[Q] Nexus 4 4.3 build JWR66V to JWR66Y - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
This is the first time ever I'm posting something. I own a Nexus 4 and I live in Pakistan. Actually I bought this phone from a local shop which offered used handsets and this nexus 4 was bought in UK and somehow had reached here in Pakistan. Now when I reset the phone first to input my details and it restarted I got to know that it had cyanogen mod installed also doing a factory reset deleted its chrome and play apps as well. It was rooted running android 4.3 build JWR66V. I don't know but I wanted a normal nexus 4 running everything stock. I wanted to get the OTAs so I followed this thread to unroot it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
and installed the stock android 4.3 build JWR66V factory image with stock recovery and everything else.
Just left the bootloader unlocked.
But now the OTA build JWR66Y is available but every time I check it says my phone is up to date. Please help how will I be able to receive OTAs. Thanks in advance

OTA updates are rolled out incrementally meaning that not all people get them at the same time. Your phone is stock and good to go and you should receive the update sooner or later.

[Q] Can't find/install updates

Hey,
I have looked around a bit and none of the similar threads gave me any useful information.
I have a Nexus 4, which was bought and is being used in Estonia, under the carrier Elisa. The device stock (locked and not rooted).
Current info:
Android version: 4.2.1
Kernel: 3.4.0-perf-ge039dcb (Nov 8 2012)
Build: occam-userdebug 4.2.1 JOP40D 533553 dev-keys
I have had this phone for about 5 months and meanwhile, I have received no OTA updates of any kind. Seeing as most Nexus devices are already getting Android 4.3, it seemed strange that I had not even been promoted to 4.2.2. I started to look around for options to get the updates.
What I have tried:
Clearing Google Services Framework data to get the OTA trick - did not change anything
Sideloading a 4.2.2 update (JDQ39 from JOP40D) - upon verifying the update, I got the "installation aborted" error. I downloaded the update zip twice with no luck in installing either.
This raised two questions for me:
1) What could cause such a situation?
2) Is there any other way for me to install updates without resorting to a complete factory reset of my phone?
Thanks in advance!
Janno
Well for some reason you have a Dev build. In order to receive ota updates you'll have to flash the stock factory image. See efrant's back to stock guide. It's a sticky in the general section.

Thanks.
So it seems there is no way I can get out of a factory reset.

You could flash everything other than the userdata.IMG. I can't make any promises that it won't bootloop. Especially coming from a Dev build two versions behind.

Did you manage to solve the problem? I just figured out that I have the same version as your device, so I'm also not getting any updates.
Hey, I managed to fix the issue by flashing the default image(backed up all my data so none was lost). Build number changed to what it was supposed to be and I have had no problems receiving updates since.

Mystery system update

Hi all - I just received a notice on my Nexus 7 that there is a system update to install. I already installed 4.3 build JWR66V a couple weeks ago. Anyone know what this update is? I can't seem to find any information anywhere. My device is unlocked and rooted, running stock.
Yeah, google has released a newer version, so if you're on stock, why not update?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
It's an update from build JWR66V to JWR66Y, still Android 4.3.
If it's an OTA update, always install it.
It fixes a couple of issues after the 4.3 update
Sent from my Nexus 7(2012) that has zero issues.
Is it possible to update via ota when the device is unlocked and rooted? I updated it but it still says JWR66V, not Y. But when I look for an update it says up to date.

Will this update unroot it?
Yes you'll still recieve the update it just hasnt been pushed to you yet if it says up to date. Factory images for it are already up waiting on someone to make a zip for CWM

Me too, but gives error when installing =(
Rooter and bootloader unlock
Had an error at then end of the installation but looks like it succeed to update it coz when i started my device it said that my applications are optimizating for the new version or something like that.
Build is JWR66V now, there is no any system updates now. Root is still there.

Guess nobody believed me :silly:
Anybody working on a zip yet for the update??
If you lost root and it put you back on stock recovery just reflash your recovery then supersu
For the folks that are having "error" during the update, restart your n7 then clear cache and data from framework services and check for updates again and it should come up. Also make sure you at least have 80% battery level:good:
It's supposed to fix the phantom screen touch problem and a few other things I'm sure someone will come up with root G.B.Y.

There's an OTA .zip for build JWR66Y here... but there appears to be a problem with symlink permisssions.
But there is also a solution here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745781&page=53 and a modified version of the OTA that fixes the permissions. Worked for me flashing via TRWP.
Incidentally, I also lost root after upgrading... not sure why... but not a big problem, as I reflashed SuperSU v1.51 in TWRP.
-----------------------------
Not quite sure what this very minor upgrade is supposed to accomplish, given 4.3 was only rolled out 4 weeks or so, ago.... but I suspect it has a lot to do with a minor screwup on Googles part, the details of which can be found here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2382880.
I think (and I could be wrong), build JWR66Y is {AOSP JSS15J + Gapps}... in other words, JSS15J, released as Factory Stock instead of AOSP.
And the full factory image of JWR66Y is already available on the Google Developer website here and it's immediate predecessor, JWR66V has been 'pulled' and is no longer available for download.
Anyway, take a look at the above link, and you should see what I'm getting at.
Rgrds,
Ged.
grouper zip that was linked worked great here. No issues here now

Will the 4.4 OTA update replace the ignored 4.3 update?

