Is there a way to enable tethering on my rooted s4 running mf3?

I had rooted LG G2 With Jelly bean and enabled tethering for my phone using SQLLite. Now since ATT pushed KitKat update, will i lose the ability to tether? Do I have to again root and update the database using SQLLite to enable tether after installing KitKat?
Or should I just update KITKAT and everything should work like before?

You'll lose root, and you'll lose the ability to install a custom recovery. It wipes out custom recoveries and reinstalls stock
I have att i337 4.2.2 ucuamf3 baseband rooted. I would like to upgrade to 4.4.2. I want to have a custom rom that will remove bloatware, increase speed, increase battery life, enable tethering. I want to be able to still use the infrared. I need to use apps like root call blocker and cerberus anti-theft that need root access.
What is the best way to accomplish this?

I'm on MF3 not MK2. Do I upgrade to MK2 and then follow howto from there?
Yup have to be on mk2 first
I rooted my GS4 a month back using the downgrade to NB1 method. The only issue was the Wi-Fi toggle button that I remedy through the nb1wififix (are there any new permanent fixes for this?) Aside from this probably being fixed by using Towelroot on NC1, what functionalists/fixes would restoring and rooting a fresh NC1 grant me in comparison to my current NB1 root?

Absolutely nothing. The WiFi issues was just with running 4.3 on the 4.4.2 bootloader because it didn't take the kernel modules without the WiFi fix. That still persists if you run 4.3 after towelroot, and really nothing else is different. Root is root, towelroot is just all at once and simpler.

Currently on a rooted (SafeRoot) stock MK2, with tethering enabled via this method.
I would like to upgrade to a rooted stock 4.4.2, but tethering is something I really need daily. From reading in the "All things thread" it sounds like you have to install Safestrap in order to tether, unlike the tethering method on MK2.
Can anyone clarify this for me?
Thanks.

My phone is i9505 from At&T. It is not rooted, and I have upgraded to 5.0.1. How do I root my phone now? o.o Thanks.

If it's a real i9505, use CF Auto Root. Otherwise, if it's one of the many devices showing up with an i9505 ROM but i337 bootloader, you'll have to downgrade to 4.4 and use the keeproot method. Go in to download mode and it should tell you the real model.
