Evernote integration with S Note - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) General

From Evernote Blog:
Evernote Now Integrated Into the Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Evernote’s goal is to help people around the world remember everything on every device that they use. Over the years, it’s been inspiring to see the range of smart products that have come to the market that incorporate Evernote, from phones and tablets to cameras and refrigerators.
Today, we’re very excited to announce a new partnership with Samsung that will deeply integrate Evernote into the core note taking capabilities of the popular Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Now, all S Note users will get the benefit of immediate note synchronization from their Samsung mobile device to every other device and computer where Evernote is installed. Like all notes in Evernote, they’ll instantly become searchable, can be tagged for quick organization and shared with others.
In addition, Evernote will offer S Note users increased monthly capacity to accommodate all of their notes, images and files.
Over the past several years, Samsung has continually created new and unexpected products that enhance the lives of consumers. We’re excited to be working with such an innovative and forward-thinking company.

Do you think that we'll see Note 8.0 S-note integration in the near future ?

I would most certainly think so. Seems to me that Evernote will (sort of) replace (or enhance) functionalities of S-Note and I couldn't see why this shouldn't work on other S-Pen-devices.
Probably we might have to wait somewhat longer though.

It is possible if Sammy wants to...but I do not believe as a upgrade of existing devices pn 4.3 that we might get...
My thoughts is that only new devices will be offered with new features like evernote premium. ?.

I don't think it would be wise of Samsung to not include the feature for other S-Pen-devices. There are lots of people who use a note II (and soon note 3) as their phone AND the Note 8 or 10 as their tablet. Not being able to sync between those just wouldn't make sense.

Manual sync of my Note 2 and 10.1 has screwed up all my notes. Some are even locked and I can't figure out how to unlock these. Hopefully Sammy has fixed this cross sync issues.

:good: Agreed. I started using Dropsync after losing some notes on Samsung Sync. I tried Evernote Sync but it was flaky, as was Google Docs.
Dropsync works perfectly.

dropsync is one of the most essential apps i have ever used...i love it

I don't know about you guys but when I use dropSync it didn't work properly it constantly cause my snote to say syncing notes which took about a minute to finish
I was using it to sync my nose between my Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy note 10.1 but found it way too sluggish to work properly and use it as my daily driver for syncing notes between the two devices
this is why I really like the the evernote integration because not only will it sync between devices but I can sync it with my desktop as well
but curiously I haven't been able to find a single video or a tutorial on how this is supposed to work can somebody like one

I just bought the Note 3, and am a huge Evernote user so the new integration on the new version of S-Note has been awesome for me. The downside of having the Note 8.0 now is what is mentioned above. I used to use Dropsync to sync my S-Notes folders between my Note 2 and my Note 8.0. Now that the file types are different, .spd files rather than the older S-Note's .snb files, I can no longer do that. I even tried syncing S-Notes using my Samsung account hoping they would have some kind of conversion happen behind the scenes-no dice. I can view Notes created on my Note 3 (.spd) on my Note 8.0 via Evernote, or using this app I found on the Samsung App Store http://www.samsungapps.com/appquery/appDetail.as?appId=com.samsung.spdviewer , but I can no longer edit those new notes on my 8.0 due to the new file type. I'm really hoping Samsung hurries up with an update so I can have the new version of S-Note on my 8.0 and get back to my old syncing ways. If you want to know more about how Evernote is working with the Note 3, which will be the same on the new 10.1 2014 Edition, feel free to ask whatever questions you'd like. I've tested that a bunch now as well and have been happy with the results.

Hi Nate, I hope you are well and happy.
I currently use an original N7000 and in March 2014 (when my contract is up) I'll be looking to upgrade. I'll probably buy a new Galaxy note 3 as a handset (I'm in need of a new watch as well and the Galaxy Gear is a possibility) also air command looks sweet and I'm keen to try it.
I'm also hoping to buy my first tablet PC before January as I'm a motorcycling Computer Science under-grad and looking to reduce the weight I need to carry to university by leaving my 11.6 inch Acer Aspire 1825ptz touchscreen netbook at home and taking a thinner lighter tablet to lectures. I've been using Evernote for over 7 months now and love it, although I miss S-Note functionality a bit (running cyanogen 10.2-20131107-nightly-n7000 mod.) I was considering buying the 8 inch Galaxy Note but having read this thread I'm more inclined to get the 10.1 inch 2014 Note now.
I'll mostly be reading papers (.pdf) on it in the Kindle app (see attached) which I'll want to annotate as I'm reading, view powerpoint presentations in it (I use kingston office for this on my N7000 so I for see no problems with the 10.1 inch) again that I'll want to take notes onto.
I guess what I'd like to know please:
1. How exactly do the 2 apps integrate? Is it you open SNote and it's got a share to ever note option? Or vica versa? Or are they completely integrated into one app?
2. Do you think a Galaxy 3 / Gear / 10.1 inch 2014 Note is the optimal solution for the remainder of my studies and then more importantly do you think it'd be a good solution for a trainee teacher? (yrs 11 - 18)
3. Did I read somewhere that the 10.1 inch or the Galaxy 3 is going to have an IR blaster? (I could use a decent remote control)
Thanks in advance for any help / youtube review / links to relevant posts / URL's you can give.

