Will do!!! NCS showing current(stock) software out of date. Unfortunately I have to go to work and the package is 4.12 GB. Taking forever!!! haha... If someone gets this first please let us all know your findings.

Fantastic news! This is indeed GDR2/Amber! Screenshots below, let me know if anyone wants to see/know anything else
EDIT: This also allows you to set the screen time out up to 30 minutes (no more 5 minute nonsense)
EDIT 2: And group MMS is back!

YEa but, No FM radio

Has anyone actually downloaded the ffu? I'm wondering if its just turned off in the registry, just needs a SMALL tweak to turn it back on.

It seems to be both software disabled and hardware unable.
From the looks of it Nokia/VZW did not run the wire from the chipset to the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Somewhat confirmed at http community.verizonwireless.com/thread/803729
I hope someone can confirm this with an actual disassembly of a normal 92x and the 928.

I'm not sure what you mean by "uninformed copout".
Also I did get what Neo replied by email before the mod wiped the thread.

As I mentioned on another thread here at XDA, If we can get the software side of the disabling re-enabled, I can work on the hardware side. I have the tools and the know how. I'm only short on WP8 rooting/hacking. Last time I loaded a rom was wm6 on the sprint htc mogal.

What I meant that the response was the easiest to assume; while that's most likely not true. Check my WP8 FM thread.

Voice Calling for the Shift?

There is a utility in Windows XP called "Dialer". You can configure it to use the modem connected to the computer to make voice calls. It is located in the folder Program Files\Windows NT:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...ddocs/en-us/dialer_whatis_intro.mspx?mfr=true
In the past, I have used dedicated modems over land-lines to place voice calls using Dialer. In theory, wouldn't it be possible to configure this same utility to place a voice call with the wireless modem built-in to the Shift?
Does Vista include this utility? If not, couldn't it be easily copied from an XP machine to the Shift?
Why
the shift will inclue voice dialling out of the box so not much point to your suggestion but thanks all the same
according to some reviews there are NO Voice capabilities in Shift!!!
Some news reports are wrong.. and no one has seen a production device yet Htc only just got the FCC approval for voice on a device that is the exact same form factor of the shift and the people that are making the device have leaked out to people on these forums (a few weeks ago) that it does deffinatly have voice and gps which has now being confimed (the gps was confirmed about two days ago by a MS worker)

thank you. yes voice and gps.
Hmmm. So when the official European HTC website, Shift section lists both the full Users Guide and Quick Start Guide && When neither mention the GPS or voice capabilitiels.
WELL
If they are included then HTC should re-write it's manuals.
i agree
and im sure they will update it now they have the full licence from the FCC to distribute the dev ice with voice capability
A little review to look at!

Oh yes he does but... look at the date the video review was done its about six months old it almost predates mmobile fones (lol) and the review is based on a very very early rom since this time gps has being confirmed which is not mentioned as it wasnt known back then and ohhh look htc have put the release dte back to january so who knows what there gunna change??????
yes it has gps 100%,but under vista with what software?
there is not clear until now.
for now use tomtom google maps or whtever in WM6 and once decent gps software is avaiable for vista get that instead!!
FCC approval is only for US market.

Yes but if ur going too release something this good to the world is it not better to have approval in what will be one of the biggest buyers for the product.. it makes sense to me and 100% of computer devices i have have the fcc approval but i live in uk.
The user manual is available to download from HTC now and there's NO mention of voice capabilities whatsoever!
Sucks ass big time - this was my only hope of having a decent PC and phone - looks like the flybook is a better (but much more expensive) option as the new ones have faster HSDPA and voice!
If you read on Mobileplanet, they spec gps for the US Version but not for the european version. Is this true there fore we should wait for the US one?

Even bangelboy, if you check his website, was not sure that cell phone services would be part of the final production model, although he was hopeful that it would be. Yet, all HTC indications in all their documentation is that cell phone services are not included.
Yes, the hardware is there, but there are some problems, perhaps legal patent rights, that are stalling what we want the HTC Shift to perform. It might still be a case for XDA developers to work out.
I would be happy to have the assurance of your sources, as the evidence at this point seems not to be favorable. It is good for you that you have faith in your sources, but without ascertaining their veracity, out of the box, it is hard to believe the Shift is configured for cell phone service. Would you care to share your sources with us?

