Nexus 7 LTE factory image - Nexus 7 (2013) General

when i unlock and root my device (Nexus 7 with LTE) how can i get back to unroot and lock
will be a factory image next time

You don't need an image to lock the device. If you want to go back to stock unrooted, you can fastboot boot recovery and then backup all partitions prior to rooting it after the unlock. Then you can do a regular fastboot flash to flash recovery and flash the superuser zip. Or wait for a factory image as I think one will be along eventually.

Easiest way is to:
fastboot OEM lock
fastboot OEM unlock
fastboot OEM lock
Unlocking will wipe all data, including root so you'll be stock. Then relock the bootloader.

how long can it take for a factory image.

Nope. Unlocking does not touch root. Root is in the system partition and most people with root have a custom recovery. Unlocking only does a true factory reset (wipe the data and cache partition which includes sdcard). This won't work to remove root.

It could be a couple weeks from when the device was released based on how long the WiFi version took.

does flashing stock rom remove root or re-lock bootloader?

as topic states....i want to flash store rom to make sure everything is deleted since settings factory reset did not do so. however, i want the bootloader to stay unlock and phone to retain root. thanks in advance!:victory:
Boot loader will stay unlocked, root will be deleted if you're wiping /system.

There is an app that will save your root.. It is voodoo something.. Will find it and tell you..
Voodoo ota root protector - search the play store.

If you flash factory image via fast boot you will lose root and custom kernel. Boot loader will stay open until you lock it again using toolkit or from factory image command via fast boot.

Don't bother locking your bootloader. You'll just have to wipe everything the next time you go to root the phone or flash anything

As that's what you've recommended, I'll just try and do it that way. Hopefully this works, the person who is selling it to me says that his friend rooted the phone for him but he can't put it back for me but his offering a good price about £200. So I'll buy it and use this fastboot with the Factory Image "occam" for Nexus 4 4.2.2 (JDQ39) and hopfully, it should be back to normal again. I want the phones software to be just as it came out of the box. Will I need to do anything else?
Also, could you explain to me what the 'radio' is please? Never heard of this, I suppose the 'flash' is the image that I download from here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images, then what is 'radio?
5) Flash the bootloader: fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-mako-makoz10o.img (or whatever the name of the bootloader image that you downloaded).
7) Flash the radio: fastboot flash radio radio-mako-m9615a-cefwmazm-2.0.1700.48.img (or whatever the name is of the radio image that you downloaded).

Once you unzip all the .zips in the factory image that you download you will see all the .IMG files. You will have system.img, radio.img, userdata.img and your boot.img and bootloader.img. Just do exactly what the instructions say and you will see that it is very easy. And its better to learn how to do this on your own and not use a tool kit.

Thanks mate, I'll try and take extra care and read n follow carefully, don't want to mess up here. After I have unrooted my Nexus 4, what else will I need to do to make as if it came out of the new box in terms of software ect..?
You will probably have to re install the google applications you would like; but besides those you will not need to install any additional software/apps.

Any idea which Google applications these maybe?
Chrome hopefully comes preinstalled after this unrooting process, I'm assuming the same with Google Now. It's just a case of unrooting and using the image from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occam then locking the bootloader?
Does anyone know why there is only 1 image for this phone? Usually you have many others for all networks, like T-Mobile UK ect..
After you flash the factory image, the phone will be just as it would be if you bought it from Google play. All of the Google apps will be on the phone at start up.
Once you are finished flashing the phone back to stock, reboot back into the bootloader and type, "fastboot oem lock" to re-lock the bootloader. There really is no reason to relock the bootloader. As long as you have the stock recovery, you will receive ota updates from Google.

The last part confused me, as long as I have the 'stock recovery'? That means as long as I have flashed to the factory image downloaded from Google I will receive updates from Google?
Are there any advantages/disadvantages in performance and other things from locking/not locking the bootloader? I will be keeping the original software and won't be installing custom roms ect.. just installing updates for android from Google and that's it.

The only thing is that if one day you decide that you want to root, you will have to re-unlock the bootloader and this will wipe all data on your phone. But if you never plan to root then you can lock it

And when the phone comes brand new from Google, the bootloader comes locked, right? I think I might just lock it, I will need to wipe this phone anyway.
Yes, when you get the phone new the bootloader is locked. There will be no performance loss or gain from having the bootloader locked or unlocked.
Do you have fast boot and adb set up on your computer?

After youve unlocked it to root. So you still lose your data the first time you unlock it.
In thread in my country , I saw tut for unlock boot loader without lose data in first time In nexus 10 I think in nexus 7 2013 work too but I did not test it yet.
the method is

Save to sdcard
3. Boot to bootloader and use command

yep, I installed it too...
however one important thing you should not forget (copy/past from a review) :
"Works great but be careful Once you have unlocked and rooted your phone this app works great to lock the bootloader again. But use caution when updating OTA. I allowed an OTA update to Android 4.4.2 while locked and I lost root access (expected) but because I didn't unlock before the update, I am now locked without a way to unlock unless I wipe the phone. Great app. Just make sure you know what it does and how to use it."
--> unlock before to apply an OTA

Fresh install 5.0.1

I am getting a few issues with 5.0.1 such as lost data connection and the dialer dropping calls. I have had this device since 4.4 so many OTA's so would like to do a complete fresh install. Should I download the factory image and use the flash-all command in adb? Will this erase all data, which is what I want, replace all radios etc.

Yes, the flash-all.bat will do what you want. Just boot into the bootloader and with your device connected to the pc double click the flash all

No, you do not need the stock recovery to flash a factory image. You'll end up with when you flash

I just flashed 5.0.1 with flash-all.bat and it is working fine. Yep, you will get the stock recovery if you update your n4 this way. By the way if you remove "-w" from flash-all.bat your device won't be wiped.

How do I update to M build without factory reset

Hello,
This is probably a noob question & I tried to research around myself. I've always rely on someone making a flashable stock rom for every update. I usually keep my phone rooted but run on stock rom with xposed. There's hasn't been a stock rom for m build published. Could anyone share the appropriate adb manual update instructions without factory resetting my phone? Thanks in advance.

Using the flash-all batch file in the factory images will wipe the device, but you can do it manually without wiping.
Do I need to flash everything if I want to keep root? Or can I skip bootloader, recovery, and boot image files since the k build boot image works with m build?

As I said, you need to flash everything except for recovery, boot, and userdata. Just follow the usual process to root the updated build.
