[Q] Nexus 4 vs. S4 vs Note 2 or something else? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Google/Samsung Nexus was just bought back from Square trade, so I'm looking for a replacement phone.
I've ordered a Galaxy Nexus 4 but am having 2nd thoughts (Paid $250+s/h/tx so about $282 or so).
I've seen USED Galaxy S4's on craigslist and ebay for the $400 range and the Note 2 for a little more.
And I can get the Google / Samsung S4 for $649 through the play store, but can't really justify paying $400 more.
Any advice?
If I can't cancel the order, is it worth refusing shipment or sending it back at the cost of shipping?

This is obvious since you asked in a Nexus forum, the answer is also obvious if you ask in a Galaxy forum.
It's up to you. Have you used a Galaxy S3 or S4 before? Are there features from the S4 that you desired like better camera, removable battery or microSD slot? I think the S3 or S4 is better for most people.
I prefer the Nexus 4 since I like the stock Android experience, gets update faster, pentaband 3G radio, not worrying about locked bootloader. Also I like the nicer build of the Nexus 4, not a fan of Samsung build quality lately.

Nexus because Samsung releases a new phone every second and the older models won't get updates or very late.
I can tell from experience.

Thanks
Thanks guys for the reply.
Just 2 concerns about the GNex 4:
1) I hate that it has an internal, non-replaceable battery. Does this bother you? How IS the battery life anyway?
2) I'm really upset that otterbox doesn't make a defender case for this. I'm really concerned about cracking the screen (again). Any recommendations on a really good case close to the defender
3) Anyone who owns a GNEX 4 and an S4? Is there a HUGE difference in quality, speed, etc. that justifies paying $200-$300+ more?
Thanks guys
Brad

You ordered a phone without knowledge and it's not a galaxy nexus its a NEXUS ⁴..wtf

A great case I bought is the acase supper legga pro. It is a rubber case with a plastic shell and is very protective yet not to thick. It had sacred my phone twice already.
As for the battery.. Just don't have a ton of crap running in the background and you will be fine. If you are tally a heavy user then get a portable charger and you week so save hundreds of dollars.
Great phone and I'm sure you will love it. I came from a Galaxy myself and have never looked back.

look i tell u i ahd a s4 before it was simply horrible i sold it to my brother and got nexus 4 and im FREAKING HAPPY whit it jsut loveeee it at least dont get s4 if u dont want nexus!! but im telling u if storage not a big deal this is just freaking awesome else..! u ahve to but another phone xperia z ultra or anything i loved the z ultra btw sadly no rooting for now!!

I have both gs3 and nex4.
Like mentioned already, camera, extendable storage, swappable battery are the common pro's for the Samsung line, along with other pros and cons.
The performance difference is night and day. The n4 has more spark to it. Gs3 are laggy at times and have the annoying "stutter" while swiping thru homescreens or dock pages.
Not to mention bloat ware.
Battery life on the n4 is not that bad like people make it seem. Mine is fresh out of the box and get 4.5 hours screen time and 12.5-13hrs on time. Using it normally, browsing the net and what not.
Screen quality is also different, meaning better on the galaxy s3 as far as details. But the n4 has more of a natural picture. Easy on the eyes and outdoors, wow crisp and bright vs the gs3 outdoors was impossible to see the screen without cupping hand over it to block sun. The gs3 has this "yellowish" tint when compared side by side.
Style, n4 is beautiful, sexy, slick, it will draw attention. Not like the gs3 and gs4 that 7 out 10 people have it already.
Sound quality, n4 has good call and loud speaker sound, gs3 wins this one also. Gs3 much louder and better quality. Not a deal breaker to me.
Woah didn't realize the length of my post Lol. I will cut to the chase, Nexus 4 ftw! Galaxy s3 is officially retired and will be used as spare.

I have an S4, but long thought about a Nexus 4 like you for $250. I originally didn't get a N4 because I had a GNex and I didn't see much difference spec wise besides the quad core and photosphere. Both had a 2100mAh battery. IMO, you did alright. You got a new N4 for $250. I'm kinda burnt out on Nexus so the S4 is a nice change. TW isn't as bad as I thought, the 13meg camera is fantastic and the 2600mAh battery holds up great. If you hadn't gotten the N4, I'd say spend another $150 for the S4, but since you have the N4, I think you'll be fine. At least you get the latest updates from Google, not so with Sammy...

