Just came from a GSII with a 4.1.2 nightly and learning the ropes of this phone. Really loving it and the unlocked Nexus world, but as a techie, even i cant find it. Maybe i overlooked it.
Can anyone assist? thanks!
bump? anyone?
It's not included in the stock camera app, you have to use a third party camera app to use it.
you dont need an app, just get in close, or zoom in. look in the post your n4 photos thread in the general section, i post lots of macro shots
Macro is always enabled. Once you get really close the camera will adjust for macro.

I am gonna resuscitate this thread because I was wondering myself. Maybe it's an issue of auto-focus then. Whenever I try to snap a small item not immediately on the surface of a large item, like a small flower or an insect on the foreground of a plant, the focus is almost always on the background because it's larger. How do I focus on the small item? Is there a third party app for that or perhaps some trick on the stock camera app?
I am on Android 4.4.2 rooted.

There is no zoom in the Nexus S camera application.
There's a thread on here a couple of weeks ago discussing this. Many pointing out that digital zoom is just cropping of the same image so a wasted feature since you can crop on your own; still, a nice (and missed) feature if you want to send a pic from the phone where you can't get close enough to frame the way you want and you want to send/upload straight from the phone.
I'm not sure if 3rd party camera apps will let you zoom or not, but you might try a demo version of one.
Thank you so much for the reply i thought my phone is broken.
Ya, no "zoom" but meeh it doesnt matter its only Digital zoom
Use Vignette! It's my favorite 3rd party camera, with tons of options and cool mods, allows you to zoom or crop, but has no front facing camera support. But otherwise, it's great.
Thank you
This has been bugging me somewhat from the beginning, but just recently I've been taking a lot of pictures, and this issue is simply unacceptable:
I think the autofocus algorithm of Evo is broken. It just doesn't seem to focus properly - you can see the image going sharp, and then the Evo almost always focuses away from that sharpest point. The result is that 4 out of 5 pictures will come out unnecessarily fuzzy.
Any ways of fixing this? Maybe a different camera app, or a custom kernel?
Yeah, the auto-focus in the camera app blows. the CM camera app I had when I had the nexus had tap top focus, but the evo version does not. I now use vigenette app to take photos. the auto-focus there works much better.
What ROM are you running?
AF on sense camera app sucks

Vignette provides superior focus. Thanks.
When using the sense camera, uncheck auto focus and face recognition... it makes a world of difference. My pics always come out super sharp and clear regardless of light conditions.
well my camera is buggy and I dont think its the apps fault. sometimes you can hear it focusing even when camera app is not being used. I took my camera apart down to the eye, applied light suction with vac, cleaned both lenses on both sides and now it works like a champ.
camera problem solved
Thank you! You just solved my problem.
My camera had purple grainy lines when trying to focus. I was about to send it in for repairs.
You sir just saved me a trip and the unbearable agony.
you are a gentleman & a scholar.

I'm having trouble taking non-blurry pictures on with default camera app. Is there a setting I can change to make it better? Is the auto-focus on the Galaxy S4 really that poor? It seems like even the slightest movement or hand tremble results in blur. By contrast, I downloaded Camera Zoom and the pictures with that app are much clearer. I also never had this much trouble on my Nexus S.
I'd rather use the Samsung camera with the better layout and additional features, but it's practically impossible for me to take a non-blurry picture. Anyone having this issue or have any tips?
(I took the plastic off of the back camera already)
Double check and make sure anti shake is turned on. With it on it helps prevents blurring.
I love the 90s. Good times.
Not currently having any issues with the camera. I'm able to take perfect shots almost every time unless I'm extremely close to the subject. Are you using camera auto mode? What are you trying to take a picture of? Light conditions? How close are you? Try backing up from subject a bit and using the zoom feature.
i think many of you z1c users have experienced the problem of bluring in a image especially taking photos of landscapes and sceneries .. in which details matter the most.. A 20.7 MP camera is expected to fulfil the need of clarity and detail to some extent when it comes to these photos.. The problem with Sony's official camera app is that it blurs some parts of the photo and give us a somewhat blurred image.. This however can be solved using a third party camera app... I have used two of them (camera fx and procapture) both giving better result than sony's official camera app.. I dont know whether z2 camera app has solved this or not but for now a third party app is my best bet to get the most out of the the camera!! Will post more camparitive photos in the coming days..
I have also noticed this blurring. I tried camera zoom fx, but for whatever reason I can't stand the UI. So I have been using Camera Fv-5, it is an improvement, however I will be trying more.

