Hi,
Look HERE
Try PhilZ recovery.
Make sure you choose the correct variant of the phone.
Use the "Clean phone for new ROM "option.
If it fails ,try again from scratch.
Sometimes it takes a few goes.

Hey I've tried this 10 times but it didn't work .
Hi, try downloading the ROM onto your internal storage and flashing that way. If it works, then you may have a problem with your sd card

I mean make a folder on your internal storage called 'ROMS' or whatever
Download your ROM on your computer and using your preferred file explorer, transfer the zip into the ROMS folder you made earlier in your internal storage.
Boot into recovery and Factory Reset, then flash zip from your internal storage.
If this works, then you may have a problem with your external sd card

Hello,
So I realize their are opther post similar to this one, but nothing that fits my symptoms. I have a Xoom WiFi, rooted, with Tiamat Kernel 2.1.0 (Tachi). So far I have unable to get the ROM Manager or Recovery Mode to mount my SD Card.
When I reboot into Recovery Mode I get an error that says "E: unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]". I tried many different things to resolve this, including trying to use the option to format the SD Card. I have tried 2 SD Cards, a 4GB and a 32GB. Both cards work in the Xoom in regular mode, just not in Recovery Mode.
When I tried to format them with Recovery Mode, after I selected my options, it said "Waiting to Mount SD Card", it failed and rebooted.
So now I don't believe there is a problem with the formatting, just a problem with the mounting.
Is there something simple I am missing. If I can't get this working, I will not be able to transfer files to the Xoom if I screw something up, so I don't wont to go any further until I get this resolved.
Any help for the Noob. Thanks

What version of clockworkmod recovery are you using? Version 4.0.0.4 does not recognize the external sd card. If you are attempting to boot into recovery through rom manager it probably 'updated' your recovery to the 4.x version. If you want to be able to access your micro sdcard in recovery, you need to flash the solarnz CWM 3.2.0.0 R4c recovery from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979.
Thank you for the quick reply. I think I had just found that posted elsewhere too. Its good to know its not a problem with my system, but why was hat feature removed. Just obsolete?
And Yes, it is 4.0.0.4.
Thanks Again

Just a follow-up question. If I can't mount the SD Card within thsat version of Recovery, how are you supposed to transfer files onto the Xoom if you are trying to fix a screw and the system won't boot?
If I plug the Xoom into my computers USB while in Recover Mode, it mounts the Xooms drive, but won't allow me to access it. Am I supposed to be able to make that happen?

I think it is for phones that have only one sdcard (external) and only a really small amount of internal storage. Tablets have an internal sdcard and this is whhat version 4.x reads and writes to. In addition, some tablets, like Xoom have an external sdcard and therefore require a custom recovery to take advantage of it.
There is also a newer recovery based on the cwm 4... series that is built specifically for the xoom/honeycomb' and that does read the sd... I've found it much more user-friendly... search for rogue recovery, you won't br disappointed
Re: rom manager, my recommendation is to uninstall it... seems to cause more probs than it is worth, and with the new roms' automation of boot into recovery and the ease os use of rogue recovery, there really isn't a need for it.
Very nice. Now I think I understand, and I have already switched over to the Rogue Recovery and it is working great. I like the ability to mount the SD card or switch to the internal storage. Now I feel better, and as someone else said, I do like seeing that Rogue graphic on my zoom!
Thanks again for the help!

@hchxoom--You are right and that version may be a good option, but it seems the problem right now is that he can't boot into the os, can't access the external sdcard with flashable files and maybe a nandroid backup and the Xoom can't be accessed via adb/fastboot...
@krpto1973--Is this right? I'm a bit unclear about your current state.
Oh sorry, no. I saw that situation you described and was worried about doing anything further if I couldn't mount the SD Card. So I wanted to find a way to mount it in recovery so that i could feel more comfortable messing around. I am not as familiar with ADB commands as I should be, so I also wanted the SD Card option.
But thank you again for the quick response! you guys rock!

Find a stock 3.1 ROM ( so you can root) here, and flash it using power/volume.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878
When I say there are no files I literally mean that there in nothing on the internal drive. lol
When I click "install zip from sdcard" it tells me there are no files found. nothing in the "/" (root dir) :'(
I'm assuming there needs to be at least a folder like "/mnt/external_sd" for the Recovery Mod to access the external sd card?!
The above link requires me to access the official acer recov, don't know how to do that seeing as CWM is there.
I don't understand why they would put options in the Clockwork Recovery that could format the internal drive completely...there's no "/mnt" or "/system" or anything...
Kinda sh**ting myself as my tab is now less than a doorstop
PS. it also says "can't mount /sdcard"
HAHA.....ok, jokes on me....I just noticed that the reason for the device not picking any files up from the "sdcard" was because the damn thing formatted my EXTERNAL CARD.
So, kids...what have we learned today, beside that I'm (in the great words of Red Foreman) a dumb-ass, it's that CWM read from your EXTERNAL sdcard and NOT, i repeat, NOT your internal.
Sorry, and thanks anyway
Ummm yeah, I assumed you had no files, even before you apparently knew it. That's why I provided the link for you to d/l the stock ROM of your choice via PC, copy the files to SD card and flash using stock recovery