Heh I just posted a similar question I had about Nexus 4 vs HTC One. I had ordered the Nexus too along with a Seidio case. Now I'm contemplating if I should get the HTC One instead. Have you decided?

Nexus 4 best bang for the buck phone right now imo. If you're not worry about money maybe an HTC One.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.
I've decided to go with the GOOGLE Samsung Galaxy S4 for $650 for the following reasons:
1) Squaretrade gave me $599 so I may as well spend it while I have it
2) I *REALLY* need a good camera for mystery shopping
3) Replaceable battery
4) Google version (https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=samsung_galaxy_s4) because I can get another squaretrade warranty AND get the latest updates a la nexus
5) I can get an otterbox defender case for it
I went to see it today at Radio Shack and the rep had one himself on Sprint.
He showed me that not only is the display 1080p, it shoots video in 1080p!
He said you can download blueray movies off the play store and transmit it wirelessly to a flat screen TV with a USB dongle thingy IN 1080P blue ray quality! That's pretty cool!
He also said it has a built-in "power saver" mode that saves lots of battery life when the added power is not needed.
And the screen is absolutely GORGEOUS!
Google said all I have to do is refuse shipment and they will refund everything.

Retail store is MORE (typically $699) and locked to the carrier, but most importantly the GOOGLE version is just like the NEXUS line -- gets the updates immediately upon release and not dependent on the manufacturer!
I figure if I put it in an otterbox defender case and take care of it, I should get at least two maybe three years use out of it!

Hmmmm.... Half right. Google just supplies the source code early to the manufaturer. Samsung/HTC (Depending on the device) still handles all the updating, but Google makes them work a little faster and they get to bypass the carriers. Thats why they usually get updates a little later then the Nexus phones.

Just a note for your own knowledge...
Just because its a Google edition device doesn't guarantee it will be updated like a Nexus. Google edition devices are nothing new and updates are handled my the phone manufacturer not Google.
The N4 also shoots video in 1080..
Your other reasons are obviously your opinion and glad it helped you with your decision .. However to me the N4 screen and camera look great. I have compared to new devices and I just don't see it.. I also don't see why everyone downs on the N4 camera.. I've taken some damn nice pics with it.. But that's my opinion.

Sounds like you fell for the salesman mumbo jumbo, haha. However, you obviously like it so that's good.

You've played the system well, so far, but there's one final step... in a couple of weeks sell the s4 and buy the Nexus 5.

Nexus 4 worth the wait (or get S2x?)

So, I would have gotten the N4, I have been waiting months now and now am kind of going to give up.
I can get a S2x for $280 Canadian all in, new and paid for..
I would love to wait for the n4 to be instock, I would get it after my big trip to asia that I will require a good mobile internet device. I also find i like to have a couple of spare batteries when I go boating for gps or hiking and other things like this where it is nice to have a backup full battery for emergency use.
I am also very hard on phones as I use them for work, i have to whip it out constantly rain or shine, and they get dropped often, so I will be upgrading from a very tough device, 9700 blackberry that has falled on cement at least 50 times or more, also been ran over by a car, dropped in water twice, and used in wet weather constantly.
I just want a fast and cheap device, either phone will cover that, but I wonder what one will be the toughest ?
Yeah I don't know why Google is encouraging the closed system phone (You can't open the battery or anything), that's what I hate about the iPhone.
The Nexus 4 is still a good phone, but if you go hiking or on trips frequently, I wouldn't suggest it as your battery may die when you need it the most.
How ever, it's not hard to carry an old phone with you (A Brickphone), to use when your Nexus 4 dies.
You can find those old crappy phones for like $15 on Craigslist
If you often drop your phone then I'd avoid the Nexus 4 if I were you!
Battery life isn't great either. And the camera sucks imho. And storage is tight. I'm starting to have some regrets about mine now if I'm perfectly honest.
Camera doesn't suck

Did some tests yesterday comparing against friends HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3 and my old Xperia arc S. My Nexus 4 camera was by far the worst of the bunch, especially indoor shots. Outside in bright conditions it's not bad. I've taken a lot of pictures with mine now and am generally unhappy with the quality. Focus seems to be a real problem (hopefully this can be rectified with a s/w fix) but detail is lacking and images look washed out in comparison with other devices.
The 2011 Xperia arc S camera blows the Nexus 4 one away. I guess I was spoilt with that device.
I waited from nov 13 to 29 for mine and love it.

