Hello Everyone
I recently bought a HTC HD2 phone off of ebay and it came with Android 2.3.1 with cyanogenmod 7 already installed. I wish to reset the phone to Windows mobile 6.5 and after reading on the internet that you should use the ROM Manager app on the Android phone, but when trying to install the ClockworkMod Recovery it says "An error occurred while flashing your recovery". Is there another way to flash Windows mobile 6.5 back on to the device?
Many Thanks
Saforax
Does your device have dual sim? I am just eliminating the chance of a fake device, that happens way too often. Especially when the device has android pre-installed.

It is not Dual Sim, it has no difference visually to that of the HD2 that I already own that the new one is meant to replace.
Thanks for the reply

Okay. Could you please turn off the device, then turn it on while holding the volume rocker down and tell me what the screen says? This is to confirm you have HSPL.
If the screen has "HSPL" in it, then you have HSPL. Now depending on your preference, do you want to keep or remove HSPL (restore device to complete stock)?
I suggest keeping it, as it doesn't bother. To flash back windows mobile, simply download a rom from htc website (are they still there?), connect your device while on the multicolour screen (volume down + boot) and finally run the .exe you downloaded.
If you can't find the ROMs on htc website, search for them here on xda, they are available as ruu. Download the HD2 toolkit (google it), and from the bottom choose "flash custom ruu" or something like that.
I hope all what I said was clear, I'm sleepy and not sure if it makes sense

I have the same problem, I have radio 2.10.50.26 but Im having some issues with WP7 restarting itself and no data connection, so I want to flash the 2.15 radio. I think I need be running WinMo to do this, but I have no idea how to flash back to a winmo rom from WP7. Help?
Simple,
Get to the tri color boot screen (vol down + power button)
Flash your win 6.5 ROM.
Hi, I am also trying to flash back to 6.5 from WM7. Could someone please give me some more details about how to flash back? I have the 6.5 rom on my PC and can get to the boot screen no problem but if I then try and install the old rom it fails as the PC doesn't detect the phone as being connected. Any help would be much appreciated, as although I love WM7 on my HD2 when it is working, it has a habit of randomly rebooting a lot! Thanks!

Just keep your phone unplugged and put it in bootloader mode. After a few seconds, the bottom part of the screen should say serial. Once it says that, plug it into your computer. Serial should change to USB in a second. If your computer doesnt have a driver for it yet, it should install that. Once its done, and once your phone says USB on the bottom of the bootloader screen, you should just be able to run the rom installer on your computer and install it. Good luck!
Thanks for you help, I managed that fine, though I had also wanted to remove the Hardspl I had used to add WM7. I have tried flashing the stock ROM back (via SD card and via USB) to overwrite it, however it fails to install correctly and the phone is being very unstable. Any suggestions!?
According to the thread I used to flash HSPL to my phone, you just make sure youre running a stock rom, then run the HSPL program like you did when you first put on HSPL, but choose 2.08.0000 in the selection screen.
That said, I havent removed HSPL so Im not entirely sure what to do if that doesnt work. If thats what you tried, Im not sure what to tell you
Have tried fiddling again and think I have done it! In the boot screen it now says SPL-2.08 (hopefully this is stock!?) and the phone seems to be behaving! Cheers for your assisstance
Yup, thats stock. No problem

You can changes Radio Roms as you wish under any OS. Just hold the Vol Down key when switching on to enter bootloader and flash via USB from there.

Hmmm I actually havent tried that yet, Ive done pretty much everything aside from reinstalling windows and stuff. I shut off my wireless during the process though because I turned off my antivirus and firewall. Hopefully that will work. WP7 is nice even without being activated, but it certainly doesnt come with many apps.
Hi,
I am planning to install/upgrade WP6.5 to WP7 on my HD2. What I would like to know is that If I am not happy with WP7 on H2 or somethings break after the upgrade, I would like to go back to WP6.5 that came pre-installed with the phone. How can I go about doing the same?
Can someone point me to some posts or exact steps on how to restore my phone to factory settings with WP6.5
Even though this very question was asked and answered like a gazillion times (please use the search function of the forum), here´s a short answer:
Yes, you can return to WinMo 6.5 very easily.
Just download the original ROM for your device from your provider (HTC or network operator ROM), go into bootloader mode (vol. down plus power), plug into your PC via USB and run the RUU.
Optional, you can select to flash via SD card.
You can find detailed tutorials, even with videos, in the stickies of the HD2 WinMo 6.5 ROM thread section.
When you have WP7 .. Hold the power button till you see goodbye, wait for it to completely turn off, Hold the Volume Down button and Press the Power button, you'll see Cotulla's HSPL, connect your phone to PC and wait for Serial to chango into USB, Run the RUU of the ROM of your liking

