Netflix is useless for me on this thing. I had a 12001 error, cleared the data, and it started working... but terribly choppy. Uninstalled and reinstalled, and it's still the same. Anybody else have this?
Once it plays its flawless for me, but I have been having an issue where Netflix will launch and then I get the spinny loading screen and nothing else until I force stop the app and retry. Most of the time I have to reboot the tablet entirely to get it to work.

The app works fine on mine but I did have to wipe data after restoring from tb. The quality is VERY poor when compared to YouTube or other video apps. I can't believe it doesnt stream in HD. (No, it's not my WiFi connection or settings)
Anyone else notice this?

Just did a full wipe and installed the new update. It's fine now. I was running a version before the factory images were out, so maybe that was it.

I didn't want to make a thread for this specific issue but after searching I can't seem to find a definitive answer!
Does anyone else suffer from constant buffering with HD playback on the YouTube app and is this something that can be fixed??
Firstly I have a 60Mb/3Mb connection with a good strong wireless signal. We have numerous wireless devices around the house and none of them seem to be affected by this problem. I can have my Nexus 7 within 1 metre of my router and i'm lucky if I can get through 10 seconds of HD playback without it buffering, my laptop however will happily stream 1080p whilst i'm sitting in the garden!?
The Transformers movie on the play store has no problems at all, it plays smoothly no matter where I am in the house. It can even handle me skipping through sections and resumes playback almost instantly. I'm convinced the problem is with YouTube but don't really know how/if i can fix it. I have tried clearing the cache, reverting to a previous version and completely removing it and reinstalling yet the problems persist. SD playback is vastly better but it still has it's problems from time to time.
My device is completely stock running 4.1.2 (upgraded earlier today OTA). Apart from this issue I love the Nexus and don't really have any desires to root at present. I'm 31 with 2 children and my own business so I don't have the time to put into learning it all and keeping up with everything, 10 years ago things would have been very different!
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this was one of the main reasons I bought the tablet.
I have the same problem. It's very embarrassing when you try to show off the tablet to friends :-\

I also get this on most of my devices, seems like a YouTube problem.

I also have experienced this problem. It only happens with the YouTube on the N7. It doesn't happen on my iPhone or my laptop. I wish there was some way to fix it.

i have the same problem it really sucks
Look at post #267. A combination of SmoothROM and Bricked Kernel, both of which I've used in the past and are great, resolved the issue for one user.

It's somewhat comforting knowing i'm not suffering with this alone. . . This can't be right though surely!?
Whilst trying to fix the issue last night I did manage to stream a full HD 10 min video with no buffering, something that hasn't happened for a while. Strangely it worked right after using the speedtest.net app to test my connection. I don't even know if it's possible for one app to affect the other but the same video had buffering issues minutes before I ran the test. It's probably just a well timed coincidence but I thought it was worth mentioning.
I guess now we have to hope that Google get their act together and fix the site/app. They certainly receive enough in ad revenue, which always play flawlessly

I'm on stock 4.1.2 after a full reinstall, I can't recreate the issue. Out of curiosity can you go to settings > apps > all > youtube and clear the cache, does it help at all?

It's no different after clearing the cache unfortunately, that's one of the first things I tried. I'm guessing the next step is a full reinstall too. I'll have to look into backup options without root, which i'm guessing is pretty limited?
First world problems eh?
Same Problem. I noticed the only way to get the vids to move is to toggle between hd and regarding when it freezes up. Very annoying to say the least. I just use the browser now. No probs.

I thought that I have problem with my router. Guess not. BTW I found "solution" which works for me. As soon as video starts buffering, turn off the screen, then on, unlock and press play on video and enjoy your video without buffering.

no solution, but the same problem. Bugs the hell out of me. My workaround has been to switch to SD which of course is a bit crap. When I get within reach of a wifi connection I'll try clearing cache/uninstalling updates etc. Not keen on rooting and installing new Rom/kernel as a solution to be honest.

Running 4.2 now makes no difference I'm afraid. Cleared cache and data, left updates. Still buffers uncontrollably. That said, the tip earlier tint he thread of turning off the screen, turning it back on and unlocking, then playing the video worked very well. It played HD video for 3 minutes straight with no buffering. Then a small/short buffer (acceptable) and now buffering again for the remained of the video @ 7 minutes. does this lend any information to lead to a root cause? Willing to work for a solution .
I wanted to update my situation seeing as I started this thread.
I recently moved home and changed internet provider and all of my issues with YouTube have gone away. I have gone from a 60Mb down / 3Mb up fibre optic service with Virgin Media (where I had nothing but issues). Now on a 4Mb down / .3Mb up ADSL service with Sky.
HD YouTube videos play flawlessly from everywhere I want to use my Nexus! It's not just YouTube though as pretty much everything that works from the internet is running a lot faster on my device now. I wish I could offer more of a solution but I can only say that I don't think it's a problem with the Nexus 7/YouTube app.
Yep. I found solution in some other thread. You gotta change modem or update firmware on it. I called my ISP requesting modem firmware update, they came and put new modem instead. Even better. Wish I knew about this solution before I bought new router. Oh well...at least now I have dual band so its not total waste of money.
same
So was the problem your modem, router or actual ISP? While my VDSL2 modem is capable of being a router, I have it setup in pass-through (bridge) mode to my DLINK DIR-655 router which handles everything. What exactly in the firmware is causing the slow-down just for youtube on the N7 (and not other computers)?
When I try to load videos in both the YouTube app and those embedded in the browser or Facebook the videos will not load. This problem only happens while on Wi-Fi. If I turn Wi-Fi off and switch to Cellular Data the videos then load fine. YouTube gives the error "Connection to Server Lost, Touch to Retry" it never reconnects no matter how many times you touch it. All other video errors just say "Sorry, this video cannot be played."
Additional Information: I'm running Android 4.3, just updated last week. No custom firmware, nor is my device rooted. This problem happens on both the Wi-Fi at home and at work.
Any ideas?
Dude your not alone.. It's the stupid 4.3 update... every time I get home I have to reboot my phone just for wifi to work on YouTube and any video streaming app.. very annoying.. gonna call sprint and report.. you should report it too.. is you nfc working. Mine can't recognize tapping to another phone....