Q-Mobile MusicID QVGA

I know, I know...I'm late to the party. Hopefully the quality of the release will make up for the tardiness. I'm still running a Kaiser (just couldn't convince myself the Diamond was actually better--and I'm still crossing my fingers that the Touch HD will get released with TMO 1700Mhz support).
Anyway, without further ado...this version of MusicID is based from the 1.3.16 source from 1800pocketpc.com which is of course released by AT&T. The changes are as follows:
Converted for QVGA (320x240) support. The conversion was done using image resources from the non-touch screen version so they look just fine. Furthermore all fonts have been converted as well. (I'd like to give credit to lepsyfou here, he did give everyone something to use at least even though the images looked poor and the fonts were large. Were it not for finding his original conversion that got me hooked on the app itself I probably never would have made my own conversion).
Removed UID information from query strings. For those that didn't check, the application for download on these forums (and other sites) actually makes all requests under the guise of someone's account (presumably whoever released the app). I won't post their account # here but suffice it to say that if they ever shut off the service everyone using that app would find it stops working. Hopefully that won't happen here.
Removed all AT&T specific features. This also means that all the buttons present after a successful identification have been removed. #1 they are completely useless for anyone not on the AT&T network; and #2 they were pretty much pointless (from my perspective) in the first place. As a side benefit see the next item.
Due to the removal of AT&T specific features I found it convenient to download a larger cover image photo for the album...maybe this will be enjoyed by others as well
Updated the help pages and removed redundant (or now unused) entries.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
If you've never installed any version of MusicID before simply install the cab. If however you have installed a previous version pay close attention:
Remove any previously installed version of MusicID.
It is absolutely MANDATORY to remove the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\MusicID folder and its contents. If you're an advanced user and are using any of the conn* entries you can leave those but remove all others. If that last statement doesn't make any sense to you then simply remove the entire MusicID key (and all entries contained therein) prior to installation.
I highly recommend removing your \Application Data\MusicID folder and contents. This is due to the fact that the application now expects 150x* size images. The only issue with old images should be a slight off-center display though so it is up to you.
Appreciate the hard work!

Nah, there's plenty of pictures in reviews and other forum topics. Just imagine it looking proper and working well on QVGA screens and you've pretty much got it. Most of the hours I spent were on the under-the-hood modifications not the visual aspects, the latter being quite easy (relatively speaking).
awesome work... looks great... except for the hideous purple and orange parts... but thats not ur fault, i blame at&t for that....
one question though... did you remove the album info on the id? i thought it was there before...
oh, and the album art is much nicer now... thanks!
p.s. the program seems a LOT snappier now too

Hi, thanks for the cab, one question this is for tactile screen or non tactile?

Great work. The fonts, touchscreen and album art are perfect.
One correction for your first post: the key to be removed is HKLM/Software/MusicID, not HKLM/MusicID. That might confuse some people.
Wow... works great. Thanks a lot.

[UK] TVCatchup.com let them know you want a WM application/webportal

Hi guy's
I've started a thread over at tvcatchup.com's forum to gather support for a windows mobile application or at least access to the tv streams that the iphone uses as they have a special portal that doesnt use flash.
Just wondered if it would be possible for you to show your interest in this thread too and bring tvcatchup.com to WM
Thanks

Cant believe there arnt more people out there who want this working on WM!!, maybe its my fault for just making this post in the Leo section of the forum.
I've tried seting my user agent in Firefox to iphone 3.0 UA and managed to get the page to load where for bbc one it has this url
http://84.234.22.109:1935/iphone/iphone_bbcone.sdp/playlist.m3u8?stream=bbcone
which downloads a playlist, if you open the playlist in notpad you get this
#EXTM3U
#EXT-X-STREAM-INFROGRAM-ID=1,BANDWIDTH=100000
http://84.234.22.109:1935/iphone/ip...t.m3u8?wowzasessionid=431120102&stream=bbcone
But after that I have no idea what to do to make it stream on the phone

It's the m3u8 file format that's the problem there. It's not something we can play on WM devices.
I've tried to sign up to the site so I can post words of encouragement and support on the thread, but it just keeps throwing an error, so i can't
Good luck with this - I'd love to see this on WM.
Surely the playlist just directs the iphone to some H.264 stream, Im sure something like coreplayer would be able to play that? but as you say the playlist doesnt open.
I tried renaming the .m3u8 to just .m3u (as that's what coreplayer recognises) but no luck after that,
Can I ask a mod to move this to a more appropriate section to get more exposure.
Thanks
made a post on tvcatchup thread. lets wait and see if they show any interest.
Well it looks like there's been a response from them
Their are 12 versions of Windows Mobile operateing system.
Id hate to guess how many different phones are useing the variaty of Os's.
Their are massive compatibility issues within each and every OS version and Mobile Phone Type.
iPhone was chosen as our first step onto the mobile market as their is ONE operateing system and specifications between each iPhone are the same. Its one of the most sold new phones on the market and its keep selling. It was highly feasible for an iphone application.
Windows Mobile on the other hand would be very complex. It would cost TVCatchup to develop such application, and we have not yet finished the iPhone which is in Beta.
One step at a time im afraid, we can not jump into every handset from day one.
If theirs a skilled windows mobile developer reading this that uses TVCatchup, we do have an API.

