sim unlock code not working - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

so i was trying to unlock my phone through the free unlock method but to no avail, i bought an unlock code . I have a sgh 1337m locked to telus and when put in the code it is not unlocking . I have tried to unlock 3 times already. note,i used used the method on galaxys4root.com to open up the phone for ADW so i can use my phone for wind. the screens on the bottom are the ones i get when i type *#9090# or *#0011* may have tweaked with the.Diag config but not sure ..can someone please help

Most people who tried the "free" method unsuccessfully and then went to purchase just a code and it doesn't work, would end up paying the $14.99 on FastGSM.com for the USB method to successfully unlock their device.

This will help.

Why didn't you read about what you were doing before doing it? If you would have, you would have learned about the possible complications and how to possibly fix them. The issue you are having and possible solutions have been reported and posted dozens of times already.
And, for future reference, I wouldn't do anything to your phone that doesn't come directly from XDA and then only after thoroughly reading and learning about it. Good luck.

thanks alot i really appreciate it. this solved my problem, i have been searching xda forums for awhile for the solution. My thread was the last resort, i didnt know the problem was so prevalent, thanks again. one last note for those that are using the phone to open AWS you will have to do the process again.

Problem unlocking vibrant

Hey I recently got a vibrant and have been trying tonged it unlocked. I sent the phone into samsung for a factory restore. When I got the phone back and tried to use the galaxy s unluckier and it would not give me a code. The application would return with "are you sure this is a galaxy s phone?". I rooted the phone and tried again with same result. I went on ebay and paid for an unlock code and it didn't work. I had the guy recheck the code and when he tried again the same code came back so it must be the correct code for my phone. I tried doing the i9000 hack that requires changing the data inside nv_data.bin to make the unlock code all0's. That didn't work either. Is there any reason the paid unlock code would not work if it was the correct code for my iemi? Is there anything I can do?

No I have not updated to froyo.

Omg, dude you have me freaking out over here. My Vibrant comes back from Samsung (where they restored it) on Monday! I don't even live in the US so I don't have many options. Please let me know if you get it figured out.
Edit: Wait a second, I think of heard about this problem before. If memory serves me, you have to flash it to another firmware (downgrade) for you to be able to unlock it. Can't recall which one though... run a search on here.
Here it is, try this post 107: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771158&page=11
I'm having errors also like yours, but you have already tried a code but i haven't cause i can't obtain my code. i'll just tell t mobile to give me the code.

Sorry to worry you. I dont know what they did, but the codes are no longer stored in the nv_data.bin file and where the unlock code should be its all F's. From what I read that happens when you update to froyo, but I never did and I verified the phone was not on froyo. So I went ahead and paid for the unlock code and when I got it and tried it, it sadly did not work. I thought it was maybe the incorrect code so I had the guy check it again and he got the same code back. He is going to credit me back what I paid, but I am affraid to try from someone else and get the same code. I am hoping someone can shed some light on a possible fix, I have tried flashing to various 2.1 releases and trying the code but it didnt work.

Yes I tried that method already. In fact I spent an entire day trying to get it to work. Every time it says network lock unsuccessful and doesnt unlock my phone.
Is that method suppose to work because I could never get it to. I followed the directions perfectly with no errors so i dont know. maybe I am using the wrong firmware, but since its posted in the i9000 forum I am guessing most of them use firmware for that phone. I have tried the original firmware, the one that came after that, and the very newest one. I think there were a couple in between.
Could anyone send me a good nv_data.bin, maybe I can inject my code into it and get it to work.

Did you manage to get it working? I would have sent you the nv_data.bin but I haven't received my phone as yet.
Just so I understand, did you ever have this phone unlocked? I mean before you sent it to Samsung, was it unlocked?
No I didn't get it working and it has never been unlocked

same thing for me except I never sent mine into Samsung, still on JI6 firmware and never flashed it with another rom...but the application says, no codes found
I recovered and there's a nv file there but after using 0xHex, I get FFFFFFFF and a bunch of numbers

