So I have been always having trouble when using a custom lock screen so I could wake the device with the trackball. All the lock screens I tried would either work for a little then just stop working all together. Or the lock screen wasn't secure (the screen could be bypassed with a simple button press). I recently started to use dxTop again and got reminded that it has its own custom lock screen, granted its a iPhone style lock screen. But the lock screen have been working with out issue, and no matter what you can not get it to close unless you unlock it. Also dxTop is a nice home replacement and runs smooth on the Nexus. Figure I would throw this out there for anyone else who has similar issues.
EDIT:
You can also just use the lock screen without using dxTop, just make sure its set to on and just use the launcher home.
dxtop suck if you want a new theme made by someone other than them. they dont support 3rd party themes anymore since the master baron was bought out. no more template. my gripe.. pity, they were my fave until then.
People have trouble staying on topic here. Lol.
I used lock 2.0 for a while but it was just too slow and didn't always override the old lock.
I'm waiting for something nice myself. I don't like the look of the stock lock.
Anyone using Home++, what d you guys think?
Run home + + and enjoyed it. I have now found flyscreen and so I have stopped while I test flyscreen out.
I've been using Flyscreen for a while now without problems. I have to unlock the normal screen and then Flyscreen when I first start the phone but that's tolerable.
I wish they'd add a widget for the standard music player.
let's hope this is the correct place to post this
I got the international galaxy S and I really hated the Samsung unlock screen
is it possible to replace it with the vanilla stock one ? and how ?
I use launcher pro so I don't mind losing touchwiz anyway
I'm running on a rooted device
and thank you
I am very curious about this too.
Would really like to have the stock unlock screen that also has the 'silent mode' option when you swipe from right to left instead.
seems like either nobody knows or nobody cared to try it
there are programs to change the lock screen , but nothing is like the real thing
Truth to be told you have 2 options.
1. Use samsungs lock screen, it has missed call/sms/blah notifications on it, and also music player controls.
2. Use pattern lock, it's the same as stock then.
I am using samsung's lock screen now , so that's not an alternative option XD
but I'd like to have the stock one .. love it >.<
and pattern lock .. it's awful trying to unlock it while driving [tried it XD]
as far as i know, widgetlocker lets you unlock your screen with vanilla sliders!

It has other features like widgets on your lock screen, sounds like a promising app, you should try it out and see if it fits your needs!
widget locker is great. try it

I tried it , but what bothered me is that you can't lift the unlock slider upward (the real one is kinda higher) and what was more annoying is you can edit the widgets from the lock screen , meaning you just by mistake keep on holding a widget and it moves
again , here I don't just want the look , I actually wanted to see if it's possible to change the apk , switch it from the touchwiz to the real stock apk file (if it exists)
You can switch from the Widget Locker unlock slider to the standard Android one in the settings, but you lose a line of widget/shortcut space. You can also make the unlock slider the Sense or iPhone one if that's your thing. You can also disable editing widgets while locked.
Widget Locker is worth the purchase really, it's cheap and does what you want.

Judging by the video this looks like a must have app on the hd2. i love the swiping the whole lockscreen effect .a choice of different skins available interchangebale backgrounds pics also the ability to vreate your own on the website THIS IS A NEW EXPERIENCE im looking to purchase this app before i do can anyone recommend it? if they tried it are there any negatives except the price? tHanks All
When I first got my Touch Pro2, my problem was locking it. I was looking at PocketShield, but in all honesty, there are other great [free] lockscreens such as TouchLockPro, S2U2, (don't know if it's still around) ThrottleLock.
I used TouchLockPro on my TP2, and I loved it, especially since the developer actually utilized the zoombar as an unlock mechanism. However, it has other features that are compatible for the HD2: Proximity Sensor, Light Sensor, Hardware Button Combinations, etc.
However, if PocketShield has a trial version, I advise you to try before you buy, especially since it's $15 (USD)!
thanks you make a valid point.i will trial the product before making purchase..has any of the other programs you mentioned have the feature to unlock by swiping the whole lockscreen?

Unfortunately, no.
TouchLockPro doesn't even have a UI to unlock; you will only know it is locked if there is a thin, solid bar (the color of the bar is customizable) at the top of the screen or if you use the BattClock (a box with the battery percentage and the clock), which changes color. The lack of a UI is what makes this lock very "lite".
S2U2 is an iPhone-style lock, though there are many skins/themes that can be found here on XDA to make it look less like the iPhone.
ThrottleLock, which I have never tried, is an Android-style pattern lockscreen -- you make your own pattern (connecting the dots on a grid) to unlock it.
I use Pocketshield about 1year and its super program i can recomande it..

