Anyone else had issues with Asus RMA?? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

it has been 3 1/2 weeks since I sent asus my nexus 7, it had issues with the speaker and then would not turn on, all I have done is take the back cover off to look at the speaker and put it right back on. I sent it in, asus got the tablet on 7/25 and have yet to email me as to weather they have fixed it or not. I have called 5 times and after each call they say I'll get an email within a day or two. Never get the email. I checked the RMA online and it says Awaiting Customer Conformation CID/OOW (which is customer damage or out of warranty) I at least would like them yo send me my tablet back at the least, anyone had this issue with Asus before?

Maybe the mailman stole your Nexus.

You probably voided any chance of a free warranty repair. That's what happens when you open things up.

If the unit had been open then it would definitely be out of warranty. I believe they should be returning the unit back to you shortly. You can always call the center and let them know that you would not like to repair it out of warranty and would like the unit return as soon as possible.

[Q] Ordered16gb device but received 8gb.. anyone?

Someone had mentioned in another thread that they heard there were multiple people on this forum with the same issue as me. I tried the search function but wasn't able to figure out who else had this happen =/. I've seen the same thing happen during the Nexus 7 launch.
Basically I ordered two 16gb devices during the second order date, but when I received it I noticed they were both only 8gb . The IMEI # on my receipt (indicating 16gb) matches that on the box (indicating 8gb). I powered on one of them and I confirmed it was indeed it was 8gb. I contacted google, who basically said I will need to wait 6 weeks if I want the 16gb...
If this happened to you, how was it resolved? What else can I do in my situation?
But what did google say to the issue of ordering the 16 and getting an 8 instead? Telling you that if you want a 16 you'll have to wait 6 weeks does not address your issue. Did they refund you and or charge you for an 8 instead? Did they say they would send you an 8 instead of what you ordered?
If not, I would demand they send you what you ordered. Especially if they pulled a switch onu with authorization.
I don't see why u have to wait 6 weeks for their f.... Up mistake. They have tons stock for defect replacement call them and demand it

Well of course they apologized for the error, which doesn't exactly solve anything -__-. At first I was told I would need to ship both phones back and they will process the refunds and then I can go through the reorder process again. I claimed that it was unreasonable I have to go to the end of the line and wouldn't have a phone to use. So they said I can keep using it for now.
I was sent a shipping label and told, "I was told that the estimated return time is up to 6 weeks. Please let me know if you would like to keep the device--return the device for the correct device----or--get a refund." What's the best option for me? I wonder if they will send me the devices first, because I'm afraid if I ship it back they might end up issuing me a refund and no device... or make me wait 6 weeks!

ask them if you can keep devices until they send the 16gb ones.
This is the second thread I've seen where this happened, as usual google customer service is useless.
First, make sure the serial numbers on the receipt match the devices. If they do, call up, say you have rattling and speaker buzz in both units (and you probably do!!).
Request an RMA for both devices. They have stock set aside just for defects/RMAs.
Once you receive the replacements, make sure both are 16GBs then ship then back.
Google shouldn't make you wait 6+ weeks for their fvck up when they have replacement stock sitting right there!

I just called Google and requested an RMA because of a faulty mic. If you are with in your 15 day return period, you can do this.
They said I would get my replacement with in 3-5 days, and they emailed me a return label before I hung up. Told me to send back my phone once I get the replacement. Once I get the replacement, I have 21 days to send them back the bad one.

Dark vertical line down left side of screen (pic attached)... RMA?

