I just got a Nexus 4 which is nice but I'm having some issue with fonts in the Chrome browser when reading forums. Basically some posts will have the font size quite large/normal but then the next post will have the font size tiny making it unreadable.
At the moment I'm completely stock, only upgraded to 4.3 and not even rooted yet.
I really like Chrome in all other respects but this issue is making it unusable for me. I'm wondering if installing a custom rom might solve the issue as some are reporting this happens and some are not. Apparently this issue didn't exist in v18 but we are now up to v29 in Chrome.
This problem happens on xda (the website version) too. If you can tell me if this happens to you or jot and if it doesn't then what rom/configuration you're running it would be much appreciated.
This happens to me as well.
Even stranger though, whilst on the XDA web page, when I try to scroll/zoom in, the page just keeps reloading constantly and this only happens on the XDA forum no other web pages.
Hence why I'm now using the xda app

Shame the XDA app forces closed on Xoom... does anyone have a workaround?

this is a known issue and hopefully someone is working on it.
Tapatalk is basically the same app and works fine
i have the same and I paid for the app.......is anybody actively fixing this?
I have been using the XDA app since day 1. The only thing I have found I have to do is exit fully when done. I.e. I hit the back button till the app closes. If I leave it open for any significant time in the background it either gets stuck on the splash or whatever page I was on last. At that stage I force close and reopen it.

for some unknown reason the app works fine on the verizon xoom, but FCs for wifi-only; someone reported the same problem on the wifi-only transformer, so its got something to do with honeycomb without mobile data (some kind of id# or something?)

Wow. Really? So THAT'S why it crashes on tablets? I had always assumed it had something to do with the resolution being much higher than on a phone, but since you say the Verizon XOOM works, that blows that theory out of the water... I am going to see if my superiors have any idea why this is happening or if they can contact Tapatalk to fix the problem.
Fyi this problem does not exist on tapatalk.. has to do with something xda does differently

I have the Verizon xoom as well and I never had a force close. It does act weird sometimes, but it does on my nexus one as well.

Also goes along with what I've heard in the past... From what I've read, Tapatalk's standard client used to have this issue, but then it was fixed. Perhaps the XDA app can be rebased to the newer Tapatalk.
I have had no FC's on my WiFi only Canadian MZ604.
What I do have, though, is a weird scrolling issue on certain threads where the text will copy itself onto every pixel it crosses until I stop scrolling and the screen refreshes.
I did note that it seems to happen mostly with hyperlinked text. Another possibility is text that has had it's color changed. Will have to play around with it some more to confirm this.
i just use the browser now. Its no big deal with the bigger screen.
It would FC on my Nook Color as well, which is wifi only. I was hoping for a better experience once I got my Xoom wifi (I also got the paid app) but it behaves exactly the same: as soon as I log in it FCs.

This happens to me on both xda and tapatalk, I think its a combo of hyperlinks and long texts... weird thing is, it happens in quoted text too, but not in the post that quotes the text

This mirrors my experience as well. Zero FCs since day one but do see the scrolling issues.

I would agree with you, but vBulletin forums (like XDA) are unacceptably laggy in typing posts on the Xoom.
That, and it's good to have options.

Just get tapatalk pro. It works on wifi only, just get some weird text drag when scrolling long posts. Plus you can access any other native forum you like. I have the xda prem app on my hd2 to support xda and tapatalk on my xoom

I hate how it ALWAYS refreshes. Every time I leave the app then come right back to it, it just refreshes everything. Ugh.
I fap to the porn forums on Tapatalk 2
I haven't really noticed. The lag when it accessing the bookmarks is painful though...
Yup really annoys me. Especially when you go to type something in and it refreshes and doesn't include what you just typed.

Chrome sucks. Get xscope 7. It is what chrome should have been
Even when going back to a previous viewed page in chrome it refreshes. Very annoying and totally kills the browsing experience.

