Samsung is known to be slower than most when it comes to updates for all of their devices. Its been like this for years and is not likely to change anytime soon. On the flip side, when samsung finally does realease updates, most of the time they are generally less buggy and are more stable than others.

Jutley, Perhaps you should have done a bit more research. Samsung is notorious for being slow with updates. I purchased my Note 8 after returning my Nexus 7Gen2. I knew it would be a while before I saw 4.2, 4.3 etc..... but I'm okay with it. This is a great device.

As if it's going to revolutionize how you use the tablet when you get it...

Go buy a nexus if updates are that important to you. Then go cry when you realise just how revolutionary the s-pen is and that the Nexus doesn't have it. S-pen functionality is far beyond anything that Android 4.3 has to offer.

Even getting a few apps2SD is worth it to me.
I haven't noticed much bad in 4.2.2

Well I'm not holding my breath for it. I remember having the flagship Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 using Honeycomb still while my Nexus was on Jellybean. It did finally get Icecream sandwich but nothing more. Samsung will get around to releasing 4.2 eventually. Within the next two years I'm sure...

@janjannsen99 : You are mixing up your devices and genders.
1.The original flagship Galaxy Tab 10.1 never got Jellybean. There is still a petition for it on the first page of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 forum:

You are probably thinking of the second generation Galaxy Tab 10.1 which I don't think was considered flagship anymore, but I'm not sure about that.
2. Women don't appreciate being called "Sir".

Jelly Bean coming to Note 10.1

From http://www.theverge.com/2012/9/24/3381542/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-android-jelly-bean-update-device-list:
In an email from Samsung to The Verge, the company has announced that it's updating its flagship Galaxy S III handset to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, starting today.
...
As well as detailing the update for the Galaxy S III, Samsung also released a full list of devices that will be upgraded to Jelly Bean. The list includes ten phones: the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Chat, Galaxy Ace 2, Galaxy Beam, Galaxy Ace Plus, Galaxy Mini 2, and Galaxy S Duos; four tablets: the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Galaxy Note 10.1; and an unknown device, the Galaxy Music (we've reached out to Samsung to confirm the mystery device's identity).

Lol. Yeah if I were Samsung I would roll out my OTA to Poland first as well. No need to take care if the third world countries like THE FRIGGIN USA!
Anyway its looking close.
I'll be happy if the OTA just fixes the palm zoom bug in s notes. Drives me NUTS!
** With JB released I am hoping we will get some more action in non AOSP rom development.
** Anyone who is rooted I suggest you wait to hear from the Devs if the OTA is root safe before flashing it. Give it a few days and Entropy will likely post a root safe version in Development. Many rooted users that flashed the last OTA without it being tidied up a bit ended up losing pen functionality - raises hand in shame

I'd say unroot the device by flashing stock Rom with odin. Gets rid of root, cwm and allows you to get the update. Simple enough.

Some of the features will be available on the Nexus 7, some won't and you'll need to get a whole new device costing a small fortune to get the full update. It might break things along the way without giving you a way back.
....but then I remember it's Android and not Apple!

Being part of the whole Nexus line, there's a good chance we'll get 4.2 pushed out when the Nexus 4 and 10 get released. Google will be keen to have its flagship line all under the same version.

I agree. Google made it pretty clear (to me at least) that the Nexus line will be receiving the 4.2 update. There was absolutely no mention of Nexus 7 not receiving certain aspects of the update. I would say that Nexus 7 would receive the update the same day the 4 and 10 are released as well.

Got a reliable source on that? I'm guessing no because it's not true. Google has never released an OS on the day it was announced, and when they announce a new device, they never release the OS for older hardware until the new device is available. So the correct answer is to expect the update in the weeks following the N4/N10 release. Hopefully it will be out within a week, but it can take longer.
Google has said they will start rolling out 4.2 from Nov 11th, 2 days before new devices release.

I agree. People may also see that the tab 2 is a second generation of the tab and think it is the superior product. Not everyone is tech savvy. I personally think Samsung is prepping a Note 2 10.1 to be announced in January that'll come preloaded with Jelly Bean. We may not see an official JB until then.
That's what my money is on. They just don't care about existing customers.

The Note 10.1 was introduced in August so there won't be another until next year. This is what Samsung does also with Galaxy S series, Note etc. Sorry for saying but there is no need to become paranoid due to the delay.

Now that 4.4 is out how long do you think it will be till we get it?

Not really fair to be honest. Every Samsung device I've had got at least 1 major update within a few months of its release. It's the the older devices, ie note 2, s3 that will wait ages or not get it. The S4 + Note 3 will get kit kat by January if history repeats. Also in the past Samsung have denied updates to older devices due to hardware limits, Google are claiming kit kat can run happy on 512mb Ram so who knows, maybe old devices might just get a break (pun intended, sorry )

Until Note 5 release, Samsung after sale service is horrible. Don't dream about you will get KitKat within a year.

