While I'm downloading a large App if I put my Nexus 7 in Standby mode will the WiFi still be active and keep on downloading the App? If not how do I turn off the Nexus 7's screen while downloading a large App thats going to take a while?
You have to set Wi-Fi to stay on always. It's in Wi-Fi settings.
Sent from my Nexus 7(2012) that has zero issues.

If i sleep the device overnight I lose about 10-15% battery. Wifi on, bluetooth off. my girlfriends ipad 2 only loses about 1-2% with the exact same settings. anyone know whats up? I don't own a dock.
stock 3.1, no root.
How about other options? How often do TF synchronize with Google (Gmail, maybe Google+ etc.) and other services.
Define "wifi on." What is the sleep policy for wifi?
Wifi policy is set to always on, which seems to be the same on the ipad. I have never turned on the ipad and had the wifi off, and it gets push notifications while asleep, which I want. And yes it is syncing to multiple services, but again ipad-esque settings.

My WiFi Policy is set to When Screen Turns off and I get notifications when tablet is off. Disable Syncing to Picasa, there's a bug with it and causes problems. Disable syncs for things you don't need.
Find a battery logging app and tell me whats the highest amt of battery usage per app?
Just checked, wifi is like 90% of the usage, so ill switch to screen off. Bet that fixes it.
Won't this affect apps like groove IP where it needs to be online to receive calls?

Samsung Wifi-only 16gb tablet
Guys
I have set my wifi sleep policy as 'when screen turns off'. However, on doing a packet capture on my wireless access point, I still see some data from the tablet. Also, emails to my tablet email address cause a lot more data and the tablet responds to pings too
Isn't the wifi sleep policy supposed to turn the wifi radio off?
Thanks in advance!
yes, it should but I think wifi is not shutting down immediately after screen off, only after a few minutes or so.
Yea I noticed the same thing... its killing my battery wish this worked properly

Found out that I need to disable Airsync to get wifi to stay asleep. My idle battery is 20% of what it was before since wifi would never sleep. Don't know if you have DoubleTwist airsync or not but I lose 5 - 6% per day now.

I am using Cyanogenmod on Nexus 4 to perform some current measurements.
Now I have one problem where Nexus 4 will go to sleep whenever I disconnect USB cable (with screen turned off). The idle current goes down to almost zero (from 0.10A) and anything that I started to execute over adb finishes only when I turn on the screen or connect USB back to Nexus 4.
Does anyone know how I can fix this and force Nexus 4 to stay awake when I turn off the screen?
Anyone? Is there some settings in Android/Cyanogenmod that I can set?
Play a tune or something.
Or I bet there's an app in the app store.

Try SafeCharge application and there is a setting to keep a wakelock manually so that the phone won't sleep with screen off

Thanks. That's pretty much how I solved my problem.
I downloaded app that enables wake lock. Before device would always go into standby mode and lock everything up.
The idle current was pretty low with wake lock enabled (like 22mA)... not sure if this is normal.
I have a 2013 Nexus 7 32GB and turned off "scanning always available" option (let Google's location service and other apps scan for networks, even when Wi-Fi is off) and set "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleeping" to never.
The table should not turn wireless off and on during sleeping, right?
Look at the attachement and the power meter shows that wifi turned off and on while the screen was turned off.
I didn't have this problem with 2012 Nexus 7.
Is this a bug with 2013 Nexus 7?

Other apps can turn on WiFi. Maybe its an installed app?
I had a similar problem and used Greenify to hibernate several apps. That solved it for me.

Try turning off wifi optimization. That's how mine is configured with the rest identical and wifi shows solid.
tried the above but still didn't work. I'll try wakelock detector and upload screenshots.
Do you have wifi set to stay on or off during sleep? I notice it takes a good few seconds to reconnect to wifi upon wake. Does data also stay on while the phone is asleep? In that case will keeping wifi on during sleep save more battery compared to just data alone? Thoughts?
I don't know how to override this without tasker or juice defender
