[Q] Roaming ? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK so here is the story. I was recently helping my mother move, about 2 hours away from where I live. I have 5 phones on my ATT plan. 3 of these were there with me (mother, brother and mine). The other 2 phones are Galaxy S III's. They both had 4G and I had R ( i assume that's roaming). I am currently running stock 4.3 rooted with .84 radio. Before my N4 I had a SGS II and I never saw roaming there. So why am I roaming and they are not? I am going back there this Sunday, anything I should try so that I am not roaming? Any input is appreciated.

The N⁴ doesn't have the best antenna. My wife's Note 2 gets better reception than my Nexus 4.
You've got a SIM card, bro. Switch to your old phone when you go out in the sticks. That is, if you still have it.

Who is getting the GT-9500 for the media net AT&T plan?

I will be getting the GT-9500 even with out LTE so that it will work on my AT&T unlimited data plan.
That and from what I seen with both of my Verizon LTE phones or 3 if you count a replacement LTE for phone use over 5mbs 3g is not that big of a deal unless you are going to tether the living crap out of it or download ton's of stuff to your phone with a unlimited data plan.
But I also hate having to "fix" branded phone's full of junk ware. I would like to just have a phone that you don't have to flash a rom just to tether, because the one on the phone sucks thanks to verizon/AT&T putting theres on it or other issues that come with it.
Now is any one else going to do this?
The International Galaxy S2 (i9100) is pretty much one of the only Android phones that still works on the MediaNet plan.
The International Galaxy S3 and the International HTC One X have been swept a long time ago. I am sure it will be the same with the S4.
Sorry to say, but you will probably get put on a smartphone plan not long after you put in your microSIM card.

Dang it, well it looks like I will have to get the Verizon S4 then at full or cross upgrade. Thanks for the heads up, could have had a 500 dollar data bill or more.
I was using the i-9300 S3 on AT&T's medianet plan for a while and never got flagged. This was last year though. I just don't see the point when I have their LTE everywhere.
I have been on the unlimited 3g for $10 pan on 3 smartphones now. Most recently the S3 i9300 for 9 months. Never got flagged.
Not 5 hours after putting my SIM into my brand new i9500 S4 did I receive an email saying I was 'upgraded' to a smartphone data plan. That really sucks.
Anyone know how to fix it? If there is a fix. A different APN? Spoofing a non-smart imei number?
If not I can't justify the unsubsidized price of the octacore version and pay $20 more a month in data....

Is this an IMEI thing or a microsim thing?
I know AT&T supposedly does sweeps by IMEI, but it's just weird that it only seems that phones that use MicroSims are the ones that are affected.
Anybody try cutting their old regular SIM card to see if they still got flagged?
^ I know that's kinda a stupid question, but it's just weird that Micro Sim phones seems to be the phones that get flagged...

Wow.. That's interesting. I've been using my international i9100 since almost launch, and I've been fine. *knock on wood*
I was thinking about upgrading to the i9300 just because I've seen many say that they used the i9300 with no problems.
I'd much rather go i9500, but it appears that EVERYONE gets dinged as soon as they put their new Sim on those.
Also anyone know about Canadian phones?
I've been using a Bell Atrix since launch on and off with no problems too.
TIA for any help!...

[Q] Can I activate an I9500 on Verizon in the US

I just received (and opened) a new I9500 from Amazon that I intend to activate on the Verizon network sometime this week. After I did some research, I found that the I9500 does not support LTE. Is there a significant benefit to using LTE over a 3G network? Is it worth attempting to return the phone in favor of the I9505 (if possible)?
I'm kind of nervous now. I feel like I may have made a mistake, but I'm not sure and that's why I'm here. >.<
Next time I purchase a phone, I'll do things in the right order...

Yes i9500 is a good phone but still does not support LTE
LTE vs 3G deftnlty a difference in speed but 3g will cost less and battery friendly now
If u are ok with 3G i9500 is a very good device its ok if u dont change it also
But if u care to use many diffrnt Roms / CM10 build etc u myte wanna go with i9505

Yes, you should do things in order my friend and do your research. If you wanna use LTE on Verizon then get the Verizon galaxy s 4. Just came out not too long ago. And change the title of the thread while you're at it, it's misleading.

Err. How do you plan to activate I9500, a GSM device on Verizon to begin with?
I9500 is out and out GSM device. Forget LTE, it wont work on Verizon at all.
Huge difference. About 25Mbps worth of speed loss.
Max 3g speed is around 7 whereas 4g can go up to 100.
It hovers sound 20 in the UAE these days.

You are absolutely correct. Verizon just told me that I can't activate the device on their network. I'm an idiot.

[Q] n9005 x3 same problem in all brand new note 3

i had three note threes in last month all with same problem
unlocked phones. where the signal bars are when it loses signal
a round circle with a line threw it show on the signal bars area. now
when it finds signal again it will show up signal bars but when you
try and call or txt. it says. NOT REGISTERED ON NETWORK.
now these are brand new phones out of sealed boxs and three phones
in a row in past month hav had same issue.
i hav another note coming on wednesday now if the same is with this
fone what do i do. whats the problem.
i hav tryed many diff sims. tryed the sims in my iphone right nxt to note and
they work perfectly. tryed rebootin fones and messing with network settings
and nothin does it. this is beyond crazy whats happenin here
i had a note 2 last yr and it worked flawlessly with signal so any ideas.
3 fones same issue now 4th one comin this wk. ???
Hi, it looks like your phones are locked to a different network than the ones you got your sim cards from. Try to unlock them first. Your sim worked on iPhone because your iPhone is officially unlocked. Hope that helps.

[Q] Horrible Coverage

I recently switched from an iphone 4s to the new galaxy s5 and the side by side comparrison for signal is terrible ( same network with rogers) my old iphone never had a problem and the s5 is ****e! i have taken the s5 off searching for the lte network because i dont have it where i live with no improvements. is there anything internal i can do or get done to the phone to improve signal? Rogers has absolutely no answers for me!
thanks in advance
I don't think it's because it is s5 necessarily ) I have full all the time with 3g and 2 lines all the time with 4g/lte
Maybe u have aluminium case? Or give it a try with software update... Flash newer bootloader and radio... Or factory reset

Use Verizon or T-Mobile S5?

Hey Everyone,
My friends girlfriend dumped him and gave him back the phone he bought her for Xmas last year verizon s5. He gave it to me because my nexus just broke. It works fine with my tmobile sim, but would it be best to just sell it and get a tmobile version? Only thing that bugs me a little is the Verizon sim activation notice when I restart the phone and sometimes data will hop around 4G lte, h+ and h.