Hey guys,
I previously had a black 16GB Nexus 4 that was perfect in terms of build quality. I switched to the white 16GB version when that came out, and am having some problems with my device. The biggest issue is that there's a dark vertical line running down the left hand side of the screen (attached picture). The phone is also creaky on all four corners of the device when I press down on it. Also, on the left side of the phone, one of the clips isn't properly seated and you can see a bit of a gap. Is this something that Google will replace my device for? The screen defect is pretty annoying. Anyone have experience with Google's RMA process? I can't be without a phone... How much money do they put a hold on your credit card for if you do an advance RMA (cross ship)? Thanks for your help.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I would RMA it. They cover it.
Full price is held on card.
Thanks for reply. I think I'll definitely be RMAing it. I just hope they kept some extra white models for RMA purposes, because I believe the white has been sold out on the Google Play store
Sent from my Nexus 4
Just ask them when you call in for the RMA. If they don't , get a refund.
Just so u guys know the process. I called in and explained issue. He walked me thru some basic troubleshooting. Last thing he wanted me to do was a factory reset. So he emailed me instructions how to do it and told me to call/email back if the factory reset fixed it. If it didn't fix it, he would have the device replaced. So I emailed him back after I did the factory reset (even tho I knew it wouldnt fix anything) telling him it didn't fix the issue. He then emailed back saying he was forwarding my case to a specialist who would help get me a replacement device. Waiting to hear from the specialist now. Should hear something by tomorrow. If they're out of the white model nexus 4's, I wonder if I can get them to upgrade me to the HTC One or Galaxy S 4 Google Play Editions (since their both white)... Hey, a man came dream right? I'll be documenting the RMA process in the thread for the benefit of others in the future.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
You can never know, maybe they will upgrade it for free. good luck, and thanks for sharing the procedure with us.
My screen died, first it wouldn't respond to touch and before I could factory reset the whole phone died, can't get to fastboot and it isn't recognized in adb. My new phone will be here Monday and I don't know if they will go good on the warranty as the defective one has an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery on it. Only time will tell! I'll let you guys know when the dust settles. As for the dark line on your screen, I bought a TV that had the same thing and they had to replace it..I think they said it was the display monitor that had went.

Received my prepaid shipping label to ship my phone back to Google. Strangely, I didn't request an advance RMA, but they put in for an advance RMA anyway, so I had to give my credit card which they put an authorization for the full amount of the phone. What if I didn't have the money? Whatever happened to doing a *normal* RMA? Where they wait to receive the defective item, inspect it, and then send the replacement device, no credit cards needed. So I don't like that they give no option except advance RMA. Not everyone has an extra $350 laying around.
Another point of concern. It said in the RMA instructions to keep the charger that came with the phone because the replacement phone doesn't come with a charger. I emailed them back about this and asked why the new phone doesn't come with a charger, because NEW phones come with chargers. I asked so I could make sure that I'd be receiving a new phone. That would be a bunch of crap if they hold your credit card for $350+ and send you a refurb phone.
Looks like they still have white Nexus 4's in stock for RMA purposes. It stated on the RMA page "16GB white nexus 4 with bumper". So much for lucking out and having them upgrade me hehe.
I'll keep updating as more information becomes available.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Very strange..I specifically asked about refurbished devices in our emails back and forth and they assured me that they only send out new devices. I also emailed them about the charger and was told to return my old one as I would be getting a new one as well? I hope for our sake that what they told me was true..mine will be here tomorrow 07/29/13. I'll report back when I receive it.
sent from my N7 :smokin:
I have yet to receive a reply to my email asking why I shouldn't return my charger, since new devices come with them. Good to hear that you got a reply saying to return the charger because you'd be getting a new one. I think what might be going on is that what they send is simply a boilerplate copy/paste email. All signs *seem* to point to us getting new devices. I wonder if we'll be getting new bumper cases as well? Did you return the bumper with your phone?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
No, I kept my bumper as I'm sure they won't replace it..lucky I ordered two sets of best skins screen protectors as well because I doubt they would reimburse you for that either

Got my delivery everything looks new to me including the charger. I don't think it's the latest version, my old one was a 301k and my new one is a 303k but as long as it works I'll be happy. Good luck with yours. Chive on!
sent from my N7 :smokin:
Got my replacement. It's a new device and thankfully it has no screen flaws or creaking. It's a white Nexus 4, so it's a 305K just like my last one. Cheers guys!