All I want is Inking support in Evernote. The only reason I use S-Note at all is because of its default support for inking notes, but if I could use the stylus in Evernote on both my Windows 8 and Android devices, I'd be set.

Missing Galaxy S III support for Samsung TV’s

For those with one of the newer Samsung Smart TV’s there no S3 compatible versions of the Samsung Remote or Samsung Smart View apps on Play, which I used a lot on my S1, and apparently we’ll have to wait until late summer for an update to get Allshare Cast working directly with these TV's. It’s a bit of a disappointment. I’m sure updates will arrive eventually, but it’s a shame the phone’s not feature complete at launch.

Yes, I wonder if it has something to do with the WiFi chipset or Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS)? I used to run the Samsung remote app on all of my phones, but I noticed my HTC EVO 4G LTE (basically the One X with MicroSD and kickstand) is not compatible with either of the newer Samsung apps.
I guess I will keep my OG Samsung Epic around for QWERTY remote duties.
I got smart view to work on my galaxy S3, but I used the titanium backup from my galaxy S2
no idea what fixed it, haven't got it running on my gf's S3 yet...
Actually, I tore apart the Samsung remote apps to take a peek as I'm an Android Developer.
Anyone who does Android Dev will appreciate what I have to say next:.
The remote app consists of almost a 100 layouts all written using Absolute Layout, at best, the remote doesn't align on the screen buttons overlap etc, at worst, it crashes on startup from bitmap allocations exceeding the VM heap. Which is what happens on the S3..
Samsung got some really sh*t devs to write the remote and I've already emailed offering to rewrite it lol, but alas, the email, via the market url probably went direct to those devs.
I did get it working on my note by rewriting a few of the layouts but got bored after about 20.

does anyone have issues with using the Allshare Cast/Play?
My samsung tv recognizes my s3/comp but when i attempt to open the internal storage music or video folders, my tv freezes. idk what the issue is.
Pls change the title, there is still dlna and mhl.

I just dl`ed the samsung smart view .apk after googling a while to find it.
It is version 3.2.0 and it works 100% for my samsung bluray player BD-E8300. Both the smart view and the remote control. I just dont see why samsung wont release it officially via the app store.
Is samygo an option for your tv? Just the remote or remote and hacked tv.
Fully working version 3.2.0

There is a version on play store released recently, that's compatible with sgs3.
Including working dual view feature for high end tv and bluray.
Note 2 not supported still. If you force install, like restoring sgs3 titanium backup, dual view does not work, but remote does. This artificial prohibition started with 3.2.1. So 3.2.0 works for both sgs3 and sn2, while latest works fully only for sgs3.

S-Note and Media Hub Sync

Ok so I have had my Note 2 since launch and love it. The Samsung account syncs the S-notes and can restore them. The Note 10.1 doesnt even have the option in the sync setting for the Samsung account. Does anyone know if the JB update will add this so your S-notes are synced across your Note devices?

Well went down the road of doing the gem ICS them changing the CSC file and it did the OTA update to JB. S-notes syncs fine I see my notes on both my Note 2 and the Note 10 but what really sucks is the Music Hub App is nothing like the one on my N2. None of the cloud music I have uploaded none of the Radio stations its just a Buy Me type apps this is very disappointing. If Samsung cant see the value in makeing it a seamless expirance across their Note Line they are lost in the weeds. Im not an Apple fan but they have got that stuff right. I think Im taking it back and going for the Nexus 10 if this is what I have to work with. Its a shame

Let's pretend you asked for help rather than ranting. Why yes, you can set up the "new" Music Hub on the Note 10.1. Download Astro (or tool of your choice) and back-up the app off of your N2. Then share it to Dropbox. Download the APK from Dropbox and it'll install on your Note 10.1 asking if you want to replace the installed version. Voila. Music Hub II on your Note 10.1. I can upload it to DB for you if you have any issues. Note: It only works on multiple (Samsung) devices if you've provided a credit card for the premium service.

Boy if that's a rant I'm not sure what to say....Thanks for the direction though. Been an Android guy since the Hero on sprint. Over time I have found I dont do all the ROM flashing anymore and just want the full experience without messing around. Thats a pretty easy fix though. Why wouldnt MH 3.0 be part of the JB update is my big question.

