Hi, I have recently bought a new memory card for my hd2. It's a SanDisk 8gb micro sdhc card.
I formatted in the phone then copied across all files from my old card on my PC. Everything is working fine, CoPilot long with other preinstalled apps as well as all the other .cab files I have downloaded over the last few months. With my MP3s loaded onto the card I have about 3gb left
The problem I have is when I load up my camera, it says I have enough space left for 5 more pictures! Tried switching storage location in settings, which changed to 23 (phone memory) and back again but I still have only 5 pics remaining - for some reason it won't see card properly but the rest of my phone functions fine. I took 5 pictures to see if it was just displaying wrong, but after 5 photos, I got memory full message
Please can someone help me resolve this issue!?! Thanks!
Try changing it to Phone Memory again, then reboot.
Then change it back, and reboot.
Does it change?
hi, thanks for the quick reply. just tried what you suggested but still no luck!
I've just deleted an old video from the DCIM folder on my memory card, which was 3mb and that has given me a few extra photos available.
it seems there is an upper size limit on the DCIM folder. Maybe I could transfer all my saved pics and vids to a different folder but that is quite annoying. Has anyone else come across the DCIM folder having an upper size limit? and would it be possible to increase this?

How big was the original card? The 2Gb one?
yeah it was the 2gb one, it came with the phone from O2. Forgot to say I'm running O2's 1.43 ROM
*bump*
Still no luck on this one short of clearing my DCIM folder on the SD card. Has anyone else had issues like this when using a new memory card?

I would try and remove the DCIM folder, and let the camera app recreate it.
Try out "Update for HTC HD2 SD Card Storage Cards" at: http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=297&cat=0&dl_id=825
hey thanks for the replies guys. Just installed the storage card update from HTC and that has fixed the issue. Forgot about that update so thanks for the heads up
Hi everybody! I'm using SS Galaxy S i9000! I like play game very much and i installed many games on it especially Dungeon Defenders (600 mb data OMG)! So my internal sd card's memory is too low (my device is 8 gb version)! I want you help me how to use data on external sd card! Thanks a lot!
If you are using Froyo, you can probably move the app to your microSD card. You need to check the preferences in the app to see if you can move the data to the microSD card. If you cannot move the data, then moving the app will give you very little benefit.

I means the data of apps! It's like game HD gameloft with the location: /mmt/sd/gameloft and i want to change it to mmt/sd/external_sd/gameloft. If you play game HD gameloft you will understand

I would love a reply for this.

Is this what we do in android development?
Just an idea: convert internal and external SD cards to ext4 (external should be easy, internal would be tricker but I believe that someone did it on nexus s forum) and create symlink folder from external SD to internal SD card.
What they are talking about is game data that is supposed to be stored on the external sd (because /sd/ is not usually used for the internal storage except for the sgs devices because it's way bigger than on most androids).
A symlink should solve their problem. How to do that shouldn't be hard to find.
But it doesn't require ext4 conversion. Converting both to ext4 would require modifications of the startup script in order for them to not have to mount the individual partitions every time.
Edit: the internal and external sd are fat partitions by default and I would recommend keeping it that way. Anything else brings significant complications.
As far as I know FAT filesystem doesn't support symbolic links.

I also hate idiots who post stupid questions in the Development section, and one of our opinions is supported by moderators. Guess whose it is.
Older Gameloft games allow you to specify where you want to install the game data. My Hawx game data is on the external SD. They seemed to have stopped supporting that though. Send them a email and see if there is a solution.
I'm also waiting for some kind of "symlink" tool!
Internal SD is too small for me...
I ran some searches on this topic when I also experienced low space left on the internal sd.
Apparently all those App2SD tools do not recognize the external sd card within the SGS when I tried them, I can only move the stuff to the internal card where the apps already are so no difference in regards to disk space.
Somewhere else I read you have to convert the sd to ext4 or something and do some other stuff to get this working.
Alternatively, it seems some custom ROMs support their own App2SD (never tested it, just read it somewhere), maybe it somehow works with those without using some ext4 solution, I don't know. Eventually I moved some videos (back from the days without an external sd) to the external sd and freed up space that way.
Concerning Ext4 - I also read that buzz.
But idea was - swapping internal and external SD, by modifying mounting sequence in kernel.
It's too complicated, and working solution was not founded yet.
Hi guys. I am aware that there are apps like app2sd to move apps from phone to SD card. How does installing apps on phone or SD card affects the phone? Does it make the phone faster or save battery life?

Hi,
It's all about internal memory.
Go to settings, SD & Phone storage and look at available space under internal storage.
If the ROM you are using gives you hundreds of spare MBs,then you don't have a problem.
When you install new apps, the spare space is used up.
If you are not blessed with loads of spare space, then you would consider moving apps to your SD card, and running them from there.(Try using SuperBox to move the ones you can)
Running apps from your phone is quicker.
It has no affect on your battery life.

-- makes the phone faster, saves internal memory , your phone has a small hard drive or internal memory like a computers hard disk, the more free space you have on the phone the faster it would read or function. correct me if im wrong tnx
Hi guys. Thanks for the helpful replies. Really appreciate it. Thanks again!
Hey
I put cyanogenmod 7 on to my kindle fire thanks to guys on here and everything was going perfectly but now that my SD card is full when i delete movies they disappear but the space isnt reclaimed back.
any ideas? i have unmounted and remounted the SD card, this has been an issue for a week or two now.
Much thanks
Have you used something like Disk Usage to see where the space is being used?
Sounds like the behavior of a a trash folder rather than truly being removed?
I mean you read alot of people say having an sd card slot doesnt matter nowadays with android since you cant install apps to it, etc. Or can you? Can you save your photos taken with the s4 to it? What apps are available to fully utilize the sd card? If you can share how you plan on getting around any limitations.

Photos can be set to be stored on the external sdcard. I also (on my SGS2/and SGS3) have it so my nandroid backups go to the external sdcard. Downloaded files go to my external sdcard. I can also out movies/music/or whatever on my external sdcard and play them. I can also use "Root Explorer" to move anything I want from my internal sdcard and onto my external sdcard. Even with a 32Gb external sdcard and the 16Gb internal sdcard I find that I at times fill up my internal sdcard and have to move MANY files/folders from the internal to external. I haven't put ANY apps onto the external sdcard since my SGS1 and haven't had the need to ever. I have never filled the allotted app /data folder on my SGS2/SGS3 like I did on my SGS1. When I used the SGS1 and moved the apps it made them work slower and caused issues. Again never had it on my SGS2/3's. So NO need to worry about apps moving. I have over 180 apps and no issues (Including downloaded app and system apps). But having a removable sdcard for movies and music has been my best usage. As well I do A LOT of modding on my phone and it takes up a lot of room. So I transfer the files to my external for that as well.

Thats good to know, so I dont know what those people were talking about. As if the sd card was unusable.
Same here, I have over 180 apps and have no space issues when it comes to apps. I take a lot of pictures and record a lot of videos, and that takes more space than anything. I put all data, including backups, ROMs, pictures, videos, music, etc. On the external SD card. There's a ton of space left on my internal card, so for me a 16gb model with an external SD card works great.
I store 12 blue ray movies on my 64gb microsd. Should be enough to keep me busy flying overseas.
SDCARD
Can the 64GB SDCARDs be used with the s4?
First, only guys? 2nd, I'd like to have the ability to enter a 1 character password at the android lockscreen in CyanogenMod.
Lol OK.
