[Q] QuickSettings app killed my screen

OK, so my screen isn't actually `dead`, but i accidentally used it and set my brightness to 0, now the screen is 100% black and I'm not sure how to fix this.
any ideas that don't involve getting a new data.img?

No Guarantee's it will work, you could try replacing just the system.ext file since that contains your system data. it's worked for me on occasions. tho it will restore the default kernel module's, etc (if you have changed them)
worth a shot

i encountered this before and i remembered the position of the widget brightness
so i imagined the screens, pretending to do each 1 by 1
unlock screen
navigate to the widget
imagine pressing the widget
scrolling the bar
and wahlah, i got my screen brightness again
i flashed Hastarin kernel, which didnt allow me to get into this situation as 0% brightness still alllowed me to see something with it
if you dont have a brightness widget , u're probably going to have a hard time finding it in the Settings > Display > Brightness >

Thanks for the reply guys, I tried kam333's suggestion and it didn't work (thanks anyways); then moved on to jcsy's suggestion, I don't have a brightness widget, but I am totally boss, and just wen through each step in my head and viola!

Infrared glasses. That'll do it. Or night vision goggles.
Sometimes you can shine a light behind it and see through it, but try the night vision goggles.
If you don't have them, google the goggles.

How to decrease minimum backlight level?

Is there a way to decrease the minimum back-light level on a CM7 ROM?
I always prefer to keep back-light level as low as possible and not using automatic setting for it.
Recently I've tried one of the MIUI roms and noticed that the lowest back-light level on it is way dimmer that on CM7 ROMs. It allowed me to noticeably save on battery.
So is there any way to do it on CM7 based ROMs?

Tried and tested with typhoon rom. After usind this lib the cm7 autobacklight level should woork correctly..but therefore some LED Notification will behave a bit strange...you will be able to life with that. (=

not 100% as I use a CM mod (AMA), but check Settings / CM Settings / Display/ Automatic Brightness / Edit Other Levels

OK. I've tried it and saw absolutely no difference in minimum backlight level.
When I move the backlight level slider all the way down it is still on the same level
as with older libs. And it did break notification lights.
As I've mentioned before I am not using autobacklight at all. I just want to have manual backlight level go much lower.

There is a free app in the Android Market that will do just what you want. It's called Screen Filter. Using this app, you can set your backlight level very low, and even put a widget pre-set to your preferred brightness level on one of your homescreens.

that's how it looks on my device - the min brightness can be set to 1 which is very dark

This app is a fake. It does not decrease backlight level, but instead dims lcd pixels, which is not the same. Hence no power saving benefits. It would only help with OLED screens.

that's how it comes with AMA, which is based on CM7.1, so it could be part of the original CM (have no way to check as I don't use NAND builds)

Ah..I see. That is SD build.
OK. Looks like CM7 autobacklight works if I replace lights libs now (loosing LED blinking though). I guess I'll try it out and see how it turns out.

One thing I've noticed that backlight level number is not very granular.
As there is no difference if I have it set to 1, 5, 10, 15 or 20. It only changes at 25

it might depend on the brightness ranges/thresholds - I've noticed in my build that if first two ranges are set as 0-100 and 100-200, the first one is ignored if upper limit is below 225, so I always get the screen brightness of the second range

I was looking for a dimmer lowest setting for the back light & tried Screen Filter BUT found it left the "black screen" well lit but everything else faded, almost like the colours were merging to gray rather than being dimmer.
Anyway, my need was for the clock display to be dim but found the Clock app's day/night mode button takes the clock display brightness right down low; lower than the manual screen brightness setting for sure... but only in the clock.
Hopefully any other noobs to Cyanogen / non-Sense ROMs may find this relevant! ;.)

[Screen Tune Settings] for Balanced Color and Saturation!

Possibly the largest complaint I have with the Galaxy S2 is the screen color balance.
Im guessing they did this for the wow pop factor that is so common when you're shopping for TVs. Yeah, looks cool when you first see it, but after a while, its bugs you. Well, it bugs me. The AMOLED screen has insane contrast ratio.
So after some mucking about, I got the color balance the best I could get on my phone while still keeping the contrast ratio the same. I avoided filter apps such as Screen Adjuster. Its not perfectly balanced, but Its Waaaay better from how it is stock. My settings may not work for you, but will give you a starting point to tune yourself.

