updated. Overall though I may pick it up again. Its beautiful, fast and everything about it works. I miss some of its kool features already.
Sent from my Nexus 4
Personally, after being sucked into the Nexus line (pun not initially intended, but halfway through typing, fully intended), I won't be leaving for a long time. The Nexus 4 is just such a great phone, and no manufacturer getting in the way of tweaking it. Plus, it's probably half the price of the One. If you're signing a contract, then you have to weigh the pros and cons of that.
Anyway, no, I'm not getting the One. The decision to upgrade can only be made by you. Good luck.
I actually 'downgraded' (ordered the HTC One, waited for a month for it to ship and when I saw they will not have any more stock for a long time, I cancelled the order and bought the N4). I do not regret it at all, seeing how fast it is.

What makes you think a HTC One is an upgrade from a Nexus4?
Will you still think ANY of the above phones are an upgrade when the Nexus4 is sporting Android 5 and they are all still on Android 4.1???

The upgrading is quoted which means that I don't necessarily think it's an upgrade. But it is an upgrade in hardware cause it comes with bigger screen ,faster processor and else.
In the software I really don't care cause devs will always keep up with Google as the CM project.

Once you go Nexus you can't go back!!!
You have been warned!!!
unless the nexus 5 blows me away, I'll probably wait for the 6. I got bills to pay so I can't upgrade every 6 months to whatever "it" phone is on the market like some of u guys. Even though the N4 has a very good camera, I'd like to see Google step up their game and make the next iteration have one of the best cameras on the market.. Also have a 32GB option and I'm good.

The hardware is great, typical HTC, but as long as they are stuck on stupid when it comes to skinning the UI I won't be buying another non-nexus device (unless I go back to apple.)
The One is great, but 600 Euro??? Like an apple phone...
So I'll use my Nexus in the next months.

Sorry, I know this topic is EVERYWHERE but I still cannot decide..
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S3. I'm thinking of getting the N4 just cause its so cheap, however I've been looking at the HTC One as well.
Hardware wise, HTC one leads.. I love the front facing speakers, and the fact that its HTC makes it even better.. I loved the HTC Nexus One, so solid...
I'm still torn between these two phones, and I need someone to let me know what I should go for. Is it worth the extra $250-$300 for the HTC one? OR should I just get the N4?
Thanks
Indeed
Get it and don't look back. Whatever you do though, get the 16gb version. The 8gb version just leaves you with 5 gbs of usable data, and that is noooo good. I get better battery life than my girlfriend who has an s3, and I am constantly beating her phone in very unscientific tests that I run.
:silly:
The Nexus is a beautiful phone, how about getting it...and if you don't like it sell it and get the One. You would get pretty much all your money back as they are very popular
yea you could get a lot of money if you sell it afterwards just for the fact it is unlocked out of the box:good:

I use the N4, but if I were to get a new phone today, I would definitely consider the One. I think it's designed really well and I too like the idea of front facing speakers. I like having music on around me and when I'm away from home, I'll often use my phone for playing music. When it's convenient, I'll use my earbuds. When not, I may have to resort to playing it through the speaker. Even with the LG bumper lifting the back off the surface it's resting on, the sound coming out of the speaker is more tinny and muffled compared with my past phones. Finally, while I enjoy the design of the N4 and its liberal use of glass, it does have a certain sense of fragility to it which I don't associate with the aluminum clad One. If you do get an N4, I''m sure be unhappy. But I wouldn't mind if I could get LTE data speeds.
HTC One and the Nexus 4 are tough. If you can manage putting AOSP on the One, it'd be awesome. I'd have a tough time too.
Get two nexuses!

I think your comparison is really not that ... Uhhhh... Justified... Esp due to the price range... If you want to decide between newer high end phones it should probably be the ONE vs the S4... Not the One vs the N⁴...
I personally do love the n⁴ but I must say the ONLY 2 things which gives it an edge over anything else is the Vanilla/prompt updates, and the reasonable price. If I had the extra money to spend I would definitely get the ONE or S⁴ Google Edition... Alas I don't tho...
So if you could get the One then I would say go for that... Just try to get the unlocked boot loader version (developer edition) so you can do as you please with roms...

I think it will be and I'll tell you why...
If Its unlockable then you can get to the latest firmware updates if not the same day, within say 2-3 weeks using cyanogen or some ROM who will update...
Your getting a better camera and screen and aluminium body with front stereo speakers... That's excellent hardware well worth the extra money... Because if you use the phone alot... All these factors come Into play in the long run... If your more of a casual user who primarily uses the phone as a phone... Then its probably not worth the extra money...
In my opinion my phone is like a laptop replacement... I use it ALOT... Hence I rather spend more on a phone than a Computer as the computer just collects dust with a powerful smartphone...