PS it says Canada only - STOKED - cause I am will speak out 711 (rogers) and so I will be getting LTE out of this on unlimited browsing for $10 a month too ! LOL KOODO and all the other rip off mobile providers and sellers in Canada, including the iphone, I don't even need to jailbreak, unlock or have your logo on my phone

Wanted the N4 but waiting for it to ship out hurts. I think I might go back to my S2X.
Whats this about it being on sale for $280? i saw it at koodo for $250.

Android 4.2 for some reason isnt as battery friendly as 4.1. Battery life gets better with a few cycles and some of the kernels offer great battery life ( matrix kernel).

Have note 2 but love htc one. Good or bad decision

When htc was produced good handsets I loved them and always bought htc but unfortunately I then discovered Samsung .
I have a note 2 which is awesome . Battery is fantastic and the screen is excellent but I've seen a few reviews on you tube for the htc one and am so tempted but I don't know if it will be a bad decision.
Will the one hand anything my note 2 won't ?
I love the 5.5" display on my note but am ok about going down 0.8" as we all know size isn't important
I can get £250 recycle for my note 2 which means I lose just over the same amount as ive had my note 2 since launch. I can get a payg on three for £475 and the launch models are usually unlocked and unbranded or £520 off amazon but don't know if it's with the extra dosh.
Oh help me please my wife thinks I'm daft wanting the latest thing but the htc one looks awesome I just don't want to regret the decision if I get one
Thanks

I'm in the same boat as you and I'm strongly considering the One. But I'll wait for user experience first before deciding on getting one. I suggest you do the same since all the questions we have about the device will be answered then. If battery life is acceptable and there's no problems with the device I'll get it for sure. It's definitely the sexiest phone I have ever seen

My wife is lucky lol my only vice is technology I love samsung but hate the way they push out updates . I am debating the note 3 but it will be too big and the s4 is made of plastic.
I might wait for a month or so to see what the htc one is like in the flesh but want it now cos its so god damn sexy.
Oh what do I do . Im hoping my local p4u store has a display so I can look at it and then decide. The only thing stopping me is the fear of a poor battery like the one x and one x plus
I usually buy straight away but my little gremlins are telling me to wait a while

Its at least about 4 other threads with Note 2 users..
im a note 2 users as well and im bored and want the latest and greatest.. but i suggest just wait to see what Samsung announces next week.
HTC done the same thing last year and Samsung ended up topping them. so we would have to see what happens this time, its just best to wait for a few more days.. you'll still have time to sell your note 2 regardless since the HTC One doesn't release till the 22nd people are saying.
im getting the HTC One but i am not selling my Note 2 for it.. not worth it.. no matter how old it is.. might consider selling it for the Galaxy S4 or Note 3
I'm in the same position. I could hold on to my Note 2 and get the One on upgrade in a couple of months, sell the note 2 for about €450 and cover the extra €150 to buy the one on release then save my upgrade for later.
Regarding the Samsung updates, my girlfriends Vodafone branded SGS3 updated to JB ages ago. I got sick of waiting for my Vodafone branded one x to update to JB so I just sold it.

My last phone was a note 2 and I sold it in order to get the xperia z initially but now I am getting the One.
Btw mancuk29, why not sell your note 2 instead of recycling. You can get more than 250 for selling it.
The Note II is practically flawless, so don't jump for the One's looks and HW just yet, wait for the first few weeks of user feedback to see it's issues. I'd only switch for practical reasons say you want a smaller phone, don't care about the sylus, plastic is falling apart etc., but do not jump for style over substance reasons, make sure you'd be better off with the One and the investment it worth it. There are few perfect devices on the market, the Note II is one of them.