Come on XDA Devs... you know you want to get on this!
Cheers mate, I've contacted a certain dev on here with a well know tv app, hopefully they give him the goodies
Anyone know about any progress? Is FryWalker working on it?
He let me know he had been in contact with their lead developer, and that they were very helpful, I belive he's working on it
I thought I'd bump this as Fry seems to be getting the cold shoulder from the tvcatchup guys apparently, I thought anyone interested in the development would like to know and of course let them know that us WM owners still want an app developed!
Surely all that would be needed is a codec for core player to allow it to play the m3u8 playlist??
I have done a bit of sleuthing and there is a program called pocket player that claims to be able to play m3u8 files but I've had no luck with this so far.
I just use Skyfire to watch.. and it works fine. Looks perfect especially in landscape mode.
Yeah Skyfire works but it's frame rate is low

If you check on the TV catchup forums, this is because you downloaded the US version of the software and not the UK version.

Hi - thanks for the tip - I checked around and had to change my DNS settings to a UK server then reinstall Skyfire so it'd pick up a UK farm. Done that and it connects fine !
Only thing (there's always something) is now that the picture is great but there's no audio - any ideas why no sound is coming through and if there's something I need to change ? I checked the IP settings and there's no compression set - not sure what else to check.

I'm thinking about making a Droid Eris video out app...Need Help

Hi all. Bear with me as I'm new to the dev community for the Android OS.
Basically the story so far is I've got a Droid Eris. I saw that there is a cable available called the Act100 Video Cable by HTC. This cable plugs into the mini usb port of the phone and outputs a composite video and left and right audio signal, yellow red white cables. I have a TV in my car that accepts composite input.
Through some research I've found that the Eris does not support this video out function. A supported phone for example is listed as the HTC Touch Pro 2 on sites where you can buy the cable. I've read in forums where people have mailed HTC about eris video out compatibility and HTC said that it isn't in the software by default but to try and search for an app that enables it. Therefore, the hardware supports it but it simply isn't an option in the software. So I want to make an app that simply enables the feature on the Droid Eris.
This is where my questions start. I've had only limited C++ programming experience so I'm prepared for any learning curve. How difficult do you think it would be to make an app like this? I know of some begginer guides but beyond that where should I begin?
How do you find out that the hardware does, in fact, support this? I would think if this were possible it would have been made by now, but I'd love to be wrong.
I'm not 100% sure the hardware supports it. I just made a guess because in the post I read HTC support tells the guy to look for an app that enables it becuase it isn't in the software by default. It sounds like it might just have to be coded in. At leat I'm really hoping it can be.
Sounds fishy to me. Every portable device I've ever used with a TV out function required a hardware decoder specifically for a TV. This can be done in software I'm sure but the other issue I find is pushing it out over the USB jack. Analog video source pushed out through a USB chipset doesn't sound like it can be done. I'm not all that knowledgeable about the Eris' hardware specifics so don't quote me.
As far as a pure software app that will do it, that raises red flags as well. As far as I know apps on a stock ROM run in a Dalvik VM I believe. They're separated from the system itself, and it's the system that controls the hardware. It might be able to be done but I doubt it.
The Touch Pro 2 might have the ability to do it maybe through hardware, but as far as I know the Eris doesn't have any of that.
I'll let somebody with more hardware knowledge come in.
Thanks for the ideas so far. Well since the touch pro 2 can output video over usb it's obviously possible to push the signal over any other USB. It would just be a matter of, as you said, the Eris having the hardware. I guess I was under the impression that the hardwares were very similar. I'm really trying to investigate this as much as possible and no one even answered me on other forums. Please keep this thread alive!
I don't know for sure if this can work, but here are my thoughts. PDANet sends data over the USB port to enable wired tethering, so an app can send data over the USB port.
So since we know we can send/receive data over the USB port, we must address the issue of video output. I don't know if this will be easy because of the way USB->Composite converters probably work (read output of the USB pins into each of the Red, White, Yellow pins). What would potentially make this difficult would be that with Dalvik I don't know if we can control what pins we are outputting our data to.
If someone wants to post more information on how the video cable works it would be easier to determine if it is possible.
Check this out. The Droid Incredible does it over microUSB. I wonder if all we need is the right cable.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJyt463AoOA
I would love to see you make an app for this if its possible. Is there an option on stock incredible for this or is it an app?
Nindoja: Yea I agree pin control is probably going to be important for something like this. I would prefer not to, but would rooting allow us to get around the Dalvik restriction you mentioned if it ends up being a problem?
ihtfp69 and conap: I did see that the incredible does the tv out over usb. I'm not sure wether it is an option or an app though... I also read that the incredible's files were leaked, including one called tvout.apk. I think I read that just trying to install it on the eris doesn't work but I'm really not sure. In the least having that file to work with might be a great start.
I haven't been able to find that file yet unfortunately. How similar are the Incredible and Eris hardware? If they are similar it could be good news for a software solution.
Thanks for the replys so far! Any other thoughts?
Has there been any development on this?
nope, none public at least
Bumpity bump bump. this needs to happen!