What a wonderfully witty and erudite post. I'm sure all of us here are delighted that the collective consciousness of XDA should be enriched in such a helpful manner.
Now that this matter has been decisively cleared up once and for all, I'm off to remove WP7 and put Android on.
As for the original thread, I really do struggle to believe that the OP couldn't have found this information within about 30 seconds of launching a search. I apologise (a bit) if this sounds tetchy, but not only is it a thread that didn't need to exist in the first place, it attracted the most pointless, off topic response of all time, above.
in his defence the search on this thing sucks, infact you get better results if you use google and include the words "XDA DEV" plus whatever your searching for
anyhow, whats not defendable is that thats all answered in the stickies
what you want is straight forward, but give WP a chance, give it a few days use and see how you get on, setup live or whatever you use and you might find yourself supprised. I was, and im gonna stay with it
Problem while installing WP7 on HD2
Hi,
I got these set of instructions on installing WP7 on HD2 -
1.Download the Windows Phone 7 ROM from the link given below and extract its contents to your computer.
2.Make sure that you have HARDSPL 2.08 installed as it is required before you can install MAGLDR in the next step. Also note that your radio needs to be 2.**.50.**. A recommended 2.15.50.14 radio can be found here.
3.Connect your HD2 to your computer via USB and run ‘ROMUpdateUtility.exe’ from the MAGLDR 1.2 folder at the location where you extracted the ROM in Step 1.
4.Follow the on-screen instructions to install MAGLDR on your HD2 and reboot your phone. Your phone will boot into MAGLDR now.
5.Navigate to the 5th option which says ‘USB Flasher’ using the volume-down key and press the green ‘call’ key to enter it.
6.Now run ‘DWI.exe’ from the folder where you extracted the ROM.
7.Read the information carefully and follow the on-screen instructions to flash the Windows Phone 7 ROM to your HD2.
8.Once the installation is complete, your phone will reboot into MAGDLR again. Use the volume-down button to the second option that says ‘Boot AD NAND’ and press the green ‘call’ button.
9.Your phone will now boot into the newly installed Windows Phone 7. The first boot may take a while. Follow the on-screen instructions to setup your Windows Phone 7 installation for the first time.
10.Follow this guide to get Live Services including Marketplace and XBox Live fully working on your device.
The 1st 3 steps worked fine but after executing the RomUpdateUtility.exe, the phone went into reboot mode but it hangs at the white screen where the htc logo appears in green. Its like this for the past 20-25mins.
I had SPL 1.42 installed and then installed the corresponding HSPL too. This worked fine but then it gets scrwed up
How can I go abnout restoring the phone to its default settings as it dosent detect under windows also

You're right man. It doesn't sound tetchy BTW.... The thing with android is battery life. It's not possible to get more than 24hrs idle with the new original stock battery I have. With Win7 it's more like 50+ hrs. And it's simple. But I can't get it activated at all with chevron.
In answer to OP's question, no, nothing is not working or slow in wp7. Only the hard keys are different. Takes a day of getting used to no Hard RED/GREEN.
Hey there sam,
I upgraded using the stock 1.66 rom (6.5), updates the radio (very important), then flashed magldr (v1.3 is out now so i would recommend you use that - resolves not being able to charge if battery dies).
Magldr not flashing is usually a radio issue, are you sure it flashed correctly?
What version of windows are you using on your pc?
CHow.

i use windows xp with SP3. will try the 1.66 ROM and new new MGDLR version
tried RUU_Leo_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.66.707.1_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship.exe and MAGDLR 1.12..
didnt work. Radio is at 2.15.50.14 and I have SPL-1.42.HSPL
Hello guys,
Before getting frustrated about just another noob; No, I know the stuff with the volume down button, but it doesn't work (anymore) for me. I'm a noob but not a retard.
I have a very strange and frustrating problem. Like many of you I wanted to install Android 2.3 on my HTC HD2. Unfortunately I'm quite stuck. I did put radio 2.15.50.14, the 2.08.HSPL (with HSPL3_PKG), MAGLDR 1.13 and CWM (MAGLDR_CWM_Recovery_v3.0.2.5_for_NexusHD2_135M) on my device, but when I tried to install the ROM via AD Recovery the device didn't show the menu and got stuck on "go go go". That's bad, but even worse is that I couldn't enter the tri-color screen to connect via USB and restore the original stock ROM. However I did manage to boot the "Stock Android" (NAND). Only way I can still flash is via USB Flasher. I read something about cabine (.cab) files that could somehow get you in the boot loader on other HTC devices, but can't find any for the HD2.
Anybody has any idea how I can enter the bootloader and restore my original Windows Mobile?
I have been searching for hours now. I have found similar problems, but no answers are given that can solve my problem.
I hope you smart guys can help me out. Is there maybe any way that I can run Windows Mobile the "NAND-way", to connect to Windows Mobile Device Center and flash my device?
Thanks in advance,
Stef van Son
This morning I just tried the volume down again, after the phone was in the MAGLDR menu the whole night. And now i could make it to the bootloader for some strange reason. Does anybody has an explanation for this?
I'm back to Windows Mobile now and have had it with flashing for now, but maybe after my exams I will go for Android again (I hate WinMo).

