Started seeing this a day or so ago out of the blue. Weird that we're all like a month apart. Still happening to you two?
I'm also stock 4.3 (JWR66Y)
Sorry if this reads as being short or frantic; just tired. ;]
Cheers.

Cacheupdateservice wakelock for me was caused by wallet. Also check to see you dont have anything related frozen or disabled in startup.

Anyone else have suggestions? Its killing my battery. No wallet installed, I uninstalled Keep thinking it may be that but it wasnt. I'm at a loss here.

Did you mess with startup services?

Had this issue on my G2. After much frustration, i ended up uninstalling google play services with titanium backup, then reinstalling them. To reinstall them, I uninstalled a google play app (google play music in my case) and reinstalled it. The play store then had me install google play services from there.
Sleeping like a baby since.

What exactly does that do?

Onmy side, he issue was caused by a profile manager (PhoneWeaver) and the usage of a location based profile that was constantly checking whether the phone is in the relevant location. I deleted this profile, restarted the phone and then everything seemed to be normal again.

Maps killing battery

I'm having an issue with my n7. The maps app that I never use is constantly eating loads of battery. Its always the second thing in the battery usage list. I never use it! why is it draining my battery?

I think its built to start up automatically during certain actions such as wifi being turned on. You should be able to disable it in settings > apps. If you're rooted, you uninstall it.

I'm rooted but I don't want to completely uninstall it. For now I have disabled location services, so I will see how well that works.

[Q] Anyone else having these issues?

This just started happening the other day. Randomly during the day it will not allow me to adjust the volume ( ie from vibrate to loud). The status bar moves when i move them but it doesn't actually do anything. Also when this starts happening, voice input no longer works. I cant do voice text voice searches etc etc.
I have to shut it down and restart it, then everything will work again. But it only lasts for a few hours and then i have to do it again.
I am stock and not rooted.
Thoughts?
It doesn't happen to me on my modded and tweaked Slim Bean Beta2. I would recommend doing a factory reset and see if that fixes your problem.

Maybe you have apps installed that control or manage audio

Could i use this backup utility found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36499906
factory reset my phone and then install that backup or would that defeat the purpose of resetting it.
I am not a pro at this obviously, i just do not want to lose all my apps and settings i have. Or would they just reinstall once i linked the phone back to my google account?

I did have one, but i uninstalled it and still having the same issues.
I'm having the same issue, stock ROM rooted with franco kernel.
Not only that, but the volume gets very low almost inaudible and I end up having to reboot the phone.
I don't have any audio apps installed, noticed this while watching YouTube.
Thus far have not found a solution

now it is not happening anymore and hasn't happened since Saturday.
Weird.
Will repost later if it starts acting up again.

Google Services Battery Drain

Today I noticed that Google Services is draining battery by using some services but unlike before it is using it a lot.
Did any one experience this strange issue?

I'm pretty sure that's one of the ways we can take in order to save a bit more battery, but then again, why are we buying high-end devices with GPS tracking for whatever apps or security as I have (cerberus app) or real-time mails of work, social feed, etc.
Someone will say that they don't need instant mails on the device or don't want the GPS; point is, having GPS/push notifications should not be an issue for any user since those are the features we can, want, could use..
Only thing I really miss on blackberry devices...
This did not happen before which makes it strange, well at least not having that much percentage.

X2. I agree, google services wasn't that bad for me before. But the last week or 2 its been quite bad. Im running rootmax v4 and am struggling to make my phone last 24 hours on one charge now, whereas before I could do it. GTALK_ASYNC_CONN.... is the bugger thats causing wakelocks for me!

Just to update on this. I done some reading online and found a few people mentioned that it was the latest play store update causing the battery drain. I went ino the app manager and deleted the update an went back to the original playstore apk that came with the rom.THis seems to have reduced my google services drain and my phone is lasting longer now

Well it's clear some app of yours is using Google Services. I would check which gApps are pulling or pushing data all the time. Check for things like notifications, social network updates (G+), etc. If it's not any of your Google Apps, then it might be an app or more that was downloaded from the play store which uses Google Services. Some that come to mind are games that use your Google account for scoreboards, achievements, etc.
You are not using the screen much which causes Google Services to seem to look like it is draining badly.
It is actually the GPS which is causing the battery drain, unfortunately you cannot do anything about it, even disabling the GPS does not help.

Thanks guys, and as you say I turned off GPS and that made no difference, and asuka how would I go about identifying those apps?
Perhaps I should add that this only began after I updated liquid smooth and moved from Franco to matr1x, my app list has not changed and this was not happening before, so something must have changed that I want to change back

Thank you for your help, in this case then, how come it did not occur before I updated my ROM and kernel? And out of interest does 4.3 solve the issue?

Google Play Services must of updated to the latest version which really causes battery drainage with CPU and GPS use.
Android 4.3 does not solve this issue unfortunately.

I can help a little with that.
Indeed is from Google Services, more specific, the Location service. I myself have spent the last week trying to see what is happening with this topic, and it seems that last Google Maps update came with an issue using Google Services. Then I tried to freeze and then to uninstall the app, but made no difference.
I made a clean install of Carbon with no sync from Google, so I could see what´s the source of such battery drain.
I discovered that the drain come specifically from an option in Location settings: Settings > Location Access > Wi-Fi & Mobile Network Location.
I left GPS Satellites checked and even with that, no more Google Services drain. All the drain come from the other option, and is more noticeable when you are connected to WiFi.
No need to disable other Location services nor other settings about locations, just unckeck that option and Google Services won´t even appear in the battery graph.
Hope it helps.
:highfive:

High Google Play services?

For some reason google play services seems kinda high... its the second highest on my list. I'm not sure what could be causing this.. any ideas?

That app is a hog! If you're rooted go ahead and make it a user app then greenify it. If you aren't rooted then Idk what you can do because unfortunately you can't uninstall it. :/

Make sure in the location services WiFi and data is unchecked. And you can also download betterbatterystats to figure out what the drain is also. Your battery should look like this. Screen should be the most used.

I turned off location services and location history last night before I went to bed, Seems much better. Google play services isn't even on the list anymore. I'll have to see how it goes today.
yeah, it seems every app wants access to your location.
i seem to have more issues on kk roms and none on TW roms like Golden Eye--may vary for others--