I've been ignoring the 4.3 update prompt, it will never see my phone.
With 4.4 rumored to release tomorrow, if I reboot my phone, will I instead see the 4.4 update prompt? Will I be able to tell if it's 4.3 or 4.4?
I hope I don't have to have a 4.3 phone to get the 4.4 update?
If so, I hope a factory link will pop up soon to flash through stock recovery using fastboot in nexus 4 toolkit.
Thanks.
I don't think it will release tommorow or this week anyway..
But as I know from Galaxy's devices you should update to the version before the new one...then you'll get the new version update.
I guess someone will export it as soon as it goes out and you could flash it stright..
many of the ota updates arent full rom updates, but partial roms. because of this, you would need 4.3. even if someone posts a link to the ota file, if its not a full rom, you would hve to update it over 4.3.
Its not going to come tomorrow it's probably just being announced

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME QUESTION AND GOOGLE IS NOT ANSWERING ME YET.
Please if anybody knows answer!
Will we receive the 4.4 OTA on a 4.2.2 running Nexus 4?
Updates are incremental, there's a reason to keep our phones up to date in order to receive OTA's

If you go to general forum there's a thread with the factory firmware image.
You can use adb fastboot to install it from your stock factory recovery (I'm assuming your phone is unrooted etc).
This will give you a completely new phone with official kit Kat. I just did it with mine.
Then install the new Google Now and GEL launcher apks and your phone will look exactly like the N5.

[Q] How to upgrade my rooted nexus 7

Hello,
The last time I rooted my nexus was about 6 months ago to android 4.2.1. To tell the truth I just followed some tutorials and 6 months later I can't remember much of the process at all.
So there has been android 4.3 and now 4.4. Not that I'm dissatisfied with my device as it is, I just want to experience the new versions. So to restate the question, how can I upgrade to 4.3 or 4.4 while keeping the device rooted ?
Thank You

Well, you could just install the 4.3 OTA then the 4.4 OTA and simply re-root. Using Chainfire's cf-auto-root that process only takes 2 minutes. Doing the OTAs will keep you from losing data. There are links to the OTA files in the "OTA links sticky here in the "N7 General" forum that you posted this question in. Be sure to do each of the OTAs in turn - don't skip any of them. Start with the build you have & jumpa as far forward as you can (choose your zips wisely so you don't have to do a bunch of them. (for example, do the OTA from your build up to JDQ39, then do the JDQ39 to JWR66Y OTA, then the JWR66y to KRT16O OTA).
You might want to pause for a few minutes in 4.3 world before you jump to 4.4. Let things settle down & see if any 4.3-specific updates come down from the Play Store. It shouldn't, but where's the harm in waiting?!?
Why can't I just directly update from 4.2.1 to 4.3 without having to go through 4.2.2 ? I thought each update was self contained !
I downloaded the android 4.4 factory image and want to completely put it over the 4.2.1. How to do that ?

More complicated than flashing 2 or 3 OTAs, but here is a tutorial to flash factory IMGs keeping data and root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho... 4.2.2 (root + unlocked bootloader) KEEP DATA
Best of luck.

OTA Kit Kat Questions

Hello,
The 4.4 OTA has been released for a few weeks now. I have yet to receive it on either my 2012 (WiFi only) or my 2013 4G LTE models. Has anybody here had this problem? Neither tablet is rooted or moded in any way, except I downloaded the new GEL Launcher and the new play store, but still on 4.3 ( and 4.3.1 for the LTE model)
Thanks in advance,
Kyle

Thanks, man. The only problem is I don't own a computer ( I know, right!)...
Is there a way without root to flash the zip?

My wife's 2012 WiFi has not received the OTA yet either. It's only rooted with custom recovery installed.
It received all the other OTA's just fine.
It is SO SLOW! I'm really hoping KitKat breathes some life back into it.
I downloaded the factory image and am planning on wiping it clean in the next day or so. That doesn't really help you though without a computer.
Droid-Life had an article a few weeks back about the update with instructions to install using adb sideload. Then they said "flashing the .zip file through recovery often times works"
I'm guessing that won't help you either since you're not rooted or anything.
Anyway, you're not alone in not receiving the update yet. I'm wondering what the issue is.
Here's the DL article:
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/11/1...krt16o-official-update-for-nexus-7-2012-wifi/
Let me know how that works out. I have been debating doing a factory reset on the device to see if that would push the update to my device. If you have any luck keep me posted.
Thanks.

Hey! I rebooted my Nexus 7 and received the new Kit Kat 4.4 update lol. Now my 2012 Nexus is running super smooth, better than new. Screen transitions are slick. I'm going to play some games and watch a video.
Also, if anyone knows how to change the click, battery, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. Back to the Google Holli blue instead of white let me know... I liked the holon blue look.

This morning I went into Google Framework Services and cleared data, cache and force stop. Then went to system updates and the OTA came through. I wasn't expecting it to work and was quite surprised.

KitKat 4.4 Destroyed my Nexus 7
I got the OTA update this morning and did it. Now I get no command...called google didn't buy it from the playstore so they sent me to AUSUS they gave me an RMA since I have LOST EVERYTHING and not able to get in. It did have grouper 4.23 before but the recover doesn't work so they say I have to send it in. Does anybody know if there is a way to get this working?
I see others had good results..I am really upset...
:crying:
It is no longer rooted either since the grouper update...VOO DOO didn't work and of course I didn't find out until AFTER I lost root...my developer who I bought the kit from didn't have a connection to update my kit and now I have a new computer lost my files and kit...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