You might want to use some of the instructions in my signature... Also check out the CoreDroid thread, we have some pretty good instruction there. Usually if you pull you battery, then turn on your phone while holding vol down button, it will boot directly into the rainbow screen.
Well, I did follow quite good instruction manuals, but at the step of flashing the new rom, my device just didn't do what it was supposed to. It's quite strange, because WinMo 6.5 just works perfectly.
And no, pulling the battery out I tried probably a hundred times...
Hi
I currently have w7 on my htc hd2 and im trying to revert back to win 6.5.
ive downloaded this stock rom RUU_Leo_TMO_UK_1.43.110.2_Radio_Signed_15.26.50.07U_.
Phone booted into USB Flasher (Hold Power down, Option 5, End call Button.
But it sits at Wait Usb....USB and doesnt move.
What am i doing wrong??
Please help?
Thanks
You need to enter bootloader. Shutdown phone and power on while holding volume down. It will be the tri color screen. Attach USB then run 6.5 rom update
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Another option would be to flash the ROM via SD card method.
This way, everything will be set back to factory status.

indeed, you should always use SD method when going back to stock, it will correct most issues and will bring your phone back to how it was when you got it, remember to install HSPL again if you intend to tinker with it some more, SD flash will remove Magldr and HSPL and will also change the radio, spl and ROM
search the forums for how to SD flash, theres plenty of them, infact most of them would have came up in the "suggestions of previously started threads" box when you make this thread!
flashing via bootloader is more reliable, sometimes flashing via sd image is not recognised.

I have an HTC Surround that I cant get to boot past htc logo and if i try to hard rest it goes to spl screen. Where can i get the software to reflash it. I also have another microsd that i can change out if that is bad
still working on
So I replaced the mirco sd and tried to do the restore using the power and volume buttons and still would not get it to try and boot more then a few secs and stop at the htc screen. I also flashed the stock att rom that I got off xda but still no luck. My last chance is trying a new battery today are there any more suggestions
My surround did the same thing recently. It's a problem surrounds have. Unfortunately you have tried the 3 most common solutions.
1: reflash with stock rom
2: Change out sd card
3: hard reset
The only way I know of to get a working one after you have tried those 3 things is hope it's under warranty. :-/

Where did you get that stock at&t rom? I've been all through the developer section and all I see are telus and cingular roms. I've got a phone from the shop that's stuck on the htc logo and replacing the sd card hasn't fixed it. I tried to flash a telus rom because hey what the hell do I have to lose but RUU wasn't able to establish an ActiveSync connection on the htc logo screen looping repeatedly. Is there a way to force it into a sort of download mode from the htc logo to do the flashing from?

---------- Post added at 02:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:22 AM ----------
i'm guessing this should work:
C. Windows Phone 7 ROM Flashing Instructions
1. Unzip your downloaded *.zip file in a separate folder
2. Press and hold power-on/off button to power-off the phone
3. Press and hold volume-down button and then press power-on/off button to enter bootloader mode
4. When your phone enters the tricolor screen bootloader mode, release volume-down button
5. Connect your phone to your windows 7/vista/xp pc/laptop with a usb cable
6. Verify that your phone will be identified and relevant drivers will be installed by windows os of your pc/laptop
7. After completion of (6.) above, check the usb message connection on your phone screen
8. To flash the new ROM go to your pc/laptop folder of (1.) above
9. Double click on the ROMUpdateUtility.exe file and strictly follow the instructions on your pc/laptop screen
Do You still need help about this?
Basically you need to download DFT_RSPL_WP7FG2_LAUNCH from this forum, this will allow you to flash a custom rom. The ROM installed at the phone must be a NODO one because mango roms updates the loader and are not compatible.
For apply it you must put the phone on loader. Connect the phone to the usb, turn it off, turn it on but holding volume down key.
Once there you will see the 3 color screen and will say USB run the DFT_RSPL_WP7FG2_LAUNCH and follow the steps.
The phone will restart and showing again the 3 color screen but with HSPL now you can install DFT ROM. DFT ROM is basically a custom Windows Phone with the option to sideload apps you just run ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the DFT ROM downloaded and it will upgrade your OS to DFT Version.
Now what? SPL too high!
My brothers HTC surround has crashed, and fails to load the OS. i can get to the bootloader, but it's
spl-4.2.2250.1 (129185) MNG
i've got HSPL and RSPL, but they say DON'T TRY IF NOT 1.X SPL OR IF IT SAYS MNG. his says both. he was running mango, and i'm just trying to reinstall a stock rom. I'm wondering what advice any of you might have. I've reinstalled roms on Samsung devices, but not on an HTC, so i'm not sure what all this is about, or what the consequences are of proceeding. any help would be great.
Thanks dudes.
bump?
please?
Is it 1/2 bricked?
If you connect the device to a PC does it go to USB mode? At teh red blue green screen does it say USB at the bottom?
USB
It does display USB. If i leave it on for like an hour, eventually, i just discovered, windows DOES load, and it says "your memory is corrupt" it does connect to the computer, and it is detected by my pc, and it does display USB. I'm going to try to put in a new SD card, but i'm wondering once i do that, will i be able to flash the retail rom to it, with that spl.
thanks!
Check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597837.I believe you will have to downgrade your bootloader. I haven't tried this yet myself, I hope it helps you out.