Also want to add they sent me a new bumper as well.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Guess what... Replacement device has developed the same grey vertical line (left hand side) issue. After further research, seems many others are experiencing this issue. I doubt another RMA will fix it, as I'm starting to believe it's a characteristic/defect of the phone/display's design.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
hey, i finally found someone able to post a picture of this. i had the same issue with my n4 bought in december, i noticed, called google, got a new replacement device for free and guess what? that bloody line was still there! now i'm just keeping this replacement device with (once again) the line and..i guess i'll just live with it!
Doesn't that make you mad? I really like the phone, I just am really sensitive to screen flaws. I emailed Google to see if I can pay the difference for a GS4 Google Play Edition.

Asus customer service

I sadly broke my Nexus 7's(2013) screen and digitizer in less then 5 days. Shameful I know, but anyways I contacted Asus since there wasn't anything else I could do. Their customer service set me up with a representative within 5 minutes. I explained my problem and he told me that they can fix it but it may cost me. There wasn't another option so I said okay. So they sent me an email with a form and told me to ship my Nexus to a Asus repair facility. I did and within in a week they sent me it back and fixed the screen and digitizer for FREE! Yes free well unless you count the shipping which was a small price to pay for fixing the device that wasn't their fault in the first place. Anyways if any of you have problems contact Asus I'm pretty sure they can help you. I'm so happy thought I lost my Nexus.

That great to hear ASUS did that... +1 for Asus
Walmart sold me a 2 year accidental glass break/water damage warranty coverage for $28 it was a heck of a lot cheaper than Best Buys 2 year warranty at $70 so I got it. Hopefully if anything happens to the device its easily covered and ill get a new one instead of something fixed.
Off Topic - Does anyone have any experience with Walmart warranties they can share?
Asus was nice and pleasant to deal with.
I had to RMA one of my TF101s three times. It was the contracted repair shop (in Texas) who didn't fix the issue the 1st/2nd time.
They just re-flashed the stock image and sent back to me saying no-problem-found (I carefully documented the issue and suggested
they replace the mainboard due to faulty flash-storage). The 3rd time, I talked to Asus/San Jose directly and they asked the shop to
replace the board. It works beautifully since.
On the 1st RMA, somehow I unexpectedly got a new charger in the mail, from Asus (the issue was the unit didnot power on
even when plugged in). The 1st time I sent it out, it had a customROM onboard .. haha.
I've also only had good experiences with asus technical service. When my pc motherboard failed after a year, new one free!
Good to hear you had such a good experience with Asus.

Asus Nexus 7 RMA - positive experience

I've been fairly hesitant to send in my Nexus 7 in for an RMA die to the abundance of negative reviews, but i decided to give it a shot.
I had some phantom touch issues, sticky home button, as well as some issues while transferring data from tablet to PC.
I sent the tablet to Asus on September 6th via Canada Post express and aids received it on the 10th. The status appeared as "product repair is in progress", however it stayed that way till the 16th. On the 16th I woke up to an email saying that the tablet had been repaired and is on the way via Purolator Express.
Upon further trading into the email I realized they messed up the address and forgot to mention the apartment number and buzzer code, hence I'd have to pick it up.
Having spent 1.5 hours waiting for the Purolator driver to come in, I finally received package. Inside I found a new replacement for my N7.
TL DR: RMA sent on evening of 6th September, replacement N7 picked up on 17th September. Other than minor shipping issues (ASUS provided my incomplete address) I'm satisfied with the experience. So far so good.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
My turn around time was good as well (about 10 days) ,however ,having to pay to have it shipped is lame (that and the new warranty/serial number sticker with wet ink!). That said, they didn't resolve the ghost screen issue at all. Mine worked ok for a few weeks then started up again (my guess is they installed some patch or different drivers). Works fine now though, thanks to SyphOnX's fix posted in the "Nexus 7 Screen not responding to touch sometimes?" thread in the N7 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting forum. I guess sometimes if you want it done right, you have to do it yourself.
How are Asus with unlocked bootloader devices? My N7 has completely died but it had PA installed on it when it died I have a feeling they won't want to repair it.
Sent from my LG-P768 using xda app-developers app
I'm newish to all this but I'm sure with PA on it the warranty will be null and void. See if you can revive it and revert it back to stock before rmaing it (although you may not need to at that point).
Opening the case is a cinch, I used regular tweezers, lol, and everything under the hood is very well laid out. If it's a replacing something issue you shouldn't have a problem.

