So, my AT&T G2 is now rooted, but there appears to be a tether check in place. When I try to tether using either Estrong File explorer or Elixer 2, nothing happens.
Has anyone figured out what value we need to hex edit on this phone? Is it the same as the Optimus G Pro?
Please post back if you figure this out, I'm on vacation now but I need to teather daily once I get back.
Im assuming that nobody have come up with a solution to the ATT model..I havent found one yet
Have you tried the EasyTether app?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
no i havent but i will give it a try....Are you on the ATT model? Im baffled at the fact that this havent been nailed down already...Uh easy tether app is a expensive try not knowing if it would work..wow

You cannot tether without root access if you havent purchased the hotspot package through verizon

Ok how do I root is there an easy way? When I had the capttivate I flashed the rom and rooted but I had help lol
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
You can tether without root using pdanet(available in the market). It doesn't, however, work as good as wireless tether.
Rooting is extremely easy though and it's hard to mess your phone up doing it.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
You can tether wirelessly without root by turning on 3g hotspot and toggling airplane mode on and off.

I have been trying to get mobile hotspot to work on 1.83 to much disappointment. I have it rooted, I tried gladenabler, and I have even installed gingerblur as last rom it removed the verification altogether.
This time it is just not going away. I have also selected =false using root explorer for that one value that was listed in a previous post.
I am not on att I'm in another country with no tethering restrictions.
Any help would make me very grateful.
Thanks in advance.

Can't edit from my phone but in an update to what I wrote earlier. Editing the build.prop file actually worked but required a reboot.
In retrospect I should have thought of that but it wasn't listed in the op.
So, if you are also getting this problem
Follow the directions on this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057665
Then REBOOT AFTER.
Should be golden.

On your APN type just add tether after default. So your APN type looks like this APN type: default, tether
Mine works...I live in Malaysia

Wifi-Tether Android
Just use http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Once you rooted and enabled side-loading install Wifi-Tether android , that works for me
I actually have an employee plan so 40 for unlimited and tethering but if you add the apn u can also use barnicle wifi tether. U can't find it on the market (anymore/F-u too att) you'll have to Google but it is better than using my included option in network settings. I have also used the open one on code.Google.com and has been great. I love my atrix and webtop and lapdock but if I had a chance at getting it all on tmo or sprint, I'd jump ship. Making Google hide apps from it's own users? Wtf? If I were sprint I'd be praying att buys tmo because everyone would run to sprint. If I didn't have said plan, I'm not sure I could take the abuse they give their high paying customers.

I'm sorry, new to this, but what's wrong with using an app like 'barnacle wifi tether' to create a mobile hotspot?

You could also take the SIM out (or put the phone in airplane mode) and search via Wifi to find a tethering app on the market...

Sideload Barnacle or download PDANet
yea I use an unlocked AT&T atrix on Rogers and couldn't get the hot spot to work either. Just downloaded the android wifi tether from the market and it works fine. No need for the built in one.
I've seen a little about this - but couldn't find the answer.
Sorry if I'm repeating on someone else's thread.
I've got a Rooted (EC07) Continuum right now & just came from a Droid 1 (which I loved).
I can't find a way to remove the 3G Mobile Hotspot app from Verizon.
On my D1, I previously used Wireless Tether 2 & it was so awesome.
No when I open up the 3G otspot, it takes the device that is hooking up to my hotspot to a Verizon web page that requests a subscription.
I just want to use it free again, like on my D1.
Any suggestions on how I could do this?
I have already tried downloading other Wireless Teher apps apps & none of them seems to work properly.
Thanks.
I suppose you could remove the app with an explorer or Titanium Backup. I doubt it would get rid of it in the settings menu. I use open garden, and it works fine (assuming you aren't trying to connect with something that can't use ad-hoc)

Why not you guys check out wireless tether beta 7 or whatever they are onto now, and go to settings, and set it as a fascinate xD then you can actually use it as a regular network, not adhoc xP
Also, I think 3g hotspot is a part of settings.apk if I remember correctly xP so you can't really get rid of it :l

thats funny... I googled wireless tether beta7, and this post is the first hit that comes up...
here is the site for it.

The app is built into the framework of the ROM I believe, or is tied into another piece of the ROM that can't be removed. The only way to really "remove" it is to use a launcher that allows you to hide app icons and just remove it from view.
Barnacle wi fi tether works

Thanks guys.
I appreciate the info. Just got wifi tether 6.
Also you can "freeze" 3g hotspot, and anything else that's annoying you, using "Bloat Freezer", found in the market for $1.99. Or with Titanium Backup Pro (paid version) which is worth its weight in gold anyway.
that literaly does nothing except prevent the app from running and the app dosnt run in the background when your not using it. the bloat freezer is ment for apps using gps and updating weather that drains your battery.
I just got the lg g2 im on Verizon and have put the full root on it only to find out that sadly that it wont run any Wifi teathering apps even for rooted users. I have searched the forums and have found no soultion for this. I did find the hotspot provisions overide and was sure that would be a fix but couldnt get that to take. This phone is usless to me if i cannot wifi teather with it. Does ananyone know a way around this?

I'm having the same issue. I've read where Scott's CleanROM has working wifi tether, but I haven't tried it yet. If you give it a go, let me know if it works for you.

Can confirm. Running CleanROM on ATT and it wifi/bluetooth tethering works great.
Can any post a link to this rom?

I used ADB to push the hotspot provision and it worked on my VZW G2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456338&page=3 - about half way down he lists all the lines to enter.
(on vzw) I wifi tethered 24/7 with CleanRom until I switched to CM and continue to wifi tether 24/7. No issues whatsoever.

It is awesome, I have not had any problems. It retains all the stock features like knock on without much bloat, which is the only reason I don't switch to CM or AOKP. A++++ Would recommend.

I use TWRP, but you could also install it using Clockwork. You will need to get the carrier-specific ROM for your version of the G2.
I just switched from Sprint a couple weeks ago, where I also had an LG G2, to T-Mobile. I'm still loving this phone - enough that I couldn't justify giving it up to try the Nexus 5.
Anyway, one thing I liked about the G2 on Sprint was a Connection Optimizer (I think it was called). You know when you go to a public wifi and have to pull up a website and agree to their notice before you can use the connection? This handy little tool did that automatically for you on wifi networks you've previously connected to. I LOVED it. With the exception of Tom Thumb, it worked flawlessly for me everywhere I went.
Well I'm not seeing or finding that on the T-Mobile G2. Am I just missing it? Is it possible to install it or is it just a Sprint thing?
I'm not rooted yet and don't plan to be any time soon.
If someone can extract an apk you should be able to install it even if you're not rooted. I'm also interested in this as well

I'll see if I can extract the app. I'll download the sprint kdz and see if i can find it and I'll extract it here in a bit

Looks like it's a no go because i was looking more into it and it looks like it's an embedded feature on sprint devices
although you can give WiFi Web Login a try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.uk.syslynx.wifiwebloginapp
it says it does exactly the same
Thanks for looking into it, I appreciate it. I'll check out that app.
