Thanks - this helped me out of my bootloop.

Is it DE only or european one?
I mean, if this is the wifi only version shouldn't be the european multilanguage one?
Or sony makes IT, DE, UK and so?
Thank you for your help.

Well... I don't really know... Sorry .

Each country has an individual firmware. Most noticeable change is on setup the language is default to that country.
There may also be some variations within the remote control app.

Actually since I can choose my language "Italian" from the rom it works out of the box, I can easily root it, but I can't update then to 370, it downloads the update, start to apply then after a few seconds reboot and gave errore message (generico:impossible to update).
If I'll do that with kyes I'm pretty sure it will destory the root.
I'm not a "root maniac", but I would like to restore apps+apps data from my S4 to Xperia Tablet Z as done with the new nexus, and I need root for that.
AdAway would be nice to use too...
Well, I'll try to find if it's a root problem or DE rom on IT tablet problem, but I'm pretty sure that the tablet is downloading the right update, so maybe it's the root stuff that cause troubles

[Q] Xperia arc s - android updates question

Hi, i just ordered an xperia arc s,bafter telling myself ill never buy a non google experience phone due to update issues with non google phones, cos the arc s just looks so nice and distinguished. So now i have a question about how updates work.
As far as i know from experience, updates are carrier based. For example i had a lg optimus before this, and its european version was slightly lagging behind with bug fix updates than my us carrier version, and short of custom rom, there was no way to oficially update the software to eu version.
With the arc s, my phone is unlocked, internstional version, bought off amazon. As far as i can tell its similar to the ones SE sells on its website which arent locked to any specific carrier. How do the updates on these official carrier free sim unlocked phones work? Are they quicker since they are not carrier dependent? Or are they on European schedule since this is an european phone? Im looking forward to ics and hope i get it soon, bso if someone could educate me id appreciate it..
Non carrier phones get it faster than branded ones.
ICS will come in April to Arc (S)

Flash whatever firmware you wish mate.
First thing I did was erase the branded fw and flash a generic fw.

Ive read guide upon guide of flashing different firmware, but for the life of me just can never figure it out. So for now im staying away fromm it. I actually think sonys android skin is pretty nice. Once sony leaves behind the device from updates then sure ill flash a different firmware, for now though the convenience of ota uodates, which are available for official firmwares but not for hacked ones, is too much to give up.
There's nothing wrong with the se skin, I prefer modded stock roms to miui/cm7. The branding is from the carrier, but if yours is a generic rom then there shouldn't be much to remove. Mines was sim-free but there are still delays to updates region-wise, which is why I unlocked my bootloader. Flashing roms is pretty straightforward once you have flashtool/fastboot/cwm.

Use flashtool, it is really simple. Just go slow the first time so you don't make any errors.

So i just received my phone in canada (Lt18i), the international version, since im not using it in canada, its a gift for someone in europe. The box was sealed when i got it, and it said for sale in france, and it has a bunch of crap installed apps like canal+, warnervod, etc. does this mean this is specific to some carrier and thu would have carrier dependent updates? I was really hoping since it unlocked i wouldnt have all this junk on it. Itmdoesnt have any references though to any carrier in the documentation, neither does it have any carrier specific apps i can see. The version on it is 0.42 and it says no updates available. I did read about some 0.62 version out there.
So i have a few questions off topic:
- can i remove the crapware without rooting my phone? I tried es explorer but it tells me uninstll not successful for those apps.
- i did a factory reset the first time, and now the default pictures thwt came with it to show off the beautiful screen are also gone. I found the default ringtones and notificwtion by searching but have not found the default pics. Anybody got a source as to where to find these?
- if i want to stick with the sony software and sony updates, what is the downside of rooting my phone just to delete those bad apps? I read somewhere i lose ota update absility? True? Also can i root, delete the apps, and then unroot?
- what is the difference between simply rooting the device, and unlocking the bootloader, i thought they were both the same
Thanks

If someone doesn't have them zipped already, I can probably find them on my phone and upload them.

You do NOT lose OTA update abilities as long as you don't modify any system apps/files. e.g. notifications bar, battery indicator, etc.
Updates are based on whatever firmware you have on the phone.
e.g. I flashed my Rogers arc to a generic USA firmware. It typically gets updated 2-3 weeks before Rogers since they have to do their customization to it. Similarly, users will flash an international firmware or another region's if that region has released an update.
You can flash ANY firmware onto ANY arc and still get 3G in its coverage zone. (All firmwares contain BOTH software radios: i, a. However, HARDWARE is fixed: "a" radio, "i" radio and will ONLY get 3G in their respective coverage zones.)
That is, you can flash an "i" firmware onto an "a" phone and still get 3G in an "a" zone.
However, this does NOT work in reverse. You CANNOT flash an "i" firmware to get "i" 3G in an "i" zone on an "a" phone.

