you have made alterations to your phone so its not longer stock. the file you are flashing is for a stock rom and to be flashed in a stock recovery. to flash the update simply re-flash a stock recovery and allow the update to go through. you can also simply wait and flash an updated custom stock rom.
Edit: link deleted....may confuse you
Edit2: Using the toolkits you should be able to find the stock recovery image and flash it back

Flash it to stock using the downgrade tools listed here in the forums.
And howI get back then to the stock recovery?

Do exactly like I said, flash using the downgrade tool to stock. Means just that, it will flash everything to stock. EVERYTHING WILL BE STOCK.

But will it update back to an A501 rom afterwards??
Was wondering, if I flashed the update.zip file using CWM, what would happen as I'm replacing the rooted CFW with a stock firmware that doesn't have CWM in it. Bricksville, do you think or it just wouldn't flash?
I flashed a Kit Kat rom, and before I was having problems with recovery. Now I'm having problems flashing a new ROM. Every time I try to flash a different rom, it says it flashes but it just goes back to the 4.4 rom I flashed first. I can restore a backup just fine, but even from the backup it does the same thing.

My MAC address keeps changing after reboot, and wifi is screwy no matter what I do. Full Wipe, factory reset, Factory image restore. Its seems the 4.4 roms change things that cant be undone. I now have to have my phone replaced.
Gah. I'd rather not have to have my phone replaced. I feel as if its just 4.4 ROMs though.

Try reflasing your recovery. If that doesn't work, then flash the 4.3 factory images.

I'm on the latest CWM touch, I believe 6.0.4.3. I haven't actually tried going from the 4.4 rom to a 4.3, but I know I can't go from 4.4 to a different 4.4 rom, or from 4.3 rom to a different 4.4 rom, it just goes to the first one I flashed.

GooManager is telling me that there is no recovery available for my device. That's odd.
If all else fails, download the stock 4.3 image and fastboot flash it, then try whatever other ROM you wanted.

The only other thing you might try now is flashing any 4.3 or 4.2.2 ROM, reboot, and see if it's now on that one or still on 4.4...
Or is that what you already did with PAC?
You can also manually format /system then /data from TWRP or CWM then manually flash your new ROM.

That's what I did. I went from 4.4 to PAC, and it booted into PAC. Same with CM 10.2. It seems to just be happening with 4.4 roms.

just manual format /system /data and /boot is the only thing I can think of besides what I've already mentioned.

I just wiped /system and /data, and now the 4.4 PA fails to flash, but CM 10.2 flashed. I'm gonna switch to CWM to see if it'll flash there.
UPDATE: CWM would NOT let me go back to the previous option when asking me to reflash recovery when booting, and it didn't flash PA, so now I'm stuck on the first 4.4 build with no GApps until 9 or 10 tonight. First thing I'm doing when I get home is flashing the factory image.
For whatever reason can't get the update to flash. I'm stock jwr66y except I have twrp and root. Is there a straight stock rooted rom for grouper yet or an I Sol?

Anyone?

You can't flash the OTA if you're rooted I believe. Try to unroot. If that doesn't work, maybe flashing the system.img from the extracted JWR66Y factory image might work.
If you want 4.4 asap, go back to stock 4.3.
Custom 4.4 roms will be available after Google releases the stock images.

You can flash it if you are rooted, you will only loose root. But it is so easy to root afterwards, just flash SU from recovery....
I couldn't get it to flash over the top of a rooted stock 4.3 rom.
In the end I used wug's toolkit to flash an unrooted stock 4.3 image (the toolkit does all the work for you, even downloading the stock image), then flashed the 4.4 zip over the top, again using wug's toolkit.
to be honest its a bit disappointing as there's no option to enable ART in developer options and no translucent notification bar/nav bar.
looks and feels exactly the same as it did with 4.3 (it's showing as 4.4. under 'about tablet').

I couldn't flash it with twrp, either. Switch to the latest cwm and try again. Worked for me.
My install failed at the end, while setting permissions, if I remember well. You could try to flash boot.img and system.img from the jwr66y factory image, just to be sure.
where is the ota. everyones talking about it,but, it aint even released on googles site???FRAUDS.

What I meant was if one is not using stock recovery and rom, will not get the official OTA update.

Thats 100% official. If you check the link, its straight from Google's OTA server.

That's not a full factory image, just the OTA image. I'm not in a hurry for any of this anyway. I'd rather just wait for a full stock rooted 4.4 ROM, whenever that's cobbled together. If it's not broken, don't attempt to fix.

To update 4.4.3, you needn't flash 4.2.2.Just flash using OTA or factory image.
And, when you flash stock 4.2.2 using factory image, it won't brick because it will flash your system and kernel.

You're not going to brick your device. The ota will just fail. You could try this which will put 4.4.3 on your device. You'll lose the custom rom and kernel but you can just re-flash those on your recovery

Hi everyone. I accidently flashed a 4.3 rom over a 4.4 one and my note 3 was bricked. I flashed stock rom via odin and got the phone alive and running again but I found out the recovery was missing/recovery bootloop. I tried flashing cwm through odin but it didnt work.Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you in advance. -sorry if my english is bad-

Which recovery are you referring to, the stock one or custom? Stock is hard to messed with except in extreme cases.

Flashing stock firmware will also replace any custom recovery you had with the stock one.
I've been using only CWM 6.0.4.7 by Chenglu. If you want to use this one, choose the correct version for your phone and flash using odin.