You have to keep the retail price in mind. If you get the HTC one and a new phone comes out, how popular will your phone become? The HTC one x was a good phone but as of now it's selling for around $230 on eBay. I had a galaxy nexus which was released 2 years ago and I still sold out for 280.

Hey guys,
I am thinking about getting a Nexus 4 to replace my HTC Sensation. The Sensation has many problems such as huge battery drain and it gets extremely hot during usage. So I thought the Nexus 4 would be a great idea. Pure Android (huge fan of that, was using CM for a long time on my Senny) and Google Support sound good and the price seems to be okay to (I could buy a 16GB variant for about 310€).
Is this phone great? Is it still worth buying considering it's already nearly a year old? Does it have some know problems such as huge battery drain or display problems?
I need this phone for browsing, using the calendar, writing emails/sms and sometimes taking photos. I don't play any games on it except 4 pictures 1 word.
Thanks in advance!
I too came from a Sensation, and it's a fine upgrade, for all the reasons you mention. Perhaps not as durable as HTC's build quality, so be sure to include a decent cover (I use the Diztronic TPU and it looks factory) to protect that beautiful glass. It's a joy to use..you can't go wrong. Cheers!

Honestly, if that is all you use your phone for, you should get the Lumia 1020. But if you want to stay with Android and can wait 4 more months, the 5th Nexus will be out then and should the price be as low as the Nexus4, then it would be better to get that.

The Lumia 1020 would be out of the price range. I'd never pay 400€+ for a phone I only use for work. I probably can't wait till the next release because the Senny really bugs me. I can't use a phone which burns in my hand because it's getting extremely hot while chewing through battery like nothing. My Sensation barely gets through the day with moderate use.
€: And I don't like WP because I'm a huge fan of costumization.
Keep the Sensation or whatever you have and wait for Nexus 5, trust me on this.

I can't sincerely tell someone to purchase a 7 month old device when knowing a faster device will come for the same price in due time.
Well you can go on buying Nexus 4, everything is a beauty when you compare prices and then it is a google phone so it always have it perks.
If you think you should wait for nexus 5 then its not very much pretty soon bcz this time google launched s4 and htc one as google variant which means next nexus will take time.
Your tasks which u need to perform as you have mentioned would all be performed very well.
Tip I can give even for better battery.
Unlock the bootloader, use custom recovery such as CWM and flash CM 10.1 stable releases which ever is latest.
Find franco kernel and flash that and for better colours use its colour profile.
You will have an outstanding experiance with great display and great battery time.
Best of luck.
NOTE. All decision is urs what ever suits you best.

People will and should buy the device that suits their needs and the price they are willing to pay.
If you want a unlocked / contract free phone the device is a good choice
The entire motion that a new device will be out in a couple months is pointless. He wants a phone now. A couple months is just that. A couple months living with a phone he doesn't want. Then when the next nexus device comes out there will be the next best thing on the horizon.
He a is a basic user that doesn't participate in the stupid I need the lastest and greatest hw spec race.
Sitting around waiting for 4 plus months for a device is just stupid.
Why buy a HTC one now? The plus version is coming? Why by a s4 now? The advanced or whatever version with the 800 is coming in a couple of months.

To each their own, I cannot speak for the needs of TC nor their personal interests. Whether he's comfortable with waiting X months is currently unknown and has not been divulged in this topic, so we can agree to disagree.
He said he probably can't wait for the next release because his phone bugs him.
Even a device like the HTC first would suit him fine hardware and software wise. Not unlocked and cheap of course ( don't even think it launched outside the US or unlocked) but just talking the device itself
There are plenty of users who are not concerned with the I can read the spec sheet pissing matches. Wait for the latest and greatest chip so they can have a higher score in benchmarks etc.
Its definitely still worth buying full price. Its a great device especially if you're a fan of stock android like you said.
Happy phoning.
I really don't need high specs. Benchmarks never intersted me because at the end you probably won't feel any difference between for example the snapdragon 600 and the snapdragon 800 in everyday use. I just want the phone to work well without stuttering and without any hick ups.

If you need a phone now, just go for it. If you are not in a hurry, you can wait and see what comes up. IMO I usually don't want the first batch of the phone anyway since they are usually the ones with problems.
just buy it
I highly recommend nexus 4.. Believe me it's as smooth as HTC one out even better..
Root and flash cyanogenmod and Franco kernel... That made me a delighted user from a happy user...
Besides it'll have developer support for hell lot of a time to come... Even after people forget about HTC one and s4..
:good::good:
I'm going to buy it at the end of August and I think it is still worth it. However reading this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2259334 scaried me!