This is going to sound stupid, but it worked for me. My YouTube wouldn't work on WiFi and I searched and found some year-old threads that said to update the Google Play Movies and Video. I had that disabled (stock / Sprint / 4.3). I turned it back on and updated it, rebooted the phone and now everything works fine. I left it enabled this time. YMMV I hope this helps.
My phone is 100% stock, I got the update OTA like an average subscriber would.
I'm having the SAME problem. Youtube DOES NOT WORK on wifi after the update, will only work on 3G/4G (probably 1xRTT too if that even exists anymore).
This includes INSIDE web browsers on the phone like CHROME. This means it's not just the Youtube app but something else causing this problem. The error is immediately displayed when you try to hit play and does not attempt to try to load the video first. What is going on?
Nikonmikon you just have to reboot each time it doesn't work.. it's annoying for now. I find that when I go to work come back home wifi and streaming videos no go unless I reboot my phone.. I'm on mk2 now and still no fix...

This might sound a little bizarre but I too was having the wifi issue where I couldn't connect to YT at home or anywhere else at that. I went into the App Manager out of desperation cleared the data, uninstalled it, reinstalled it and it's been working ever since. I know it sounds crazy but it worked for me...

I have completely uninstalled the updates for YouTube and cleared all data, checked it before installing updates. Checked it AFTER installing updates. Doesn't work.
This SUCKS.

Same issue, more apps
I have the same problem, but it happens with more than just YouTube. Facebook, Flipboard and a few other apps won't refresh over wifi. I can't even download updates. It started off happening every once in a while, but now it is constant. I have to turn off wifi to do anything. However, I on 4.2 stock and rooted.

Found solution.. If you are rooted download rom manager or titanium and freeze all knox related app in system. KNOX IS EVIL AND THAT'S WHAT CAUSES THE WHOLE VIDEO WIFI ISSUE.. I NO MORE PROBLEMS COMING HOME AND HAVING REBOOT MY PHONE TO STREAM VIDEO ON WIFI.

Glad that worked for you, but it's not a solution for everyone with this issue. I already had Titanium with all vestiges of Knox frozen to no avail. The video/audio streaming wifi issue is known. The fix linked in my post will hopefully work for those folks unaided by the knox freezing.

Found my Issue
Well, it turns out I had a much different resolution. For some reason, every wifi network I added, the proxy settings were defaulting to manual. Not sure why it's happening, but I just have to set it to none and all is good.
Each time I watch a video on the Youtube app the video freezes each 30 seconds while the audio keeps going. I have to skip to a certain part for it to start again. There is no issue when I watch in browser...any help?
btw I'm on rooted ATT Note 3, thanks!
I just made a post about this on the Sprint Galaxy S5 board. What I had to do was disable or turn off the ANT Radio Service, there should be two apps for it if this is your problem as well.

have you tried clearing the cache of youtube? its a commonly forgotten mistake which can save you a heck of a lot of frustration. Otherwise if the problem persists id suggest uninstalling updates and reinstalling thm and or deleting the app data in system/app i believe. good luck, i can agree it is possibly the most stressful glitch as i am using my phablet for youtube 99% of the time
I had a similiar issue, sometimes data gets left behind from a earlier version. I went into recovery and formatted cache partition. Been fine sense. give it a try
Hi everyone,
On my wife's GS7, videos don't play while on WiFi. This happens system-wide regardless of the app that's being used, and everything else works just fine on WiFi (web browsing, etc). On LTE, videos play with no problems at all. I've tried basically everything imaginable short of a factory reset and nothing seems to correct the issue. I've been looking around online and apparently the lately OTA was supposed to have fixed WiFi issues, but her phone is definitely not working correctly despite being on the latest update.
Has anyone else had this issue? If so, were you able to find a way to correct it?
Factory reset should fix it.

It constantly freezes, stutters, FCS etc..
Try to clear youtube data and cahce.
I use youtube a lot and havent hand any problems with it.
Working perfectly fine for me...
No issues for me either.
To be honest I'm having this issue as well and I haven't yet found any solution to this problem. The YouTube app sometimes force close especially while I'm scrolling on the subscription menu. I've wiped the data and cache of this YouTube app, and I've done factory reset . it didn't even get rid of the problem. I don't know what's causing this problem in the first place.
