You can port your att number over to Google then use Google voice to send text with your n7

I tried and Google voice said my number is unavailable for port so I can't do that

Not sure of what app you're talking. About but I thought there z10 can port apks over to use em.

Not sure if this will work or not, but check to see if Mighty Text - the app, is on Blackberry, if it is, install it, set it up. Then, download the Android one to the N7 and have fun. That's what I did and it works like a dream. I have two Nexus' though, so not sure if Blackberry has that app available or not but it's worth a try.

Recommend unlocked android phone for tethering with x-former / @&T service

No-contract 3g phone not listed with @&T. I prefer to purchase rather than be tied to a contract.
Want easy tether capability with transformer. But don't care about latest and greatest.
So you have service with AT&T already then?
Best option would be to get a Nexus One AT&T version. With it's stock Android, it has built in free wifi tethering. You just need a regular data plan with AT&T obviously.
DELL Streak and probably Dell Venue I have to assume would fit also
Desire HD works great so it would be the thunderbolt in the USA or the HTC sensation
ASUS TRANSFORMER PRIMED
Thanks for the suggestions.
Yes, I am already on @&T. I wouldn't use this feature except occasionally when traveling. Where I live does not even get 3 g yet. So I mostly use wifi with transformer. Occasional syncing calendar with google calendar is about the main use of "smart phone". Since I have transformer not much need of all the apps on the phone. Just like android so though I would upgrade from symbian.

Stop calling it "@&T" Because it's wrong either way "at and t" huh? It's A T & T, so if you want to make fun of AT&T at least do it right.

[Q] Possibility of porting Google Wallet?

I know nothing about hacking/porting/developing apps, but does anyone know the likelihood of wallet being ported to the Nexus 7?
Also considering the number of strange looks I get when I use my Gnexus to pay for stuff, how do you think people will react when I put my tablet up to the paypass?
I have seen at least one picture of a Google IO attendee using his Nexus 7 to pay for a burger, I think.

You would look rather absurd or YOU'RE HACKING THE PAYPASS SYSTEM!!!!
But in all honesty, it shouldn't have to be ported and it 'should' work. I mean the same Google Wallet apk worked on the Verizon GNex, International GNex, I presume the same apk is on the Nexus S etc. I might look a bit off (scaling and position of the icons, text and buttons) but functionality should still be there. The question is whether Google will allow for it to run on the Nexus 7.

I would laugh if I saw someone whip out a 7" tablet to pay for their food. It makes sense on a phone, but on a tablet? Metinks not.

Its completely impractical but it works. Something interesting that I found out though.... my nexus 7doesnt use the same prepaid google card as my galaxy nexus. I have two different balances on the devices.

Nfc uses?

I ordered a nexus, but I wanna know, what I can use nfc for?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
This is exactly what I was wondering but was afraid to ask in order not to look like a noob
I mean, I know the basics of the technology, but any good use? I mean, I don't care about NFC tags that I have to glue to my desk, because I already have a better way to turn on wifi automatically or do different stuff (i.e. Setting Profiles uses GPS or GSM location to do these things).
I mean - I have Nexus 7 and Note 2, which both have NFC. I saw some demonstrations concerning file trenasfer between phones and what not... But when I put my Note 2 onto N7, I only hear a beep and that's it... what has to be done i.e. to use NFC to transfer something between these 2 devices? Does this work in combo with Wifi direct?
D.
In am not sure if the note 2 uses the normal beam app built into android or not but I know if I put my nexus s or nexus 4 back to back next to my nexus 7 (nexus s to nexus 4) with say the gallery app opened up it will allow me to beam the image selected to the other device...you can also use it for webpages, contacts and other such shareable items.

You beat me to it
I like that dude's YouTube channel, so thanks for introducing me to it... Ah, Hackintosh, there's a scene I haven't been to involved with since the early leaks of the developer preview of 10.4.3 way back when... (I'm pretty certain I was amongst the first to get it booted on anything other than the developer platform, lol) NFC though, I've not really had much use for it. Got a few devices which support it, my partner's S2 as well, although trying to get the I9100P's party piece working in an I9100 CM10.1 ROM has been hit and miss. I should grab some tags to use for profile switching and app launching on my Nexuses (Nexii?), it seems like the only thing I'm likely to use it for in the short term, at least.
Nfc is a gimmick. I tried to send a pic to my cousin once using nfc. It wouldn't even send it... It said file was too large... Wtf its like a 25kb pic file... Seriously?
Gimmicks gonna gimmick

WIME Nano Smartwatch, looks nice

Interesting Android smartwatch here. It can actually be used as a standalone phone, bands are GSM/GPRS Quad Band:GSM 850/900/DCS 1800/PCS 1900 MHZ (can this be used on AT&T?).
What I'm not seeing is if it can be used as a dialer for your phone, so you can just leave it in your pocket and make and receive calls like the Gear.
What do you guys think? I'm tempted to get it just to play around with.

