No twitter notifications - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A couple months ago I went from a Galaxy to a Nexus 4, this phone is the master race! Everything's been perfect, I have experienced the problems but for me its just fun to flash zips, and try different things to fix bugs, unique features etc. So as the title states, I don't get twitter notifications. I had a problem with receiving push notifications a couple weeks back but I fixed it! I currently get all notifications from instagram, snap chat, path, Facebook, BUT I don't get notifications from twitter like when someone interacts with me,per say a mention or a favorite. Is this a bug in 4.3? Is there a workaround?

Same problem on 4.2.2. Been having this issue for months now. Every time I update the notification settings it just says "problem updating settings".. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling. Anyone know how to fix?

Sorry for bumping this, but it has been bugging me for a couple of months now too. Hope someone sees it and perhaps comes up with a solution.

Facebook instant notifications

Does your epic have instant Facebook notifications when someone postson your wall or comments on something you posted?

Nope. Also have a lot of issues with being notified of a comment but when I open the app it says I have nothing. Tweetdeck workedfine for a while but I got tired of it.

Yes, I've been receiving push notifications from the Facebook app. Didn't think they had em since there's a refresh interval setting, but apparently that's for everything including your news feed I suppose. You get push notifications as long as you have the "notifications" box checked in the settings.
Professor did you come from a blackberry to the epic by chance?
Anyone else getting push notifications correctly?

Nope, came from the Samsung Instinct... lol, hella lame phone.
While it really doesn't make sense to me, this is the experience I have had.
Facebook notifications work wonderfully for a few days after I flash a new ROM. They fizzle out and stop working and I forget about it. Then I decide to flash a new leak or SRF comes out with a new version and all of a sudden they work again for a few days.
I don't know why that would be, but it happens every time. I stopped trying to understand and just live with it.
honestly... stock, rom, whatever, I could never get FB notifications to work. is it because I have it being autokilled?
I would have no idea since I turn them off to save battery life. Actually they do work until one goes off after I flashed a rom. Then I turn them off.

My girlfriend has had 2 Blackberrys and I recently got her a Desire and the only thing that bugs her is how she used to get instant notifications from her Facebook app and now she doesn't. The only things that come to her phone as notifications are event invites, friend requests and messages. That's all I get other than through my email as well.
Didn't even know FB pushed notifications. As of now I get notifications to my gmail.
Mine just started working correctly a few weeks ago. I get an instant notification when someone posts, comments on my wall, or sends me a message.
Not sure why it started working but it did..
I'm not sure, but I don't think Facebook uses C2DM. If they do, then they really, REALLY need to fire whoever does the coding for it because it sucks badly.
Edit: Apparently they DO use C2DM, they just suck ass at implementing it.

[Q] Problems in sending a large number of SMS messages in Jelly Bean

I've trawled through Google and XDA to find potentional fixes on various platforms for Jellybean but I can't seem to remove this on JB. I've tried used GoSMS and alas, no such luck.
I've also got SQLite Editor and inserted sms_outgoing_check_max_count into the secure settings.db and still no success. This is really frustrating me as I do text a lot and I can't seem to find a fix!
Help would be much appreciated.
I remember that on CM10 there was an option to increase that warning till it reaches 1000 under Settings > Security
I hope it comes to CM10.1 because that bugs me too.

YES! Me too, thank-you for this thread.
I've tried the methods you talked about as well and nothing seems to work on the Nexus 4 version 4.2.1. (updated on Friday btw).
=(
Anyone have any success? I really don't want to use any other apps to text.
I've used GoSms but still had the same issue. The stock app won't send messages to groups which is super lame as I like the simplicity of it.

This is really frustrating. I sent a text to my group of friends at 7am in the morning and 10 hours later its still flagging the error and its unsent. I can't send any more texts :banghead:
Can someone please help?!