OK, not a "rant." Maybe a bit rant-ish. It was the “I’m going to get a N10” that threw me. Music Hub II isn't fully released yet. It was available originally for the U.S. only and only on the SGS3. They added the N2 and the UK, Germany, France, and Italy only recently. The original UI was pretty cheesy too. They obviously see it as a way of generating revenue because it’s a pretty ambitious effort so I'd expect it to become both more available and better promoted soon.

I have replaced Spotify, Pandora and Google Music with it. Simple to use easy to search, syncs with my Families iTune Lib. reasonable price. out of 5600 songs only 6 didnt make the "Locker". The "EQ" is Bass, Mid, Highs..perfect for me. Note2 with my Bose Soundlink is a wonderful road warrior combo in hotel rooms. Cant wait to see it "Official" on the Note 10.1 will make a great portable multimedia Platform. My only other WTF was why they didnt include NFC in the note 10 for beaming that would have been great for quick transfers between devices. DropBox fills that to some extent but it would have been icing on the cake.
Oh and you can set storage to your ExtSD .... THANK YOU SAMMY

"S Note" application /samsung disappointment. BEWARE

I used S note a lot on galaxy Note.
Then bought Note 2 - used S-note even more.
Then I bought Note 10.1 - and got dissapointed, the S-note app for 10.1 were older and missed some fetures.
Now I bought Note 3 - a much newer "S note" app, that converts the notes to a new format. - that note 10.1 never got an update for...
So. using Samsung proprietary app, which they (dirty bastards) do not update using Google Play, is a big fail. It makes me stuck with old version of the app, something that would not happen to any normal Android app on google Play.
Morale of this story is: do not trust apps that are not updated via google play for all devices.
Solution ?

have you tried copying over the note2.apk?
I think it's flat out ridiculous that we have to be stuck with old versions of software because the companies are too greedy and only focuses on new products and selling new hardware/software. I mean we've been on 4.1.2 since release and 4.3 is rolling out to other devices. Couldn't we at least be on 4.2.2? Come on Saumsung. I love your devices but this is craziness.

Check out Lecture Notes, works well & offers may more features than all versions of stock software. Since when do the hardware mfg's have to offer all software? They don't provide updates via Android Store because they can offer updates via firmware, so why should they have to pay Google for a service they already provide? My advise open your wallet instead of your mouth.

Well, Samsung does not need to pay google for free updates via Play, - and could resctrict it to their devices.
On the other hand, they could provice updates using Samsung apps market, which they do not....
finally you write "because they can offer updates via firmware" - and that's the main problem: they did not.
- While you are prety cocky with "My advise open your wallet instead of your mouth" - you brought one great suggestion for an app... purchased.
thanks.

I must be missing something here. My notes work fine on my Note 10.1 (2012 edition) and my Note II.
There are some minor differences, but I can still read them on both devices.
OP is fruatrated because not all Samsung devices are using the same version of note-taking software, right?

My take is the newest version on the Note 3 will convert notes from 2/10 to a newer format. And the 2/10 do not YET have the newer version of SNote to use the newer format.

It will probably roll out with the next OS update. Samsung committed to take the 10.1 as far as 5.0. I'm betting it will go to 4.3 before Christmas since compatibility with Gear needs 4.3 and they want you to buy a Gear for Christmas!

The new SNOTE stores its files in a differnent folder on the sd card and in additon, the old snote could handle folders of notes, but the new one doesn't seem to support this.
EDIT: It does support folder but you have to tap the "recent note" and then the menu allows you to create a folder. The only way to possible share between verison I can see is to export from Note3 to pdf and then import the pdf in Note 2. Sucks..

I was also quite disappointed with S Note. I used Samsung Note 10.1 (2012)'s S Note extensively, and sync them to the Samsung account. Just bought the 2014 Note 10.1, and to my surprise, the old S Notes don't sync over.
I resorted to Syncing with Evernote, and then opening up in Evernote in the 2014 edition. When I click on the notes, it says I have to covert them to the new format. When I did, it looked like everything was mucked up. Diagrams all went out of alignment etc.

Do you still have the old one? If so export the notes to PDF. Maybe lots of work but should get them moved.

How likely will be see Microsoft Office on Note PRO?

I saw the news and as far as I recall, the new CEO of Microsoft mentioned that he wants to have Office running on any devices. Does that hint that we could run Office on the Note in the near future?
Not sure that I care, I am sure I do not care.
Problem is, only Windows will support all macros and such. Their Mac version still doesn't support all macros and it has been around for 20 years or so.

Yes it can do animations, but they are a lite choppy. They will be basic, not every one office has.

Anything Microsoft puts out will be tied to Office 365 at $100 for up to five users. Hanson is great. Add a keyboard and mouse and it has 60% of office. Most people only use 40% of office features anyway.
I think I am ok with the Hancom office, it's about as close as the real Microsoft Office as it can get. And there is no extra charge for it, most likely Microsoft will add an extra charge for office.