I had thought of selling it , they are going for around £350 on ebay but then there is 15% ebay fee to consider and then 10% paypal which works out at £87.50 so I would make £12 more . Im lining ebays and paypals pockets .
I might hold off till june / july so any issues are sorted or any complaints come out .
The problem is that if I see the one ill buy it so need to steer clear of phone shops for a few months !!!

I only use gumtree to sell products, as I heard about ebays selling fees. I fetched 390 for my note 2 on February 1st.
Might put it on gumtree . The only thing which is slowing down my impulses is the battery as I've been spoilt with the note 2 and get a day and bit out of my note 2
Why can't htc put a bigger battery in then it would be decision made grrrr

I 'm sure after getting hands on real device you love it more than N2 and P4u update their recent review in which they mention that battery life is really good but I personally think N2' battery life is bit better but more or less H one's bettery life will not be disappointing, you have to compare and choose between three major factor large vs 4.7 screen , plastic vs metallic body, standard audio/video vs better audio/video shooting

Guys, i agree the htc one is very beautiful, all metal and all, but seriously how many of us carry their mobiles without a case/cover? If i were u, and the size and weight of note 2 were not an issue for me, i dont think i would have let go of the n2 for one. N2 screen does look amazing. For me its just too big.
I love the one, specially the looks, but i guess i will keep my hox for atleast a few months, till proper user feedbacks and comparisons with hox are available. Again, i have kept my hox protected in a cover since day one, and it has helped tremendously in surviving a few falls.

I wish I bought all my phones from you (the OP). £250 for a Note 2 is a bargain.
I personally think you'll be in for a shock when you see how much smaller the screen is. I think the drop in battery life will put you off too.
But at the rate you buy phones it's not a problem I suppose. If you decide you don't like it you can always upgrade to the Note 3 when it's out.

Dual amplified front facing speakers
BlinkFeed to view news and social sources on the lock screen
A more premium feeling device made from metal vs. plastic
A faster SoC/GPU
An IR port to control your media devices
Sense which has a more modern and integrated "feel" than TW
You'll lose:
S Note, S Pen, airview, multiview
A 5.5" SAMOLED (more vivid colors, better outdoor visibility, blacks=black) display and return to a 4.7" display that was last year's standard
Some app compatibility until developers modify their programs to support 1080P displays
All the non-S Pen related TW features like motion and voice controls and Smart Stay/Rotation
A huge swappable battery
Cheap expandable and swappable storage up to 80GB
The ability to update to the latest official ROMs using Odin without voiding your warranty
Wireless charging (if you're even using it)
AVRCP 1.3 to show title/track/artist when using A2DP and possibly the ability to direct dial calls via BT (you still couldn't in Sense 4+)
For people that bought the N2 without planning to use its expanded features it was probably not the greatest choice in the first place. I replaced my Teg3 One X with it solely for those additional features. Otherwise, a 5.5" phone is a pain in the ass to use. If people bought it for the larger display then, unless they've changed their mind, the One and SGS4 aren't really equivalent. Since you didn't mention features and did mention you don't care about a smaller display than any of the "newer and shinier" devices coming out will fit the bill. And at 12" away you won't notice the difference between 1080P and 720P because the human eye with 20/20 vision can't resolve the additional detail at that distance and beyond no matter how much everyone swears they see a difference.

Very true. I had a look at the Sony Xperia Z in a shop and could not tell the difference in sharpness between it and any other 720p phone in the shop. My eye sight is very good too.
I think the One is the Most promissing htc phone ever.... I just Sold my Note 2 a week ago And now im Using an oooold Nokia Till my One is shipping .... I Love Sense

E4GLTE Guys....what sold you on the S4?

I'm still on the fence on picking this or the HTC One. So what was the selling point of the S4 to you that made you leave your HTC device behind? I seem to change my mind once a day. I had both phones at one point in my cart ready to pull the trigger but just can't decide.
I had the HTC One, got it on release, I returned it and got the SGS4 and am sooooo glad I did. I don't know if I had a dud or what but I wasn't getting strong LTE Signals with the One that I had with my SGS3, got the 4 and I have ZERO issues! Also, the no removable battery and no sd slot really bothered me with The One.
I'm coming from the 3vo and after 4 HTC devices in a row, it was time to make the switch to a phone which will get timely OS and "fix" updates as well as immediate source code drops.....something HTC has never done. I also wanted removable storage and battery.

