Audio output via micro USB to car stereo? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This might be more of a general android question but I just came from an iPhone 5. My car stereo has a USB port and when I plugged in the lightning cable, my spotify would output audio to the stereo. This is NOT mounting a storage drive and having the stereo read it, to clarify.
Is there a way I can do that on android? My car also has aux which I've been using in the meantime but I like controlling the music with the stereo's remote.

Hopeful bump.

From experience I have with Android phones, no. Most car stereos do not have the proper drivers to read the Android phone and be able to output music. For example, in my Chrysler 300, the screen would say "USB Device Not Recognized" but it would still charge the phone, albeit very slowly. Bluetooth is your best option if your stereo comes equipped with it.

USB Front Port On Car Headunit compatible with Nexus S?

I was at the car stereo place and found nearly every headunit with a USB port in the front saying that it is compatible with an iPod or iPhone. Question is, have any of you guys tried hooking it up to a Android device? Does it charge? Will it fry my cellphone? I'm leaning towards a Kenwood headunit but just wondering if there are any precautions. Thank you

You should be fine. I doubt it would damage the phone as most smart phones have similar power requirements/charging methods these days. The iPhone's cables are just normal USB cables with a special plug on one end and an Apple logo so they can charge more. Most things labelled "For iPhone/iPod" work just fine on Android devices.
Anyone with a USB port on their headunit using a Android phone?
My Honda has a USB port for the stereo. It does not allow the me to use the phone to control audio through USB as this is not supported like it is on iPod (same with any Android phone, has nothing to do with Nexus S in particular) but it does work in Mass Storage Mode and allows me to control audio through the head unit.
All of this is moot anyway as the best solution is to use a car mount and connect through the 3.5m stereo out to the AUX input. I can then not only use Last.fm and Navigation sounds through the stereo, but also phone call audio gets passed through. It's pretty much awesome and makes me glad I did not spend the extra $1200 on the in dash GPS/touchscreen head unit with bluetooth.

Any apps to read phone as storage in car?

All my music is on my phone. I don't have an aux cable to plug into my car. I have a USB port in my car but when I plug it up, it doesn't read my SD. Anyone know of any apps that they have tried that have worked?

Audio out through USB?

Is it possible in any way to play music through the usb-cable? I have a carstereo with usb in. When I connect an iPhone it plays all the system audio through the car stereo. When I connect my S4 it browses the card for music files. It seems like I can play music that is stored on the phone, but I never do that. I play music from Spotify, Google Play Music and other streaming services, so I need an aux cable in addition. Not very elegant.
Is there any way to send the system audio through usb? There is a dock-option in settings, but it doesn't seem to do anything...
+1
I completely misunderstod the question duh!
Nope. Not possible To stream Spotify on USB because songs are Not properly stored on device. Best way is bluetooth or AUX.

I have an iBolt xProDock in my car, which both charges the phone and sends audio out through the phone's microusb connector. When docked, all audio is routed through the car stereo (you have to tick the checkbox under settings/my device/accessory etc).
The only issue in your case would be that the other end of the xProDock audio cable it has a standard 3.5mm plug instead of USB. If your car has AUX input, you could plug this straight in and get all audio from the phone through your car stereo.

It does have AUX as well as USB so this would work fine. I don't need the mount though, is it possible to buy just a cable like this anywere? Microusb in one end and usb/aux at the other?

Basically the cable has been made to so that when it is plugged in, the phone recognises it as a desktop dock. Thus it is a bit more than just a cable with microusb at one end and usb/aux at the other. (If you are interested in making your own cable, may want to do a search on the resistances between the usb pins that Samsung uses to identify different products plugging into the microusb).
Anyway, I haven't come across anywhere that sells just the iBolt type of cable, but to be fair I haven't really looked/enquired. You could contact iBolt and ask if they'll sell the cable, say as a replacement etc.
EDIT: never mind
I think ibolt do sell the cable separately, check the ibolt thread in the Note2 accessories forum.

Just came across this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2350690 in the S4 Accessories forum. So yes, the cable is available separately.

Samsung Galaxy S 4 USB Music

So I made the mistake of purchasing a stereo head unit for my car that did not have an AUX port so I am trying to find a way to play music through my USB port to the external USB port on the stereo. When I plug my phone in it charges but won't be read by the stereo as a flash drive/external device. I use to have an application that I would have to turn on and off but after a while my phone decided it didn't like that app. Does anyone know a way to make it natively go into USB mode, no a debug mode but a mode that would allow it to have at least the SD card read

Route Audio Through USB-C Port Instead of Headphone Jack

My LG V20 has USB-C and so does my LG monitor. I plugged my phone into my monitor and it displayed the screen and charged the phone. Then I plugged a USB mouse and keyboard into the other USB ports on the monitor and they both connected to the V20. So when I'm home I can use my V20 just like a computer with one USB-C cable.
Is there any way I can route the audio out the USB-C port instead of the headphone jack? So the sound would go to my monitor. My speakers are hooked up to the audio jack on my monitor.

Cool. What model monitor is it?

in developer option there is an option to route all audio through usb...about half way down the developer menu
i use this when i connect my gaming headset with an otg adapter, hyper x clouds with full 7.1 emulation, it is amazing.
hopefully there are no issues using that setting with video out, usb type c (usb 3.1) should have the bandwidth

My bad for the late reply. My app didn't show that anyone responded. I went into the developer settings and changed Select USB Configuration to Audio Source. It didn't work. All the audio still routes through either the headphone jack or the internal speaker. There could be an issue with the simultaneous output of video and sound. I messed with my monitor and didn't see any USB-C audio settings.

I wonder if my USB-C cable only carries data and video but not sound.