i am having the same exact problems as u with my vibrant...i`ve tried everything the last 3 days and nothing...my nv_data.bin shows 0kb so if anyone could send me a good nv_data.bin also i would appreciate that....if it still doesnt work i will have to sell my phone because i have att thats why i am needing to unlock it
If you guys don't get anyone to send it, just send me a PM on Monday and i'll be glad to help.
I don't think I'm gonna have any problems as my phone was unlocked before. And I have the unlock code for it. In my haste, I misread and thought Laaf's phone was unlocked then came back from Samsung locked. Then he couldn't re-unlock it. My bad...
I had the same problem with my phone. I used this method:
Step 1
Punch this code into the dialer
*7465625*638*#
Step 2
Lock it to the MCC of the carrier you want to use.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code
Here's a list
I think you need to flash to stock use to use this dialer code, I'm on Froyo and I can't use that code.
Good Luck. PM me if you need more help.
I don't think a nv_data.bin from someone else will do you any good, I am sure it would be their code , but I may be wrong ...
The problem is, way back , before you ever flashed any new rom or update, many threads stated, make a backup copy of your nv_data.bin, and you can restore it whenever you need it ...
I have flashed many many many custom roms and always restoring my phones original nv_data.bin allowed me to generate codes(I have unlocked it but did it just for testing purposes), and no matter what rom I flashed after restoring it always generates my same code.
soooo that being said, if you do not have your nv_data.bin, there are some hex edits you can do to the one with the F's in it, or you call tmo for the unlock code.
There are many threads on the subject.

Is a non-TMO sim card required for the unlock?
I got it unlocked but now the imei is wrong. Gotta figure out how to fix it. No backup of nv_data.bin so may be out of luck.

Unlocking Tmo Vibrant

June 2011 RE-EDIT... Use the instructions here or here to unlock.
EDIT: SIM-Lock on JI6 has been solved for me with helroz's repair_nv_data.zip, read further along...
Page 11, Post 103 has a good copy of the instructions (but read the whole thread)
Also, heres a link to the corresponding thread in the Captivate forums
Can someone who has had Tmobile US for at least 40 days put a request in for an unlock code for my Vibrant? I only have ATT and no friends with Tmo. The Tmobile unlock team already refused my request. You would just need to call Customer Service, ask for the unlock team. I tried all the solutions in the forums - I have a messed up nv_data (bought it on craigslist). Shoot me a PM if your willing to help. Thanks in advance.
how many days since you have your vibrant?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I bought it 2 days ago from a guy on craigslist
There is an apk you can get called sgs unlock and it will give you the unlock code
the sgs unlocker doesn't work if the vibrant's had the JI6 update flashed or any other custom ROMs in it.
I'm also trying to unlock my JI6 updated vibrant. I was a dumbass and didn't unlock it when it was on JFD.
I paid cellunlocker.net for a code, but apparently it takes up to 3 days to get the code.
Yup,it had ji6 when I got it, and tmo won't give me the code cause I'm not their customer
And abaybas, please let me know if the code you get works
In this case, would you be able to unlock it if you flash your phone with JFD stock ROM then flash it back to JI6?
Nope. I odin'd back to stock. Ive tried the fixes. I just need someone to contact tmo for me
Ill do it. Whats the imei on the phone? it can take up to 72hrs but most times when I call its less.
No need! Just got it unlocked with a file that helroz sent me
Repeat: You can unlock a JI6 flashed phone using a file that changes the SIM unlock code (I was running bionix fusion when i did it)
Someone please work with him to turn it into an app if thats possible... its just a couple bat files and a jar that edit the files i believe
Thanks so much french dude (helroz)
wow can't believe you can do that in JI6 update, cuz i know about one unlock method that erases your phone's IMEI number and unlocks it permanently but thats questionable to be.
he sent me a repair_nv_data.zip and it fixed my nv_data and maintained the imei thats listed under my battery

I am actually in the same situation. I cant get mine unlocked using the app because it doesnt give me an unlock code and just says 'are you sure this is a galaxy s phone?'. I also tried paying for a code and the code did not work, the guy who did it also retried a second time and the code was the same, so I dont know whats up with that. My IMEI is the same as whats on my original box. I tried hacking the nv_data.bin myself using the guide posted somewhere in the i9000 thread. If someone could send me that fix I would be very grateful.

First, if you already had an unlocked phone, why would you do this?
Second, there are several warnings about this not working and possibly even screwing up phones. If you would have read, you would have seen them. Trying anything without first reading is your own fault. The OPs of these "unlock for free" threads should be shot for not putting HUGE disclaimers up about the possibility this could screw your phone up but it is still your responsibility.
And third, you are probably screwed. The people that I have seen this happen to have not been able to unlock their phone with any method or code. Though, you could always try.
Unlocked already, and you tried to see if something else would unlock..hmmm WHY?
Are you just doing things to just do them? I am confused.

unable to unlock galaxy s4 i337

I searched and see some people are having the same problem as I do.
My problem, I can not get my ATT galaxy S4 SGH-I337 to unlock. I tried the free method. I bought code, two places, got the same code. But no luck on unlocking this bad boy. Anyone figured out how to unlock it yet? What can I do?
you mean SIM unlock, yes? cell un locker.net worked for me, as did free method. i was going overseas, tried free method which worked with t-mob in USA, but wanted the code just to be safe.
You could use the search function and read the threads that are just like yours: "how do I unlock when free version fails" type thing.
Yes it takes a few minutes to review the first few pages of the general and QA forums, or to use the search function, but I promise you that others have already posted solutions that worked for them.