You too man! I'll have mine shortly after you. I'm gonna hold off just a bit til a better price appears somewhere. Whether it be Best Buy, radio Shack, Amazon, or even Sprint itself.....someone will have will have it for $199 before June. Seeing some great devs posting in here. Thinking the dev community here as well as the phone itself will be phenomenal.
I was on the fence for a while as well. It seems like to me the most important difference is the speaker on the One. Either way both phones are amazing. I don't think there is a wrong choice.
I came from an EVO 4G LTE. I really wanted to get the One when it was first announced, but when I played with one in the store, it felt too similar to my EVO (size, screen size).
I've never had a non-HTC Android device and thought it would be refreshing to try Samsung out for the next year or so.

I don't think the HTC is amazing. Too many sacrifices made for the aluminum. Such as weight, size, slimness, and lack of 5" screen even though it's the larger phone. It might find a small niche group of fans but it's not as premium as the iphone so you're getting the best of nothing.
Been a long time HTC person (started with my mogul), but my EVO LTE wouldn't get 4G at my house while other phones did.
Got the S4 and now I have 4G at home.
As you can tell I have an HTC one. I have had all HTC phones for as long as I can remember, well except for the Palm Pre. I have a Samsung Note 10.1 that I would never give up, I say that because I am not brand loyal.
Here is my take original Evo great phone Samsung couldn't touch it. Evo 3d underwhelming to me probably could have gone with Samsung whatever it was that year and been happier. Evo LTE vs S3 chose the evo for no real reason other than well all my other phones were HTC.
Now HTC one vs S4. Screen size 4.7 vs 5 to me no real difference. OLED vs lcd to my eyes Lcd just looks more realistic. I am an avid photographer and I can't stand the OLED colors. I know this can be adjusted to some degree but I still prefer Lcd. Cameras as I said I am a photographer and if there is a chance I am going to take a picture I will have a real camera with me. For the occasional Facebook photo or kid photo either does fine. Build quality polycarbonate vs aluminum, I think the aluminum looks nicer. I don't put cases on my phones so the way it looks is the way it looks.
Functionally the s4 has a lot of cool gimmicks but none of which to me have practical application. Software I will be rooting and installing custom roms on either device so it is not that important.
I chose the one purely on look and feel in my hand. I think either one is really a great phone and you can't go wrong with either.

I think this was said just about perfectly. I am in the same situation as you. I have been with HTC since the windows mobile vogue (touch) and have had all the evo's starting with the original. My only brief time without an htc android device was the samsung moment. That experience alone weighed heavily on whether I would ever buy another samsung product. It was complete garbage.
I debated hard on which to choose between the One and the S4. I currently use the evo 4g lte but decided to go with the s4 this time. I like how light the s3 is compared to the evo. I wear a suit to work most days and refuse to use a holster. The Evo lte seems a bit heavy. I love the look and feel of the One but will end up putting it in a case so that makes it almost moot.
A few other deciding factors were the sd card, removable battery and (believe it or not) the location of the power button. That always bothered me with htc phones. I'm still waiting for my costco preordered s4 to arrive. I'm expecting to thoroughly enjoy it but if I don't, I'll exchange it for the One.
We'll see.
I came from an htc evo and evo 3d. So I partially just wanted to try something new but here are the other reasons that I chose the S4:
Removable battery(I usually have a phone for 2 years and I had to replace the battery in my evo 3d after about a year and a half)
Fast wall charger
GG3(never use screen protectors and have never had a scratch on any of my phones)
Larger Battery

I currently have a EvoLTE but after playing with both the One and S4 I decided on the S4. Plus before the S4 even came out in the states it already had a great selection of cases which in my opinion the EvoLTE never had.

I am also a deserter of HTC after 10 years if dedication and countless phones I am jumping ship due to the inability for HTC to ever release a single source code NOR ever a timely update. I am hoping my decision to switch will be concrete before the 14 day return period. Currently I am in a battle with sprint over their 90 day sim unlock policy that I feel is unfair to consumers. The biggest reason I left is due to the lack of a removable battery and no micro sd expansion on the one.

