You have to wipe data before flashing a ROM.

I forgot to mention... I made a clean installation (wiped data/ factory reset , flashed the ROM and wiped cache/dalvik)
Are you flashing compatible GApps? Are you flashing any additional zips, like kernels or radios?

Same thing happened to me. The solution is to flash the rom, then flash purity kernel 153, and then reboot back to recovery and flash the rom again.

I'm thinking of flashing Trinity kernel on my Nexus 7. If I have troubles after flashing the Trinity kernel and want to revert back to my present kernel do I restore a nandroid backup or is there something else I have to do to get present kernel back? Am currently running CM 10.1 jb 4.2.1 on my Nexus 7. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Just do a dirty flash (flash CM10.1 again without factory reset, just wipe cache and dalvik). Your kernel will be overwritten.

yup, thats the easiest way. but you dont have to wipe anything, not even dalvik or cache. you can always extract the boot.img from the cm rom and flash it via fastboot too.
Thanks simms. I'm still trying to figure everything out just got my Nexus for Christmas.

Flashed Trinity kernel on my Nexus 7 and it is great. Am running CM 10.1 JB 4.2.1 latest nightly and so far everything is working awesome. Thanks for everyones input. Thanks to morfic for a wonderful kernel. Boom! Freak out now.
I recently rooted my nexus 7 and now im trying to flash clemsyn's kernel to it, however i haven't been able to get it to work. I've tried rebooting into recovery and wiping the cache and dalvic cache, then installing from zip, but it always fails. any idea why?
You flashed it on which rom? I think it's not compatible with your rom.
Ensure you read the OP of the thread to verify that the kernel is compatible with the version of Android that you're using. Remember, always RTFM, even if you think you know what you're doing.

Roms include a kernel and will overwrite the previously installed kernel. If you want to flash a custom kernel in conjunction with a rom, you always flash the kernel after the rom.
Oh! That makes sense. I'll try that later and see if it works
I have the Canadian version (i337m) and I can not get 4.3 roms working. I have run the GE once before, but for some reason now none of them work. I can run any 4.2 rom, but if I flash a 4.3 rom, it installs, and then I can reboot, I see the SGS4 logo, and then just a black screen.

Do the ROMs state that they include a loki'd kernel (for the ATT users with a locked bootloader)? If so, these won't work with the i337M as the bootloader is unlocked. You can try flashing a non-loki'd kernel (find them on the TMO and Internal variant forums) right after flashing the ROM -- hopefully that will work.

TWRP will work, yes. 2.6 is trash though, it freezes, so I recommend using 2.5.0.2 and manually loading it with Terminal Emulator from the Market using the commands on the TWRP website.
TWRP for jfltecan

Hello Guys!!!
I have a Samsung i9505 and I'm trying to use a custom rom. I've been using Google Play Edition 4.4.2 and sometime ago it started to notify the 4.4.3 update. I've tried to install it, but nothing happened. I've installed the Jamal GPE 4.4.3 and it works. The problem is that I can't reboot the device. If I do it, the device does not start again... have to install everything again... I've also tried to install Miui Rom, Mahdi Rom and the problem persists. All these Roms works, but I can't reboot... I'm using Team Win v2.5.0.
Am I doing anything wrong?
Thank You!

Reflashing a stock rom shouldn't be needed.
You are using an old version of the recovery. Upgrade the recovery and everything should probably be solved. Make sure to always fully wipe before flashing roms.

Hi Guys,
As you can see, I am new to this site. My phone is S4 19505. Yesterday, I tried to root my phone and that was a succes. Problem began when I want to install kernel for longer battery life. I have installed kernel from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297379 and I have chosen Touchwiz KitKat 4.4 version. After I flashed this kernel my s4 is not starting. It just stuck at first screen "where we get first white letters samsung galaxy s4".
I have no idea what to do now.
Can anyone please help me?
Advance thanks.

twrp. I dont know what you mean by stock rom because this is my first time I did. My device is running 4.4.2. and I chose for kernel 4.4 version of tw.
I think that you have to re-flash a new rom. Then, you have to retry installing root and the kernel.

I agree with msmlz, if you have nandroid restore it or download the firmware in sammobile and reflash it and before flashing the custom kernel again, read the thread, see if someone face bootloop like you. Hope someone with experience on it could help you, I never install custom kernel, just update the last stock kernel on my rooted stock rom.