Recieved new Nexus 7 after RMA
I'd just like to give my experience with Asus RMA. I've had an unlocked bootloader and been rooted since day 1 back in January, but I've also had screen phantom touch issues and unresponsiveness. I delayed sending it back as it was not too bad but last month it got really bad, so I went for it. After I requested the RMA I used Nexus Root Toolkit to unroot and re-lock my device, then set it back to completely stock. (Look up Nexus Root Toolkit and get it its some great software). I wrote up a very thorough description of the issue as I was instructed and sent it off from Nebraska to Texas. 10 days or so later a new Nexus 7 showed up at my door, with no touchscreen issues or anything. I recommend anyone who has issues with their nexus 7 to send them in, especially if you're nearing that end of warranty period. It's awesome top have an unscratched and perfect Nexus 7 just a few months before my warranty ends, do lock up that bootloader and send 'em in!
And to avoid confusion, I received a new Nexus 7 (2012), NOT "The New" Nexus 7 (2013) haha but that would have been awesome!
I'm currently waiting on my n7 to come back from its 3rd repair for failing to boot. I've never rooted or unlocked my tablet. I bought it march of 2013. 3 repairs for essentially the same problem. I honestly feel that my wifes samsung galaxy tab 2 is a better built device. Im posting this with her tablet. She treats her tablet like crap whereas I've treated my n7 with the utmost care. I paid for the shipping the first time but was given prepaid fedex shipping these last 2 times. This could well be my last nexus tablet.
Sent from my SCH-i705 using XDA Premium HD app
Yeah I've had good experiences too. I have always done an advance swap - receive the new tablet first, transfer all my files and a nandroid backup, restore to new device, wipe the old one, reinstall stock ROM and relock bootloader, send it in.
I have never had to pay for shipping. The same day they order the advance swap, I get a prepaid shipping label by e-mail. This is in Vancouver BC.
I've done two swaps, both because the speaker was blowing out.
My order for the original tab was right on launch day which means my original warranty expires in three weeks. My credit card entitles me to a second year but I probably won't be able to do an advance swap anymore.

Asus RMA experience an adventure

Hello guys,i sended my tablet 2 times for the grounded touchscreen issue many of you know ,first time my tablet returned after 2 days at the repair center and the center didn't done anything to it,just a hard reset.
So I Send the tablet back for a second time ,this time the tablet was there over 20days,this time they replace a "usb board" so i thought problem fixed, today i got my tablet and it came with the same problem.... but this time more horrible with with missing touches all over the upper middle part of the Screen when it's not grounded and that's not enough,i was shocked when i saw the service damaged the frame of my tablet!! ,seems like someone did try to open it with a screwdriver and the frame has a damaged/broke part on the top right ,i called the service center and told them that the problem hasn't fixed still! and specially for the damaged they service did on the frame! and i did send a picture of it ,they told me they will make a new RMA and i will send it tomorrow AGAIN.
My adventure continues,i used to be a very big supporter of Asus... has anyone experience anything similar? please let me know ,or any suggestion guys
They have had mine for 4 weeks.........
I just got my tablet back day before yesterday. It took exactly 2 weeks from the time I sent it. I was having an issue with the USB port. It wouldn't charge or connect to my pc while the tablet was turned on. It would charge when it was powered off and the computer could see it while in fastboot mode. So I was able to return it to stock and relock the bootloader.
I don't know the details of what was repaired. Is that documented somewhere? I did setup up an account with ASUS. I actually started the whole RMA process online. Never actually spoke to a person. For the most part it was pretty painless other than not having a tablet for 2 weeks.
Here are videos i took after this second repair to see the problem is still here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60oysCFNopk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZVRJD4omEU
and this is what they do to my tablets frame, which i had in amazing condition since day one with case and screen protector View attachment 2691497
I RMAd mine because the micro USB port was intermittently working. It took them 4 weeks to decide not to fix it, and send me what they claim is a new one..........