Did you read the thread at all? The problem isn't only software.... the apps the incredible (and other phones that have video out) use make extensive use of dedicated hardware to output the video stream.
We don't have that on the eris, so that would be really hard, and very slow, to emulate in software. That's assuming it could even be done over our USB port.
shouldnt be that hard, the same thing has been done for PSP...although its USB video out to PC.
its probably a step in the correct direction.
goto youtube.com and search for 'remotejoylite' one word, should be second video down, shows it in action via usb cable.

Am I missing something, but haven;t at least three comments made before this one confirmed, several phones have video out, via USB. I think the assuming iot is possible part is over. The real question that no one has answered is if the Eris has the hardware to support this option. I don't have an answer, but wanted to point out that the possibility of video over USB has been answered.
If you look on Google you can find the tvout.apk and tvout.odex from the Incredible dump. Might be able to do something with it.

I think with the right cable and the right software we can get this to work.
We might also need system/lib/libTVOUT.so
From what I can tell, on a stock ROM the TV out functionality is provided by system/app/TVOUT.apk and a system/lib/libTVOUT.so

GPSSamsungRestore: Official GPS fix?

Samsung USA has tweeted the Market availability of GPSSamsungRestore, a GPS optimization app. Tweets have indicated that it is for the Vibrant and Captivate:
http://twitter.com/samsungtweets
maybe , some one using AT&T can help and upload the apk maybe ?
Hmmmm... I assume that it is only on the market in the USA because I searched for it under the names GPSSamsungRestore, GPS Samsung Restore, GPS Restore, etc. and I cannot find it on the market here in Canada.
I am assuming that us poor Canadians will not see this app anytime soon but I have posted a question on the Samsung Mobile Canada facebook page and I will see if they answer it. I doubt it though cause they NEVER answer ANYTHING!!!
Sure would be nice if this is the "fix" weve been waiting for...

You can change the .apk to .rar and extract the content.
If you can provide the .apk we could take a look into it
Edit: it was posted here:

How would you modify the contents without the developers key?
I understand you can open the APK, but I thought that was only to remove/replace images
EDIT:
with some digging, i found the settings it replaces

As you see this is for t-mobile,
you may need to replace a couple values to get it working on your carrier
hosnestly no need to install this ;
# Does the application contain new values for GPS?
* No. The application only resets settings to factory defaults and then writes data in setting file.

I'm going to chime in as one of those "my GPS has been working fine". Only been using Froyo for the last week so I don't know if it will get worse. However, so far it's been good.
Does anybody have the apk. for the captivate? Cant download it from the market

Right so I think what this app is for is to reset the gps so it works and then as time passes and it gets bad again you run the app again to start from scratch so it works again... Lather, rinse, repeat...
Im just guessing here and its not the greatest solution but if thats how it works it would be better than nothing...

I think the app is for reset the settings to factory setting after aplying all the "fixes" we can read on the forums and doesn't do anything.
I doubt GPS can be fixed as Samsung is showing every day

Exactly. Samsung have probably been receiving complaints by many people who are gps "experts", so they wanted to provide support with an easy approach for dealing with them.
I wouldn't expect new drivers are anything like that, I'd simply expect it to reset the GPS setting file.

Is Samsung was receiving complaints from GPS "experts" then dont you think that these "experts" would have already stated "definitively" that the GPS cannot be fixed?
And if Samsung had been dealing with GPS "experts" then why would they release a software that would IMMEDIATELY be squashed by these same GPS "experts"?
I would like to think that Samsung may be finally listening to us all complaining and that this could even be just step 1 in the right direction to a useable GPS on this device. Wishful thinking I know but I sure hope so...

I think that "experts" is a sarcastic way of talking about all the thread playing with setting that doesn't nothing but changing configurations at random and only A-GPS settings.
