How to root without a wipe of the phone? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hello. My friend is trying to root his phone but is scared of wiping his phone. I just want to know if there is a way to root the s4 without wiping the whole phone.

You don't wipe the phone when you root it, at least the chain fire method.

Thanks! I searched but I was on mobile so maybe that's why I couldn't find it.

Yeah rooting doesn't delete anything as long as you follow the instructions.

as said, rooting itself does not wipe any data, but when you flash a rom, you need to fully wipe.

Well I made a backup with that carbon app and I'm gonna download the apps probably tomorrow to see if it works. Thanks for the link. Also I went a head and unlocked the bootloader and all that other good stuff.

Titanium backup?

Does anyone know how to pull an app and its data from tb? I don't want to root quite yet, but I desperately need a certain app that I previously backed up before my upgrade to gs4.

UnRooting is quite easy if you're on MDC. Just Google unroot Samsung galaxy s4.
http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-tutorials/how-to-unroot-galaxy-s4-and-remove-root-completely/ . I'm not quite sure if there is an unroot for mdl

You can skip the part where he talks about getting the update. This root worked for me. You can change recovery after you're done.
Warning: not sure if there is an unroot. You might be able to flash back to unroot but I am not sure. If anyone knows please say so.

[Q] flashing roms with odin?

Will verizons note 3 owners have to use odin to flash roms?
Flash back to stock, then yes or to root. To flash custom roms we need a bootloader work around or unlocked bootloader

Wish it was as easy to unlock as my old phone which is still pretty new (Galaxy Note 2) Adam outler made it very simple with his Creation of Casual one click. Thinking of returning my note 3 and going back to my note 2. Wish there was a DEV edition of the note 3.

Not everyone who roots flashes a ROM. I root so I can use battery saving apps that need root to force close some system apps. I use some apps that require root for a firewall or call blocking. Have you ever wanted to freeze pre-installed apps, or even delete then? This list goes on and on.

Galaxy S4 recovery of files

Good afternoon
I am from Brazil and I love my Galaxy S4 with android 4.3 it is a sensational phone. On the other hand I lost some files in it and I have been digging up ways to recover them. One way was through Dr.Fone. which required root for android 4.3, and I could not find any other solution. I was looking for a trouble free solution without root, but my best shot until now was Dr.Fone.
Do I have to root to recover those files?
Is there anyway I can recover those files without root??
If I have to root how do I do it?
I am newbie so sorry if I seem retard.

To recover deleted files using a mobile app, you probably will need root. There are good guides available on how to root your device. Start by looking here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4
But is there any solution even using the PC if necessary without root?

Not really if you don't use Knox you shouldn't care much. I think I'm about to trip it after two months on stock.

One thing people have been confusing lately is a soft brick vs a hard brick. They freak out when theirs phones won't boot past splash screen. When your phone won't turn on at all. That is when you are hard bricked and are pretty much screwed.