Still kind of stuck, Maybe is it is the F3 modem or something else, really just do not know or understand why I'm encountering issues since other than this thread everyone seems to be having no issues.

Need held unlocking sgh-i337m Telus version
I am new at this. First post ever.
Followed the instructions here to free unlock my phone
Went through the steps twice and did not unlock my device.
So I thought I did something wrong so I went to try one last time. However this time the phone won't allow me past the 1st step.
I enter: *#0011#
Then menu back
Then menu input 1
And at this point the phones restarts. It won't allow me to the full service menu.
Can someone help me please.
The phone is brand new and at one point the was a Samsung update the was downloaded and installed. Don't know if this download changed the system and access to service menu
For some people it fails doing the free method even though they followed it correctly and jt messes up something internally that prevents even the official code from working. The only work around to unlocking it at this stage is via a service called FastGSM from what I've read.

fastgsm cable does not work if your baseband version ends in anything later than ME1. Mine is MF3 and I did not understand this until after I bought the software for USB cable unlock from fastgsm. I have not found any method that will work for me so far.
This is old, but I just want to say that usb cable unlocking worked for me where others failed
Not this one
I spent hours searching forms, for me too non of the free methods worked, until I combined some of them and made a thred, this will work, I just did it myself

I too experienced problems unlocking my I337M device (not AT&T, it's the Canadian version, hence the "M" in device model). After trying the keypad menu method and failing, I tried sending my IMEI number into a website to generate a key, but apparently the Samsung servers were experiencing a global delay and they refunded me after two days. (This delay was confirmed from multiple sources.) I then tried a tethered method using an application offered by an unlocking website. It cost $15 (compare at $35 for the IMEI method) and it worked instantly! This was after two days' worth of trying other methods. I won't give you the exact link, but if you google "fastgsm", it should come up. Make sure it's the tethered method. Good luck.
thanx!

The FASTGSM website says:- Warning
Check your phone’s software version by going to Settings > About device. If Baseband version ends with MI1 or later (e.g. MJ1), your phone is not supported for USB unlocking. Use a different unlock method or downgrade your phone’s firmware.
And iam on mf3. So i think it should work!( f comes before i)
I used the FastGSM tethered method, and it worked on my MF3 stock rooted rom. Granted, I do not have MF3 bootloaders, but it otherwise seemed to work. The instructions included inside the program have you dial *#0808#, but other instructions (like the ones on their website) have to go and install a bunch of crap to your phone and dial some other number, but I found the *#0808# will get you straight to the options you need to switch your phone over to DM mode. Also don't forget to switch it back to MTP + ADB (or MTP-only if you don't want ADB debugging on).
EDIT: also make sure you have a completely unfiltered network connection. I tried it on my work's "guest" wireless that has far fewer restrictions, but it blocks something within FastGSM's app that reaches out to their servers right before performing the unlock. It's a safety to avoid them handing out a bunch of free unlocks.
Also! I forgot that I didn't have a 100% success. It didn't unlock the phone by itself, but it did at least provide me the network unlock code. I manually entered this on my phone and it worked the first time. Don't try entering the code multiple times if it doesn't work the first time! Save a copy of the log it makes, but don't post it here (includes IMEI).

I have tried using their usb method and it didnt work and they give me full refund.
I tried free method many many many times with original firmware and the lastest and it failed everytime. I even got the unlock code from att and it also didnt work. I was able to get my phone replaced because of the unlock code didnt unlock the phone. They gave me hard time but i was able to get replacement.
The replacement had the latest firmware, so i didnt try the free method or usb unlock, i just got the code from att and it worked. The free unlock method def. does something that prevents the phone from being unlocked.

From what I've seen on xda it appears that if you have mf3 firmware the sim unlock does not work. It's just an observation and I may be wrong.

I tried it 15 minutes ago, it doesn't work. Failed while attempting to connect. Some security is blocking everything, no downgrade, no unlock. Idk what to do
I just did the chat with international care and they gave me the code. The code worked when I inserted the T-Mobile sim card

I am on MF3 and they did not charge me anything
This is exactly how I have unlocked all of my devices on AT&T. I just chat with international support, tell them I am going out of country and would like to use my phone there. They ask for the IMEI and within a minute give me an unlock code. Never had anyone say no, and never had issues. Unlocked S2, S3, S4, Atrix. All phones except S3 purchased on contract and still no problems.
Idk why anyone would pay $35 for something that is so easy and free and the unlock code is guaranteed to work.
