How could I edit the install script to echo the results of the set_perm commands to determine which one is failing?
Figured i should update this:
The problem was CWM 6.0.4.7 installed by FreeGee. I am now using TWRP 2.7.0.0 with no issues.

error executing updater binary in zip

hi,
i've just made a rooted, debloated stock rom with android kitchen.
when i try to flash it i get this error "E: error executing updater binary in zip"
ive tried TWRP recovery, versions 2.8.5.0 and 2.8.1 & Philz recovery.
any idea??
i can flash any other rom fine
Take the entire meta-inf folder from the original rom you started with, if you have it. I ran into the same problem the other day. It worked for me.

Can't flash files on my backup Defy

I just tried to upgrade my backup Defy from 2.3 to CM11. I rooted it, installed 2ndInit and from there I'm trying to flash all the zips from Quarx' CM11 thread. The problem is it throws an error at the first one:
Code:
E:Error in /sdcard/cm11/new_bootstrap.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
Did I miss a step?

Try with latest 3.2 blue spark or ibe recovery..
Hope you are installing on OnePlus 5 and not 5T.
Clear Dalvik Cache and Cache before installing the Rom.
I had the same problem,
Format data first
Then flash rom
I already formated data and i was didn't able to boot after install. How much time do the system spend to boot after install?
Use stock recovery or delete the assert command from the update_script of the zip.
I've resolved the same problem simply formatting system first.. It cant flash (idk why) the rom if system is not formatted (on twrp of course)
Use the latest TWRP from their official site. This solved the same problem for me.
