[Q] Temporary unroot not working on PA 3.96 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've updated to PA 3.96 recently and noticed that SuperSU's temporary unroot is no longer working. I have apps that refuse to run when it detects root but I would like to be able to enable root when I need it. Temporary unroot worked fine up until 3.69 so I'm guessing it's the automatic root in 4.3 ROMS that is causing the problem.
Is there a way to make temporary unroot work on PA 3.96? Or is there an app that somehow prevents an app from detecting root access? It's not running su directly to check as blocking access from SuperSU does not prevent it from detecting root.

[Q] Vanishing Root

I was able to root using kingo....and get SafeStrap Recovery installed along with the SU update zip with no issue on the MJ Firmware...Cool! The problem I am having is that the phone will not maintain the Root access. I don't lose Recovery...just Root.
Any thoughts on what is causing this?

[Q] Lost root access?

I've been rooted and running Sacs ROM for a while now, but somehow I've lost root access. When I try Supersu it tells me "There is not SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it..."
I have been trying different ROMS and restored from a nandroid backup using TWRP. What do I need to do to get back root access?
Can you not just reroot with CF Auto Root?
Yes, I can, but I wasn't sure if that was advisable or not given that I had root access before and somehow lost it. In any event, I re-rooted using CF auto root and all is well. What I don't understand is how I lost root access in the first place.

No telling why you lost it. Did you take an update?
I know I updated to NC6, lost root, but re-rooting was not an issue.

Root works but no root application

Hello,
After upgrade my nexus 7 from 4.4.4 to 5.1.1 with nexus toolkit all application needs root works perfect, but no root app (e.g. SuperSU or Superuser) appears in menu. I installed SuperSu from TWRP recovery but Application list in SuperSu is empty and all apps needs root works without showing message to allow or deny root access.
How can fix it?
After re-flashing system.img an new installation of SuperSU from TWRP, the problem solved!

root broken on CM12.1

Hi,
flashed my nexus 4 to CM12.1 successfully. For some period everything was fine, even root access. Since an unknown point in time root access does no longer work, even though dev settings are activated and enabled and root access is set to "adb and apps". There is no "#" sign any more in the info section and all apps (Titanium Backup, TWRP Manager, ES File Explorer, ...) fail to get root access. What can I do to repair it? Can I do a dirty reflash (without wiping) to keep apps and re-gain root?
It might be possible that I caused that with the deinstall and removal of the supersu app, as I realized to late that this app is not required with CM12.1.
Thx,
Robert
I tried the dirty reflash of the 12.1 zip and it worked. Apps and data still there, root is back working.

Root Permissions Not Working For Most Apps After BOK3 Keeproot Upgrade

I already had root on a much older build. I'm on BOK3 (Verizon). Root Check shows I have root, supersu seems to be working, I can drop into su via a terminal, but most my apps that require root aren't getting it. Cleanmaster, Autostart Manager, AppFreezer, Helium (None can use root). I was able to install BusyBox. Supersu shows that all these apps have root permissions granted after I was prompted. I tried setting Supersu to always allow root without prompting but it didn't work. Supersu always says that it has granted access for an interactive shell. I have no idea what to do. My phone sucks without root
Here is what I did to upgrade and keep root. I followed the instructions perfectly and everything seemed to work (But obviously not so well): http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-update-to-g900voe1-5-0-keeproot-t3149784
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