Did somebody try the new Z2 Cam App? Its available for all xperia devices.
Probably there are some improvements.
Didnt tried it because of the libraries were not available for timeshift and 4k video.. Many people are working on it on Z1 forum.. Hopefully will see it soon.. And more importantly.. I hope this blurring effect is solved..

I did try, but the camera module looks exactly the same. Could be something with the libs, but it doesn't really matter. The pics are still blurred.
Can someone post examples with stock and third party app? I don't see the bluring in my pics.
I went to a retail store, and z1's photo have more details than the compact.

In different app, but equal setting:
ZX1C focus/defocus
In my opinion the stock kamera app doesn't right focus setting.
Camera FV 5
After the recommendation of many Camera FV 5 users.. I gave it a shot.. and I was not disappointed.. The customization and the result stand out from all the other apps.. focus is pretty damn good and no more blury pictures.. and no details ignored.. only day time test left.. night samples are better than I expected!
Is there anyway to change which camera app opens from the lockscreen. I want FV5 to launch from the lockscreen not sony's app. I'm running stock KK.
VSCO Camera is pretty good. I am also wondering from the post above if there is a way to change the default camera on the lock screen.
Snap camera is one of my favourite.
REKOGNÍZED KONYHABÚTOR
you should post more various pics (8MP/20MP) from other apps, gives a better idea. the first post pic isn't exactly clear in either shot

Try to play with iso settings tray iso 50 or 100 for 20.7 image
Hi all,
besides some blur on certain conditions(low light) what I most regret of this 20mpx camera on the Z1Compact is that all pictures looks like washed out, like without proper contrast or white balance is incorrect.
I have tried in Manual Mode with ISO 50, 100, 200, also moving the exposure control on the screen, white balance in automatic and also 'sun' or 'light bulb', most of the shots don't have vivid colors.
I come from Samsung Galaxy SII, then I had S4, then a Note 3 ... (then I realized that big phones are not comfortable to carry in the pocket all day and switched to Z1Compact), all Samsung phones had different colors on taken pictures, more vivid.
Any advise on how to take better pictures with Z1Compact?
Thanks.

Having owned both, the Z1 *looks* like the photos are better because the screen has higher resolution (1080p), but in reality when you load photos onto a computer, the Z1C is distinctly better.
Also when I changed my back case from plastic to glass (which also replaces the glass over the camera lens) I noticed a small improvement in sharpness, particularly in the corners.

Hi,
where did buy the back cover replacement? Can you share a link or PM me the link if you're not allowed to post it in the forum?
Thanks.
I have 'Snap' running on CM12 and I'm initially very impressed.........opens up the 20 meg Cyber-shot camera ability nicely.
RAW file access would be nice so we could then import to a hardcore editor on a PC....and I'm sure that wouldn't be too difficult to sort out with an update.....but for a few pennies it's way way better than the google camera app that comes with CM12.
Have you tried using the Camera2 API in snap? I cant tell if it makes a difference or not...
In .242 fw doesn't work the Camera2 API...

I'm interested in manual setting for the camera apps. Anyone tried proshot on their 6p? How is it? any problems? limitation?
What camera apps are you using?
Thanks
check this review, it seems pretty good

Hi! I'm the dev of ProShot. Feel free to ask any questions
To answer yours:
1) No limitations (except for exposure compensation, Google sadly removed that from the Nexus line earlier this year)
2) Working on a bug fix for the upside-down-oriented image sensor. Hope to have that live by the end of the day
I've been using it since it was featured on phonearena. Its a nice full featured app. I just don't think the 6p camera has lived up to the hype for me.

i downloaded the demo, looks pretty neat. Much more easier to use than Manual Camera. Planning to buy soon!
Hi,
Is there a way to lock the white balance and the focus? Cause I found a little bit annoying when the app is changing the WB all the time during the capturing process.
Thanks!
I have it, but wish there was HDR. Without it I don't use it since it makes a big difference.
No, HDR on Proshot?
Well I hope not.
Leave HDR and any such post processing for Lightroom,CaptureOne,Darktable,Aftershot, (maybe even the not-so-optimal Photoshop) etc... the source file for those programs should be as clean as possible second to the data that went out from the camera sensor. Thats the whole point of any RAW format, that it leaves room for more post processing.
If you need to do instant HDR within there are plenty of apps that does all the "cooking" into a fine ready-to-go JPEG.
Anyway, would be nice to se a sale campaign on this, I just fell on this thread accidentally.
how to quick reset?