Anyone had any progress in resolving this?
Not in stock, as Google have done the right thing as to stop rougue apps sending SMSs in the background without your knowledge. OK, there should be the option to turn it off but tbh if you're sending that many SMSs why not just send an email instead? Or call? You'll get the conversation over in 5 minutes!!
My rule of thumb is more than 5 SMSs, call as it's quicker
I have large groups of friends and regularly text a lot on a weekly basis, calling and email is out of the question for such large numbers.
To justify this is madness I tell thee! Point being it's down right ridiculous and it has never been a problem before. I'm having to hit allow for 100+ text and its a huge problem
It takes best part of half a day to get these approved. I've tried everything out there still no luck.

Solution
I was able to use the max_outgoing... trick on my ICS phone but it stopped working on my JB phone. I don't know what's the trick but there is an app on Google Play that worked on my JB 4.2.2 phone - I'm not going to advertise it here but you can search for yourself. Bon chance!

Custom roms dont have this issue, but there is a solution... go find SMS limit remover. Don't remember if it requires root.

FriendCaster - News Feed Updates?

Has anybody noticed that Friendcaster does not stay as updated as Facebook on a browser? Some post are listed on Friendcaster and others are not. I've also experienced multiple reboots while using Facebook within Chrome.
Thoughts?
Heavy Android User, but have been using our iPad 3 and hate to has this but itching towards getting another. The one I had been using is for the wife and the little one.
I realize it may take time for apps to be fully defaulted for the Nexus 10 and that is why I may just need to be patient.
Thanks.
I believe this is due to permissions that people can set on Facebook that prevent third party apps from seeing their status updates.

No Notification for Most Apps

Had anyone had an issue where the N4 just won't give notifications for most apps? The notifications work for SMS and Gmail buy that's about it...
It doesn't matter of I'm on cellular data out Wi-Fi, and am running CM 10.1.0 Stable. Anyone know a solution or a reason for this?
Greatly appreciated
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
No haven't heard of that or know of a solution.
But as a member of 3 yrs you ought to know that questions go in the Q&A section. Please post your threads there next time.

Have you restored the app data using any apps? If so clear the app data for those apps (like facebook, whatsapp, etc) and relogin.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
As soon as I have less than 500MiB storage avaliable, my n4 begins to act funky, like dropping many notifications. Maybe that's what's happening to you?

Don't use TitaniumBackup to restore app data for apps that requires push notifications. I'd bet that if you clear the app data for all the apps that are suppose to give you notifications, your problem will be solved.
Going forward, try to only restore the apps themselves. Go ahead to restore data for stuff like games. But for apps like Facebook or instant messaging apps, just make the effort to enter your login details.

Fb app issue with the LG v20

So is anyone else experiencing issues with the fb app on their LG V20..?
Mainly my issue is related to stuff like. Images not loading.
Sometimes have to force close it and then open it back up in order for anything to load.
And my personal best, I can't even access the fb app menu screen where you can adjust your notifications and such.
That's all. Juat wondering if I'm alone on this or anyone else notice these things too.

Are you on a beta version of FB? I was having those issues with the beta versions and I couldn't take it anymore and left the beta test group and back to standard versions and it's smooth and no issues
mine works fine no issues at all

Go to play store, go to my apps, there will be 4 options - Subscriptions, Installed, All and Beta
If you're in beta it will be listed there. More than likely you're not since you actually have to request it.

In the Note 4 forums there was a lot of talk about the FB app and many people recommended Metal as a replacement since FB is problematic, requires an additional app for messaging, and a huge battery drain. I don't use FB but my GF loves Metal.
I'm just disappointed that we can't fully yank all traces of FB off of the carrier phones.
Maybe because the FB app isn't really ready for the newest Android version?
it could be the reason.

Been running FB on my Nexus 6p with Android 7 for weeks now......no problems. I'm switching to the V20 tomorrow, I'll see how it performs.

Gonna try out Metal and see how it is. FB is definitely a very power hungry app
Well, I Uninstalled it and installed it like 3 different times and finally it seems to be working better. Oh and now there's an update for the fb app. We'll see what that screws up now or Fixes lol.