You mean this?

Anyone using it on their phones? Are you able to open email attachments within it, edit them and send them back? Just wondering since it has been noted that it doesn't allow writing to local storage but works only with OneDrive.
Edit: Just watched Android Authority's review and am unimpressed. Hancom offers far more functionality than the office mobile apps.

At least with hancom you have the ability to insert and manipulate images.

I installed it on my Galaxy Note 2 but it seems that it cannot open files stored in the phone. It seems that we have to store the files in OneDrive first. Can anybody else confirm this? It seems to be inconvenience. Anybody tried OneDrive? Is Microsoft trying to make us use this service?

Confirmed. You have save files in OneDrive.
You can open email attachments, edit and send, but that is it. The 'back of storage options is sad. I do get why they do it, they have to make money since they are not charging for the app. It needs to support Dropbox or at least local storage.
So, basically it is no use unless I get OneDrive. If I do, will it be fully compatible with the Windows/Mac versions of Office?
You can get 10 GB of free OneDrive storage. I use it solely for backups of my documents and textbooks. Hancom blows Office for Android out of the water at current, and unless they update it to be able to work on files while offline I don't see it beating Hancom anytime soon.
Samsung's agreement with Hancom helps make the Pro series THE Android tablet to own.

I haven't tried all the functionality yet, but at least for now it appears M$ is also allowing 'office online' for free if you have any kind of microsoft account (xbox, onedrive, etc).
Go to office.com and you can use office online, appears to work fine in chrome browser with 'request desktop site' ticked. Obviously internet connection needed, might chew up a bit more bandwidth than office mobile but hopefully someone finds it useful.
It's not perfect, but it's solid, and FREE

Some of the graphics scaling is off, but not unusable.
Not that these devices are considered affordable, but open source software is, for everyone. It provides opportunities for new, and otherwise-hampered developers to hone their skills. Here's the kicker, though, it can (and sometimes does) keep commercial software developers on their toes, that is, if it doesn't provide them with usable code. My favorite part about it is that it's free of commercial interest, so far, so you don't have to worry about data-mining or time-wasting popups & notifications.
Not that this is open source, but OO is, as are the file formats. Every little nudge helps.

Office for Android Tablets Preview

Well, it looks like Microsoft is finally inching closer towards releasing Microsoft Office for Android tablets, and I'm sure quite a lot of you with Note Pro 12.2" tablets would be interested to try it out.
(sorry, can't post links yet, but just google for 'office android tablet', there is a lot of information released on news sites in the last 24 hours.)
Unfortunately, the preview sign-up says they are only supporting tablets 7" - 10.1"
I tried signing up for a preview and chose 10.1" but when it asked for the tablet model I chose other and typed in "Samsung Galaxy Note Pro"... I guess I might get rejected
Can anyone share their experiences if they've been able to get the preview running on the Note Pro?

try this apk
edit: wrong apk, sorry
I grabbed the apk off my phone and dropped on my P900; it's working great but only in portrait mode. I tried to force it into landscape mode ( I'm on CM11 ) and it completely crashed the tablet, so ... If you want to try it, grab "MyAppSharer" to isolate the apk file for exporting.
Can someone please post the apk's? I am a beta tester but use a nvidia shield tablet... Won't let me download..
Thanks

Also a beta tester
Im also a beta tester but don't have a device to take the apk. from. Has anyone figure out a way to download the apk if u don't have a eligible device.
I've tried several ways, no luck so far. It's driving me nuts as the Note 10.1 2014 works with it and our resolutions are identical.

Try this link: Install MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
Worked for me on my Note 12.2 (P901). Works in landscape mode, too.

Worked awesome. Very nice for a beta. Perfect for the 12.2.

Here's the link to the newest Office for MS Android APK installable on Note 12. It's available free so it's not warez. Some tinkering to get in in Landscape may be required. Enjoy.
Not sure you will get the automatic updates to office if downloaded from that site.

That's the old crappy version (15), not version 16 beta which is what this thread is about.
Seems the latest beta supports our tablet without having to side load. Just download it from the play store like normal.

Yup, the Beta from the 16th allowed for screens larger than 10.1". Some people are reporting that you MUST have Office 365 to edit docs with the latest beta *IF* your screen is over 10.1". While many are complaining about it, this is consistent with their policy for Windows tablets. With Windows tablets, the cutoff is 9". iPads ...... well they are no "laptop replacement" tablets yet so it's free on all of them.
It's rather annoying, but not a deal breaker for me. I ran out and picked up a 4 year university subscription as I currently qualify for it. The latest preview runs smoothly, but at the moment I still honestly prefer HWord.
Not finding it.

Wingdo, I didn't do the beta thing, so I will have to wait until the official release. Thanks for responding.
