That is the safest method to upgrade to ICS if you are on stock ROM.
If you are on CUSTOM ROM.. please go back to any STOCK ROM and use that process..
Let me remind you that any update via KIES or OTA will kick the root out ...
Thanks it really worked for me...now I have ICS on my Note
Question about US galaxy note
If I live in the US and my sp is AT&T will this update work for me?? Or would it either not work or mess up my phone? Just wondering.If this would work for me I'd be happy to have ICS instead of having to wait a few more weeks or months before it rolls out here. Thanks in advance..

Here is my review of the Xperia A
On the stock firmware you can root it using the DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit
If you have updated to 10.1.1.D.2.26 then the Easy Rooting toolkit doesn't work yet.
I was able to root 10.1.1.D.2.26 with the info found here on 2ch with the tool posted on comment 508.
work?

Xperia A (SO-04E) {FW: 10.1.1.D.0.179}
Xperia A (SO-04E) {FW: 10.1.1.D.2.26}
Both work with Doomlord, once it is rooted you should use rootkeeper otherwise OTA will remove your root.
You can update using OTA using WiFi under settings -> about phone
Otherwise you can use the Sony Bridge Software to update your phone but it will delete root and there is not root for later versions of the software.
The latest version out now is 4.2.2 build 10.31.B.0.224
Thanks zaphod777!
Do you know where else I can get the 4.2.2 tft??????
....I found this japanese website, it looks like you can keep your root in 10.1.1.D.2.31, the google translation isn't very accurate but its enough I guess.

If you install root keeper you should be OK with OTA update. Updating the phone with the PC software will remove root.