Doing some further reading, yes you can initiate a call to your phone with it, woot! It also has music over bluetooth and local storage. It looks like it has no speaker/mic so you have to use a headset with it, boo, but that's ok.

D'oh. I missed it, I went straight down to the pictures. Either that or the page didn't load completely the first time. Either way, thank you!
That's not a bad price point at all... maybe a mini server or media player...
Feature phone software, bleh.
Although I guess for 100 bucks you can't expect it to run Android.
Edit: Hmm, just noticed no where does it say there's a speaker built in...guess you have to use a headset to use it as a phone.
Also only compatible with Android 2.3-4.0. Doesn't say it works with newer.

Strange, I was also surprised by that 4.0 rather then 4.x reference. And I think you are right about headphone 3.5mm jack as the only way to listen to the music. Would have been great if they would include a camera in there.
Is it ok to say that it looks kinda...ugly?
Or is it just me?

Haha, first thing that crossed my mind when i saw it.
Dunno why but personally i find most smart watches just tend to look either dull, or just plain awful. Maybe it's because of the space they have to work with? Dunno :/
You guys realize it's a phone? It might be nice to have as a backup phone, or if I just want a tiny phone. It doesn't run apps, but I never had much use for apps on a 1.5" screen.
It's interesting, I may grab one just to play around with. It seems to have AT&T bands. I don't plan on using it like a watch though, it's too ugly like that. I'd just stick it in my pocket or clip it on.

We're fully aware. It's just between recent offerings like the Omate Truesmart and previous offerings like every chinese watch phone out there, this one seems like too little too late to really make sense right now.
If you want a cheap feature-phone watch check out what's available to get a style you like. This one is pretty big and ugly for what it does.

So I got one and got to say this thing is a perfect companion for a phone at work. Built in mic allows you to answer on your wrist and be like I'll call you back it also has Bluetooth audio out and wireless headset support. Weird thing is contacts and messages won't work without a sim has to have one active or not I'm on Verizon so its pointless to try lucky I had art laying around and it vibrates!! This thing is sweet to be cheap!!!

From the watch description:
Smart Sync Function: Can sync with smart phone, downloading phonebook and call history (iOS 4.0+ and Android 2.3+) to the device. When using Android 2.3+ OS, download and install the WiMe NanoSmart APK on the Android device and the NanoSmart will sync with the Android device (Google calendar events, new Gmail notification, call history, phonebook, sent/received SMS).
Have you tried to install WiMe NanoSmart?
I'm on 4.3 AOKP linario I can't say its bougus but the contacts sync but....... With out each and every number having the country code in it it refuses to call or message weird right? Gmail hasn't worked or calendar. I refuse to downgrade for it. I use this to get away with texting and calling at work via mini Bluetooth headset and a beanie lol.

Hmmm.. because it makes things 100 times easier. You can text from your phone, get home or at work and continue right from your computer.
It was googles answer to Imessage for the Gphone.
Also has video calling RIGHT from the app, no need to switch and hope the other person has something installed

I've gone back and forth, Hangouts sometimes takes a while to launch which annoys me since I drive all day for work and like to respond to texts at stoplights. I've just enabled ART so maybe I will see better performance.
As for texting on my other devices I've been using Mighty Text on PC, Nexus 7 and phone for a while. It is ok but reading a text on PC or Tablet does not clear it from the phone, I never tried Hangouts on the other ones.

OK we were at cross purposes, I thought you meant are we using Hangouts as our SMS app. Is it the best? Down to personal choice. I mostly use Facebook since that's what most of my family are on. I have some people on Hangouts but the main person I speak to on Hangouts I have spoken to for years, originally on MSN and then gTalk so now Hangouts.
Er... no. I find EvolveSMS much better, completely uninstalled hangouts from phone. ..
I tried using Hangout. I did enjoy it, however, am using new app and am much enjoying it.