Rooting = deeper access to the software on the phone. Does NOT allow you to load recoveries like ClockWorkMod or load non-Sony firmwares.
Bootloader unlocking (either paid or free) allows custom firmwares, overclocking, etc.
Flashing a (generic) firmware is quick and painless:

You have no idea how helpful your info and those videos have been!! I think im actually going to attempt the generic rom thing especially because it says i dont even need to be rooted. And the vidos make it ridiculously easy to do it. After half a dozen guides this demystifies the whole process.
So just to confirm, if i update to a generic other rom, ill still be able to get ota updates based on that region? In your opinion which rom is the best for an lt18i? And by best i mean the one i can expect quickest updates on and with least amount of bloatware, cos i doubt there are or differences in them.European, north american. Or global generic?
Btw im on firmware 0.62 anything special i need to consider before attempting this?
This page has links to firmware for lt18i but no global. And the uk version is older. Should i just flash The uk version even though its older and then ota update?
Regarding the stock photos, would be awesome if you could zip and upload to your mediafire page, maybe other people can find them useful too.

Typically, Nordic gets updates first because Ericsson is Swedish. (From past observations, it typically goes Nordic, German, Hong Kong, UK, Asia, North America.)

Nope. There isn't anything you need to "do". If you're concerned about data, use a backup program such as Sony's original Backup & Restore that came with the X10 (still works). (http://jp1.ca/androidstuff)

The link you sent me only has a generic world for lt18i. This other thread i read though said that there is no such thing as generic world, and its just called that but its always for some region of the other. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210776&page=3)
Not sure how accurate that is but i dont see the nordic one on the link you sent me anyway
Also another thread said that there will always be 8-9 bloatware apps on any firmware such as canal+, warner vod, etc. is this true or false?
Lastly, say i find an older version of the nordic flash file, can i just flash that instead of the 0.62 and then just get an ota update? I didnt see france on your list of status of updates, any idea where that is?
As for pictures, not sure what folder but i believe there were some stock pics that came with the phone to show off the home screen photo widget. If you dont know what im talking about dont worry about it.

Hi! I was on the same situation as you when I got my device as this was my 1st ever android device and I was also curious about firmware regions. So I tested each and every firmware region I could get on .42 and all I can say is there's not much difference on all of them.
1. is of all the regions there each firmware differs only by so called bloatwares.
2. there are only 2 major differences of all the regions. Asia region contains Chinese keyboard, Japanese Keyboard & international keyboard but no arabic support. While non-Asia regions only has International Keyboard included + arabic support.
That's pretty much about it. All others softwares are similar like baseband version, branding, kernel version, applications, themes, etc.

Firmware 17.1.2.A.0.314 Generic Europe for XPERIA Z2 Tablet SGP512

I created an FTF file with firmware 17.1.2.A.0.314 Generic Europe for XPERIA Z2 Tablet SGP512 if someone needs it.
It's uploaded on Dev-Host in a three-part RR file here:
SGP512_17.1.2.A.0.314_Generic Nordic.part1.rar - 500.00 MB
SGP512_17.1.2.A.0.314_Generic Nordic.part2.rar - 500.00 MB
SGP512_17.1.2.A.0.314_Generic Nordic.part3.rar - 64.88 MB
Device: Xperia Z2 Tablet 32Gb (SGP512)
Build number: 17.1.2.0.A.314
Android version: 4.4.2
Customization version: 1281-9080
Region: IT/ES/PT/DK/FI/NO/SE/GR
Branding: Unbranded (I think...)
Not much bloatware as far as I could tell
Oh, and it is my first FTF file ever, so I hope I got it all right...
I did name it Generic Nordic, but I think it should really be Generic Europe so that what I set the thread title to.
Sorry for the confusion.
Anybody tried this yet?
Works very well for me! Very big thanks for your upload! I've searched a long time for an SGP512 tft File!

I used this FTF to flash downgrade SGP512 Tablet Z2 (UK Model) to 4.4.2, then rooted, then updated to 4.4.4 (Build Number is 23.0.1.A.0.167), and I still have root access.
However when I first got my tablet, I accidentally updated to 4.4.4 (before root), and I'm sure the build number was 23.0.1.A.4.30
And also AdAway won't install the host files, and enable itself. PS4 remote play wont start, just get error message
So, why is it different, and is it a problem?
From my understanding the root did not work correctly even though Super SU works and root checker verifies
for those who rooted this version can u give me what kernel u use for it, need root kernet twrp please thax for all for help

Bear with me if this is a stupid question, but this is my first Sony phone. I have a UK unlocked S5503 running 14.4.A.0.108 which I bought second hand. It appears to have originally been sold by Virgin Mobile and some carrier-specific apps are in present in the ROM. For some reason also I'm not getting any LTE - the options under mobile networks/network mode are only 3G or GSM.
What I want to do is flash my phone to a stock unlocked UK firmware such as this one, when it finally comes out - which hopefully should get rid of the carrier apps and give me LTE.
What sort of update file should I be looking for? how are roms normally packaged, as full updates to flash from the PC or as updates you can flash from the phone itself? how can I tell which is which?