I use to love Xscope (Amazon free app). Decided to buy it since it is now JB which Amazon won't upgrade to. It's real nice UI... but still isn't as good as it is on my Galaxy Player (GB). On my Player ANY mobile site will pinch zoom. On the N7, no mobile site seems to pinch zoom. This means "text" and "zoom" levels have to be "perfect" and changed quite often (since all sites seem to have different text sizes). I may start using Desktop mode, but I really like many mobile sites. Chrome works great. I was hoping the updated Xscope would be its replacement. Good thing it was $3 of my free $25!
PS: I never noticed a refresh in Chrome.

the android(aosp) browser, not chrome, doesnt refresh. and plays flash just fine, btw.
I've noticed that when I open several links in other tabs, when I get to the tabs they are blank and load or refresh the page once I switch to the tab.
I am not having this problem, in fact I was just viewing three pages simultaneously (switching between them) while on Skype and no reloading :S and while typing this I switched over to chrome and all 3 tabs still loaded.. :/

That's pretty good - posting while dead.
If you insist on staying unrooted, then your only option is to install a different browser from the Google Play store
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=web+browser&c=apps
Getting just the .apk file for the AOSP stock browser and side-loading it won't work - the pre-installed BrowserProviderProxy.{apk, odex} applications in the stock ROM will prevent it from working correctly.
FWIW, the AOSP browser only "kinda" works even on a stock ROM (even when BrowserProviderProxy.{apk, odex} have been removed from /system/app) - it freezes quite a lot - especially when browsing XDA ... LOL
But I know where you are coming from - Chrome really needs to be able to do text reflow on a 7" tablet (and IMO the bookmark thumbnails are much nicer in the AOSP browser too).
I seem to have an issue an I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem or knows a fix. Basically the stock browser keeps hanging while loading Web pages. It seems to wait a bit longer than normal before loading pages more often than not. It happens both on wifi an hsdpa. I've noticed chrome doesn't have the issue at al. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Slightly off topic but how the heck do you do a rollover on a button? In any browser? I like the stock browser but I hate having to long press on a button then hit back on the soft key to get it to work! I'm no iFan but I do have to commend apple on getting that one thing right. Why does it take these android devs so long to figure this out lol.
I think the main issue is with android fragmentation, where as Apple only have their iDevices.. Gives them more control.
Op I get my note 3 later, will test it out and try a few solutions.. Hopefully there's a silly fix somewhere as I was planning on using stock browser as it's always performed well!! Have you tried dolphin? That's a quick snappy browser imo.

Played with he browser for the past half hour... Everything is fluid, fast, no delays... Smooth as butter. Very impressed!! Especially the new look for tab switching.
Are you still experiencing or has it sorted itself out?

Is there a way to save pages for offline reading? This feature was in Note 2's stock browser.
Also, is there a way to sync desktop browser bookmarks like on Chrome? Thx.

I've been playing with the stock browser for the last day or so since getting this phone. Super smooth and fast. No hiccups or laggy periods. And I also agree the new tab switching is nice compared to older versions I've used (I came from a note 1). The only gripe I have is that you can't seem to load new tabs in background. Now, every time I open a new tab, it loads upon top. Irritating, although I'll have to get used to it.

What about kinetic scrolling? Is it as responsive as note 2? Also I am experiencing this annoying issue when I click on a picture on facebook mobile website it is displayed in very small size. Chrome does not have this issue neither does the stock browser on note 2

Also something that anoyes me a lot in the note 3 is the auto fit pages.. It seems to have disappeared even in chrome. Really a bummer .. With this gorgeous screen you are left out with pages that you have to slide from side to side to be able to read a zoomed page :banghead:

Step away from the Stock Browser would be my suggestion. Ive been using Chrome and havent had any issues. There are other browsers that have been tested and proved great performance

Hi there folks .. been using the Nexus 10 for the past few days. All stock settings with minor apps installed. But I noticed a few times on random basis the machine just restarts by itself. All restart happened when I was browsing on Chrome. Latest was just this morning I was reviewing some sites on the comparison of browsers from different source and suddenly just restarted for no apparent reason.
No big deal for me but don't feel nice. Any way to check or find out what's causing it to restart and how to stop it??
Chrome has never played nice with my tablet...I would highly suggest using a different browser
I only have random reboots in Chrome now. I think its memory-related, but not sure
4.3 fixed the memory leak related reboots.

Thanks .. I'm already running 4.3 on my Nexus 10. I just needed to ensure this is really Chrome problem. I could install other browsers to try. Please share if others are also experiencing the same problem.
