Hi guys,
first sorry for my bad english.
I have a big problem to face with my N1
I wish to install a custom ROM, so I've rooted my phone and downloaded the Rom Manager apps from Market. I've flashed the clockwork recovery and downloaded the cyanogenmod. So I reboot my phone in fastboot mode, select recovery and now I have a black screen, nothing happens. My phone boot only when I take off the battery, so now I have no Recovery mode in my phone. Someone can help me please ?
I've already tryed to flash the original recovery and AmonRA recovery (1.7.0 and 1.8.0) from my PC but it fails everytime and I have this message => FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
My N1 is in FRF91 build, with a Vodafone ROM from France (SFR)
The recovery is dependant on which screen you have. You've possibly flashed an incompatible recovery...
Which screen do you have?
How are you flashing your recovery?

Is the USB cable plugged in AT ALL? I keep hearing Clockwork is unstable if it is.
I stick with Amon myself.

I have an SLCD screen and i've tryed all clockwork recoveries featured in Rom Manager app and the latest AmonRA ( 1.8.0 )
But the problem is when i try to flash it with my PC by connecting the phone in fastboot mode, i allways have this message : FAILED (remote: signature verify fail) which means I can't flash any recovery :s
Do you know what is the problem ?
Sounds like you flashed an incompatible recovery. You're heading in the right direction with Amon-Ra 1.8.0...
How are you flashing the recovery? (Since your current recovery has a black screen, are you using adb, trying to do it through Clockworkmod, etc?)
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yeah i've tryed to flash the latest clockwork recovery with Rom Manager, it works, i mean i can flash it this way but i have the same result : black screen. And flashing it with my PC using - fastboot flash recovery <recovery name>.img - code give me the failure message that i talk about on my last post
I've read a few posts about 1.8.0 failing with Clockworkmod, and I believe the adb and terminal methods require an unlocked bootloader. There are a few methods to flash custom recoveries without unlocking the bootloader (I still have a locked bootloader). Do a search, find one you like, and give it a try. Clockworkmod is one of those methods, but again, I've read problems with the 1.8.0 recovery on Clockworkmod...

thanks a lot for helping me by sending this link but as I said before, unfortunately I can't flash the recovery even with my PC, the only solution seems to make a bootloader unlocking, but I don't want to loose the warranty, i'll check other ways to do this without unlocking my bootloader, if someone know how to do this, i'll be thankful.
The link also discusses how to flash without unlocking the bootloader, which is why I sent it... (see posts from September 27)

Yes but see what hapen when I try it =>
The locked bootloader discussion points to this, which suggests using terminal emulator from your phone...

thanks, I'm trying it immediately
...but with 1.8.0
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Sure ? Not with 1.8.0.1 ? Because I have an SLCD screen
I meant 1.8x instead of the 1.7x they mention in the write up...
Also, you can ignore my comment about using terminal emulator, and use adb if you want (long day, and I'm tired)

I surrender, it doesn't work, and I'm tired of trying flashing a recovery. It means no custom ROM for me :'(
Take a break, and come back to it tomorrow...

If you can get into CWM, you only need two more steps now
1) mount /system
2) install zip from sd -> su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip
Reboot and you are rooted.

Yes I follow the root technique of "hxxp://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-root-nexus-s/", and, like "vbobmac", my phone stock at google page.
After that, i try the "rootboot.img" who give "Si_NZ" to "vbobmac".
And, like him, after that when i boot, i can only boot into clockwork recovery, and i can't go into "bootloader" mode.
Can I make my rom at stock into clockwork recovery?
I hope, it's possible to unmake this mistake?
In the post "[ROM] Stock - 2.3.4 - GRJ22 - Deodexed w/radio for NS/NS4G", do i have to take a rom rooted or not? Because my phone is unlock, but not totally rooted i think.
Sorry for all those questions, but i'm a little lost. And i'm affraid to make an error who will kill my Nexus S.
Thank you a lot for your help, i wait your answer before doing anything.
Thank you again.
It's great to see people, who are ready to help directly.
Edit: Now I can boot in "bootloader" mode, but i try with ODIN to put back at stock my phone, but the computer (Windows 7) dont recognise the phSamsungone.
Even when I install PC Studio 3.
Do you now an other way to make my phone work? Root or at stock, doesn't matter. Just if he can live, it's good to me.

Can you access the sdcard to flash a rom? You can do that by going to clockwork recovery, then mounts and storage, then select mount USB storage, then on your PC go to my computer and press refresh until you see the phone storage appear, keep pressing refresh for atleast 5 minutes because sometimes it takes a while. Then download any rom rooted or unrooted and flash in clockwork recovery.
If you can't do that and you can use fastboot, I'll send you a system.img and boot.img to flash.

Yes, i can mount my phone, but when i try to install the default rom, but it's not working. I have an error.
At least the manipulation is working, i can mount on my computer the nexus.
Do you have a rom 2.3.4 for Nexus i9023 please? Maybe i don't flash with a good rom?
Thanks again for your help.
I try again, to flash with the original 2.3.4, but the operation abort everytime.
Do i have an other choice for flashing my phone?
Mount the sdcard is working, copy files work too, and i can run the update.
But, the operation abort with a "statut 7".

I flash, like the first time, from Windows "cmd"?
Sorry for all those questions, but i don't want to make something who can kill my phone.
And I think, i don't have the good bootloader.
My phone is a Nexus S i9023, but since i try to root my phone, my bootloader version is the "i9020XXKA3".
You think, i have to change the bootloader first?
For flashing bootloader and clocwork recovery, i have to do it from Windows?
Waiting for your answer.
Thank's a lot

Hi everyone!
I've flashed the latest (6.0.0.8) CWM on my L7 using ROM Manager which seemed to go well.
When I try booting into recovery I get the
"Secure booting Error! Cause: boot certification verify" error.
Since regular booting works I've tried to flash it again several times using ROM Manager but to no avail.
Has any of you experienced this issue before?
Googling doesn't seem to help.
Using stock ROM, device rooted using this method.

Hi, I somehow missed the thing that LG devices have a locked bootloader.
Thanks for pointing this out.
I unlocked the bootloader using this method.
Nonetheless, problem persists (after reflashing recovery)
Never mind, I figured this out.
Thanks guys you rock.
One of my brother's friend made "something" to my brother's phone trying to update it.
In short, he bricked the phone (p700), which is looping on boot animation.
What I tried so far:
-I used KDZ and pushed the V20A_00.kdz that has CWM 6.0.2.8, still no boot
-I tried to install a Custom Firmware got error "Status 7" telling me that the CF I wanted to install was for the p700 and my device is a "u0"
Now I'm stuck at this point, what am I doing wrong?
-I thought of pushing a valid p700 build.prop through ADB, but "su" command doesn't work.
-I thought of editing the "scriptupdater" file of the CF, first I tried with this method this time it doesn't give me "Status 7" but it aborts the installation without furher explanation
At this point I'm starting to lose hope, I really want to fix this, please, could you help me?

You have to update your recovery with Rom Manager or flash the latest TWRP with CWM ( TWRP is an other recovery ) ! No need to edit anything !

Sometimes, the problem happens when your recovery is outdated. So, download ROM Manager and in the app you'll be able to update CWM. If it's already update, download TWRP by @tudorsbird and flash it with CWM. Your recovery will be TWRP but you won't be able to restore backups performed with CWM. If you can't boot but have a SD card, you can put TWRP on the card and flash it.
Or, you can try this ( with Fastboot ) to flash a new recovery :