I was in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area yesterday and picked mine up at the local store. When I called on a whim expecting them to say it was not available in the stores for another couple weeks boy was I surprised when they told me they had both the white and black in stock. Any who's that's how I got my black mist one.
Well, I decided to go with the HTC One. It came down to price ([email protected] plus $20 gift card) and a few other things but most importantly price. I won't wish this forum good bye yet since I have 14 days to see if I regret my decision, if not I wish you guys the best and although we're not phone brothers we an be Android cousins at the very least.
For those that have a problem with OLED colors being over saturated, you can set the screen to movie mode to dial it down a little. I forgot where I read the article, but if you Google it you might be able to find it. A display firm compared the S4 to the iPhone 5 and said that in movie mode, the color representation was on part with the iPhone.

I went to my sprint store to get the phone. The sales rep apparently REALLY needed to sell some accessories so he dropped the price of the phone to $199 and sold me the charger and extra battery for my wife's note 2 for $50.
Apparently the reps at corporate stores have the ability to lower the price if they really want to.
I've been using HTC phones for almost 10 years, started with Windows Mobile phones. Sadly I think HTC has lost their way a little bit.
No removable battery, no SD card, and this version of Sense is a trainwreck. I loved my Evo LTE but the battery was a killer just couldn't make it work.
I'm adjusting to Samsung, so far I love the ability to easily root. The hardware is nice but not as polished as the HTC phones. Basically I chose the SUV over the sports car this time.

+1. I chose the S4 because HTC is going the "IPhone" route as I call it with the non removable battery and no sd card. I am adjusting to the Samsung phone as well but so far so good and the battery is INSANE! I watched a 30 minute video on YouTube and lost 2% on the battery.

Should I buy nexus 4 ?

Hello ,
I am thinking of buying the nexus 4 . I love the nexus devices , i have nexus s and 7 .
I don't know if it worths buying it or i should wait till the next model come out .
Is there any other device in production that is better ?
Please let me know your opinion .
The phone is low cost and amazingly fast. Go for it. I got mine from a guy at work for $100 and I love it. It never lags or slows down at all. You won't be disappointed.

You can wait for the next nexus, but also keep in mind that it will be sold out very quickly , and you'll have to wait again.. I'd say you won't get your hands on one before dec/jan . so you do the math.

Every time I see this question asked, I simply post this quote. If you're thinking about buying it, then buy it. It's worth it.

The main pros of the Nexus 4 that I keep listing anytime I tell people about it are the following:
1. Price. $350 is pretty much half the price of any other competitor to the Nexus 4
2. Pure Android, updated directly from Google. As soon as a new version of Android is released, it's on the Nexus. Google develops Android FOR this device.
3. Design. Glass front and back, it's a solid phone. Looks sleek.
Now, newly-released phones do have slightly better hardware. But we're getting to the point of diminishing returns. We're packing so much hardware into these devices, you'll hard-pressed to find software that actually makes use of it. I think the only debate you should be having is buy the Nexus 4 now, or wait until the next Nexus comes out, possible during the holidays. That isn't to say this phone won't still be a solid phone then, but I can understand if some people wait to buy updated versions.
To answer your question: yes. It is definitely worth it. At $350, it's fiscally irresponsible NOT to buy a Nexus 4. Right now I'm paying $30/mo for a tablet plan on AT&T with 3gb of data. Having weird and crazy options like that don't seem to happen with other phones. I feel like the Nexus 4 is YOUR phone, not 80% your phone, 20% the manufacturer's.
Spoiler alert: I might be a little biased, but c'mon. It's a sweet phone.

I'd wait for the new Motorola phone, if everything is just a buzz, I'd def get the N4..
Get it if you need a disposable phone. Otherwise save for something good.
And don't buy an N4 while travelling (as I did) because chances are you'll need to RMA it and dealing with LG directly is not fun.