My heart goes out to anyone struggling with this tablet. I waited weeks and tried updates but it never helped. Customer service was of no assistance. I've read nothing but horror stories on sending in these units. Luckily I was able to correct my issue with Ts11 fix. I am now seeing people have problems with it messing up again.
Highly considering selling my unit online while it's working and washing my hands of the situation.
Just remember no matter what the company, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Be patient, kind, not rude, and persistent. You may have to make ten phone calls but eventually they will get tired of it and help.
I am glad to read that someone in this thread actually got Asus to send them a replacement. I would like to know what condition it's in and if you've had any problems with it yet???

Wow, at least you got an RMA!!!
I know this is off topic but does relate to what you say...
I have tried RMA for a 3 mother boards over the years. The last motherboard, about 6 months ago... They never compelted the RAM process, they never sent an email confirmation, nothing. I emailed multiple times and they said they have no RMA. Then out of the blue the email with RMA number. This was after many attempts on the website. So I send said motherboard back to asus thinking it was an issue with the power capacitors (I am very knowledgeable when it comes to mother boards). Keeping in mind, it was still under warranty, they email me back saying that there are scratches around the CPU mounting holes that are causing the issue and its $180 to fix.
Then they dremmeled down even further to "show" me, totally ruining the board.
I have other stories too... That match yours as I only use Asus motherboards on my PC Builds... But that is matching your story. They made product worse and then told me its not under warranty.
Asus is a great manufacturer but the customer service is horrid.
My Nexus 7 is @ Asus atm.
They received it today and sent me an email.
It'll take up to 7 - 10 business days before I know something...
I got 2 big red dots/smudges in/on my screen (on dark backgrounds)...

I also am experiencing the same problem. It irritates a lot while watching movies.

I just got mine back from Asus repair.
They replaced the LCD panel in my Nexus.
The 2 red smudges are gone but... I got 1 dead pixel back.
Phoned Asus support but apparently 1 dead pixel is within the legal margins here in NL and they cannot help me with this problem.
So long story short: 2 red smudges within a month of purchase, Asus replaced LCD, smudges gone, dead pixel instead.
I have never been to a service center until I start using tablets made by ASUS.
The very first time I went to their service center is because I got a Transformer Prime (TF201) that bricked itself when updating the official firmware! They took about a week to repair and the motherboard is replaced. I didn't have time to give a thorough check as they are about to close the center (I went after work). When I got home, I check the condition again and found out that the frame is loosen and scratched. What's worse, this new motherboard made me unable to unlock the tablet when I have decided to go cyanogenmod, I had to send it to RMA (RMA for what is obviously a software issue) again in order to get it unlocked.
I swore I'll never buy any ASUS product again.
Despite the hatred towards ASUS, Google Nexus once again draw me back to ASUS. As much as I believe in Nexus brand, ASUS once again made me disappointed (obviously I've the same touchscreen issue). However, I'm hesitated as to whether I should send it to RMA or not. I don't want to have a tablet in physically good condition that come back with a loosen and scratched frame.
This issue don't just made me hate ASUS more, it also made me starts doubting my previous thinking that "Nexus is a good brand" to buy.
