[Q] Suggestion on which ROM to use. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys.
I'm in a great dilemma right now.
I like TW but almost all custom kernels are giving me reboots every now and then. :/
Right now I'm using Adam Kernel which doesn't reboot on me, but I need more, like voltage control etc.
So I'm considering either using an AOSP or Google Edition ROM.
Because there are TONS of ROM's out there I'll need your help.
I'm looking for a ROM which:
A) Is completely stable and has little to no bugs.
B) Is not lagging on games, because I game a lot on my S4.
If I'm gonna use a custom kernel I'll definitely need another ROM.
Also I don't care if it's 4.2.2 or 4.3, as long as it's stable and get the job done right.
Anyway, can you suggest some ROM's based on my needs?
Thanks!

Anyone?
Come on, just post the name of the ROM if you're bored!

Best Kernel/Rom threads are forbidden on XDA , this will get closed soon.
And if you can't handle any kernel without reboots except for Adam Kernel (which is pretty much stock) then that tells me your cpu cant handle undervolting mate

Omega if you want a stable TW experience with some customization, MIUI if you want a completly new and awesome experience but can tolerate some issues popping up.
I run MIUI atm

First of all, this isn't a "best rom" thread, this is a thread for suggesting a good rom based on my needs.
Also I've had reboots without undervolting so your argument is a bit invalid I'm afraid.
Anyway, If you're not going to help I'd suggest you stop spamming the thread because I'm aware of the xda rules.
Thanks.

Echoe or WanamLite.

Have tried a quite a few roms atm using echo rom and ausdim v11 kernal. Stable fast and great battery life. GE roms are great. I recommend reading through the threads and choosing the first thing that grabs your eye. Enjoy

Guys, thanks for the help but I'm on Omega and don't want to switch to another TW rom.
I'm looking only for AOSP/AOKP/GE ROM's.
Thanks!

A "pick the best rom for me" thread is still a best rom thread. IBTL

Presentation, xda-noob :P

Hi people, I'm new here, I'm new on android, I have bought an SGS2 2 months ago and I was learning so much about android's world. I have rooted my phone with tutorials found here and waiting por JB update from Samsung... and tired of waiting I flash the Kaffee4eck aosp rom with aroma hehehe. Great comunity, great people over here, I am not a developer but I look forward to be part of this great comunity, I am learning a lot about this great phone thanks to all of you.
I m not sure if this is the right place for an presentation... excuse me if I am wrong.
I live in spanish, work on an ship in engine department and want to learn more and more!
Regards from Spain and sorry for my bad english,.. Kaffee4eck, I cannot post in rom's post because I'm new here, thanks for a powerfull ROM, its fast and smooth! but i think that's a issue with volume on headphones, volume is to low.
Which kernel are you on?
Are you using Extweaks? Extweaks has an option to amplify volume for headphones but I don't know whether it works with kernels other than Siyah.

I'm using dream kernel and no, extweaks not installed. I think that's an issue because on ICS stock rom, volume works loud on headphones.
thx
I have used Siyah with various ROMs without bothering whether the ROM and kernel are compatible or not. Luckily enough haven't had any problems till now but have heard of nasty things that can happen if they are not compatible.
You can search whether Siyah is compatible with your ROM and if yes, flash it through CWM. Install Extweaks and amplify volume. As always anything you do with kernel carries certain amount of risk.

looking on rom's thread I read that siyah isn't compatible, maybe phone can't boot. I will try if extweaks can run on my kernel
Nice, extweaks works properly with dreamkernel and the headphones audio boost works nice, thanks for you man ^^
Nice to meet you, welcome.
Cheers
Siyah kernal and Ressurection Remix rom goes well together, including extweaks , very stable IMO
ps: welcome to XDA
Glad it helped.

Hi
XDA is a great community, your english is fine, although the need to start a thread was not needed, and this thread has already started to break forum rules by talking about what Roms, Kernels, e.t.c. Thread Closed

[Q] Advice for a ROM

Hi guys...
I have a N7 16Gb from october and I think thare's not a real reason to change the rom on this device...except the tablet ui and the general fun to make it!
Well...
I'm not here to ask you guide etc. but an advice.
What custom rom do you advice? many talk about Paranoidandroid but I try it on an old Galaxy Scl and it was pretty horrible and unstable...but on nexus seems the rom most supportend and with much more feature...
Or I'm attracted by the Dirk AOKP that seem pretty good....
Beside this....it's difficult also the kernel decision...
Franco Kernel? or M3 or Trinity? I'm not interested in overclock...
thanks to all in advance
no one?
No one is answering because there are a ton of these threads asked all the time. There is no best Rom or Kernel. Try searching and see what features you like or what sounds interesting and then just install it and see for yourself.
I personally like the Omega 3 kernel, OC is optional and it has just about every scheduler/governor you could possibly want. Performance and battery life are pretty much on par with the other top kernels. I haven't tried any ROMS mainly because the 2 I flashed ended up boolt-looping. So I am using the stock with some pretty major tweaks. I am a DEV on other sites and once I jump through the hoops to be able to post in developer forums I will be posting my own ROM. OC is for people who don't know how to optimize. *cough*

Modaco custom ROM (currently version Jr13) is light, mostly stock, extra features that help me are- prerooted, enhanced power menu, tweaked youtube app for video preload, enhanced quick settings panel, comes with gapps etc.
Modaco cyanogenmod custom ROM (currently version r4) consumes more processing power, based on CM 10.1 so has all its features, prerooted, more enhanced power menu(with screenshot and extended desktop options), tweaked youtube, enhanced quick settings(devoid of vol control), comes with gapps, comes with cyanogenmod file manager etc.
MCR Jr13 and MCMCR r3 are interchangeable with dirty flash so I get to retain all my apps.
M-kernel (currently a33 version) gives me ample undervolting option (lp, cpu, gpu, ram), and I can set minimum brightness with rootdim, so I can extend my battery life.