As always, samsung is super slow with updates, so don't bother in at least 6 or 7 months, and even with that, the note line is never the first one, so probably S4 and S5 will get 4.4 2 or 3 months before the note.
Saw someone quote a samsung rep tweet about them being more concerned about getting most of the older devices to 4.3 first. And about note 3 having to wait at least 2 months for 4.4

on other news, HTC pledges to get 4.4 out to its HTC One in 90 days, Google Play Edition, in 15 days...
would be nice if Samsung could make and keep to a similar commitment
This is one thing, coming from iOS which is absolutely mind blowing how Samsung doesn't give a rats ass about being up to date. Why own a Android device that runs old software 1 month after buying it and not be allowed to update it.

i dont think its going to be within a month but i ve had all the notes so far. i717 original galaxy note shipped with gingerbread(2.3)
got updated to ice cream sandwhich 4.0.4( i believe) and than got updated to jellybean 4.1.2
note 2 was ics→4.1→4.3 coming in next month
the updates come but they are slow......But we do have a secret weapon... XDA woot woot!
I wish it was faster but to be honest doesnt really matter to me since im just gong to mess with
They did sell a significantly larger amount of Note 3's in a much shorter period than previous Note devices. So who knows? We had 4.3 well before the flagship S4...
As for the N2 (and S3) still lagging behind, that's because they skipped 4.2.

To quote Engadget :
Update: There's still no official word on why this is the case, but sources close to the company have pointed the finger at a different hardware issue on the Galaxy Nexus: its Texas Instruments-built chipset. The company is out of the mobile business and as such isn't in a great position to give the support necessary for continuing OS upgrades -- presumably some of those 1,700 employees let go in the shift away from mobile could have helped. Now we'll have to see if the community can pick up where the corporations left off or if this is the end of the road for the Gnex and its other OMAP-based kin like last year's Kindle Fire HD, Nook HD and Droid Bionic.
Seeing as we're talking Samsung devices here, I think we should be ok

The note 2 actually came shipped with 4.1 jb.
I don't really know about the fuzz with updates. It's not like apple pushes em out on a monthly basis, only when needed. Same for Samsung, people should stop whining about fast updates, making them work etc takes a lot of time. If they release it early and there are a few bugs people will whine about that.
If the phone works and it does very smoothly here under 4.3 why do you instantly need an update?

Could someone (in theory) create a stock google 4.4 rom for our Note 3?
I know stuff like eye detection and the S-Pen and god knows what else wouldn't work..
AOSP roms won't be out for a while until Samsung gives the community the binary drivers.
Samsung are slow at doing, only in Oct did they release the binaries for S4 6 months after release.
In theory you can download 4.4 and cook your own rom but without drivers from Samsung it won't be stable or certain hardware will not work at all.
If you want the latest and greatest Andriod then you should have brought a Nexus phone.

i don think so, we have been told no air commands in this update
Yes, in this one, but there will definitely follow some more updates, just remember how many 4.1.2 updates we've got. Just joking and if not-Note4 will be out next year

Samsung disapoint me... I will never buy a Samsung phone
You should have never expected to get the Air Command feature in the update.
OS Updates are guaranteed not feature updates. If Samsung starts giving feature updates in old phones that too for flagship features like Air Command then who is going to buy Note 3?

Don't know about that.
But yeah, the times are different now. If cos have to sell newer models it's only on the features. Hardware upgrades cannot be a selling point for the foreseeable future. :good:
But I agree that Note 2 should have got some Note 3 features.
I think we will get Note 3 features, but we will have to wait. We have to do it now with 4.3. Other updates with Note 3 features will come for sure.
Samsung loyalties end.... moving to nexus 5 cheaper and faster updates....

That is not a solution. We all spend a lot of money on these phones, it's Samsung job to provide the features in the update!!!! This would be just an excuse for them not to provide the feature in the update because we can root and use a custom rom.
Its easy..why put that on a older device when note 3 is new and they want to sell it ...and so it is a special feature that u only get by buying a note 3...or install the custom rom.
Would not be smart business move
When u already here on xda dont cry ..root & flash and be happy for that we r here
Maybe it comes official when note 3 is on market for some time.

So question why would you purchase a phone from a company for $700 to $800 knowing that if the manufacture came out with a new version of the phone they wont fully support your phone with OS update and feature updates! If I knew Samsung did business like this I would never purchase their products. What other manufacture practice this method. From what I can recall Nexus gets their full updates, Sony gives full updates, LG & HTC gave full updates. Samsung can go and *F* off. I work to hard to spend $800 on a product knowing that the greedy ass manufacturer don't want to fully update features on their product, knowing damn well that the product fully support the update.

What type of hardware constraint would stop the air commands from working. The air commands are already working in custom roms!!!!!
