[Q] Swiftkey not sticking as default keyboard - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have this annoying issue where I install swiftkey on my Omega rom i9505 and within like 10 minutes the samsung keyboard becomes default again, so i set swiftkey again...same thing, any ideas?

Rename the Samsung keyboard and add .bak to LatinIME.apk (or something like that) and it will not be activated after a boot.

Same thing happened to me with SwiftKey too. I deleted all other keyboards so now SwiftKey is my only keyboard and it's fine

Wouldn`t do that, if you`re custom keyboard crashes for some reason you have none left for input.

What exactly do you do? I have this issue too

Hmmm, I dont mind renaming stuff but just not sure seems like the Samsung keyboard just wont quit haha

Never crashed on me yet dude.
And it's not a big deal anyway, if it did I can always put stock keyboard back in system/apps.
I only ever use SwiftKey so seems pointless having all the others

switch to swiftkey tablet, that fixed the issued for me

How?

Same here, it's really annoying. I have to admit it's somehow better after the latest update but not completely fixed!

How can i have the stock keyboard to auto input text suggestions?

Go to the Samsung keyboard settings. Than activate Predictive Text and click on it. There check the box for auto replacement.

That is useless. It replaces words such as 'at' after you have typed them and pressed space with ones like 'or' or 'now' it's crazy!
This option is not in US phones has something to do with apples law suit against Samsung for autocorrect. I use swiftkey because of this, works great.

It is because of the phone lag. You just have to wait a little bit before typing the space.

Try "SmartKeyboard". Great app, customer autotexts and NO lag. There is a trial version.

I don't see Microsoft suing for use of auto-correct. Apple is just plain asinine in that regard.
I have not found swiftkey to slow my phone down at all. I'm loving it more than stock so far.

Right I was reluctant to try it because I felt the stock should work right but after using it I wouldn't have it any other way. Completely changes your interaction with the phone.

Used to swear by the stock Google AOSP keyboard, couldn't get used to Swiftkey at first but after 2 weeks of using it, I love it.

Touch Wiz Samsung keyboard autocorrect

Any idea why it doesn't even work with an international ROM?
Still doesn't automatically autocorrect for me.
EDIT: Oops this was supposed to be in Q&A sorry.
It doesn't auto correct period. Download smart keyboard pro or root and flash Xperia keyboard which has the best auto correct ever.

I think this is it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2196653.
I was going to install it but it has to be flashed and I don't have custom recovery installed yet.
I didn't read up on it so I'm not sure if its 100% compatible with the sg4 bit it is under general android forum.

I agree. But hey to each his own right.
The Samsung keyboard, even though it's a version of SwiftKey, is crippled without autocorrect so I just use the normal SwiftKey which is amazingly awesome. I thought I really wanted the always-there number row on the Samsung keyboard, but adjusting the key hold duration to ~200ms on SwiftKey makes inserting numbers nearly as good while taking up less screen space.

There is a guy in the VZW section who got the international S4 keyboard working with autocorrect. But the autocorrect lags.

That is a great suggestion for the SwiftKey keyboard. I have multiple keyboards loaded and find myself constantly switching back and forth. Different KBs have their pros and cons. I like the number key on the Samsung KB, but missing AC is not so nice.
Reducing the key hold duration per your suggestion makes SwiftKey much more usable for me. It's now back to my default KB.
Heh. The KBs I have on my GS4 are:
A.I. type KB free
AnySoftKB
Kii KB
MessageEase KB (never really got into this one)
Swype
Samsung (OEM)
Google voice (OEM)
TouchPal KB
SwiftKey KB

Keyboard is extremely laggy

Hey guys,
I just bought a brand new Nexus 4 from Google Play and I rooted it first with AOKP but now I'm on CyanogenMod. Within a couple of days my keyboard started to become so laggy that it just crashes while I'm texting or writing an email. I switched ROMs and I installed kernels to see if anything helps but after a few hours it gets back to the same problem.
I don't know if I should unroot it and go back to stock. Or what I should do because this is extremely annoying.
Any sort of help would be appreciated
Thanks!

Could it possibly be with anything else you install? I've never had a laggy keyboard before. Are you using the keyboard that comes with the rom or installing your own? I'll use either the stock keyboard or SwiftKeys.
Also do you have a large dictionary or other addons?

Thanks for your reply. I just have normal apps like Facebook and music players. I am using the keyboard that comes with the ROM itself, and no I don't have any addons or anything.
I'm really thinking about unrooting and then rerooting it again to see if that helps

I just find it weird because I've had absolutely no laggy keyboard at all with my Nexus 4 (with either stock/rooted or with this SlimBean 4.2.2), using either the stock keyboard or SwiftKeys, it's a pretty powerful phone too so even swiftkeys with it's predictions shouldn't become laggy. I suspect there's something else amiss especially if you have this problem on more than one rom.

lol, root isnt the problem. unrooting it will amount to washing your cloths because your car is leaking air out of its tires. but, it can be cm. 1st, try just deleting the keyboards data in the main phone settings, app, all, then delete the keyboard apps data. if its not fixed, then boot into recovery and wipe your dalvik cache and cache. if still not fixed, try a different rom or different keyboard.

(4.3)Solution for Swype keyboard not working

For those having problem activating the Swype keyboard on 4.3, just disable the 'auto replacement' option in the Samsung keyboard settings.

Back to samsung keyboard
I was kept using Swype for some year, then i changed to Swiftkey, but now im back to stock galaxy keyboard.
It seems the current swype keyboard is more accurate than the earlier version..... It tends to get the words more correctly as if checking the sense...
Swipe Keyboard not working
Being using Dr Ketan initial version for 3 days. Swipe keyboard doesn't work on first day, but 2nd day, it works again. Then on 3rd day...loosing it permanently. Thought of changing to Wanam V4 would have better luck. But same.
Too bad that Swipe keyboard not working. Hope the official release would solve this issue.

Swype keyboard sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. It's really random so it's kinda hit or miss if this will fix it for you.
The disappearing Google account can be fixed by doing a full wipe. I had this too and this fixed it for me.
Yes, it works now. Thanks for the info.