Don't know why people make thread to ask others what's best rom, kernel... Answers will be different from users and depends what they prefers, so it'll be difficult to make a choice because every answers won't be the same. What I did when i wanted to choose was reading threads and try by myself to see what I liked. Sorry if my answer will not help you to choose but it's the best i can advise you. Hoping you find what best suits you.
Phone: GT-I9100P
Kernel: Dorimanx
ROM: 4.2.1 Vanilla RootBox
Tablet: Nexus 7
Kernel: M-Kernel
ROM: 4.2.1 AOKP PUB
MOD: JusTunBean
Xenon
Im usin Xenon HD its a 4.2 rom (aokp base) and it's very customizable for your likes. You should give it a try.:cyclops:
If you are doing any ROM other than stock, I suggest AOKP for sure. It has a ton of mods for your ui and allows a lot of customizing. Make sure you get 4.1.2 milestone version and get your gapps as well or you won't have necessary files. Hope this helps look in the aokp official thread for download

thanks to all...
all advices are really usefull to understand the mod world...
I was intent to install an AOKP rom, but I don't really understand the difference...
I would like to try the the paranoid but i think is AOSP...
for AOKP I don't know what rom to try...I see the Dirty AOKP but I'm not sure....
There's also one called smooth ROM check it out, you should search YouTube to see if you like it. personally I'm back to the to the 4.1.2 stock rom because on aokp it wasn't allowing me to install some APK's from the play store that i really wanted. it said they werent compatible with my device when I knew they were compatible with n7.. I wish there was a way around that but nobody on here would tell me if there was or not when i posted a thread asking... anyways hope you find what you are looking for and I do suggest checking YouTube first for custom Roms for nexus 7 before flashing over hella different ones it would take less time, peace and good luck!

I'm confused

My Dear community,
I've been around the xda forums since wm5 and progressed to android with 7 different android phones between back then and now.
I have my s4 now for quite some time and started of with the omega Rom which gave me some sort of safety because I was just flashing update after update. I was never satisfied with its performance and I figured it's because everyone is flashing custom kernels and optimizing their phones. I just don't know much about kernels unfortunately so always sticked to settings and kernels that came with the roms.
Then came along the 4.4 roms. I started off with jamals ge Rom and was happy with the increase in performance. Now he discontinued development and I just don't know what Rom I can take to have good performance and battery life.
Also what kernel can I take and most of all how do I optimize it to get speed and decent battery life.
What Rom kernel and settings configurations do you use? Is there a fool proof manual to follow to get optimal performance?
Please help me out here to get out of limbo. I'm romless and clueless
Thanks my friends!

hi there romless and clueless,
incase u don't know, such threads, asking about what kernel/rom/optimisations to try are strictly forbidden on xda...
u shud try all that urself and find the best combination that suits u most..

Hi there, old member!
Unfortunately, the only person who can help you get out of your limbo is you yourself, as what people may suggest what they think is "best"/"opimal"/"great" may not bear the same results for you. The way out, as said above, is to try out the various different combinations and settle on what you feel works for you
That being said, thread closed [as "best" rom type threads are not allowed on XDA]

1. If you want a rom with All In One S5 N3 S4 N2 apps and various tweaks then Tamirda's PhoeniX V18.5/18.8 is best option...you will not maiss anything there
2. If you want Stock N3+N2 then Dr Ketans rom is best
3. If you want N2+S5 only then MrLuong' s rom is best and themed (it has great battery life because of lite ver. and black theme)
4. If you want other than this then try DN3 or Phantom
I am CURRENTLY using PhoeniX and its greatest!

phantom Rom is The best for battery life and performance......:good:
i am a new custom rom user. my first rom is cyanogen mod 11 snapshot version for n7100. it seems stable and dont have so many bugs. if you want to experience pure android like nexus try it.

Cyanogen Mod is definitely not pure android. There are many many additional features not present in AOSP. Also it has a custom kernel which sets it apart even more. Nice try
Dr.Ketan ROM V7 is my 3rd rom.. a bit buggy but still a best rom from all rom i have tried.. now downloading the Dr.Ketan Custom control ROM V7.1..
Dr Ketan got V7.1 now

As someone metioned here. All depends on whta you want in your phone. All ROMs here are great and I have tested few of them. For me I look for the lightest RAM consuming ROM with Aircommand . I can say Phantom and X-Tream are the best for what I want.
Phantom rom have note 3 apps like snote etc? How about stability?

Stable ROM required for unstable daughter!

Hiya guys.
My daughter has sent me her S3 to repair (broken screen) and now that it's up and running again I'd like to root it and throw a ROM on there to make it as reliable as possible (so as I don't get it sent to me again! Any recommendations?
Kitkat would be nice but the main thing is reliability.
Thanks

For stability, it'd have to be 4.1.2 to 4.3. You could try CM, Omni or Slimkat for 4.4 but you'd have to deal with any crashes, glitches etc
Stock is still the most stable, but also the slowest. My recommendation is one of Archis pre rooted ones and some debloating.
Tapped with Tapatalk on my GT-I9300 running rooted and debloated stock 4.3.
Best Rom requests are against xda rules, as they can cause bad feeling. Best try them for yourself.

use archidroid 1.7.16.
speedest and most stable rom i ever tried
