I am looking to replace the back housing piece on a Droid Razr M (Due to the glass shattering) and I have found a $40 replacement housing for the Razr M but while looking, I have also found a housing for the Razr i for half the price so I would like to know if this will fit the Razr M. The two phones have exactly the same dimensions and both have 2000mAh batteries.
The only hardware difference I am aware of is the cpu. So, would it be a good idea to take my chances and buy the Razr i housing or just go with the original Razr m housing?
Just skimming through the videos they look the same.. though I don't know for sure....

I actually am not able to have links yet because I'm still a new member however, if you go on eBay and search up it will pop up: Battery Back Door Cover Housing Replacement For Motorola Razr i
Here is what you search up to see the Razr M housing: OEM MOTOROLA VERIZON RAZR M XT907 REPLACEMENT BLACK BACK HOUSING
difference in RAZR I - M housing
Hi! I've just got a new RAZR M and previously I owned a RAZR I. The size is exactly the same, but a the RAZR M is lacking the camera button below the volume controls. This would not stop you to fit a case however.

Interesting, I hadn't even noticed that the M and the I were different in that way. I thought they were the same except for the radios.
OP, I took apart my M to replace the motherboard. I can tell you that the M is ridiculously easy to disassemble. Based on what oroszms said and some pictures of the I, it looks like you'll have to go with the M housing--the backplate is all one piece and the camera button cutout on the I housing will leave a gap and the internal screw placement might not be the same either.. I'd play it safe and go with the M housing. Or you could always try to find a water damaged M with an OK looking backplate and switch it with that instead... I saw water damaged M's going for ~$30 when I was looking for a new motherboard on eBay a few months ago.

I have found a few ebay posts for broken Razr m's and I've fixed lots of phones before so I'm familiar with the process.
What do you think of these two that I have found?

Great video and your crazy to take apart your brand new phone. But I have to say you have balls.

Looks like the connector for the xt1080 battery is in a different spot so swapping the turbo battery to the xt1080 would be difficult?

Connector is completely different than xt1080 and I highly doubt the phone would accept a different battery since there is a chip that reads the battery and vice versa so would reject a different battery of different types.
Awesome video man. I have a question for you about the back cover. Does it seem to still fit good after breaking the adhesive seal? Also, was it very difficult to remove the back with the adhesive? I see that you had to stop the video to do it. Thanks again for the video.
So technically speaking if I were to buy the mgf back cover from a 3rd party to replace the ballistic nylon on my 64gb model it would fit fine?

The mgf and bl are slightly different dimensions, and this may have everything to do specifically with the back. So I wouldn't say its safe to assume it will fit, but I would give it a shot because you can probably make it fit one way or another.

I'd give it away for free... but i bought a replacement cuz my phone fell down n got a few dents and scratches... and i couldnt bear to see it even with a single scratch!
And it fits perfectly by the way.... The MFG has a rectangle plastic piece sorta thing attached to it to give more support, gotta pull it out and stick it on to the Blue Nylon back... i just tried out to see if it fits.... When i am gonna do the final transition i will post pics...

If flashing stock ROM via RSD with full wipe haven't helped, I guess It's a hardware issue.
You will need new screen. There are a few at eBay.com (as usual, ALWAYS check the seller ratings and buyer feedbacks), as well, if you know how to fix.
I'd rather buy screnn with frame than only screen. Because it's easy to damage it while repairing and it's not much more expensive. I'm going to buy one after 1st December to fix my broken.
If you buy screen with frame, it's very easy to repair. Just unscrew 11 screws, unplug one flex cable and pull out speaker. If you want, I can make tutorial for you. I have 2 broken Droid RAZR Ms at home.
Sent from my Motorola DROID RAZR M
They usually come in the frames on eBay, because it's usually difficult to remove the busted screen. So, new case halve, that is. Straight from Motorola, you would have to buy both digitizer and organic LED screen panel, they could be expensive so buying a frame with good screen in it is cheaper route.
It's actually easy to do so, all you have to have are guitar pick, box cutter blade or Exacto blade (to pop off microphone cover, revealing three screws, and there are two under "Motorola" speaker cover bezel), and small star screwdriver. Just take the time disassembling the phone, no rush.
My moto x play fell down and the gorilla glass(?) , only the outer glass has cracked, the screen seems to be working fine , how much will it cost to get it fixed in India?
Not sure what the labour will cost you to replace the screen but the part is going for $100 + $20 shipping in US dollars on eBay.

It's actually not. If you order 2 you save $10. You can order 1, it just costs $74.99, while ordering 2 will cost $70/each.

So many X Play and X Style/Pure displays breaking so easy. Wonder if Lenovo to save costs used thinner glass. Would be a scary thing.

Hey guys, just ordered a screen for my Moto X Play from Eddogo on Ebay. It was half the price of the others, so I am excited/anxious to see if the screen is good or not. I broke my X Play glass on the first drop after two weeks of having the phone...

Same here...phone is very fragile and give me a doubt whether it has Gorilla glass or not...phone fell from 2 feet that too the backside of the phone hit the ground and the entire front glass has been cracked...even small small pieces are juz ripping off the phone...the worst scenario is I had tampered glass on the phone and still the screen broke...not even a month old phone :'(
i broke my moto x play xt1562 display, please let us know the quality of after market part.
I got the screen today. It looks promising. After disassembling my phone, I find out that the replacement screen is only the screen and glass, not the plastic and aluminium frame that the rest of the phone is attached to.
It is mounted with glue and very hard to get off my cracked screen, so I did not want to break anything.
The only disassembly guide on the internet:

It looks fine visually, but I can't mount it on my phone without peeling off the fragile plastic that is glued to the edge of the screen,(the little edge you can feel when you hit the end of the screen.), and getting the aluminium frame off the screen.
Not sure what I am going to do now... I don't want to break my phone further.

I have a Moto X Pure with a screen that cracked today in my front pocket. I'm baffled and bummed, and of course despite being 5 months old Motorola is of no help. I was wondering if anyone here has successfully removed a wood/bamboo back plate to swap out the LCD. For older Moto X's people on ifixit saying forget it because it is not glued in, and it'll crack on removal. Just wondering if anyone has done it on this model, and if so how. Also, I am reading on here that LSHtech is the way to go for a replacement. Can anyone confirm or offer other suggestions for a screen/LCD assembly?
Thank you all for your time.

In sure you can replace it but get the LCD screen and frame assembly. When trying to open it up be extremely careful and you'll be fine
If it is 5 months old you should have Motorola do it elevate your request if need be the customer service kinda sucks but keep at it.

Did my screen yesterday. It wasn't wood, but that shouldn't prevent you from getting the back off without breaking it. Spend extra time with the heat gun. If you do manage to break it, you can score a new back for a whopping $10.
And for the love of god, be sure to get an LCD with the speaker grills installed already.