1. Touchwiz Rom or AOSP like CM10.1/CM10.2 (Pretty much any ROM will work I think. I did this on CM10.1)

1. Go to "Settings"
2. Click "Advanced"
3. Go to "Screen" tab

5. Set the mDNIe Mode to "Natural"

8. Uncheck "LCD REDUCE POWER"
8. Set "Blue Color scale" to 132
9. Set "Red Color scale" to 132
10. Restart Phone
11. Profit?

How to: Touchwiz

3. Change the mDNIe Mode to "Natural". I don't know exactly how to get there; I haven't used a touchwiz ROM for over a year... I forgot. But its under Display... somewhere lol (if anyone can tell me how to get there, ill update the post)
4. Now open the "STweaks" app
5. Go to "Screen" tab
6. Uncheck "LCD REDUCE POWER"
7. Set "Blue Color scale" to 132
8. Set "Red Color scale" to 132
9. Check "mDNIe Sharpness Tweaks"
10. Restart Phone
11. Done.

Now the screen settings may not be perfect for everyone. But you can tune it using the color scale. The goal is to make the grays too look actually gray. Tune it so there is no shade of yellow, blue, green or red.
I tried to match the gray present in the Messaging app on CM10.1. Worked for me.

Will this work on Apollo Kernel 4.9? stweaks descriptions says it's for siyah kernel only? I'm running Neatrom lite.

EDIT:
Using the Screen Adjuster filter, install button on application installation panel doesn't work. Hence not recommended.

I use check. Lcd reduce, and set blue to 123 in stweaks.
Screen set to standard. Natural look awful

I havent tried that kernel. STweak works with any SII kernel that allows you to make some kernel tweaks. Its a frontend app.

I mentioned screen adjuster in my OP. Although it allows you do tune color somewhat, the major downside is that it decreases contrast and lights up black pixels. this can decrease battery life. But I agree, If you are staying away from Kernels, than it works okay.

Nice. I Tuned the screen as close I can get to my Nexus 7 (2013). The i9100's screen is way supersaturated. But, I understand, to each their own

So, settings from first post is tuned to look like an nexus 7. Colors seems to pale forme then !!? I will try to set my s2 according to my Optimus g.

Good post, but one problem with this is that although it fixes the greyscale, the whites still look awful at anything other than full brightness perhaps. There is still way too much green, and I suspect Samsung made it that way due to OLED degradation issues with the S2 having a RGB pixel layout.I managed to fix the whites by modifying the excellent Galactic Night app made by arpruss, however I had some SOD issues that I suspected had to do with the app so I gave up on it.

Here is my settings.. RR 5.5.2 rom. This setting is for cm12 based ROMs and looks great.

Well, many of us know that a report came out suggesting that 'blue light' emitting from screens of mobile phones, TVs, PCs etc is harmful to the eye and causes sleeping problems.
And then many apps started coming out which remove/filter the blue light from phone screens, such as Bluelight Filter, Dark Screen, Twilight etc.
These apps do what they say but :-
1) They don't do it perfectly
2) You have to manually disable them each time you install something or grant superuser access to an app
3) Few of them consume fair amount of battery
4) And some people may be annoyed by the fact that it always stays on the notification bar.
So here's another the way of removing the blue light without causing any of the above mentioned problems
The way is to change the kernel settings, rather the screen color settings by using kernel tweaking apps like Faux123, Trickster Mod etc which almost every custom kernel user has.
So open your kernel tweaking app and go to' Screen' settings or 'Screen Color' settings or whatever is there and just reduce the quantity of the blue color according to your preference
I have attached a screenshot of blue light being reduced using Trickster Mod app.

The screen becomes rather yellowish reducing the blue light

Which version of trickster mod did you use, i do not see anything related to screen settings in the version i have

Solved: High brightness mode getting disabled in Ex Kernel manager... on Frankenclark

I have flashed Frankenclark kernel then dled Ex kernel manager.
I don't know what to tweak in this kernel.
When i enable High brightness mode it enables but sometime after when i open it is Disabled... let me know if its not supported or i have to check something to get it permanently enabled.
Also i want to increase blue tint little bit but i am not getting proper settings in advanced color control.
Somebody please let me know how to use the settings and tweaks

It turns off when you turn off the screen. It's shouldn't be on all the time, it's way too bright. Check out the widget in my signature if you really want it to stay on all the time.

It got fixed now and is enabled and working even after reboot, i just ticked on right icon and reboot... loving it so much now and screen is looking more awesome and brighter than before and i don't even have to set it to 50%... its on 30% now and is way better than many other screens.
If i even increased it to 50% for movies and games it looks perfect awesome :good:
