If you are on stock ROM and want to get rid of the navigation bar then follow the instructions below.
1. Download Pie Control from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jun.ace.piecontrol
2. Setup Pie Control to how you want it (you can mimic the navigation bar layout)
3. Go to /system/ and open build.prop to edit
4. Add a line qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 at the very end
5. Save the file and reboot
Nova does the same but easier.

I thought Nova only did it for the home screen. Even if it does, I think only the Pro version would do it. This solution is free.
I don't even remember Nova launcher having that option.

Nova NON PRO (aka free) version gives you the option to remove the navigation bar on ALL screens.
Look under nova settings > desktop > persistent search bar (choose option).

I got the PRIME version (paid) and selecting persistent search bar to Never doesn't get rid of the navigation bars.

Hmm don't know what to tell you. I have the free Nova launcher and I don't see the google nav bar on ANY of my screens on my Nexus 7 2013.

You're right. It's nova settings > look and feel > show notification bar. But like you said it only does it if you're on the home screen or in the dock. Once you open anything else like an app or phone settings, the notification bar will appear. I have prime but i'm pretty sure it's still an option if you have the free version if i'm not mistaken.

Hello Status Bar.
Use a button to pull down the notification bar !!
Very handy with this BIG ASS screen.
Put it everywhere you want .....

Nice sharing but its not necessary to ''touch'' notification bar to pull it down.
If you ''touch'' anywhere in screen and scroll a little bit down, notification bar will be appear..

Thats why this app is so handy ...
Another option is Go Launcher Ex.
It enables you to configure gestures for the dock icons.
One of these options is to bring down the notification bar.
Just putting it out here in case peopel wanna know...
very cool all...just put it in my dock...thanks

Some other launchers such as Launcher Pro, ADW Launcher Ex and Go Launcher Ex to mention a few let you set gestures for various things such as the notification bar. So no, the stock launcher isn't the only launcher for this gesture
I prefer setting ADW's swipe down on homescreen gesture for opening Notification tray myself...
I have used gestures since... forever?
I have no idea why this isnt added to the assorted skins or even vanilla Android. It makes so much sense.
I have my gestures setup so that swipe up = open app drawer, swipe down = open notification bar.
Another advantage of this is it means not having to have an app drawer icon on your dock, leaving more room for quick access icons.
Speaking of dock... another pro tip for GO Launcher EX users. Long press on an icon in the dock and hit 'gesture'. Voila - your dock icon can now perform another action by swiping up on the icon instead of just tapping it. Your 5 bar dock is now 10 actions.
I love GO Launcher.
yes, go launcher ex , use its swipe for notification. But it has alot of good functions too
Just another unneeded app running in the background? No thank you

I installed GO Launcher EX on Christmas on my EVO & it is so much faster & cooler now that I think I can wait to see the SGNote hardware in a US store as long as it's Q1 2012 (as EVO's video camera still sucks & Note does obviously have cooler abilities but would ideally like to try it in my hand first). No fan of TouchWiz here & would likely be using GO Launcher EX on Note.

Very useful, thank you for sharing.
I wonder if someone can help me replace the recent apps menu button for the settings button (3 dot menu) like how it is done on the one X, also is there a way to remove the widgets section on the app drawer.
Thanks and please .

You can flash a ROM (I use AOKP and it has this) that has settings for manipulating the Navigation Bar.

Well, you can always try out a different launcher. The closest I can think of that mimics stock the best is Nova Launcher and it can remove the Widgets menu (I forgot if you have to pay for the Prime version to do this.)

Rooted and working well. Unable to hide the bottom navigation bar using end apex launcher. When using the default Amazon launcher, the bottom bar fades after a second of non use. Not the same with apex. prevents a full screen experience.
Anyone having a similar problem?

I use GMD auto hide soft keys from the play store.
Sent from my LG-V500 using XDA Free mobile app
You mean the bar still persists even in apps? Or just when you're in the home screen of the launcher?

I'm using Apex aswell. Download GMDAutohide Softkeys from the playstore. And run the program with start on boot enabled (I'd probably buy the 'Pro Version' otherwise the navigation bar has a red line showing). Then under apex settings you can turn the notification bar off. That's how I got mine to look like this:

Thanks!

Yes. Actually I never really thought of it in any other way. You can do it through your launcher settings or usually the icon pack itself has a way to apply it (left side, should be there).

I mean, for example if I was in settings and I went into my apps instead of seeing their default icons I would see the icons from my selected icon pack. So no matter where I was seeing the icon it would be the Icon pack's icon. Hope this helps.

In settings>apps specifically? No I dont think itll switch the icons there but it will change them all on your homescreen and in app drawer.
I use Action Launcher 3 and I can apply all from the launcher settings. Or like I said, open the icon pack itself and tap apply.

You need a custom launcher that supports icon packs. Android launcher doesn't provide native support for icon packs. Icons are applied system wide if you are using a custom launcher and make it your default homescreen instead of Android's launcher. However, most icon packs will be missing icons for at least some of your apps. Some icon packs attempt to theme those icons and others just leave the stock icon.

Your launcher is system wide. You need to make the custom launcher your default home instead of Android's launcher. The launcher changes your home screens and your app drawer.

There was a xposed module that allow you to do that, change icons system wide. I didn't tried it lately, but used to work fine.
It's called Unicon, by Faruq Rasid, search for it in the PlayStore.
Edit: You're on N, so no xposed for you, Sorry.
Hello, does LG G6 support icon packs? I can't find a way to set them, and I tried several different ones.
Nope need 3rd party launcher
I use Nova launcher and Urmun icon set & infinite S8 icon pack set
i used Nova and then switched and purchased Action Launcher. I like it better after using Nova off and on for a few years minus the iphone 6+ year and The GS7 as i was satisfied with the themes from they're theme store.

You can edit the icon image by long pressing on it, then select edit option and select an image, you can use this app = https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.redphx.themex
To extract icon images from icon packages of your liking.
I have set AOSP icons on the stock theme, pretty cool now!
