About battery percentage - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I m currently on CM 10.1.2, and for the last few days i have noticed that when my phone's battery level goes at around 30 or 33, if i plug in the charger it immediately shows battery full (100% charged). If i keep using my phone the battery percentage goes to 10 or 12 in few seconds/minutes from 30%. It only happens when battery percentage is somewhere between 30 to 35%, other than that works fine. any idea?
Thanks.

I never used it till the battery is that low, either that or I use it till its near 0.
Probably a bad battery file. Try this, go under Interface>system>notificationbar>battery and change it to another type? Like from Circle(percentage) to Text and icon etc.
Other than that, its a bad flash but since u say no other problems then it shouldnt be.

I have had this issue a couple of times, the only thing I do is to reboot the phone or power it off. It seems that the problem is kernel related, when you are charging, it just shows 100% charged after few seconds, but is not really charging. I´m on PA 3.99 and this happens no more.

Well, you could always dirty flash the nightly and see if it fixes it. Not sure if Cm10.1.3 is out yet.

Boot into recovery, go to advanced and wipe battery stats.
Alternatively, use a file explorer with root functions and delete /data/system/batterystats.bin. Note that this is from the root directory, not the /sdcard/ or /media/ partitions. Reboot ended you've deleted the file.
You should probably only do this when you're battery is already full.

Use CM10.2 then, its stable already anyway

dead Galaxy Note

Hi every one! Everything was ok with my GNote and for months with ics update. yesterday I tried to reboot it because the battery was empty after long time use. I connected the phone to the charger but nothing happens. I waited a few hours but nothing too. It does not pass to download mode and recovery mode too. I tried the battery on the GNote of my brother and it works and its battery does not help to boot up on my GNote. So the problem is on the phone. What is the solution please?
PS: i don't changed anything on the Gnote since Mounths
Thank you

Just a long shot, but is it a faulty battery connection on your device.
have you tried to flash another gb or ics rom?
Im guessing you run on stock ics, you could be superbricked if you deleted a big file from your phone, deleting big files could trigger the eMMC brick command. Just guessing here so i could be wrong.

Wrong.
Seems to be battery connection problem from your tests as it was said before. If your warranty is not void..should go for SAV.

Have you tried charging your battery in your brothers note, and then placing it in yours? If your phone boots, then its a faulty connector issue.

If it was a faulty battery connection, as seems to be a consensus here, than your phone wouldn't boot at all; yet you say that you can reach Download and Recovery mode.
It's something else.

With every electronic gadget using Lithium-ion batteries nowadays, it doesn't really matter how/when you charge it.
Some would argue to make sure to allow a full discharge from a full charge from a battery calibration point of view, so the battery meter is more accurate. It wouldn't affect the health of the battery itself either way.
Things like memory effect doesn't apply to lithium-ion. How often you charge it and how much you charge it (full or partial charge etc.) doesn't affect it much either. The only 2 things that can potential kill a lithium-ion is high temperature and letting it discharge far too low to the point that it cannot be charged up again. Note that all electronic devices will power off way before it even reaches this threshold.

Sounds like it may be a corrupt download. Unless you plan to remain on the stock ROM just unlock/root it and then install what ever ROM you like.

the problem can be the battery, even if it's a new one.
I tried two other batteries, and the problem had continued.
I think the other ones was fake/old batteries, but sold as original and new.
Thanks for the help, the problem is solved, I just had to do full sbf install for 3 times. Now my mobile is on for about 26 hours using the new battery. (On 4.2.2)
Maybe I had problems both with the old battery and the battery files on the ROMs.

I have been experiencing similar battery problems running Whiterabbit 2.1.1 on my Green lens Defy Mb525. Which 4.2.2 ROM are you using Jinx? If I flash a new ROM and recalibrate the battery is that likely to fix it? I'm guessing sbf install is the same as a full factory reset. (forgive me, I'm a beginner when it comes to all this!) How come you needed to reinstall 3 times?
I don't know, what solved my problem, but the fact is that I reinstalled the sbf three times than updated to Quarx's latest 4.2.2 nightly than I got it right.
My phone just run out of power after 3 days 4 hours. Good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to reply Jinx.
3 days is excellent! I flashed sbf twice, had some trouble running Jellybean ROMs without serious lag, so am currently reverting back to 7.2, running 'Cyanmobile experience'. It runs smoothly, but still encountering the battery drops, so its somewhat of a mystery!
I'll keep experimenting.
I have a spare battery, and an external wall charger. Currently swapping between the two to last through the day with enough juice!

Somehow, even for me, after 3 sbf flashes, CM10 is really smooth and there are no problems so far. Oddly, after the second sbf flash, CM10 was quite laggy.
I bought my brand New defy in October 2012. I've had huge battery drops ever since I jumped onto the CM10 bandwagon from this February. How's that possible?

[Q] Dies at ~70% charge

My nexus 10 is dying with displayed charge at or around 70%. I had lost the tablet and it was dead for months. Idk if that is relevant or not. It did take a full charge a few times after finding the tablet before the above stated issue occurred. The charger I'm using should be in good shape as it charges my Galaxy S4 w/o issue. Running CM 10.1.3 (Stable).
Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Update: now the device is dying while showing charge level in the high 90% mark. Device now dies mid-boot even plugged in. Before it would stay on so long as I kept it plugged in. It will stay on if I go into cwm. That's the curious part.
Sent from my SGH-I337 using XDA Premium HD app
After doing some research I'm going to guess calibration to be the issue. What to do if calibration is so out of wack it thinks its charged when it's dead?
Update: I ran calibration after I managed to get it to 100%. A few minutes later it died. Curiously I put my tablet in recovery mode and it has stayed on for at least an hour now. However when I try to boot into CM it dies. Every retry it dies a little sooner in boot.
Maybe you could go back to stock via fastboot. If that doesnt work I think tour battery is dead.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app
Actually I've been letting it sit idle in recovery mode. Its had at least 4 hours to drain now. Haven't been able to kill it yet so I am extra confused. I read the charge with an app and it was at 4400. The tablet is perfectly happy in recovery. I wiped my system partition and reflashed CM. This seemed to have an affect to a degree. Once the dalvik cache was rebuilt the tablet died again and went back to the odd behavior I mentioned. I would prefer to not return to stock unless it is absolutely necessary. I will if I have to but I would like to see if anyone else has seen this issue or has an idea on how to TS it as is.
For the Android junkie this would be a fun issue to trace down. I simply don't have the education. I just created my developer console account and am going through the documentation to create my first app. Clearly outside of Google Fu I'm relatively useless.

Try wiping the battery stats from recovery, if yours lets you.
Have you tried wiping/factory reset and starting with a clean install? As part of all the rebooting, you may have corrupt file(s).

I think in going to have to. I've proved the battery is charged and CWM knows it. I'd like to do a titanium backup to preserve my game data but I don't see how if the darn thing dies mid-boot. May have to bite the bullet on this one

Flashed full factory image
I used the image found here to completely wipe and reset all partitions and make the thing like it just came out of the box with no trace of mods left (that I'm aware of). It happily booted in and I got about halfway through initial setup and it died and returned to the same behavior.

Use a battery calibrate app as well. When you flash a new ROM its essential you wipe out previous battery stats.

4.4.4 has really hurt my battery. I thought it was the battery, so I replaced with an OEM. Still drained, so I did factory reset, same problem, went with CM11 and it still drains fast. It even drains when the phone is powered off. I can charge to 100 and then power down the phone and 24 hours later power on and the battery is around 60%.