Depending on where you live LTE bands can be different, in that case you have to flash the RADIO from the original Chinese firmware. GSM bands should not be affected as far as I know. There are several people who have replaced the radio in the firmware here on the forum so a quick search should let you know how to do that. All the languages are available in the RU version.
The only thing different in the video is that they download the firmware first and then extract it and put it in the right folder. YotaFlasher can also do that for you but the method in the video also works. Hope this helps.

The RADIO is ondeed responsible for supporting the LTE bands, they have to match the phones hardware.
I use my YotaPhone as my seconds phone and only use the second screen for message checking and stuff like that. I rarely use the main screen. With that kind of use I can get between 3 and 5 days of battery use. But I don't know what the battery use is of used as your primary phone.

Stock ROM for Xperia X Compact?

Hi, I assume someone much smarter than me will be able to point me to a Sony Xperia standard/stock ROM which I can flash with TWRP.
I had loaded TWRP and manages to accidentally wipe out the system with no backup (it's a new phone anyway). I found some ROMS from European telcos, etc. but would like to install the "standard" Sony Xperia ROM for XC.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
PS. I think it would be easiest for me to able to install it through TWRP.... but obviously, anyway to recover my phone would be great.
PPS. Still can access device with adb and Flashtool, but not from Fastboot or Sony PC Companion.
PPS. I have installed OmniROM in the meantime... but don't want to spend too much time on it if I am going to wipe it out anyway.
PPS. I am in the US.
Update:
I found XperiaFirmware. It's downloading F5321_34.1.A.3.49_CE.ftf. Per the download website, will take about 18 hours on average, but it is progressing better than that.
I also found XperiFirm tool which downloads much faster, but I don't know which version. My understanding is that US customized is for CDA version of the phone. I also ran across the post about enabling the fingerprint reader by downloading the UK customized version... But based on latest attempts to do this, since UK version has been upgraded to Nougat, this approach is not working anymore...? But anyway, I could give it a shot to try a European version which is still on MM,
Update: *Whew*
I used XperiFirm to select a ROM. I didn't know which ROM, but I was intrigued to enable the fingerprint scanner. Due to some recent posts that the original method of using the Customized UK (or as they would say "Customised UK") version no longer works as the posted firmware was for Nougat. As a workaround, some people downloaded CE version, but CE version has also been recently updated to Nougat. I noticed a CE5 version which still seemed to be the MM version.
However, I also wasn't sure what differences I may see in the European version as some posters were complaining about some cosmetic differences, so I downloaded Customized US even though I thought I read somewhere it was for CDMA network. I also decided to download one called "Commercial and Journalists" which was the same MM version.
I decided to install it first as I was anxious about trying to get my phone back. I was able to load OmniROM but since there were some known issues, my preference was to use authentic Sony firmware. In addition, I took some low light pictures with the OmniROM version, and they turned out really bad. Not sure if it was the ROM or what, but it was very disappointing. Also, I couldn't get root access to it. Also, even though OmniROM seemed to support the fingerprint scanner, I couldn't get it to register my fingerprint well.
I downloaded the Commercial and Journalists version from XperiFirm, let it unpack it, and then used FlashTool to create the bundle, not including fwinfo.xml or the .ta files.
It started up Android ok, but I noticed I seemed to have lost my TWRP. Anyway, while starting up Android, guess what? The fingerprint enabled software was there... and it works like a champ!
Since I seemed to have lost TWRP, I started from instructions again from http://www.stupdroid.com/2016/10/root-sony-xperia-x-compact.html and was able to get it back.
Then, I tried to get root, but following the instructions, I got the error ""There is no su binary installed" when opening SuperSU.
I then flashed UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip from https://download.chainfire.eu/696/supersu/
And now I have root access!
Whew! I don't know what damage I've done overall... and since I don't have a nano SIM card yet, the worst case scenario is that what I have now doesn't work as a phone (but I doubt it). After what I went through (accidentally deleting the system from my Android phone), I now have a rooted Xperia X Compact with the fingerprint sensor enabled. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good?
And, when I took some low light pics, they turned out better!
