[Q] bad battery life, and slow charging - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, i have 2 problems, maybe one of them is a bug.
i flashed phoenix rom 2 days ago, and the battery life is bad, i get 70% done in 10 hours with 2hour screen on.
and the second problem is, i noticed that when charging my phone, according to current widget it charges @ 1200ma while the adapter says 2A.
i have experience with phoenix rom, on note 2 and also on my s4, but that was a while ago, but i flashed other roms and now back to phoenix (always with full wipe) and now my bat life is bad.
plz help me

Try flashing other rom and see how it goes...

Why do we got the problems with our BATTERYs ?!

So... I was wondering... WHY DO WE GOT THAT PROBLEMS !?
If we take the NEXUS S Rom and convert it for our PHONES (GT540), where is the TRICK ? Why do we get that problems with the battery and te NEXUS S users not ?!
NEXUS S got the same battery like GT540 and after the GSMarena compare, the GT540 takes it much better then the NEXUS S !
CAN someone explain it maybe ?! Cause I really dont understand
Its the rom itself not the battery.

I know that thx for the reply... But where is the TRICK, why is the ROM quilty for that probs, why is everything else working just perfect and just the battery not ?!
Im sry for that topic and for that question, but Im gonna sell my phone cause of the freakin ****ty battery lifes on every better ROM
Well the rom has a file with the battery calculator. And this isnt calibrated right for all roms.
Also most roms are still under active development so dont get your hopes up about good battery life etc etc

I think battery problem have something with kernel, on 2.1 i use 4 diferent kernel (orginal lg, 666 infernal, quarx, pcfighter) and every kernel have diferent battery life, diferente dischargin steps. So... no orginal kernel no good battery life.

THX for you answer !
I have a Nexus S. The battery lasts 1 day If I use .It is not overclocked (yet) . The battery is same on gt540 it lasts 1 day if I use it.See the attached screenshots from my Nexus S.
What I usually do is that after the battery is charged to 100%, I reboot the phone in recovery and keep it plugged in and charge for anther 15 mins. That seems to give me an additional 1 hour as my phone stays at 100% for at-least an hour before falling back to 99%.
I have had my phone off charge for 5 hours and its sitting on 95%.

Really god i need to invest time in re calibrating mines shocking 13hrs then it died
Battery depends on few things.
1. Kernel
2. Rom itself
3. It will drain faster with data on.
4. Some crapy apps kill your battery.
Choose kernel and rom wisely. Turn off your data if you don't need it. Uninstall unnecessary apps

FOR all those WHO GOT the same problem like me...
I fingered out how my battery is holding for 4 days now...
When you plugin your phone into charge mode... just dont let it to go into "SCREEN OFF"... make your Screen OFF to 30minutes and just hit the screen every 25 mins... or just install an app which doesent allow your phone to autoScreenOff it
After this lil trick... it just works for me now... I hit 113Hours with this trick on Muraiks M6 Version !!!!!!!!!

the problem can be the battery, even if it's a new one.
I tried two other batteries, and the problem had continued.
I think the other ones was fake/old batteries, but sold as original and new.
Thanks for the help, the problem is solved, I just had to do full sbf install for 3 times. Now my mobile is on for about 26 hours using the new battery. (On 4.2.2)
Maybe I had problems both with the old battery and the battery files on the ROMs.

I have been experiencing similar battery problems running Whiterabbit 2.1.1 on my Green lens Defy Mb525. Which 4.2.2 ROM are you using Jinx? If I flash a new ROM and recalibrate the battery is that likely to fix it? I'm guessing sbf install is the same as a full factory reset. (forgive me, I'm a beginner when it comes to all this!) How come you needed to reinstall 3 times?
I don't know, what solved my problem, but the fact is that I reinstalled the sbf three times than updated to Quarx's latest 4.2.2 nightly than I got it right.
My phone just run out of power after 3 days 4 hours. Good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to reply Jinx.
3 days is excellent! I flashed sbf twice, had some trouble running Jellybean ROMs without serious lag, so am currently reverting back to 7.2, running 'Cyanmobile experience'. It runs smoothly, but still encountering the battery drops, so its somewhat of a mystery!
I'll keep experimenting.
I have a spare battery, and an external wall charger. Currently swapping between the two to last through the day with enough juice!