This is pretty common knowledge...
Never had the problem before, so I forgot, you ever forget, well, I forgot.
Thanks anywho
We all do stuff like that from time to time as we are only human. I seen people not unmount the sd card and it make the card unreadable and you can't get the files off of it then. You have that grayed out sd card, when you try to use it.
Ok lets start from the beginning:
I was trying to upade from 2.2.2 official to 2.3 official and now i'm messed up because after the step : "upgrade sd card" my phone restarted and my usb cabel was still on and phone started charging, after that i tried to turn on my phone. It worked but after 20secs my screens freezes and cant do anything even turn off i need to take battery out, also phone not detects my sim card...
Any idea? My phone is rooted, have installed CWM5.0.2.3,but have no backup only public one...But i can't mount usb storage because i get error like "E:Unable to open ums lunfile(no such file or directory)
ANY IDEAS????
I can get to pinkscreen aswell
If you have an external sd card put the public backup there and try to restore via cwm (if you get boot till there). You can also try the update procedure(the dload folder and stuff) but put them in the external sd card! The phone should boot from there.
Anyway, better wait for more answers since I'm not the best in here.I just know how to flash some custom roms.

sorry for dumb question but microsd = external sd? if yes - then i placed the backup in the card but in cwm only phone memory shows no sdcard...
Edit: external i got that
well it actually is an external microsd card
did you manage to restore via cwm?
P.S. if cwm doesn't see your se card go to advaced->reboot into recovery
should be able to see it now

When i do "reboot into recovery" my phone double restarts and 2nd time it turns on normally not into recovery...
Don't know why this is done, but I think we should be happy that your phone isn't bricked
Maybe someone else here can help you and provide better solutions than mine
Have a read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639761.
Has a link in it to how I solved my issue of constant reboots.
Also , since you can load pink screen, you can connect through usb and change your recovery to 5.0.2.7. That's the one i used. Make sure that you have a cust.img file in the "image" folder. That is where the recovery should be too but am guessing you already know that.
If for some reason you dont have cust.img you can find and download a generic version in these forums. Did not need it so I did not bookmark the post I found it in but I think it was the Kalo's Honor Port thread in the pro development section.
Hi there,
I'm following this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334
The problem is that the phone wont detect the external SD in the clockwork recovery, so i made the wipe trough the internal SD.
It wiped everything, no problem.
The problem is that i cant mount the internal SD so i can place the zip and install it...
Ho should i proceed???
Thank you.
What filesystem is your sdcard formatted to? FAT32 works best for daily use.
Yes, it is on FAT32, but the phone wont mount it on the clockwork mode.
Worst, it wont connect no the computer, and i have no ROM on it...

What recovery are you using? I use CWM touch 6.0.1.2.
Have you tried sending over a rom with adb? If you have adb working, you open up cdm and navigate to where you have the adb files and write: adb push path-to-rom /data/media/
Flash a stock Rom with Odin and re- root

I had the same problem. I have the solution now.
The problem is cwm 6.0.1.2 - it does not recognise the external sd card and you are unable to backup to it as a result.
I have just reflashed cmw 5.8.4.0 through cf root 6.1 and everything is fine.
I now have a full backup (1.8GB) on my external SD card - which I checked by resetting and restoring.
The problem is not the phone, rom or card - it is CWM and you need to flash an earlier one that works via Odin. Hope this helps
The big problem is that the internal SD card wont mount on the computer, so, how can i put a stock rom in there?
I'm completely lost...
I have odin on the computer, how can i donwload the CWM 5 trough it?
Or the custom rom?
so you have 2 problems? phone doesn't detect external card and pc doesn't detect phone? please clarify
Yes, i have said that on the first post.
I have now the CWM 5.5.0.4, and it wont mount any sdcard, and the PC still wont recognize it...
does Odin recognize your phone in download mode?
Yes.
Having only the internal SD card, it says error mounting SD card...

the 2 problems are unrelated. Your PCs failure to recognise your phone is to do with drivers - you can try reinstalling Kies.
I suggest you sort that out first so that you can flash your phone via Odin.
well if Odin recognizes it, why don't you just flash a stock Rom?
The PC stooped recognizing the phone after i made the wipe.
Since it wiped the stock ROM, i have no phone, it wont mount the external SD, and it gives error mouting the internal SD.
How can i solve this?
I'll let you sort him out slaphead...I'll butt out cos I think we are getting mixed messages regarding the problem here, best of British....
There are no mixed messages, i have 2 problems.
I have already ignored the fact the the recovery wont mount the external SD card.
I want your help so i can at least transfer the custom ROM to the internal SD.

it seems he has possibly super wipes before installing and didn't put a zip to install on his ext sd card? Is that your line of thinking, because he isn't being very clear, but feel free to butt in, I'm not entirely sure where his problem starts at this very moment!
It was exactly that, i have used the Super Wipe from the internal SD.
I know i should have used the external, but it wouldn't work...
You know how to solve this?
Thanks in advance.

Yes! If Odin recognizes your phone in download mode then flash a stock Rom, re root with cf root, boot up and set up, copy zip to sd card, and flash it, you will be on a clean install any way, so no need to use that POS superwipe, so just follow the Rom installation instructions, and you will have the benefit of knowing you are running a nice clean install, then you can just reinstall all your stuff with titanium or whatever
---------- Post added at 09:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:43 PM ----------
add to that, before installing the Rom, format your external sd on the phone, and make sure it mounts and unmounts in settings, but anyway, doing it the way I mentioned you can flash from internal sd

you can try flashing any of the firmwares from my firmware thread via odin (its at the top of the 5360 dev section)
have you tried another sd card?
is the sd card mountable when the phone is switched on? ie can you browse files on it
if all else failes and flashing a new stock rom firmware from my thread doesnt help you can always try formatting the sd card from your phone
