Hello all!
I have the following current set-up:
GT-I9505
Droid: 4.2.2
Baseband: I9505XXUAMDM
Kernel: 3.4.0-526204, [email protected] 1
Recovery: pHILZ
So I have just powered into Philz and selected to a backup and here my questions begin:
Where is the backup located ?
Should I also leave it on the phone (takes up just under 2gb) ?
What custom rom is the best (state your reasons) ?
My device just told me there is an update avalible, however I can't get it due to being on a modified phone Any ideas?
What can be safely removed from the apps (Samsung stuff, google play books etc?)
Thanks guys
The backup should be somewhere in external SDCard (I don't use Philz recovery)
Should I also leave it on the phone (takes up just under 2gb) ?

Definitively yes, so you have it ready if you mess up with something on your phone and you are far from a computer.
I make frequent backups, and I delete the previous one once the new one is finished.

Just try some of the available ones and see which one suits you best.
Such question is forbidden on XDA.
As for the official updates, you can't apply them to your device since you flashed things on it. You have to revert back to official firmware and erase the flash counter. Or wait for the official firmware to be used in a custom flashable ROM...
Answers to all of your questions are easily found by searching.

I was asking people personal opinion, You should know that this forum is a mess and it's not that easy to find answers to some questions, also like I say this was asking peoples personal opinions, Don't surf the Q & A section if you have no intent on helping The amount of keyboard warriors that just post "Use the search" to boost there post count is untrue!
I tried searching but didn't get the answers I needed, I understand some people just post without searching, but I assure you thats not the case here

Ok no worries thanks for the reply, I am gonna give Cyanogen a shot and see how it feels
I did flash it with official fw, or so I thought I did, I used the FW in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
Is that not official?
Once again, Thanks for the reply.

It is official, but you have to get your official status back and reset flashing counter (step 3 of the guide you followed : "If you want, after rooting with odin, to get official status and reset binary counter ON I9505 for warranty reason, do it before flashing stock firmware, refer to this link").
Thanks XS_31 I will take a look at that now.

Hi,
I've seen that the recommended way to root the 9500 is to flash the Adam kernel, then install CWM to get the SU application only properly and working. Once CWM is on the phone, is it possible to restore the original kernel and still keep root? I'd like to be able to keep the ability to get OTA updates and stay as close to stock as possible (apart from root of course!).
Regards,
Ian

Chainfire root method is available u can use that below is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292615
[GT-I9500] CF-Auto-Root
I guess u need to have root to make CWM work
Also if u want to have OTA I guess u can try installing pre rooted firmware available some where in this forum itself

Thanks for that, I'll try it tonight when I get time.
Can you point me to pre-rooted firmware in this forum? I looked at every thread in the Dev and Original Dev forums and all of them seem customised in some way. All I want at the end of this process (if possible) is a stock, rooted phone. Maybe that might be a better way to go - I'll decide tonight - but I have to find the link first!

Ian

Everyone here must be knowing that 4.3 has been leaked for Note2 few days ago.
But I guess everyone didn't upgraded to 4.3 yet because of less info, proper guide or maybe efs issue..So I made this guide explaining each n everything regarding 4.3 you need to know.
Below mentioned are the things explained-
1-Basic info of 4.3 ROM
2-How to root
3-MODs
4-ROMs
5.Reset flash counter
6.How to downgrade
7.Get rid of knox security
Basic Info
Android 4.3 for Note2 is a leaked ROM..so don't expect that it has S4 or Note3 features..But it will be available for sure once its officially rolled out.
So what does this ROM actually is?
1.This is just a 4.3 rom with no new added features or apps..I heard its slightly better than MG1 in terms of battery and performance.
2.It comes with new security feature called "knox security"(for more info regarding knox, google it)
3.It will mount sdcard as 0.This means that all ur data will not be shown in file explorer,u need to manually move it to media/0 folder.
How to Root
Most of the custom rom based on 4.3 fw are pre-rooted.So no need to root them. But for info, follow this-
1.Flash Philz recoveryHere
2.Flash SuperSu1.65 (older won't work)Get it here [thanks to @dr.ketan for this]
MODS
Follow dr.ketan's well explained guide below-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467009
ROMS
1.Pre-rooted rom (thanks to @dr.ketan)
2.Thunder KitKat Touchwiz 4.3
3.WanamLite
4.AngryRivelation
Reset flash counter
-Download Stock Recovery
and copy to SD card Int/Ext
-Flash and reboot
-Use Triangle away 3.05 to reset counter. (again thanks to @dr.ketan)
Downgrading to 4.1.2
No issue in downgrade.
-Leaked 4.3 installed and rooted -> unrooted from SU -> rooted with prerooted ->No issue -> downgraded to MG1 (I had to wipe after downgrade, but no other issue) -> again flashed prerooted
So i have tested for both downgrading as well prerooted have no issue in root.
(copy-pasted from doc's guide)
OR
U can easily restore your nandroid backup of 4.1.2 rom directly from 4.3..if there's imei issue, flash 4.3 modem..it should fix the problem
Getting rid of knox security
Since KNOX is on this leaked firmware;
ROOT your N7100
Download ES FILE EXPLORER
Set root access in this app.
Goto system/app folder, and press search
Type Knox
Rename the Knox .apk files into .apk.bak
Reboot and Knox is killed (thanks to @rayblo for this)
OR
Open titanium backup app
search "knox" in search box and freeze all knox apps..(my own discovery)
Note-
I made this guide after reading all threads regarding 4.3 and then published it..I just compiled each one of them and assembled guide and info here..If I am wrong somewhere kindly PM me and i'll fix it.or u can comment below with your suggestions, things to be added, corrections etc. Please do not post nasty comments if i'm wrong somewhere..instead help me make this better by giving suggestions
More stuff will be added when something new arrives or some kind member helps me out