Somehow, even for me, after 3 sbf flashes, CM10 is really smooth and there are no problems so far. Oddly, after the second sbf flash, CM10 was quite laggy.
I bought my brand New defy in October 2012. I've had huge battery drops ever since I jumped onto the CM10 bandwagon from this February. How's that possible?

[Q] Battery calibration

Hope this isn't a dumb question but after the EVO 4G I stepped away from android for a while (worst mistake ever) ....now that I am back I was curious, the way roms and kernels are being developed nowadays do you still need to calibrate battery after flashing new roms??
Never heard of battery calibration on any android phones in the past 2-3years...if ever.
Just let it drain from normal use to 15% then fully charge it.

I know a couple of years back or whenever the EVO was the big cheese you had to calibrate after flashing. Recoveries even had options for wiping battery stats. I just wasnt sure if it was an issue anymore. But thanks!
A battery is a battery. As far as I know its taken care of by hardware that is responsible for charging it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
These phones (Galaxy S models) take care of it themselves. All you do by calibrating is wipe the battery stats, but it won't provide any benefit.
Wow I havent heard anythong about battery callibration since forever ago xD I usually always flash roms on a full battery let them die then full charge for a couple days then start doing the testing of the rom!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
I remember reading over in the sgs3 forum about wiping battery stats/ calibration was that it was proved it was all a myth. I'll have to look for it....
Omega v3.0, 3minit framework, kt kernel 2.2 Ghz
Calibrating your battery (or calibrating the software to correctly read your battery's charge) was something that needed to be done on the captivate (SGS1) after installing a new ROM but not on any of the galaxy phones since then. Even then the software would correct itself after a charge or two.

[Help] Battery Drain Problem

Hi All,
Everything was ok till the day before yesterday. But suddenly from yesterday I am facing a huge battery drain problem i.e. 1% per minute on my S4. I am running the latest version of Arrow Rom.
I did format everything and reinstall Arrow Rom but no luck. Then I restored my previous Stock CWM backup and again problem is same.
One more thing my phone's battery is taking too much time to full charge. It takes 5 to 6 minutes to charge 1%. Sometimes it takes more than that.Although my phone is only one year old. When Iam using phone for browsing or chatting with charger plugged in its not charging properly its decreasing.
Can anybody tell me what is the problem?

Your battery is more likely to be uncalibrated. Download Battery Calibration from Google Play and follow the steps on how to calibrate it. It requires ROOT. Any other things that can cause this are wakelocks, be careful what kernel you use. You can monitor wakelocks using Wakelock Detector from Google Play.
Or your battery might be a faulty one, check if its swollen

How old is the battery?? Over one year? Buy new one.
Or try to use Wakelock detector and after results use Greenify

Use power saving mode install stock rom
Auto brightness
Format sd card
Remove unnessesary apps
Stop all unusual apps like google plus hangout and play books etc etc those you don't use.
Disable chrome use dolfin or other's.
If you are using custom kernel or mods like audio mod or performance mods don't use them.
Auto sync off when not needed
If these steps don't work then change the battery
For charging use 2amp charger with a 16amp socket
Use stock usb
Clean your battery's copper area with petrol and also clean your
Usb cable and ports sockets
Hope this will help
And I know my English is not good.

4.4.4 has really hurt my battery. I thought it was the battery, so I replaced with an OEM. Still drained, so I did factory reset, same problem, went with CM11 and it still drains fast. It even drains when the phone is powered off. I can charge to 100 and then power down the phone and 24 hours later power on and the battery is around 60%.