I've been using PocketShield for a while. It is an excellent program. The Pin Locking actually works, and is easy to use. It has several other very useful features to customize the way it works.
I wouldn't be without it now. It's pretty cheap, too.
it has a 15day trial which im currently into! i think its a fantastic app. a must have!!
I also use pocketshield for a couple of months.
Works as it should. No problems
Maybe more nice themes is something to be wanted
is there a way you can upload more themes to it?
i use pocketshield & i highly recommend it. i actually PAID for it, and i never buy apps unless theyre that awesome. i do think it needs more themes though. but you can change the background pic, so its not that big a deal.
This lock screen looks great, seems smoother than S2U2 in the unlock animation.
I definitely want it, but $10 seems WAY too much for a lock screen.
great app
I used S2U2 before but since a few months I switched to Pocketshield. I can say one thing : it's worth the money for sure.
Easy to use and to customize.
Nice skins.
All the customization I did is working perfectly (e.g. unlocking exceptions, application permissions,...)
There are regularly updates and the lock screen gets more and more developed too (more information).
definately feels alot smoother than s2u2 plus other features too. tbh i removed s2u2 because i didnt like the apple iphone aspect of it rather keeo it original..finally agree with price being a issue
I have also tried PocketShield and although it is attractive, I find that its "application exception" is pretty buggy. "Application exception" allows you to specify applications that you do not want to lock the screen, e.g. music player. I find that it will attempt to lock the screen then try to unlock it, which seems to cause some undesirable effect, like freezing the phone.
S2U2 also has this feature and works a lot better as it will not lock the screen at all for applications listed.
I do like the vertical swipe feature of PocketShield which is a lot easier to apply than the iPhone style sideway swipe. Unfortunately this one problem stops me from using it.
I think I will give this a try. Been using s2u2 without complaint, but always looking for something new. If you can just swipe the screen, then that would be an added bonus.
im currently using it right now. trial version though. im having mixed emotions about it though. will still try it for a few more days. it has a lot of nice skins and is very easy to use... but im still hesitant getting it though.
anyone know how to disable the notifications popups? apparently pocketshield enables them and I have never used them.
i totaly forgot this one.. looks like it got amazing now
really thinking about buying it this time..
nrfitchett4,
have you tried to alter the notifications option in settings?
I also used it for a couple of time and paid for it. My problem was the following: appointments haven't updated properly on the PS-lockscreen and so I threw it away for now. Will try again later.
After seeing this post on Gizmodo about Nokia using bubbles on the lock screen to get to different apps on the phone (SMS, Phone, etc), I got to thinking that though would be a great basis on a secure and dynamic lock screen for Android.
Imagine having about five or six bubble floating on your lock screen, each one having a different image or icon inside of it. You have to to tap the bubble in a certain order to unlock your phone. The catch is that the bubbles are moving and never in the same place each time you see your lock screen.
Example: six bubbles with different images (cat, car, house, speaker, android guy, phone), to unlock your phone you have to tap house, android guy, phone and then cat. Since they are always moving, and never start in the same place each time you wake your phone, you never have to worry about some glancing your lock pattern or worry about a smudge pattern on the screen that can be seen. All anyone will see is spots where you've tapped your screen like any other area of the OS.
Dynamic, secure, intuitive, easy to remember, images can be changed to keep it even more dynamic and secure.
I've been thinking about modding WidgetLocket to make custom lockscreen stuff - I'd love to make a Honeycomb esque unlock screen. I don't know if it's possible though, I'm guessing it would take quite a lot of work if it was. If I can, I might try this as well.
The problem is that unlike normal lockscreens with passwords/patters is that the unlocking pattern will be different every time. While this keeps prying eyes at bay it could also get on your nerves after a few tries. Imagine waking up bleary eyed and trying to unlock your phone quickly or in the daylight where it may be much harder to distinguish between icons.
I do like the idea though but i'd something closer to the Nokia bubbles idea, something full of eye candy
As with anything that has some form of built in security lockouts, there is almost always many different levels to choose from. Generally, the more secure, the harder it is to use. It's just an excepted trade off, and it always will be until we're all rocking phones with retinal scanners built into them.
This is just an idea though and some fleshing out would be needed to make it easy to use weather wide awake, or half asleep, weather you have your glasses on or not.
An additional idea is to be able to choose from fancy pretty icons, or just simply make them colored bubbles. The later being easy for bad/blurry vision. The key here is that the icons are alway moving slowly and never start in the same place when the phone wakes and that there is no swiping finger smudge pattern on the screen.
I'm not a dev and really don't have the patience to code, so these could all be pipe dreams and not even possible with Android OS. But it seems to me that if someone is willing to dig deep enough into the code, I'm sure it could be done. Or Google themselves could possibly pick up on this and do it.
please delete it. thanks.

Hi Guys
Apologies if this has been asked before but the search feature doesn't seem to be working.
Got my S4 a few days ago and loving it, but there is one thing that has been annoying me.
If i set up any sort of security lock on the lock screen I am unable to add widgets. It only seems to work when you have swipe set as your unlock option. I was able to add widgets just fine on my S2 running jellybean with a pattern lock.
Does anyone know a way around this? On the S2 jellybean you had an option to show the normal swipe lock screen before the security lock screen. Hopefully this will be something they will add in a coming update because it really was a great option.
Would like to know if this is happening for other people, if anyone has got around it or if any one has any alternatives that I could try
Its done as a security feature. Its not very secure having a PIN to unlock your device yet have widgets for email, Twitter etc accessible from the lock screen.
I'd like to be able to access the camera from the lock screen too, but unfortunately no luck.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh yes.........but we are on Android, not Apple, where the consumer would like to make this choice!

What you're saying is not true. On vanilla jellybean on the nexus 7, you choose the widgets that you want accessible from the lock screen. Even with security on.