Speaking of the S4, Last week I was at the mall, at one of those Zagg Kiosk cuz I was going to get an Invisible Shield put on my Nexus 7, but I declined, but he was showing off his Galaxy S4, which seemed pretty nice. Bout 3 days ago, I stopped back by to get the invisible shield put on my Nexus 4 (I could do it myself, but they do a pretty good job getting it on).
After he was done, I inquired about the S4, seeing as I was deciding between a Nexus 4 and something like that. And he mentioned he no longer had his new S4, it was having too many problems and was buggy so he took it back and got an iPhone 5 (eww in my opinion but... interesting that he only had the S4 for a week and decided to take it bag for being buggy and unresponsive).
He did mention he would have gotten an Nexus 4, but he wanted to have something that day, and outside of T-Mobile (which he doesn't use), the carriers did not carry them (otherwise you'd have to order online).

It's an extremely thin, extremely durable screen protector that supposed to be pretty much invisible. I've used it on my old iPod Touch, and had it on my Desire-Z for over a year and a half without any problems, and I'm currently using their HD version on my Nexus 4 which retains a glass-like surface and actually seems to improve the color/clarity on the screen.
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/index.php
It can be a chore to apply, so I usually have the kiosk in the malls apply them for me (But they can cost upward to 15$ more than you could order them online just for them to do it). Though I had a more expensive "Write Right" brand protector on there that the t-mobile store put on, and it wasn't even close in quality to the invisible shield (so I took it back to the t-mobile store for a refund, and got the invisible shield instead).

Course bear in mind that my opinion is of course going to be bias'd by the fact that I actually have one . I own both a Nexus 7 and a Nexus 4, my mom owns a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0" which she's content with (she likes the Nexus 7, but wanted a front side camera).
I mainly got the Nexus 4 because for a fully unlocked phone it was inexpensive (plus T-Mobile allowed me to get it at 17/month for 24 month, rather than paying up front for it, so I see it as paying a 60$ interest on a loan that I just pay off each month).
Also like the Nexus 7, the N4 is nearly impossible to brick, easy to unlock, easy to root, comes with a clean AOSP rom already which also has a strong developer community, and because I'm planning on writing android apps down the road I figured what better choice of a phone.
Also The nexus 4, like the Nexus 7 will most likely continue to get android updates to the latest version for the next 2 maybe 3 years since it's made by google (as I recall even the original Nexus One can still officially get Jellybean on it straight from Google). So being able to use the device with the newest android update for the next few years without having to wait on the manufacture to decide if they will was also a plus for me as a developer-oriented buyer.
(HTC kind of burned me on that last bit with my Desire-Z, since the DesireHD was supposed to get 4.0.4/ICS but last minute they pulled it from the list of devices that was getting it, but least quallacom came thru and thus why we have so many jellybean roms for the desire-Z now).
The main two things I would want from the samsung side would be
1) Removable/extendable battery
2) microSD slot.
The one thing I don't like on the samsung... propriety USB/Power cable, why can't they just use microUSB or miniUSB like everyone else... but then again they do tend to mimic Apple to some degree.
#2 isn't as big a deal for the Nexus7 because I can just plug a thumbdrive into it via a USB-OTG cable, if for some reason I needed to copy something or perhaps play a large movie off the thumbdrive). Also the TWRP recovery natively supports USB-OTG so when I do a backup or restore, it can do it directly to/from a thumbdrive, without having to fill space on the device. Nexus 4 can do USB-OTG too, but requires a Y-split cable so you can plug up a portable power pack, since it won't provide power out of it's USB port like the Nexus7 will
I like all the advantages of the nexus devices . I am also starting to develop apps  see at the signature.
I have an incline on nexus 4 , but I must learn when the next one will be released .
Thanks man your answer is of great use for me ,:victory:

Would you still buy the N4 today?

Hi, i'm an Atrix owner, and my dad's phone just died, so i thought that i could buy a new phone for me and give my atrix to him. It will have more than he can use anyway.
So, i'm trying to go with the best for under $300 (unlocked). I suffered the Motorola's lack of updates with my Milestone and this Atrix, so i want a futureproof device (balanced with the price). So my first thought of course is the Nexus. If it gets 5.0 i'll be happy for another year i guess.
But i don't know what's in the market right now, so maybe i'm missing another good device for the price, or maybe the Nexus 4 is not as good as it looks. So that's why i'm asking what the title says.
Would you still buy the Nexus 4?
Thank you.