My pleasure
Don't Link prerooted ROM directly, instead link to thread so user can get support.
I find it difficult to trust something when even the thread topic is misspelled!

Simply why you are not using your brain rather making copy paste.
-Downgrading method you have described is basically My answer to how i have tested prerooted ROM, all these is not required to do, and any newbie will follow this and end with mess up.
-How to flash recovery after copying to SD card ?

Hi to everyone. I'm sorry, probably this question has been asked lots of times, but I'm not expert in flashing devices, roms, etc.
I've a Branded Galaxy Y which code is GT-S5369 (instead of 5360), and I would like to know: Are the firmwares in this forum compatible also with my phone? And do I have to do any specific procedure in order to install a Custom ROM, or does it work in the same way of non-branded ones? That's the ROM I want to install: http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1757125&page=264 .
Thank you :fingers-crossed:
you can only try it - unless someone has that device you probably wont get an answer
take note of your stock rom baseband in case you need to flash stock rom via odin
I had a look and your stock rom is probably S5369BULL1 or something like that - check about phone in phone settings
you can download that stock rom firmware from sammobile.com/firmwares but you will need to split it with the splitter tool to be able to flash it via odin
the link to the splitter tool is on dokys thread at the top of the dev section for odin firmwares

Thank you for the reply. My stock rom is the one you said, I've downloaded it from sammobile I've read in other websites that it is necessary to de-brand the phone installing the GT-S5360 stock rom XXKL3; is it actually the best way to do it? Sorry for the questions but I want to be sure of what I'm doing.

Debrand basically means to remove all bloat apps that providers bundle with the phone that are really of no use
I use xxlk3 as it's one of the latest UK firmware
Make sure you make a nandroid backup in cwm before you flash anything - you can then restore your phone back to it's previous state if necessary by restoring the backup in cwm

Well, as I understood, debrand is not an important thing for installing Custom ROMs.
Anyway, I succeeded to install the Evo-X 4.2.0 rom, just unlocking the root, putting the file into the SD and applying it via CWM. Nothing simpler than that. Thank you for the kindness, there was not any problem with it

Custom Roms should be pre-rooted no need to root again unless you have problems
Enjoy
I think they are compatible

Hi XDA society and devs.
So I've moved to an S4 and I've already rooted it.
Sadly, KNOX figured it out so I'm at 0x1, however, this isn't an issue, I believe KNOX is only important for warranty purposes?
But anyway, I have rooted and installed custom recovery but what I want to ask is how will I go about installing this specific rom on my I9505?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283194
I'm really confused as to what I'm supposed to do, my BUILD number ends in FNB8 and this rom requires NGE8, so is it safe for me to install it without that number?
Do I need to do anything extra to install this rom or can I just move it directly to my storage and install it?
On WanamLites website, it says that the modem and the bootloader for NGE8 is optional?
So does that mean, I don't need to do any ODIN flashes before and after installing this rom?
MY main question is, I have a I9505, rooted and TWRP, can I install this rom straight away?
I appreciate any help, I'm fairly new to this phone and I have done a bit of research but I'm still a little confused.
Thanks to anyone that can provide me with an explanation and perhaps a brief guide. <3
Long Live, XDA.
It does not matter what version you have on your phone (eg FNB8/NGE8), so you can ignore that completely.
The bootloader and modem are for people that still have the old bootloader installed. You don't have that because you have KNOX. So you can also ignore that part.
Just flash away. The instructions are in the first post of that thread.

Your welcome.
I read that Wanam just updated the rom, but some people claim that it still has some bugs. Use the 2.6 version instead of the 2.7 untill everything is sorted out.
Hi all,
I have an LDU (Live Demo Unit) of an S6 EDGE+ How can I remove Retail Mode and flash a stock ROM so I can use the device as a tablet?
Many thanks
It's a SM-928X model by the way running 5.1.1 build LMY47X.G928XXXU2APC1_LLK
Hope this helps

Please have a read of these forums before posting questions like this. It is detailed many times, there are many tutorials on how to do this. No it is not straightforward if you do not know what your doing, and since you are posting questions like this i'd be hesitant to advice you to continue

Not really, you should have flashed a custom recovery before rooting. Formatting the system is just bad advice fullstop.
As i said before, there are many tutorials on this, but the general method is unlock bootloader (through developer options), flash custom recovery (through odin, note that this will trip knox counter), use custom recovery to install custom ROM and/or kernal, which in 9/10 cases includes root.
Personally i've never played with a LDU so im not sure on how/if you can unlock bootloader easily