I gave my old lady my old Atrix and grabbed the Nexus.
Now I'm trying to talk her in to getting one.
The price now @ $249 to performance ratio can't be beat considering you own the phone out right, no contract crap.
Get updates on day 1 release, it will get 5.0
The camera is decent enough I find...after all it's a phone.
If you don't care about the lack of a SD card and a non removable battery. Then it's def worth it
After the Atrix you'd be very happy with it.
I'd get a case for it the as it's an extremely slippery phone though.
If you're on a budget and looking for unlocked and properly priced, then yes, it's perfect. You don't get 4G LTE out of the box, and you only get it with fixes and always changing the settings back. If not having 4G LTE is fine, then yes, it's your best bet. MetroPCS and Boost are selling the SIII for $400 still. You still get a year warranty of course when you buy it from Google.
Only if I didn't already own one. Why?
1. Price/performance ratio is insane
2. Dev support is lively
3. LTE on Tmobile
4. No contract
5. Storage fits my music collection
6. Dat back
so seems buying n4 still worth it if you just want to use it for a decent purpose only, am I right ? I'm not a type of person who loves to rooted or change kernel to phone.
I did 3 days ago and its flying
I got mine the other day. Coming from a GS3, I am more then happy with the N4. Will I get an N5 when it comes up, most likely but depending on the price maybe not as soon as it is released.
My wife picked up a HTC One. Spec wise and quality build that is on the HTC One is top of the line right now but I would not take one over the N4. There is just something special about a Nexus device and it runs fantastic.
Looking at this thread i am going to say a big YES http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/nex...y-google-play-store-1642317?page=104#comments
Yep. Just bought another N4 (to replace a stolen N4) and it has been a good idea
Its the best. No doubt about it. Just go for it. I'd buy it again if I have to. Best performance with such specs at this price. Just brilliant.
I did. Am selling my Xperia Z for profit, and got an Nexus 4 for £159. Much prefer the look, feel and performance over the Sony. Love it.
For some stupid reason, it still costs Rs. 24,990 ($ 379) in india (flipkart.com). Were it not for this silly pricing, i would have bought it a long time back.

Yes, I would for sure.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I would but just because of the value. For $200-$300 you get a great unlocked phone. It isn't the best phone but it definitely is for the price range. It definitely does have it quirks though. For one I hate the fact that I am limited to 16gb of storage as there is no SD Card slot. Google however has great cloud based apps so you really don't need 64gb. For me, I have 30+ GB of music and its all on the cloud with Google play. Even when your offline you still have access you your music though because the app very conveniently caches songs periodically to keep some stored locally (I have about 2gb local). The screen is not full 1080p which is becoming the norm now and not to forget the phone has horrible color calibration, which can be fixes with a custom kernel. The phones battery life also isn't the greatest... As a pretty heavy user I probably would have to charge it at least once throughout the day. The camera also is pretty crappy and so is the speaker.
Bottom line. The phone is definitely worth every cent but it does have its issue. There are plenty of phones better than it but they're all $600+ phones. So yes even today, I would say to Stoll get it for the value
I definently would,
given there has just been a price drop of 100$ on both versions!
Now there is really no way to beat the price.
Take the 8 gb version for example and look at other models in the same price range.
You see things like the Samsung Young, which really are no match at all for the Nexus 4!
Try and name 1 device for under 400$ that is better, I think you will have a hard time.
And now the Nexus is only half of that!
I just ordered mine last week when the price dropped. I have been using the Galaxy Nexus for the last year and will likely never purchase another non-Nexus device ever again.
For me, it was all about value. As others have mentioned - it is pretty hard to beat the current 199/249 price point that these are available at right now. I had originally planned on holding off until the N5 was released but simply couldn't pass up this deal.
Now just anxiously waiting for it to arrive!
I just did - a few days ago. I was never happier. :cyclops:

I definently would,
given there has just been a price drop of 100$ on both versions!
Now there is really no way to beat the price.

hell yes. And here in Europe is not just a 100$ drop, its a 100€. Finally the 1€-1$ thing is on our side
I would die to the damn price.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
i would go as far as to say that I even would not be able to recommend any other phone after the price dropped last week
